nice idea - i'd let the moon go the oposite way, from full to sicle.

hatched stage, either holding onto or lying infront of the moon.
2nd stage, is good as is, tail holding half moon.
3rd stage, sits on the sicle of moon. to get a picture, think of the Dreamworks logo, the kid sitting on the moon fishing.
