@james-bond I completely agree. And for ranters who disagree, please do not feel compelled to say this is a rant, for this is a valid discussion and suggestion thread.
sunshinecat • 23 June 2012 at 5:31 AM
@james-bond Agreed. As for the "You don't have to read it. People can post what they want" argument...Well, you don't have to read spam either. You don't have to read it when people insult others, yet neither of those are allowed. If it's there and unpleasant it shouldn't be allowed. Most rants are attention seeking and rude. It's just an unpleasant presence on the forums. Half the threads in Chit-Chat should not be full of raging complainers. Letting them continue encourages the attention-seeking.
pebblestar-nightclan • 23 June 2012 at 5:34 AM
@james-bondWell, I guess I only partially agree, which makes me a partial hypocrite, considering I've posted one or two rants before. Some people like to get their feelings out with rants... If they bottle it up, it could turn into a problem for them, or they could be mean to other users without meaning to, all because of bottling up their feelings. In other words, some rants are posted just because, and, which I agree, shouldn't even be. I've shared my two cents. :]
james-bond • 23 June 2012 at 5:36 AM
@pebblestar-nightclan just read this, it's pretty much the same thing:@sunshinecat What do you mean by "You don't have to read spam? You have to read something if it's there. eg. Don't read this sentance. A rant IS rude and attention seeking. It's all unnecessary. I understand that people shouldn't just bottle things up, but there are other means, means without getting others involved. Tell your friends, scribble it o paper and screw it up. Don't spread the negativity to EVERYONE man! Don't spread the negativity like mud on toast, spread the HAPPINESS like honey on toast! 😃
sunshinecat • 23 June 2012 at 5:37 AM
@pebblestar-nightclan I think rants are okay if they're a genuine topic of discussion, and if the person is reasonable about it. But that pretty much takes away the main elements of a rant. And, if it's the bottling up issue, then why not just type it out and not post it, if you don't actually need help? (Lots of people rant and act like they're asking for advice, but then refuse any given)@james-bond I mean, you don't have to read spam, but you still aren't allowed to spam, so rants aren't much different.
stellalunagirl • 23 June 2012 at 5:39 AM
I think if people want to rant but not to people they know if real life, they should start a diary or something. Rants do nothing but gain the ranter some sympathy and attention. They do not contribute anything positive and often start arguments and drama. It simply is not needed on Egg Cave. And I agree with @sunshinecat
james-bond • 23 June 2012 at 5:39 AM
@sunshinecat 'Lots of people rant and act like they're asking for advice, but then refuse any given'. I TOTALLY agree! And yes, there are SO many other ways to not bottle it up.
pebblestar-nightclan • 23 June 2012 at 5:40 AM
@sunshinecatSometimes, banging on the keyboard really helps. :] xD I have the best experience with typing fluent words out on the computer when I'm angry. It actually feels quite nice. 😃@james-bondLol, too true, I wish that were true for EVERYTHING, but sadly, that's just life. ☹️ Oh, well, might as well have fun where you can! 😃
stellalunagirl • 23 June 2012 at 5:41 AM
@james-bond Completely agree. Most people start rants and arguments because they want to argue.
james-bond • 23 June 2012 at 5:43 AM
@pebblestar-nightclan When you say "Oh, well, might as well have fun where you can!" are you saying 'post rants because it's fun'?
stellalunagirl • 23 June 2012 at 5:43 AM
@sunshinecat@james-bondI bet there will be people who rant who will come on here and defend their ranting, and say we are starting a rant of our own. They'll probably rant about their right to rant and turn this into a rant/arguement thread. There's bound to be one person who starts that.

Quite frankly, I disagree.I'm such a party pooper. If the forums were to not allow rants, how would it be for us to express our emotions and/or opinions? Just a few days ago the Chocob got a newly designed look, and yet mostly everyone complained, or rather RANTED, saying how much they disliked it.Although most forum rant topics may be based off real life situations it gives the ability to let out their anger, it doesn't give off all that much negativity because what it's also doing is showing others that they can agree on the same thing and know that they are not alone, and there are those who disagree but they giving them their point of view.As most people say, ranting is the best cure.I know, because I've posted rant topics myself. I'd hate to be restricted from ranting and having my feelings bottled up.I agree that some rants can cause an argument but it's only if it is targeted towards another user, which I don't find most often in rant topics. This topic itself is a rant.
stellalunagirl • 23 June 2012 at 5:45 AM
@artThis is not a rant in fact, it is a suggestion and a group of people stating their points of views and opinions in a mature manner.
sunshinecat • 23 June 2012 at 5:46 AM
@art I knew someone would bring up the "this topic is a rant" excuse. This topic is not a rant because we're not just mindlessly spilling emotions, we're debating sensibly and giving reasons.
pebblestar-nightclan • 23 June 2012 at 5:46 AM
@james-bondNope. Just really talking about having fun with your life and thinking of the positives. ^^"
stellalunagirl • 23 June 2012 at 5:48 AM
@sunshinecatAgreed.
mastergemma • 23 June 2012 at 5:50 AM
I think that if people have to rant on about something, then there should just be ONE threadKind of like the rp forum ect though you cannot make a new topic@james-bond
stellalunagirl • 23 June 2012 at 5:52 AM
@artAlso, all rants have the potential to start arguments, some more than others. When people try to offer plain, honest, non sugar-coated advice, they get bashed and ganged up upon and when people try to defend themselves it becomes a large argument and adds to drama.
james-bond • 23 June 2012 at 5:53 AM
@stellalunagirl Haha yeah. That made me laugh so much. Just reading it made me laugh, then I saw that the person below your comment.@art Nice username by the way.People saying that they don't like the new Chocob design, that's an OK type of rant. The post that on the Chocob forum that you see on the blog, and it's about an egg cave topic. It could actually be 'useful'. Therefore, it's not really a rant, just showing an opinion on a change. It's different to the type of rant we're talking about. The real life stuff, there are very young kids here remember. Perhaps do that kind of ranting somewhere else like group guidance counciling? As I have said before there are SO MANY other ways to let out that anger. It isn't necessary to get all of egg cave involved. It makes other people sad seeing that kind of stuff, and they shouldn't have to see it.
stellalunagirl • 23 June 2012 at 5:56 AM
@james-bondIt's not only the pessimism of it all, but this is not really needed, it does not give anyone of eggcave any benefits, and even for the ranter, the attention is shortlived. The more rants, the more dramaI understand that people need to release their problems but they can do so to a friend, a family member, a teacher. They can start a diary, write a song or draw about it.
james-bond • 23 June 2012 at 5:58 AM
@pebblestar-nightclan YEAH! 😉 Thinking of the positives! You got it!@mastergemma I don't think it would work, and it wouldn't be very good for egg cave's public image. What will people thinking of joining egg cave or their parents think when they see there's a special posting section purely on depressing angry rants? Also, ranters seek the attention of the public. They would lose that special place of geting attention from everyone if they could only have one section.
stellalunagirl • 23 June 2012 at 6:01 AM
@james-bondI bet there will also be people who say, "Don't judge" OR"You don't know what so and so is going through, you cannot say anything," Well, a lot of stuff people say online does not really need to be said, and why would they say/post/show these things unless they WANT attention from others? But ranting being disallowed is highly unlikely, because people will pull the whole "freedom of speech" card.
james-bond • 23 June 2012 at 6:08 AM
@stellalunagirl We think alike. 😉 This is actually pretty funny how we can tell the future. Post 12 and last like of 13. 2nd paragraph. EXACTLY. If egg cave was school, this would be such a good topic to do a speech on. About the freedom of speech, if someone did say that, it isn't really not having freedom of speech. You can 'freely speech' elsewhere. And people only have freedom of speech to a certain point anyway. You can't swear, you can't say offencive things to someone on TV, and it's immoral to write rant forums that affect people in a negative, unnecessary, spam like way on adoptables networking sites.
asi • 23 June 2012 at 6:12 AM
@Art I find your rants really interesting o.o Just like any opinion 😊I think what we need to do is make the distinction between Opinion and Flaming. Both are kinds of rants. Obviously the first is stating what you honestly think, POLITELY, taking in the good and the bad, and asking others their own thoughts, discussing, not arguing.FLAMING is when you are all negative and hate everything 😋Including;P1: OMG I'M SO UGLY I HATE MY LIFE, HERE'S A PIC TO PROVE HOW BAD I LOOK.P2: Dude. You are wayy prettier than me. You are NOT ugly ._.P1: YOU'RE A REALLY MEAN, STOP LYING D:<
james-bond • 23 June 2012 at 6:16 AM
@asi Opinion is more linked to 'suggestions and ideas'. If your 'rant' has no way of fitting in there or is not going to be useful in any way, I don't think it should be allowed to be posted. And yes, like you said, they shouldn't be negative, and well, if it's all about yourself, I think deal with those life problems by other means.
stellalunagirl • 23 June 2012 at 6:16 AM
@asiDefinitions of rants1: to talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory manner2: to scold vehementlyPosting/sharing/stating opinions or discussing them is not ranting.
asi • 23 June 2012 at 6:25 AM
@Stellalunagirl I know what it means >.>@James-bondI didn't mean suggestion as in, I think the Chocobs would be cooler if we added wings! DXWhat I meant was something like;P1: I had a really bad day today, I was at this CD store and they tried to sell me this CD for twice the advertised price, and when I pointed this out they were just like, well, take it or leave it, and when I tried to buy a different CD they were like, ugh, want fries with that? So I just left and I really don't like that store, does anyone else shop at ---?
snowrosehell • 23 June 2012 at 9:36 AM
I agree. Rants aren't supposed to dominate the EC forums. It's okayy to rant if it's something worth it and not harsh or something. I guess I am wrong with that? Example if you had difficulties sleeping alone in a very dark room or something. I guess that's nothing?Oh well... GTG, I have to rest and I can't wait for the LoK season finale! *-*
balletninja • 23 June 2012 at 9:44 AM
Freedom of speech. Don't like them? Don't read them. But sometimes I think eggcave needs to grow up a tiny bit, I mean this is such a sheltered site and while I like it like that for the most part, it also makes it harder to fit in on the tougher sites. And this is a rant, it sparks argument and expresses a strong opinion on a subject. Not quite a debate either.
syndrome • 23 June 2012 at 9:50 AM
I agree with what @balletninja said.
