Every cat seemed to be out of camp, and Moonbeam couldn't go on patrol by himself. "Or could I?" he thought. "It couldn't hurt to just check on the border, no further." Moonbeam padded out of the den and into the forest, not secretly yet in case he met one of the other cats on patrol.

I hear a cat approaching and quickly scent Moonbeam the deputy. I let out a small squek and dive into bushes.

Moonbeam hears the squeak and scents that Icepaw is nearby, he laughs quietly to himself. "What was that? I guess it was nothing. If only it were another cat, they could go on a very top secret mission with a lot of danger and everything. Oh well, I guess it was nothing," He said, trying to entice the young apprentice with an exciting venture.

I listen to Moonbeam but shake my head. Not right now. Lunarheart was going to be followed today. I turn and sneak out of the bushes my white ppelt blendin in with the snow covered ground.

Brackenflower padded into camp with her fresh kill, the squirrel hanging in her jaws as she walked over to the fresh-kill pile.

Moonbeam waited a moment, "Guess she didn't want to go," he thought to himself. It was probably for the best, it could get pretty dangerous. He continued to get closer towards the border, the Tigerclan scent was strong. Either the patrol was still there or they had just passed. Moonbeam climbed up one of the trees and stuck close to the trunk, he stuck his head out for just a second to see if there was anything. He could see a patrol fairly close to the border, but they were leaving. "Hmmm, three of them. And the one in the middle is Flaretail. He seems to have been accepted pretty fast, then again he did fight against us." Moonbeam waited for a bit longer but could catch wind of nothing, and as such began to head home. He only got a few fox-lengths when something barreled into him and a clawed paw stuck his throat to the ground, the scent was overwhelming.
It belonged to Flaretail, but it was drenched in Tigerclan scent. It was unnatural, not quite one but the other. A terrible amalgamation of the two. Flaretail came in close to Moonbeam's ear, "Don't think I haven't forgotten my own deputy's scent. And to think that Featherstar chose you for deputy, well who has the power now?" Flaretail asked darkly. "Don't worry, you won't die here. In fact you're going to deliver a little message for me. Tell Featherstar that this is far from over, and by the end of it the entire forest will be beneath my paws. Now go, run back to your little leader." Flaretail bit down hard on Moonbeam's ear, and blood ran down Moonbeam's face. Flaretail then took off across the border.
"He can try," Moonbeam thought. "Now, I'd better go tell Featherstar, but she won't like this." His ear didn't bother him, the blood was the most annoying problem. However, it probably wouldn't heal closed, "Maybe it'll remind me to be more careful next time," He thought to himself jokingly as he headed back to camp.

I hear a low growl and turn and sprint up to the border in itme to see Flaretail running off. I look over nad see Moonbeam staggering. Traitor or Deputy. I thought then leapt over the border ignoring a startled yowl from Moondeam.

"Icepaw, No!" Moonbeam yowled, "Tsk, I can't let an apprentice just run into enemy territory, especially not Tigerclan's terriroty." He thought. Moonbeam shook off the pain and took off after Icepaw, whatever happened he could not lose her. Moonbeam was slightly behind Icepaw, just enough where things could go bad, but hopefully close enough where he could stop it.

I dive into a snow drift masking my scent and virtually dissapearing from Moonbeam's sight. I crawl down to a small dead tree and see Flaretail.

Moonbeam stuck close to a patch of trees, Icepaw had just vanished from his sight. "How could you let this happen Moonbeam," He thought to himself. Her light colored fur didn't help him either, and the snowfall was weakening her scent. "If I can't get her to comeback soon things will get bad," He thought. He hadn't planned on crossing the border, now they were the ones tresspassing. Not only that but the longer he stayed the stronger the scent he would leave, and he had to be careful of the blood that was dripping from his ear.
He decided to take a chance, "Icepaw!," he hissed, "come back this istant! What would Featherstar think?" He asked, hoping to pry her out of hiding.

I turn at the sound of my name being called but shake it away. Flaretail had to be dealt with first. I creep into a deeper drift of snow my pelt now gone complely and lunge at him. With an unearthly feat of strength I pull him down and drag him int hte snow drift. I see Moonbeam not to far off nad hurry along Flaretail's body slowing me down. As I reach the deputy thogh Flaretail springs up and pins Moonbeam down.

Moonbeam claws at is belly but Flaretail is not to be shaken. "Icepaw go! I'll make it back later on, go warn Featherstar." Moonbeam said. He began fighting against Flaretail, clawing at his belly and biting at his throat.

"Moonbeam." I yowl out and lep towards Flaretail. I see him gripping the deputy by the sruff and leap nad push him over.

Moonbeam rolls back onto his paws and puts his claws on Flaretail's neck, pinning him. I slash him from shoulder to hip and push Icepaw back, allowing Flaretail to rise. "Just run now traitor! I don't want to have to kill you in front of this apprentice!" Moonbeam yowled.

"That's just it." Flaretail hissed to Moonbeam. "You have a soft spot for your little leader's kit. I would have more sense than you." At that moment I glance a little farther up to where a river runs. I take in a breath and leap barreling Flaretail over and crashing onto the ice. It splinters underneath the weight of impact sending both of us plunging into the water.

"Icepaw!" Moonbeam yowled, if he didn't act fast Icepaw would be lost. Yet, if he weren't careful he too would be killed. Moonbeam ran to the egde of the hole, careful of the ice beneath his paws. Moonbeam scans the water's surface for Icepaw, who has yet to surface. "Icepaw, where are you?" He yelled.

I hear a voice. Distant and calling my name. I want to yell out by that would involve taking in air and that would mean letting Flaretail to the surface to get me and Moonbeam. I could'nt let that happen. I dig my claws deeper into his back and force my way deeper into the water. Wither moments he loosenes his grip on my back and goes limp. I let him go nad he sinks down deeper into the water. I start to swim upward and soon my head breaks into the hole in the ice. I splutter and gasp for air as I drag my self onto Stormclan territory.

Moonbeam had turned from the pile shortly before. "No cat could have stayed under that long," he thought. He heard a faint sound behind him, he turned to see Icepaw dragging herself onto their territory. "Icepaw! I thought you were done for," he said. "We need to get you to camp quick!" Without any hesitation he took her by the scruff and got her onto his back. Then he went as fast as he could back to the camp while still keeping the two of them safe.

I walk out of my den to see Moonbeam dragging Icepaw into camp. I leap on the ground and sprint towards Starpelt's den. "Starpelt Moonbeam and Iceapw are back with injuries and Icepaw is soaked with water." I mew to her as she bursts out of the den and gets herbs ready.

Moonbeam stumbles the rest of the way to the medicine cats den. He gently places Icepaw down on one of the mats, "Whatever happens, she comes first. I'll be fine." Moonbeam lays down on a separate mat. Panting from exhaustion. "Featherstar, come here. It may be important."

Moonbeam wakes up a few hours later, his wound barely bleeding anymore. "Starpelt, I'm just going to walk to Featherstar's den really quick. I'll be back after that if you really need me." He said as he padded out of her den. He pawed over to the leader's den and poked his head in, "Featherstar, are you here?" he asked.

"Yes Moonbeam?" I mew my voice dull and flat.

Starpelt~
I nudge Icepaw and she rolls over with a low moan. "Come on Icepaw get up." I mew shoving my nose under her arm to have her sit up. "Get up." I hiss as she flops down again. I nose her nad feel her breathing has stopped. I gasp "Not again." Remembering the incident with Winterpelt. I had'nt saved him then either. "I'm sorry Icepaw. You died a warriors death." I mew getting out of my den and padding over to Featherstar's. I wait for her to finish speaking with Moonbeam.

"Flaretail is out of the picture. Icepaw kept him under the water long enough to drown him, it's amazing she made it back. And it's why shes in that condition. Tigerclan will know that we were there. After Icepaw ran over the border and attacked Flaretail we were there for a good ten or so minutes. Our scent will be strong after the battle, and there is the scent of blood as well. They have probably already realized that Flaretail is gone, and they are sure to connect it with us. With all the hostility between our clans already it is sure to only get worse. That is all there is to report on the matter really." He curled his tail around his paws and scented Starpelt, "And it seems now you have another visitor, so I'll let her talk with you now." Moonbeam left and padded back to the Medicine cat's den, he looked over at Icepaw to see how she was. Except, she wasn't. Dread crawled down Moonbeam's spine, "That must be what Starpelt was talking to Featherstar about now," he thought to himself.

"Thank you Moonbeam. I will tell the clan." I mew to him. "Come in Starpelt." I mew to her as the fern surrounding my den swished.

Starpelt~
"Well as you know Icepaw drowned Flaretail." I mew akwardly. "Well after that I gave her thyme and juniper berries." I mew. "But she was under water for a while and she could'nt make it." I say as Featherstar jumped up and ran out of the den.

Moonbeam was astonished at the young apprentices death. "I could have done something," he thought to himself. He walked out of the den in time to see Featherstar rush in with Starpelt trailing behind. Moonbeam nodded his understanding to the Medicine Cat and stood outside the den to calm down any cats who could get too inquisitive.

Moonbeam stood outside the den and overheard Featherstar's lament. He knew it must be tough for her, she had lost more than any of the other cats. But no mater what happened he would stay behind her.
