Inspiration:
This creature suggestion is inspired by the Diamond Dove, Geopelia Cuneata. And also by my Diamond Dove, Harriet, who passed away in December from a seizure. She was such a sweetheart, even let my 3 year old brother stroke her gently. (With plenty of supervision, don't worry.) She was super chill, and loved to just hang outide of her cage, whether it was on a chair, a table, someone's shoulder, or even the old plastic dollhouse. Here is the story of how she came to live with my family...

Harriet's Story:
I fell in love with Diamond Doves after the first time I saw them in Petsmart. I thought they were so dainty, and elegant, and absolutely entrancing. I really wanted to own one, and see what it was like to parent a pet dove. Needless to say, I came across an ad on Craigslist, for a female Diamond Dove that was up for adoption. I know adopting off of CL can be risky, but, eventually, my parents made up their minds and said it could be allowed. So we decided to take the chance. There was a small adoption fee of $20 to ensure she was going to a loving home. I paid that myself, and my dad took me to meet the guy who had her. Not too long after that Harriet was coming home with us. 😊 She was frightened at first, as any bird would have been, but once we gave her some time to settle down in her new home and warm up to us, she became the sweetest and tamest little dove in the whole world. Everyone loved her, all 4 of my siblings. She was adored by everyone, especially my mother. The sounds she made were so soothing, and peaceful. I began altering her diet slowly, trying to get her on a healthier path. She loved carrot. Plans were soon made to get her a dove companion, as Diamond Doves do much better in pairs, and we didn't want her to get lonely or depressed without an avian friend. But then...before it could be arranged, one day, I woke up to little Harriet unable to move properly. She was shaking violently every few minutes, uncontrollably. She passed a couple hours later, from the seizure. I have no idea what caused it, but she is missed terribly to this day. Fly free, Harriet my dear.

Offical creature descriptions - crit def welcome, as I'm not the best with grammar.

Egg:
Cuneata eggs are always nestled in a small pile of sand, despite not being shorebirds. They are often found down below, among garden beds in which flowers grow in. The surface of the egg is very glassy, dappled with white spots. It shouldn't be asurprise that it's no challenge to catch sight of one's reflection when staring at the eggshell. Along with their fragile appearance, a strand of perfectly round pearls is strung around the egg, and is completely unremovable. The reasearchers of the SARC are still trying to figure out just what causes these pearls to appear. The most popular theory is that they are somewhat like the pearl of an Oyster, forming over time on the shell. Although this has never been recorded.

Creature:
The Cuneata is a curious bird, with quite a few peculiar habits. Immediately after hatching, that elegant necklace of pearls becomes detached from their egg, and they quickly begin wearing it looped around their delicate body. After it is on, it will never come off until the Cuneata dies. And if removed by force, they will grow malnourished and sickly, perishing soon after.

Even though their sight is nonexistent at the time, newly hatched Cuneatas also take up the action of beginning to build their "crown". The process begins with the sand pile their egg was placed in before hatching. It is currrently unexplainable, but somehow the most dainty flowers sprout from this very sand. Even the SARC cannot understand how such abundant blossoms grow from the loose, granular substance. Yet, the flowers do well, and are soon woven by the Cuneata into a lovely chain, which adorns their head. Eventually these coronets will wilt and fade, as all plants do. In this case, the Cuneata will just create another, usually more vibrant then the last. It is for this reason Cuneatas should never be separated from their own specific sandpile, because it will be needed for future use.

When a Cuneata reaches adulthood, the gray plumage of their wings adapt the same white dappling as their egg had carried upon its shell. Rumors have been spread that the pearls which Cuneatas wear their whole lives rub onto their feathers, thus leaving these pretty embellishments, lovely white markings that decorate their wings for the rest of their days.

Any critique/opinions are welcome. I unfortunately have perfectionism, so some of this may be tweaked before the 25th. Anyway, thanks for looking.

Beautiful description, concept, and origin! 😃 This incredibly well-thought out creature certainly honors the memory of your beloved Harriet. I hope her likeness will forever be immortalized in the Archives of Eggcave...
