Do you participate in Find the Gobblers?

I'm just wondering how many on here participate in Find the Gobblers. If so, why? If not, why not?

I don't actively look for gobblers because for me it slows down play/feeding. Also, after the Halloween Fair, I need a break.

@mindassala I like to participate because I want to collect the seasonal creature that comes out in November for the event, plus I find it fun to take part in the eggcave games throughout the year. it's a lot more difficult than the Halloween Fair which gives out seeds during feeding but I find it fun to try and find the little gobblers ^^

I participate because i like searching for the Gobblers (though it's not as tricky as it used to be.) ...and because i usually want the exclusive creature.

But i agree, it's exhausting having two big events back to back.

Helping out this year a bit that I let go of some of the OCD stuff that was keeping me from enjoying them before. (No longer note-taking for every little thing. And i *mostly* gave up feeding months ago as it really stressed me out.) ...so now I can focus on the gobblers and it's a lot easier. I've just been looking in my spare time while doing other things. It's fun catching them do that little wiggle.

When they were more random in time that it would take for them to show up, I ran a game for how many times people found them on the Gobbler archive page : ) (Probably not doing it this year.)

Honestly, I just want the prize. Not just the CC, I'd like to have the creature too - I don't think there's been a single prize creature for this that I've disliked so far. I'm already decently used to keeping tabs open and refreshing them now and then whilst doing stuff thanks to other sites' events, so doing this for Find the Gobblers isn't difficult. I wouldn't say I'm competitive at all, in fact the opposite (which is probably obvious from my consistently low leaderboard place if I'm even on it), it's just something I participate in for fun.

The only part I'd say I'm not a fan of is the last week or so where the leaderboard is barely moving at all and you just want it over and done with. Just that feeling of "I want that creature in my hands already, time should hurry up"... haha.

I try to participate for the prize but... It's not fun for me. During events like chocotravaganza and halloween fair, I can just relax and feed and get prizes *for feeding*. During november, it's refresh at the oasis or miss a ton while trying to feed, so I find myself feeding less and it's very annoying because feeding creatures is what I like to do on here... contemplating just not doing it anymore, it's probably worth it but I can't really enjoy it. I hate sounding so negative about it, it's just... so, so so not fun imo. Because it's just... refreshing every x minutes and looking for a very small image to click. ;w;

Like others, I hunt for the prize. Especially the creature, although the CC doesn't hurt. Many moons ago, the Gobbler Hunt was the way I got my Leaf.

Personally I like the way the hunt works as it is different. While it took a little getting used to, I even prefer the newer way of hunting (the time based way over the constantly random way), as I find it disturbs my feeding less. Before when I bulk opened a bunch of creatures to speed feed, I could only count one gobbler and had to scan all of every page. Now once I find one, I know I have at least a minute before another will pop up. So it's feed for a minute or so, then hit the link for the archives. If a gobbler shows up, great, timers reset. If not feed another 10 or so, then recheck.

Topic moved from Chit-Chat to General.

I enjoy this event, especially with the change that was made. I can comfortably hunt for Gobblers and still have time to open up tabs for feeding purposes without having to check them all for Gobblers. I'm of an opinion that an event should not impede on the daily functions of the website and the previous Gobbler event did that in my eyes. I usually do like the prizes too and I'm still pleased that the leaderboards were extended to the top 100 instead of just the top 50.

I play it, but wish I didn't have to. The prize is Too Good to miss, but a few days in and I wind up feeling shackled to EggCave. I can't casually (rapidly) feed a whole cove because it feels like almost every page needs me to stop and scan intently.

I'm not a fan of the competitive nature of the leaderboard. I'd rather we all work together towards finding ('hunting') x amount of turkeys for goals. Individual goals for us (the voucher and the creature), but sitewide rewards too like unlocking new items for the stores or (in my most ambitious dreams) new art for the NPC's in stores to match the seasons or something. Something that everyone can enjoy regardless of participation, and to give us all a feeling of being in something together; sometimes these events make a girl feel like she's clicking in an empty room. I wanna feel (alive) like I'm clicking with my besties for something fun.

I just think it would be a much more community centric vibe if we worked together towards something instead of towards solely individual gain.

Anywhosies, just a quick tangential ramble for y'all. Good luck turkeying/not turkeying.

@kataclysm oh that’s a fun idea, I like that. Kind of like the SARC fund. I wonder if an event like that could happen during the summer since summer seems to be dry on eggcave!?!

I try to play, depends on how busy I am though. Some years, I fall too behind one week and I'm done for. One year I did barely manage to get by though.

Ooh @ kataclysm, I like that idea! I feel like I'd have a lot of fun with a more laid-back event like that.

@kataclysm expanding onto your idea... what if there was a 2nd exclusive creature that would be available (to all players who found at least 1 Gobbler) if a community goal of X number of turkey's was reached? (sort of like with SARC funding?)

(But keeping the leaderboard as it is.
I love community cooperation games, and lament the loss of one I played that the only way to get ahead was by gifting other players. There wasn't anything competitive about it. ...but I don't see the leaderboard going away anytime soon here. Simply because it keeps the payout down.
Though i'd be fine with half the prize CC if it mean more players could earn something.)

@snowywinter YES SARC FUNDING STYLE! THATS what I suggested too, but ~summer~ !

Gobblers would be ok, but I think we need some more events spread out with not as much savagery in October straight to November lol!!!

@dragrawr ooops, sorry, I haven't read many posts all year. Been hiding under a rock. But it's a popular idea then if multiple people keep thinking of it randomly : )

*chuckles* "savagery" that's one way to put it. I certainly feel like I've been put through the spin-cycle a few times by the time the two months are over if I put in much effort. (This year's goal is to walk away in December not be ready to sleep for most the month. lol)

While I don't mind the leaderboard, I'd also love a way for more players to get a prize (even if it's a lower CC amount or some different new prize). This is the first year I feel like I may struggle to stay on the board, and I'm okay with that but I know it's extremely frustrating when you are trying to go all-in and just don't have the ability to do enough to stay on the board.

I would *love* some sort of summer event more geared toward community cooperation. I admit I don't know the details but I feel like the original Ark Victory event where the Pareteorsite queen was defeated was sort of along those lines? *too tired to look up more info*

Yes, I participate. I caught 6 gobblers while reading comments and commenting myself. xD

I honestly prefer this over feeding events. Feeding en masse for weeks on end burns me out when it's not what I'm in the mood for. So if I can pop in every once in a while, click something, and then turn my attention to other things, that's less stressful for me.

I am competitive, yes. But I know my limits. Somewhere in the middle of the leaderboard is fine by me. I don't stress myself out trying to be the best, but I'm not stressed out over thinking 30 people will find enough Gobblers to push me off the list while I sleep. Because time zones and all that jazz. ^^'

I do agree that a collaborative event could be really fun, rather than everything being competitive.

That being said, I am probably still building myself up towards CRW in January... XD

My extended rambling thoughts..... (Some may be repeated by me or others)

My short response would be that I like the current set up of the event. I am satisfied with how it works (excluding DLS glitch related resets, which I understand the whys behind) so feel a change isn't essential.

Would I object to a change up? Probably not, but I understand this event isn't compulsory and isn't for everyone. Even so, how I interact with the site changes for November. I'm fine with that. EggCave isn't the only site/game I play that I modify my actions and interactions to participate in an event or challenge. It's also not the only time I modify my play on EggCave.

While a part of me misses the old larger transparent gobblers, I will admit, the opaque smaller ones are a little easier on my aging eyes.

I'm not a fan of the idea of feed based hunting. Especially so close to the Halloween event where the best way to get seeds is feeding. Normally I stop intensely seed hunting in the last week just to give myself a slight break before having to knuckle down again for gobblers. Mass feeding can also be tiring and painful for my hands.

As I mentioned above, after an adjustment, I prefer the cooldown method of gobblers appearing over the random, could be any where on any page style. It doesn't hinder how I like to feed as much as I can open more tabs. Also I can have lots of mini hunting breaks. If I just collected a gobbler, I know I don't need to constantly scan for at least a minute, so speed feeding it is. I can also multi task easier. Get a snack, take a lap of the house, balance my fluids, snuggle with my dog. I don't feel as if I need to be tied to my computer and Eggcave as much.

I currently have the time and am motivated enough by the prize to fight for the leader board. However, that hasn't always been the case and I understand the time restraints of some. So I wouldn't object to a different system for the creature.

Not sure about a solely community goal concept, but like the idea of an individual goal better. Or maybe both. Say, collect 600 gobblers you get *prize A*, but if the community gets the goal of 200k, everyone who contributed also gets *prize B*. Those numbers may seem highish, but the individual one averages out to 20 a day, and the group one is less than the site collected the last couple of years. One of the prizes could still be the new creature while the other could be a seasonal creature or travels, possibly rerelease a previous prize. Maybe a much smaller amount of CC, so the overall outlay is similar, but more people are awarded. If the concept of competition is to be saved, then maybe a smaller leader board. The Halloween Fair ones don't award anything, so these ones could be the same if more people are getting a smaller reward.

But as I put in my opening statement, I'm fine with how this event runs. Maybe the suggestions could be rolled over into something new.

Although my first reaction to a Summer event was "NOOO!!!, I'm too busy with Christmas ... Oh ...... hang on .... their talking June.......". Hemispheres exist and DLS surprises me all the time because while my country does it at different times (clocks changes Sept and Apr), my state doesn't participate at all.

As a side note - This has taken me so long to compose into something at least semi coherent, that I have found 35 gobblers flicking through the Achieves every couple of minutes.

I mainly want the critter.

I can't do the monthly (edit, daily) tasks so the CC is a nice bonus.

@minnie298a Thank you for taking the time to make such a detailed well thought-out post! I definitely prefer the 'timed' Gobblers rather than totally random, it still keeps enough of a random element ('every 1-3 minutes' instead of 'exactly 1 minute' or something) while also allowing for more gameplay and other things in between. If I'm not distracted I can easily feed a small cove in-between Gobblers without worrying about missing something on the pages I'm speeding through.

(Daylight Savings surprises me each time as well, being one of the few US states that don't participate in it, I didn't even realize this time until I noticed it was past 9pm my-time and the site wasn't at midnight yet.)

@heatherm19
I've been around for a looooong time. I took a little hiatus in 2021 due to computer issues, but have been fairly present for a fair chunk of the other 14 years I've had this account. I have memories of this event going through different incarnations. Including the prizes and how the gobblers appear. The current format is the one I do like the most, but I had no real complaints about the previous ones either.

The first time I can find my name on a leader board was 2015, and I was 50th. Which meant I was last on the leader board and won 500CC and 100K ec.

Looking through the Blog, the 2013 prize was -
"The top 50 finders will receive 100,000 EC plus any choice of a currently available creature that's in the Cave!"
"UPDATE - There was a glitch that allowed users to click the same Gobbler multiple times to artificially increase their count. This glitch has been fixed. Unfortunately, because the Gobbler counts were skewed, the event has been restarted. Get collecting!"
https://eggcave.com/blog/find-the-gobblers-has-begun?page=1

(Right now it is 7.05pm, Wednesday 06/11 ECT. It is 10.05am Thursday 07/11 my time. Midnight ECT switches between 2pm and 3pm. And while my state doesn't do DLS, they bring up trying every couple of years, the other states in our "Winter" time zone do, and seem to control several time things like pay tv schedules. So I often need to adjust for those changes as well as the ones in countries across the world. So basically, DLS in the scourge of the universe and should be abolished everywhere. Pick a time zone peoples and stick to your decision!!!. It confuses me and messes with coded timers and my EC routines)

no. it's exhausting for me, with only being at home for 5ish (awake) hours (lots of commitments) and I know it's physically impossible for me to win. I'll click it if I see it, but I don't search for them.

I participate, but only haphazardly.

I already know I'll never find enough gobblers to be a serious contender, but if I HAPPEN to spot one, I'll click it just because it's there. I like the idea of a SAR type event but mostly it's just a "Oh, this is cute." sort of activity for me.

I participated this year! Lemme tell you, that 3 minute timer I had was rough, but it payed off in the end. I was only able to participate because I have a rather unique schedule which allowed me to hunt, but I wouldn't recommend it for people who might not have the time. It helped me to do big bursts of hunting for a few hours every few days so I didn't get too burnt out.

This is my first year not participating. I've always wanted CC, it's hard to gain for me (espessialy lately). But I'm tired. Really. I don't have enough time to search through all pages and mainly I don't like the idea of endless competitive clicking.
I like the idea of @kataclysm.

UPD. I thought about it for a bit and came up with this scheme: you collect a certain number of Gobblers (say, 100) and get a pet; and since CCs have always been highly valued and handing out a large sum to everyone is too expensive, those who want to get CCs participate in a further race to find Gobblers. So, almost everyone gets a festive mood and a festive pet (except for those who don't like collecting Gobblers).
