Introducing Non-Binary Creatures, With Gender Chances

Introducing The Non-Binary Gender

All creatures can now be the Non-Binary gender on Egg Cave. This is represented by the circle symbol on their creature image.

As part of this update, gender icons on all creature images have been updated with the new gray circle icon representing the non-binary gender.

Species Now Have A Gender Profile

Obtaining a creature of a certain gender now has a weighted, random chance on Egg Cave. It is different for each species. You can view which gender profile a species has in the Archives and find an individual species.

Gender Profile Chances

  • Standard: 48% male, 48% female, 4% non-binary
  • Masculine: 85% male, 10% female, 5% non-binary
  • Feminine: 85% female, 10% male, 5% non-binary
  • Genderless: 94% non-binary, 3% male, 3% female

Gender profiles have been set based on what might make the most sense for that type of creature. The Genderless gender profile typically applies to object-like creatures that don't suggest the presence of gender. Gender profiles and their chances are now published in the Cave & Adopting area of the Player Guide.

SAR Center, Cash Shop, Event Prize Shops Updated

In places around Egg Cave where you have the ability to select a creature's gender in advance, you can now select Non-Binary as a gender. This applies to places like the Creature Labs, Cash Shop, and future site event Prize Shops (among many other places such as The VEND Machine). Non-binary is now another gender option. Random is still an option if you're feeling fiesty—selecting "Random" has a 33% for male vs female vs non-binary.

The Non-Binary Stone

Like the Mars Stone and Venus Stone, there is the brand-new Non-Binary Stone that can transform any creature to Non-Binary. Like the other stones it's 100 CC. Looking to have a specific type of collection? This is how.

Gender profile for a species not looking right?

This is the very beginning of our new gender profile system. If a species looks wildly off to you for its set gender profile, please submit a ticket with your feedback.

Hello, thank you for this addition. I would not use this feature but some will surely be interested

sky • 13 Sep 2022, 3:09 PM

I love this! Thank you Egg Cave ❤️

Ian • 13 Sep 2022, 3:17 PM

@sky glad you're liking it! ❤️

dragiigy • 13 Sep 2022, 3:19 PM

For me, not so important update. But thank you. I cant wait, CC events will start 🙂

crescentmoons • 13 Sep 2022, 3:23 PM

ooooh sweet, i love this, thank you!

myriadium • 13 Sep 2022, 3:28 PM

ooh! this is cool, i like it. love the representation this game offers 😃 excited for other things to come!

Ian • 13 Sep 2022, 3:30 PM

@dragiigy it's coming very soon for a beta!

Ian • 13 Sep 2022, 3:30 PM

@myriadium so glad you're liking the change! 😸

blub • 13 Sep 2022, 3:30 PM

Awesome, I love this!

brookie • 13 Sep 2022, 3:31 PM

I started to notice the non-colored gender icons. Great addition!

ida92 • 13 Sep 2022, 3:35 PM

I would like to have to option to turn coloured icons on or off. With just the non-binary being grey. Them all being colouress is confusing... Also, shouldn't the Lessama be non-binary?

sparklefox • 13 Sep 2022, 3:36 PM

So that's why the gender icons looked a lot different when I logged in today. Seems neat, but personally don't care too much (though I suppose it makes a whole lot more sense for object-based creatures).

prairie • 13 Sep 2022, 3:50 PM

I think this is a super cool update!! I will say I do personally miss the pink & blue male and female symbols. I found the colors nice & I loved matching the overall color scheme of the creature/travel with specific ones, so I'm not a huge fan of a bulky-looking grey symbol. ----

prairie • 13 Sep 2022, 3:50 PM

---- I'd find it kinda cool if the Non-binary symbol was a yellow, or light grey symbol, just to have another color to work with cosmetically.

snowywinter • 13 Sep 2022, 3:54 PM

Wow! A LOT of work went into this!

snowywinter • 13 Sep 2022, 3:59 PM

@ida92 I agree. I was constantly mixing up the symbols before joining this site. Constantly having them in my face (coloured) made remembering a little easier most of the time.

chapus • 13 Sep 2022, 4:01 PM

oh, this is neat! i noticed the icons did change. I will say, I'll miss the blue and red colors of the male/female symbols since the grey looks a lil drab, but this new options is inclusive and makes a LOT of sense for genderless/object creatures!

sartre • 13 Sep 2022, 4:06 PM

This is cool but, I would like if the gender icons would be pink and blue too, and Non-binary being gray.

Meteoroid • 13 Sep 2022, 4:15 PM

While I understand the consistency, it’ll take me a moment to become used to not seeing the pink and blue icons we had for 13 years… but we finally have genderless creatures! The Asteroid critters rejoice. ☄️

renfri • 13 Sep 2022, 4:35 PM

Yay! I'm going to be spending so much on Nonbinary Stones for all my creatures! ❤️

heatherm19 • 13 Sep 2022, 4:36 PM

SO HAPPY for such a change, and thank you staff for listening to suggestions! I have to admit I'm a tad disappointed, though, that it seems all already-existing creatures have kept their m/f gender. Even the ones with a 'genderless' profile, like the Yill... Are all --

heatherm19 • 13 Sep 2022, 4:37 PM

-- already-existing creatures that aren't available anymore just going to stick with their genders even if they have a gender profile of 'genderless'? So for instance a Yill, said to be 'genderless', will ever only be m/f unless someone uses a stone? Do I understand that right?

myriadium • 13 Sep 2022, 4:43 PM

@prairie that's actually a good idea, now that i'm looking at the new icons i kinda do miss the colors and it's looking pretty boring with the grey, so i think a pastel purple or yellow would be nice!

wonder404exe • 13 Sep 2022, 4:58 PM

OMG YESS ❤️❤️❤️

snowywinter • 13 Sep 2022, 5:01 PM

@myriadium I really wish it was like the star. Bullet/stone to choose symbol(initial catch free, pay to change after), but we get a menu to change the color(free). (might confuse people, but so does the spectrum. lol. - And some people just like pretty colors.)

snowywinter • 13 Sep 2022, 5:05 PM

(hmm... or maybe they all start with no symbol at all and we'd have to pay if we want the (a dual) symbol and color selector on them. - Since I wonder if people would pay to switch gender in the system I mentioned above.)

Ian • 13 Sep 2022, 5:08 PM

@ida92 updated the Lessama gender profile to genderless 😊 good catch

iia • 13 Sep 2022, 5:13 PM

I do miss the pink and blue icons. I must say the grey look kinda bleak :/

Ian • 13 Sep 2022, 5:55 PM

@iia you all seem to be missing the colored gender icons! I've brought them back. They're colored now, it'll take some time to update tho because the whole site's creatures have to be regenerated.

Ian • 13 Sep 2022, 5:55 PM

non-binary is still gray

wonder404exe • 13 Sep 2022, 5:55 PM

Wait!?/!? Some creatures still have blue + pink gender symbol?!?

Ian • 13 Sep 2022, 5:56 PM

@wonder404exe i've brought back the colored icons. it'll take a few hours for the whole site to update, some creature images have yet to be regenerated

wonder404exe • 13 Sep 2022, 5:57 PM

@Ian ohh!

Ian • 13 Sep 2022, 5:59 PM

heads up: my profile is all non-binary in case people want to see!

snowywinter • 13 Sep 2022, 6:05 PM

@Ian Thank you so much for bringing color back to our world! (will wait patiently.)

heatherm19 • 13 Sep 2022, 6:10 PM

@Ian I've often wondered, why does the gender-symbol and name of each creature exist as part of the creature image, instead of text underneath the image? To me it would seem like that would making it harder to do changes like this.

snowywinter • 13 Sep 2022, 6:43 PM

@heatherm19 I've often wondered that too. (But most coding jargon goes over my head so I left well enough alone since it wasn't broken.) Thanks for asking!

snowywinter • 13 Sep 2022, 6:50 PM

Hee... Looking at the newly caught list, Just realized those caught Hyacines before today, the male & females by the end of the month will be more rare than the new non-gender hyacines. They are in a very unique position/ transition time for EggCave creatures ^^ (stats!)

asmodeus • 13 Sep 2022, 7:03 PM

As someone who has lived as both male and as female, this is appreciated.

hinokazes • 13 Sep 2022, 7:37 PM

I've always tried to get both male and female creatures, despite this taking x2 more space. But I just can't afford also collecting them as non-binary, it'll be x3, it's too much money to spent, I can't x_x I'll stick with male and female, --

hinokazes • 13 Sep 2022, 7:38 PM

-- I'll simply trade the non-binary ones, like this if someone get a gender but want a non-binary, we could make a deal and both be happy 😊

raitonchidori • 13 Sep 2022, 8:05 PM

It's nice to see the site is changing. There are also other practical changes I'd like to see that would make the game easier, like: Shops showing if you already have that item; User Shops showing what item was bought and from who; Item Database search more precisely functional..

pipkitten • 13 Sep 2022, 8:10 PM

I'm loving this update, and the inclusivity! Thanks for being awesome, Egg Cave Team! ❤️

thursdays_dove • 13 Sep 2022, 8:53 PM

Oh my god?!!! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! Egg Cave team, you are AMAZING!!

minnie298a • 13 Sep 2022, 9:13 PM

Does this mean that some of the creatures we already own may change gender?

Ian • 13 Sep 2022, 9:19 PM

@minnie298a no. your current creatures stay the gender they already are.

beta • 13 Sep 2022, 9:31 PM

Though I understand the changes, and there are good intentions, it seems a bit odd for creatures to have a gender identity. Though it is meant to be inclusive, it missed the mark with me due to the impracticality of it (in my personal opinion).

beta • 13 Sep 2022, 9:37 PM

(Yes, I realize that there are "genderless" item themed creatures, and while it makes some sense for those creatures, it still doesn't really seem to fit with the rest of Ark lore, at least from my perspective.)

snowywinter • 13 Sep 2022, 10:04 PM

my brain's version of humor about the "oops" earlier today: I dub it "The Greyt Gray Mishap of 2022."

minnie298a • 13 Sep 2022, 10:55 PM

@Ian Awesome.
