"It was less than a year ago," she ignored his first bit in return. She'd gone there after- THAT. Had happened. They sent her there to recover. Blaine had been god-sent. Without him... He'd told her how to get her power back, how to tame it, everything. Saved her life. And he'd helped her escape.
And yes, he was cute. But, neither of them were the least bit interested.
She had just wanted to see if it would annoy Charm-ee.

Zach nodded, not really agreeing with anything, but leaned back a bit in his chair.
"Government labs really-"
He paused, and scooted a bit away from the table right before someone tipped over a glass of water, sending most of the liquid to spot where Zach's lap had been moments before.
"Suck." he finished his sentence.

She looked at the seat for a moment. "First hand experience?" She asked dryly. "No wonder you're so messed up."

Col stopped walking. If he took another step, they'd probably think he was running away, and he'd get tackled before you could say, "fresh air". He didn't really want to go back to the orphanage, but...
He started back.
As he did so, something reminded him there were Glaeroes back there. They hadn't got any updates on numbers or strength ratings yet, so he'd have to stay on guard.
Only Evie knew about them. And he supposed he didn't have to worry about her safety.
Sooner or later, no difference to him.

Zach silently shrugged, brushed away the majority of the water, and sat back down at the table.
"It was kind of obvious, right? I mean, why ELSE would I be interested enough to ask you questionings about YOUR life unless I thought it had something similar to my own in it?" he replied almost coldly. "Oh, and besides, it's only borderline insanity, which everyone gets after extended time at IoD."

She shot him a look. "Because i'm fascinating?" Raven asked sarcastically. "Well, we're nothing alike," she stood up and took her plate to the kitchen, then cleaned it and put it away like everyone else. For some reason she was suddenly in a bad mood. She didn't quite know why. She should probably get some sleep.
She started walking through the mess room again on the way to her own room, when she noticed two- no, three kids who stood out from the rest. They looked vaguely familiar~ but no, that wasn't possible.
One boy had blonde hair, and brown eyes- he was talking to the girl, somehow managing to look irritated and amused at the same time.
The girl, she had brown hair, and blue eyes. She had quite a high-pitched, girly voice and was very animated. She made lots of gestures, perhaps she was telling a story.
And the last one... She definitely hadn't seen him before in her life... But it didn't quite shake the feeling. He had dark tanned skin and black hair, and grey eyes~ nearly reminded her of Col, only this kind looked like he'd been brought up somewhere even sunnier.
It wasn't their appearance that made them stand out. It was more, oh, like they didn't mix with the others. Also, they were speaking in English.

Zachroled his eyes at the word "fascinating" and went back to stabbing his mush with a spoon.
Silence, then.
"I know, Jet!" a voice piped up from the other side of the table.
Zach glared up, and met Annabell's face.
"You nickname other people, right? Well, your hair looks jet black, so, Jet?" Annabell looked kind of proud of herself.
"First off, that's plain stupid." -Annabell glared- "Secondly, my hair is just DARK BROWN, not black."
She blinked. "It looks black to me."
"It's just the light, trust me. In better light, it will look brown." Zach insisted.
"It's still looks black, and we're under a light."
"Sheesh, it's BROWN."
"Denial."
Finally, Zach sighed and decided to head back to the room.

@taffy789 His nickname is Charm! XD *Girly*

"What'cha looking at?" Blaine asked out of nowhere, suddenly standing next to her.
"Nothing," she replied listlessly, then went back up to her room.
Blaine went and sat down next to Annabell. "What do you think?" He asked. (He didn't mean his new haircut for once (he doesn't have a new haircut)).

"Hmm? About what?" Annabell questioned.
"The food, the people, or the fact that Zach is in denial about his hair color? Because the food is disgusting, I can't understand the people, and I believe that Zach is defiantly in denial."

"Mm. I'm not hungry," he looked at the food. "You can't understand what the people are saying, or you can't understand them? They're fairly basic." He went through them. "Girlies~ Jocks~ Boy-obsessed~ Nerds~ Emos~ and the ones that aren't particularly interesting or good at anything." He pointed. Then he saw the three that stood out. Who? He wondered. One- no, two- looked familiar.

"Wonder where I would fit in with that...Anyway, what they're saying, of course. Sadly, I remember close to nothing from the one French course I took in regular school."
Annabell paused.
"Whatcha looking at?"

In his mind, Annabell couldn't possibly fit into any of those groups, not after what (ever- he didn't know) she'd been through. Blaine decided not to start explaining global body language and nodded in the direction of the three. "Do you get the feeling you've... Seen them before?" He paused when he remembered how Shadow had been looking. "Raven did too..." He murmured, his eyes narrowing. He couldn't quite put his finger on it...

Annabell focused on the three, wondering if they would see her and think of her weird for staring at them.
There was a long pause.
"Maybe... But they are no one I ever saw before, that's for sure." she shrugged, glancing away.
"Start naming random people you know! Maybe that can improve your memory." Annabell suggested helpfully.

Blaine froze. One of them had looked up and RIGHT AT HIM.
"No need," he muttered. He stood up and picked up his empty plate (which begs the question, where did the food go? He didn't eat any) and gestured for Annabell to do the same. "Let's just put these away and go back to our rooms. Do you happen to know where Col is?" He was completely calm.

Evie's thoughts wandered. She thought of a bet Col and her had made last year. She'd bet that Three would retire this year.
Everyone liked Three. That was why Col hadn't challenged him, ever. Not that Col challenges a lot. But still. It was out of respect. Three was everyone's hero.
Col's power, he claimed it made him invincible, unkillable. That's true, except when someone else's power can combat his ability. Two would never be able to kill Col, but Col would never be able to kill Two either, so the battle would be extremely long and boring, and no one could be bothered. Two would eventually be able to start hurting Col, when the latter got tired, but nothing critical, and it would take several days for Col to get tired, so, extremely boring.
Which is probably why Two is always annoyed with him.
Of course, One could probably kill Col without lifting a finger.

Change in personality= Trouble.
"Haven't seen him." Annabell replied, grabbing her plate also.
What had he seen?
She decided not to risk a glance at the three again, and simply followed Blaine.

Blaine went up to his room and checked; no, Col wasn't here. This was bad. "You just go back to your room and stay there. I'll go look for Col. Okay?" He doubted he'd find Col in time. But, if he could get somewhere out of the way...
Could he handle it himself? He had to try. There weren't any other options.

Anyway, on retirement; the only reason anyone ever really wanted to be a leader, unless they were power-hungry nuts (like Six) was because, after five years, you could retire. You still couldn't leave IOD~ well, not permanantly~, but you were safe. You basically got to do what you like, stay at the base and drink lemonade all day, or whatever. Officially you'd be "guarding" the place. Or, of course, if you wanted, chose a mission for yourself.
But barely anyone ever made it to five years. There was only one retired in the Falchion's base. And they were utterly mysterious.
Anyway. This was Three's sixth year as a numbered.
He'd been gone a long time though. She hoped he was okay.
Col had claimed he just didn't want any more freaking numbers tattooed on him. He had his original six digits, and then his three from his time in First, then his old numbered place from last year; 6, and then his current; 4.

"Go back to my room and STAY THERE?" Annabell sounded sacadilized.
"Seriously? Besides, what did you see? If it was something bad, I can help handle it. You're talking to the girl with at least one and a half years of government training under her belt."

Blaine smiled. "I wouldn't want you to get hurt, would I?" He said it jokingly, even it was serious. "It's nothing bad. Uh- PERSONAL. Trust me," he turned and started walking.

There was a rumor that Two had got his left arm tattooed completely with numbers; not all of them being his, just that he was bored and felt like it, or something. Would that make him masochistic? She wouldn't be surprised. He was in charge of torture, after all.
That made her think about Eight, Crazy Eight. Two and Eight worked practically hand-in-hand anyway.
Col reckoned that One had a crush on Eight, that was why she was always the exception to every [yeep] rule.
Evie wasn't sure she agreed though; because she thought Two liked Eight. (They couldn't both like her, because then Two would be dead.)

"Fine then." Annabell turned on her heel, and walked away fast.
...
A few minutes later, she circles back around, and started to follow Blaine invisible.
He might need back-up. And the fact she was also not how much to trust him still.
Besides, she still was a spy at heart, and a pretty darn good one, you had to give her credit with that.
Which lead her to wonder why she was in Six's group, and not Three's.

A few blocks down, Blaine eventually found himself in an abandoned, closed-off courtyard. Perfect.
He turned around, and, just as expected, Des was standing there. Just like he'd appeared at Super School. Only, the wings were out.
December. His friend. Until they'd found out about each other. Blaine, a government spy, a Kitten. And Des, a Glaeroes... Ranked number 6.
The number was clearly visible on the back of his shoulder, with him wearing a navy blue singlet.
"Hello, Blaine," he smiled.
"Long time no see," Blaine shrugged, hiding his anxiety behind an ice cold exterior.
*Nice,* commented a snide voice Blaine hadn't heard in a while. Zan was pumped too.
Seconds ticked by. It was starting to get chilly...
Des had made no noticible movement, but Blaine started to notice the air was growing... Heavier...
Too late. The pressure was literally suffocating him. What had he been THINKING, he couldn't handle the 6th strongest Glaeroes! There was no comparison.
The winged figure still hadn't moved an inch, yet suddenly Blaine was in the ground. He hadn't felt the foot slam into him, but after a few seconds it hurt like hell. He tried, but couldn't summon any ice.
He was... The light was fading... Slipping out of consciousness...

@taffy789 Do what you like?

NOW Annabell recongized who it was.
Kind of.
It was that dude with the creepy wings that she never really talked to. (Seriously! Those things were FREAKY. Unnatural...)
So... Was this guy an enemy? Or a scientist who'd found out about the plot? He seemed a bit too young to be a scientist...
Annabell hid behind a wall, weighing her options.
'1. Help Blaine, get him out of harms way.
Con: Creepy wings guy will probley notice an unconcious person being dragged slowly across the floor.

2. Charge the guy. Attack!
Con: This guy just judo kicked Blaine unconscious. He is either tough, or Blaine is pretty weak. Still, I only had a knife.

3. Find Col or Evie. Get help!
Con: Where are they anyway? Besides, it seemed like Col had something against "quote-unquote "Kittens". He probley buy popcorn and pay to watch Blaine get mauled.

4. Follow him the best you can. Figure out stuff.
We have a winner! If he flys away with Blaine... Well...
I'll consider pay back for what happened in that lab right before we came to IoD. And... Leon mentioned something about Blaine attacking him? Among other things.
Yeah. '

That being thought, Annabell went with choice 4.

@taffy789 XP LOL.

That done, Des retracted his wings slowly and looked around. "That was incredibly stupid of the guy, coming out here, by himself. He was ASKING to get his butt kicked?" He asked thin air.
No reply.
"You know, it's bad enough that you don't answer, do you have to be freaking invisible as well?" He complained angrily, running a hand through his hair.

(He's APPARENTLY talking to Annabell XP )

Annabell stared.
Was this guy talking to HER?
How did he know...
Eh, there was nothing to lose now, she reasoned.
Her plan to go with option four changed to option two in a heartbeat.
She found herself recklessly charge at the now not winged, but still equally creepy, guy, knife tightly gripped in one hand.
But her footsteps sounded to heavily for it to be called a sneak attack.
Crud.

"What the hell?" Des exclaimed, as a random blonde girl came out of nowhere, charging at him with a knife. He sidestepped just in time. "Hey, Lulu, this is totally not funny." He crossed his arms and scowled.

'This guy thinks I'm someone else!' Annabell basically screamed inside her head. Then she realized she DID have the element of surprise after all.
Swinging her leg at Des' chest with enough force to send a bowling ball flying, Annabell planned an escape route in case of the worse happening. (Which was still a zombie apocalypse, by the way.)

Des simply blocked it. He didn't bother exerting any energy. "Don't tell me this is it," he looked despairing. "There's no way they could have promoted you like that if this is it."
Then his eyes widened slightly, like he'd seen something. He looked at Annabell. "Okay. Either you're really pulling my leg, or- who the **** are you?"

Yeah, everyone went crazy at IOD. Sometimes it was Feral, sometimes people started LIKING killing, sometimes they just acted weird (like Eight), but often, they went crazy- about someone else.
Life or death does that.
But it almost always ended in tragedy.
There were lots of rumors about the Numbered's personal lives. Eight and Five particularly. Apparently Eight goes on dates 24/7 and then erases all memory of the event from the guy's mind. Scary.
Five just breaks a lot of girls' hearts, and then they get pissed and make up dirty rumors.
She remembered hearing Three's story though; the girl had died in his arms, when he was in First.
Four, his girlfriend... She'd gone Feral soon after coming to IOD.
And... Evie knew she was... Well, she'd always been crazy about Col.
But there'd never been anything there. She'd seen his office, and his bedroom.?Besides, even though he cared about her more than anyone else left~ in the whole world~ he'd shown how much he cared.
There was that saying, something like, "If you've got nothing worth dying for, then you've got nothing worth living for."
Martin Luther King.
Figures.
Col was the dead one, not her

@asi - Eight would totally do that. |D I'm happy now. ❤️ That made my day. (So far.)

Holy crud!
Okay, so her hand-to-hand combat won't work, and all she had left was the knife...
Annabell quickly flashed back invisible, slashed at Des' arm with the knife, and took a few steps back.
She should get out of here. Now.
But it probley was a bad idea to leave Blaine.
A few seconds later, Annabell grabbed the unconscious Blaine by the shirt collar, turning him invisible as well, and started to drag him off quickly.

Des stepped back just in time to avoid the knife and saw Blaine vanish too. "Just as talkative as you, Lulu," he muttered. "Well?! Are you going to stop them, or do I have to do everything?" He demanded louder.
He paused. Saw something.
"[yeep]! Answer- hey, where are you going?! Rrrrr," he growled under his breath. Lulu really pissed him off.
Sighing, he followed the invisible kid in the opposite direction to the one Annabell was taking.

Blaine felt himself being dragged away, and Des's powerful presence leaving. Being dragged? That was really unnecessary. He reached up and grabbed Blonde's hand to stop her. Looking around, he blinked... Everything looked strange... Then he remembered the sunglasses. He didn't need those either. He took them off, and blinked as his eyes adjusted. They were pretty dark shades.

Annabell let go of Blaine, turning visible again.
"Didn't need my help, huh?" Annabell was standing over him with her hands on her hips.
"What was THAT about?!"
She motioned towards the place where Des had been standing just a few moments ago.

Blaine shrugged and stood up. He didn't want to talk about it. He didn't say anything, just shot her a look like, 'yeah, and why were you there?'.
Then he figured they should start walking back to the orphanage unless they wanted to get locked out. He half-hoped Des wouldn't make it.

Annabell pouted, and turned to start back to the orphanage.
"Oh well. You would've died without me there, but whatever." she rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, 'Thanks Annabell'." she muttered under her breath.
