Would you like a re-release day once a year?

Heya!
So I'm back๐Ÿ˜ƒ And of course as a result of coming back 3 years later, I lost a bunch of my creatures while I was gone and so I had an idea. Some other adoption sites (such as Chicken Smoothie) have this day once a year where their pound (the place where creatures from deleted/closed accounts come from) would release pets that are retired or that cannot be obtained anymore. This event only happens once a year (they had it in December), therefore the rarities of the pets won't be altered too much. The pet(in our case egg) would be picked at random, so you could get a very rare pet or just a monthly pet from last year. Of course there are the normal regulations such as: 1) you can only get one pet during the event 2) if you are caught making multiple accounts to get more pets, your account will be frozen, etc...

I just thought this would be a cool idea to bring to egg cave so as to bring back some old, lovely creatures that are going extinct!

Post your thoughts about this here ๐Ÿ˜Š

ALTHOUGH...
Of course variations of this idea could happen to make everything more even. (suggest away!)

I'll ping @ian because I'm curious of his opinion ^.^

I just realized there's the Oasis but it's very rare to get a retired egg so I thought it would be cool to have a yearly giveaway-type thing.

@mintyminny98 Rerelease had happen in the past, but received a mixed response. Many people believed it lowered the values of old rares.

@iceiceice
I can see how it can lower value but based upon how many retired/unavailable pets there are and a random number generator, it's very unlikely that a user will get a rare egg anyway (if it was made that way).

Then again, the people who used to play Eggcave are now growing up and most just forget about their accounts and don't bother giving their pets away resulting in many pets (some/most rare) being lost into the oblivion. This has happened a lot and now there are so few of some species that of course the value of is high, but just like any other animal that depends on humans (virtually and in real life), will die off eventually and will cease to exist. We don't want our creatures to die off like the West African black rhinoceros โ˜น๏ธ

@mintyminny98
I love the idea. Especially since I did the same thing but it was only for a year. But I joined egg cave a couple years ago, so I didn't have access to all of the creatures either.

@iceiceice
That's kind of sad. Because I know personally I would love it if I could have creatures that are no longer accessible. And I don't really see how it's making them lose value. I mean they aren't antiques. They're older, some have said cooler, creatures that we could enjoy just as much as the newer ones. Now don't think I'm like mad at you or anything. I just think it would be lots of fun to have a big exciting event. Whether it be for egg cave's birthday or Christmas or just rerelease each creature for a random week at a time at some point in the year. Holy cow. Would you like a short story? Cuz you certainly did get one. ๐Ÿ˜Š

@mintyminny98
Yeah, I do agree with you for the most part, with the same reasoning as well. There are some creatures that are nearly impossible to obtain. Most reside in coves long forgotten and abandoned

. I could go on the same (super) long rant about the benefits and such, but I'm going to stop myself right there before I spam this place 0_0

@howrsetoo
I'm not against the idea at all. Regarding the Christmas Incident: When I read the older posts, the creatures never really lost any value. According to what I read, they released it for a very limited time. All he gave us was a -chance- to get the creatures.

I think people were against it because popularity up = value down, causing their special little critter to "lose value." (As far as I'm concerned, supply rose slightly, demand was still pretty high).

Also, note that I these were based off of posts I read. I only started to be active on 2015.

I'm really trying my best to not get upset over those old posts >_>

Wish I could find that post again 0_0 Also, on mobile so possibly incoherent. sorry!

@mintyminny98 - I personally don't give a crap that rereleases cause someone's precious little pixels to "lose value". So, I have always loved for something like this to happen. But of course, the community nowadays focuses only on how much they can show off and throw trade around their such special rarities. Like others have said before, they did get massively butthurt over nothing and caused Ian to never have a rerelease again.

I'll say the same thing I say on every other thread: I see absolutely no problem with re-releases. Who cares if eggs go down in rarity for a few weeks? When they are in high demand, they will go back up in value in less than a couple months. Basic supply and demand Economics 101 that people who bemoan re-releases fail to grasp. It happened with those Christmas creatures, and yet for some reason some select people like to use that as an example as to why Foos and Florns are soooo worthless now??? when that's not at all the case.

But alas, the bellyaching would be too great.

Sign me up for re-releases! I think it'd be a great thing!

Not everybody wants to trade. Not everybody cares what the value of a creature is. Some people just want the chance to get eggs they've missed, without spending shocking amounts of money. Don't blame them at all.

But with the reaction the past re-release got, I wouldn't be surprised if it never happened again, which is a real shame. It didn't deserve the hate it received, when all it was doing was giving a nice little gift during Christmas. If you look at the way values are now, nothing was affected. The reaction was all for nothing.

Honestly, I'd love it. But like @iceiceice said, everyone got upset and Ian said it would never happen again.

I believe greediness is the whole thing. I was here back in.. I can't even remember. I've been back and forth, but i remember it being not nearly as bad. (I traded a 1st stage Tine for a Rhine for gods sake) But then everyone got greedy, wanting over $20-$50 worth of cc for something they got for free - from the cave, or something they got for $5. Ridiculous.

That's why they got so angry about the rerelease. Either they feel they'll get less, or they actually did trade huge amounts for them.

I think the rerelease was great. Because I actually got a chance to get something I wanted, and the values were literally unaffected *pokes foo and roo* >_<

All the old players say no - "the whole point is working toward what you want, and if you make it easier to get dream creatures everyone will just want to leave" but honestly, i think knowing you will never get something because it's so hard is way more motivating to leave. 0_0

There is the whole "work hard for what you want" aspect too, I realize, which I completely understand. But eventually, all that work will turn to dust when all of the old users disappear (which is the inevitable), and with them all their pets. And even if they don't die, those pets will be sitting unhappily in that dead cove until the end of time, which is sad because no one will get a chance to get them. And yet some people like to just show off their pets but never play, which is also fine. I mean if I had a Macbot, I don't think I'd ever let go of that little guy. That's why I think we should have that re-release day, so that all of those creatures that are left alone and abandoned won't be the only living ones.

I think a re-release would be cool. I wasn't here when the first re-release happened, so I can't comment on that. I'd like a chance to find retired eggs I once had before my entire cove died off due to my year-long hiatus.

I think re-releases should happen once a year, but in small anonymous sets or rotations. So every year won't be the same and you won't know what retired egg you'll get.
And maybe have the re-release set up so you can only attempt to steal an egg once per day for that week it's happening.

I can get where people would be upset if CC eggs are added to the mix. I really think those should be exclusive to players who spent CC on those eggs and kept away from re-release events.

Just giving my two cents.

@thesplashingmagikarp
yeah I do agree that CC creatures would be excluded. Also I had an idea how it would just be that all of the retired creatures would be re-added to the cave for a day/week so that there's a big pool of outcomes.

I think it would be nice if CC creatures were excluded too. They have to remain "valuable", since every one of them in existence was bought with real money. The exclusivity is something we buy into when we purchase them, after all.

@mintyminny98

Huh, I seems like many old users are gone and community now have another attitude to re-release.
May be it's a good idea to make a big pool, where everyone can vote. With this we'll see upcoming reaction.
This is great idea, but we need to think of details.

I think it's great, cause it'll keep community in a good condition, without parting to oldies (who have old creatures) and newbies (who can't afford any old pets due to their value of 50 dollars).
I think a little re-release would be like fresh air, it'll make values a bit more realistic and will increase number of creatures that you can get via trade (old creatures are really rare and many of them are in coves of quitted users).

May be @eggcaveteam will say, is this possible to happen?

Deleted • 22 July 2015 at 2:31 PM

I alredy said what I think about re-relases in this topic, but I'll never stress myself enough, so I'll repeat it, in hope that topics like those won't go unnoticed to Ian's eyes...

" If done in a responsible way, everything can bring great happiness to everyone, and to the site as well. "

... I really hope Ian will give this idea some thought someday. โค๏ธ

@mintyminny98

First edition creatures / the "originals" would still etch out an appropriate place with value I would think .. as having a re-released creature as indicated by the "stolen date" would have less prestige...

It makes little sense, except for fervent greed, to get so upset about a 1 day release or even 1 week release ...

Well if so many eggs go extict then this is a great idea! It may help new players (like me) get more eggs and more eggs for the new players might mean less and less people forget about thefe eggs and there wont be as many extinct creatures.

Of course I see how this backfires because then there wont be as many rare breeds.

I don't think I have liked any re-release suggestions until today ๐Ÿ˜Š I think this is a good idea because it well hardly change the rarity of the creatures.

@emilianagerson I'm glad you like the idea! I'm sure that everyone would agree this is a good idea if the whole event was structured carefully so as to not mess up the rarities too much. It's more for other people to have a chance to get creatures they've been dreaming of. (Although rarities would be kept because retired eggs brought back to the cave would now have a newer steal date making the older ones more valuable than that creature).

@mintyminny98 I think it'd be unfair though if they released Cash Shop creatures though because people originally had to pay CC to obtain them, not just steal them from the cave. I think it should only be cave creatures that should be released.

Quick input: What if some creatures were re-relased but in the place they were from? (i.e. Cash Shop creatures re-released in the cash shop and cave ones in the cave) I would support that. ๐Ÿ˜Š

@silverjt We have addressed that. We were originally thinking only creatures that come from the cave be re-released in the cave. And I do like @jazzyleia 's suggestion too! It would only be fair to re-release Cash shop creatures too, but in the cash shop. (Maybe for a higher price than before? But that's debatable).

Deleted • 22 July 2015 at 10:38 PM

Maybe, during this so-called re-release week, one or two retired CC creatures can be sold at the shop for either the same 500cc as before or cut the price in half. It's like the few CC creatures released during holidays that are worth less CC than the monthlies.

I am in a position where I had to go a few months without being able to get more CC to keep buying CC creatures, and I'd like the opportunity to see them again and be able to buy them this time.

*Edit*

Oh, you guys already beat me to the suggestion. XD

So far I've never had CC, and might not for a while if ever. Which makes me sad that I can't have those creatures, but it makes sense. ๐Ÿ˜Š

@mintyminnie98
I support this idea, especially with the added idea of them being put back in the place they were released from (cave, cash shop). People honestly need to get over the fact that newer users and returning users want a chance to get older creatures they missed, that people want rereleases. They get all angry about it but honestly they need to shut it xD to be completely honest, if they chose to spend a lot/trade a lot for those creatures, that's the work they put in, but not all people can do that and have that option, so there's only one or two ways for people to get dreamies: Spending tons of money or a re-release. So yeah, I like this idea a lot.

@mintyminny98 I fully support this, as there are so many out there who are unable to achieve their dreamies cause they missed out on them or they can't afford themโ˜น๏ธ

So I think it would be great to re-release some creatures and help people achieve their goalsโค๏ธ
Also I think everyone should vote on what creatures will return!๐Ÿ˜ธ
