August 1, 2023 at 12:00 AM

Welcome to August!

Happy August, from all of us at Egg Cave! We hope you're enjoying the height of summer in the northern hemisphere. This month is all about the DIGITAL AND CYBERPUNK theme!

The 14th Birthday Creature: The Revelca

The Revelca is no longer available in the Cave—it's now available for 200 CC each, in case you weren't able to collect enough. Head on over to the Cash Shop. Available through the end of August (and then it retires).

Cash Shop Monthlies

This month's themed Cash Shop Monthlies are the Ledolup and Mectrigi. Do you have a favorite? They're available this month.

Cave Monthlies

Brand-new Cave Monthlies have also arrived! This is the Cibirio and Xatta. They look advanced in their technologies. Welcome to Ark...

Unvaulted Creatures

The Nym and the Raskoon have been unvaulted for this month only. These were the most voted-for creatures to be unvaulted. They're available for 1000 CC each! Get them before they're gone at the Cash Shop!

I feel like a lot of users are assuming things that we don't actually know for sure (and, fair enough, we haven't heard from any staff to clarify). *Was* that last batch more than it should've been, more than doubling? Was the amount intentional or a glitch? We don't know.

heatherm19 • 2 Aug 2023, 3:09 PM

So... @Ian @Orderedchaos could we please get a little clarification on what exactly happened with the Nyms, and what we should expect (doubling, more, etc)?

Ian • 2 Aug 2023, 3:19 PM

Hi everybody! The amount of Nyms that were rereleased were in keeping with the rule that the species population can only double at most, even though there was an increase in stock on the 2nd. There wasn’t a glitch here and this promise to the community wasn’t broken.

Ian • 2 Aug 2023, 3:19 PM

So, how did stock actually increase on the 2nd and why did that happen? It happened because the hard limit that was initially set to be released on the 1st was MUCH LOWER than the total that we could release in keeping with the “double population” rule.

Ian • 2 Aug 2023, 3:19 PM

This was previously done once before, but it was announced on the blog prior instead of being a surprise on the 2nd. I think it was even done mid-month or several days after.

Ian • 2 Aug 2023, 3:19 PM

It sounds like we need to give a better heads up (an announcement at least 24 hours in advance) here based on what I’m reading.

Orderedchaos • 2 Aug 2023, 3:28 PM

@heatherm19 While I do do a lot around the site, I am not the person who handles things like this and can not give you an answer.

bunnyshadow • 2 Aug 2023, 3:30 PM

If my math wasn’t wrong, I believe there were only about 80-90 original release Nym & there were more than 80 re-release Nym. Can you provide exactly how many re-release VS original Nym there are alive on site right now for peace of mind for the player base? @Ian

netherling • 2 Aug 2023, 3:40 PM

I've been here since 2011 before the Nym released the original time, And I can say that the most recent prices that they were going for before this re-release was WAY too high. It was also based off of the player base at it's release, which was considerably lower than it is now.

netherling • 2 Aug 2023, 3:44 PM

There should've been a limit of 2 (or 3 max) per account, no one should have over 5 unless they traded for them, because now we're going to see another wave of people complaining about how much they spent and that they're not going to get it back. Not for a long while at least.

netherling • 2 Aug 2023, 3:46 PM

But yeah a limit would have been ideal. I'm just happy to finally have the creature I coveted for 12 yrs 😂. I have no want to sell them because I didn't care about rarities or CC in the first place, I just wanted to have the creatures that I joined the site for when I was a kid.

peachy • 2 Aug 2023, 3:54 PM

If anything, a heads up on the amount of creatures that are going to be available would be nice. Also, maybe another wave could be added at 6AM on the 1st day for people in other time zones? Then we can have a fair 20% for *every* wave, instead of that last wave having 40% ;o

heatherm19 • 2 Aug 2023, 4:34 PM

I don't think it'd be a good idea to try to dictate what people can do with their real-money-bought purchases (limiting how many Nyms you can buy, saying people shouldn't buy to resell, etc). If people buy to resell it's a choice they make, and making a profit isn't guaranteed.

heatherm19 • 2 Aug 2023, 4:34 PM

@Ian I'm honestly pretty curious about the reasoning behind the decision to make a hard limit well below what could be rereleased and then releasing the 'extras' after the scheduled batches. That makes it frustrating and unfair for people who didn't stick around to find out there

heatherm19 • 2 Aug 2023, 4:35 PM

was an unexpected batch after the full stock was supposedly sold out. Knowing in advance would be much better, but I'm still curious why things are done that way?

newlife • 2 Aug 2023, 4:56 PM

Hey all, I finally compiled the final wave in the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kXuA6y7N_TAI_8Svj2PFSL8QdZJvuz9QOYVgczy1k5U/edit#gid=266426415 There was 153 Nyms released in the last "40%" for a total of 232 Nyms re-released.

mindwhiper • 2 Aug 2023, 4:58 PM

everything spinning around CC and real money, count of views for site, hmmmmm... I'm just glad that this critter sold out, but I'm also curious why several ppl who hoarding and reselling re-realized critters determinates whole site.

okami • 2 Aug 2023, 5:13 PM

@newlife Wow. O_O Thank you for compiling all of that information! I knew the last wave was big, but didn't realize how insanely larger it was compared to the first 3 waves.

spell • 2 Aug 2023, 5:42 PM

@heatherm19 Agree that setting the hard limit well below what could be released is frustrating - why not just set it at/very close to the actual limit? Less people would have to keep checking-in from not getting the creature in earlier waves and there would be less stress overall

bunnyshadow • 2 Aug 2023, 5:59 PM

@Ian -- With the assumption that there were only around 80 original release Nyms, and @newlife having the correct data on the re-released Nym in their spreadsheet, that would mean there were nearly 3 times the released amount of Nym (232 new) to the supposed 80 original.

raitonchidori • 2 Aug 2023, 6:12 PM

But why put the first wave with only 22 and says it is equal to 20%? If the last 40% weren't equivalent to 44, and yes to 153? Why not divide the 232 between the 4, which one with 58? So then people would know the proportion of it in real time. Making the first waves small, made

raitonchidori • 2 Aug 2023, 6:14 PM

People think the other ones would be small too. So those who bought Nym thinking it would have a small amount at last (88 more in total) wouldn't imagine it would become 232.

newlife • 2 Aug 2023, 7:03 PM

@raitonchidori This is what I am puzzled with too, the amounts in each wave are nowhere near 20%? Someone did the math, and 65% of the Nyms were released in the last wave, so there's something not adding up

newlife • 2 Aug 2023, 7:03 PM

Having 65% of the Nyms released in the last wave exaggerated their rarity until that wave happened, which is where I am frustrated the most.

sparklefox • 2 Aug 2023, 7:24 PM

I bought a Nym for the sole purpose of owning a Nym, not to resell later, so I don't care about this whole fiasco as much as I should. The rarity doesn't really mean much to me... I just wanted a Nym after all these years. Couldn't afford more than one anyways.

idol • 2 Aug 2023, 8:08 PM

I agree with Sparklefox. I don't really understand why people are complaining about the amount as long as it gets circulated to help those who wanted them who were previously unable to hopefully to get some. I agree it should be capped to 3-5 because then those who -

idol • 2 Aug 2023, 8:09 PM

might want to hoard or keep or whatever everyone choses to do with their creatures they should also have to trade for them just like everyone else. That literally gives every single player a fair chance to buy- same amount and opportunity as everyone else.

idol • 2 Aug 2023, 8:11 PM

Also in my opinion it shouldn't matter "too" much how many get re:released since like I have seen other people say we have the benifit of the pets having dates on there so you know the rarity of them. But maybe if there was an easier way to tell the difference between -

idol • 2 Aug 2023, 8:12 PM

a re:release version of a pet (like a special border or like a silver/gold star also in the corner of the pets image) something obvious so anyone can tell but not too obvious it like ruins the pet. Idk just adding my 2 cents.

idol • 2 Aug 2023, 8:12 PM

I just wanna say thank you @Ian and eggcave staff for even re:releasing these creatures for us all anyway. Some of these had been so hard and impossible to get for years! I think this step has been going in an amazing direction and I'm so greatful I have been able to achieve -

idol • 2 Aug 2023, 8:13 PM

a few dreamies I have had for years but never been able to obtain until this method or even trading other users that get them first. Just having them circulate is helpful so thank you ^^

raitonchidori • 2 Aug 2023, 9:51 PM

If number of creatures or rarity were not important, creatures should never be retired. All of them would be available all the time for anyone for the same price. What an excitement.

idol • 2 Aug 2023, 10:37 PM

Well that's why I think there should be a better way to tell the difference of rarity between the two. ^^

idol • 2 Aug 2023, 10:38 PM

If there were also more people to circulate the creatures it would help. Our lovely community isn't the largest and so many members have been here for so many years which is great but that just leaves the same rotation still constantly.

dragiigy • 3 Aug 2023, 6:12 AM

I am reading and reading.... common! Everything is about money. I 100% support @Ian ! Who cares about the number of rereleased Nyms? And who would pay 20.000 CC for Solis next month? So I hope, there will be 500 Solis available.

taunter • 3 Aug 2023, 7:03 AM

@dragiigy Iconic comment.

ninjagirl • 3 Aug 2023, 7:55 AM

I'm really happy about the Nym rerelease! Due to timezones I had to wake up at 5am for the last batch and when it sold out I couldn't wait around for an indefinite time, but the Nym was still there the next day which was great. It was nice to allow everyone a chance to get one 😊

heatherm19 • 3 Aug 2023, 11:29 AM

@dragiigy Love. This.

jlya • 3 Aug 2023, 11:43 AM

Thank you to @ian and the staff in the midst of everyone's frustration and complaints. It's impossible to make every user happy but several players have had their dreams come true through these rereleases. EC staff have listened to endless feedback. It's a learning curve y'all.

okami • 3 Aug 2023, 3:21 PM

I'm kinda surprised that the Raskoon is only a bit over halfway sold! I was actually more excited for that than the Nym xD I just adore how colorful the egg is, and love that it keeps that pattern in it's tail throughout the different stages ❤️

zoruna • 3 Aug 2023, 3:40 PM

I agree with you @okami. The Raskoon is beautiful too! If I could, I would have bought both, but I only had enough for Nym XD I'm glad it arrived this month, after the birthday that gave away 500 CC. Without that, I wouldn't have been able to afford Nym. Thanks the staff for that ♥

undeadheathen • 3 Aug 2023, 3:59 PM

200!

chapus • 3 Aug 2023, 5:37 PM

Hm, interesting question as to what is better-- keep re-releases to a minimum to favor rarity and value, or release more than double in order to allow more access? I (personally) do think the most important is transparency-- the "official" rule, iirc, was that only UP TO double -

chapus • 3 Aug 2023, 5:38 PM

- the OG population would be re-released, with some exceptions. I DO think it should have been made clear that the Nym would have more released, simply due to populartity, that way people who DO value reselling might hold back. Heck, maybe even release the official number -

chapus • 3 Aug 2023, 5:40 PM

- of creatures that will be rereleased, rather than have people guess and cross check that the rules are followed. I think its OK more are released to account for popularity-- it gives more chances for people to get some-- BUT there should be more clarity in the future.

Ian • 3 Aug 2023, 8:44 PM

@dragiigy thanks for the support. The purpose of rereleases is to be able to have and own a part of the site—a part of Egg Cave—that was completely inaccessible. Resell values are a secondary effect.

Ian • 3 Aug 2023, 8:48 PM

In the rerelease of the Nym on the 1st and 2nd, its population was doubled and kept within the limit of site rules.

metaphor • 3 Aug 2023, 8:59 PM

I was really looking forward to the Raskoon because I never got one when they were first released! I wanted a Nym too because I've traded away both of mine, but the Raskoon I prefer in terms of art style/animal.

bunnyshadow • 3 Aug 2023, 9:25 PM

@Ian Once again, I'd like to know how many OG Nym are alive on site now. @Newlife created a spreadsheet w/how many re-released Nym [232] there were & I feel like putting the OG number out there would give many users worried about tanking the value for a money grab peace of mind.

Ian • 3 Aug 2023, 11:08 PM

@bunnyshadow there were 250 Nyms alive on the site prior to the unvaulting (i.e. the max limit). 240 were sold as part of the rerelease and 6 of them were refunded (so a total of 234).
