There is a brand-new feature under Preferences—Main & Side Accounts—where you can formally declare and link your main and side accounts. Everything to do with linking your mains and sides are done directly from your main account and you should do this immediately. First, verify your identity via SMS to specify an account as a main account. Once you're verified as a main account, you can enter the username, password, and email credentials of your side accounts directly on the page, and link them instantly.
Since this is now a formalized feature of the site, we will no longer be accepting or acknowledging main and side account designations as they appear in your public profile text. This is no longer a valid way to verify your identity and who accounts belong to.
Email and IP address spoofing is relatively easy to do. Asking you to verify your main account via SMS is a way of ensuring that it's really you and that you're really a human (and not a bot).
We understand that people will need some time to link their main and side accounts. In the next 3 to 6 months, Egg Cave's moderating team will become much less lenient toward accounts that are not formally declared as either a main or a side account. When suspicious activity occurs on accounts that are not declared as either a main or side, harsher and quicker penalties will be issued against these accounts.

This feature of verifying your mains and sides is released in preparation for a brand-new feature at Egg Cave that'll be released in late summer. It will be an achievement-type system that will allow you to earn CaveCash without a direct buy from the site. In this achievements system, you will be rewarded for completing activites that you're probably already doing (like feeding and many other activities!).
Because this feature will allow players to earn CaveCash for free, it is vital that we have tools and controls to fight and combat illegitimate accounts, abuse, and fraud. Only main accounts verified by SMS will be able to access this new feature when it is released and accounts declared as sides will be unable to access this feature. Get ready!
No, you do not have to verify your identity via SMS to continue playing Egg Cave. Egg Cave is free to play, without a phone number. It is not required at registration. Certain Egg Cave features that may be big targets for abuse and fraud may require identity verification via SMS to access in the future.

things we are working on in parallel with this feature: (1) ability to recover your account via SMS and (2) option to show/hide what your mains and sides are on your profile (you don't have to put it in your profile text).

@kleineprinz main account identity verification is too easy to spoof via email, as people can create emails endlessly with free services. it is required to be via SMS.

Wonderful.... I already hate to give my phone number on the internet for pro stuff, so doing it for a game ? Really ? I was happy we could be able to finally get some free CC as a ftp player, but OF COURSE there would be a way to prevent me to actually benefit from it smh

@hinokazes i'm sorry. i feel similarly. bot fraud and abuse is so rampant in internet gaming that there would be SO many illegitimate accounts that will abuse this upcoming CC reward system. i'm sorry that the abusers have to ruin it for everybody.

@hinokazes your phone # will never be used for spam or marketing messages at Egg Cave. never sold and stored securely. it is to only verify your identity, if spam is a concern.

Man, what a time to join this site!! I've seen the long thread on EC-to-CC conversion, and seen so many people saying how they can't get CC and it makes it harder to get the creatures they want, when I saw this post title I thought maybe it would be tied to that. And it is! ...

@maylin09 that's the problem with abuse and fraud in online gaming: just about anybody, including bots, can answer a few questions. phone number verification is not required to continue playing Egg Cave.

I've already verified my account, don't have any sides (yet!). I am a little concerned how this will go with people who can't receive text messages, hopefully there will be *some* way for them to verify?

@maylin09 Because there have been bots. I've deleted a number of them. And cheating is a thing that happens constantly, and that's with just the Cave/Asteroid and not something as wanted as CC.

@maylin09 People can cheat to try to get the most rare things and sell them for a lot. There's people that do trades with real money involved. I dunno if it's the case for EC, but on other websites it can happen, so it can be very very bad if real money is involved.

@maylin09 it's not difficult at all! maybe see if you can use a parent's phone to verify your account. i trust that eggcave won't sell our info. we're a small community. losing players over selling their number would hurt the site significantly.
