Saria nodded, "Interesting. So how often do you teach?" She question and smiled at the two dragons playing.

@hedwig68 I am very un-dramatic by nature, so he's kind of hard to write for. X3
@alexandrias What's interesting?

Ceren shook his head once more. He could hear others approaching. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Saria and Firan, and an elf he did not recognize. "For a while," he said, his voice regaining some composure, "I thought I knew everything. For a while after that, I thought I knew nothing. Now, I don't know what to think." His smile spread as he set off for the dining hall once more.

@silver_winged Yeah I am very un-dramatic too. XD

Rynia shrugged, "Nobody knows everything but also nobody knows nothing." She said and smiled at him as he regain his composure. "Don't forget that," she said softly and then followed his haze to where Saria, Firan, and an elf she was pretty Kerain. She gave them a smile and then followed Ceren to the dining hall.

Saria smiled as she noticed Rynia smiling at her and pat Firan as he played. She looked at the sky and smiled as she thought of how pretty the day was. Firan nuzzled her hand and laughed. He saw Rynia and Sky and bowed.

Ceren let out a muted sigh. He raised a hand in greeting to Saria and Firan, made a mental note to introduce himself to the new alfakyn at a later time, and went on toward the dining hall.

The castle was a broad structure, crafted by the dwarven riders out of rough grey stone from the local mountains. Ceren could remember a time when the fortress was merely a sketch on a slab of stone, an idea unrealized. Now, it stood tall, rising organically from the mountain surrounding it. The ceiling of each room was high enough to fit Saphira, and would continue to be high enough for many, many years. It was multi-storied, with sweeping spiral staircases for the riders and broad windows and balconies for the dragons. The dining hall was located on the ground floor. It was a spacious room, lined with long wooden tables and benches, with multiple archways opening to the outdoors. Rather than walk the interior of the castle, Ceren chose to enter through one of these archways, waving down a cook as he did so. His typical pleasantly startled expression was beginning to resurface as he stuffed his guilt away. He went so far as to pull the bench out for Rynia to sit upon.

@silver_winged Cool. XD

Rynia gazed at Ceren for a moment trying to defy his emotions. She smiled at him as he pulled out a bench for her to sit on and sat down. Sky laid down behind the two and drifted off into waking dreams. When the chef arrived Rynia ordered a deer for Sky and a salad and water for herself. She then glanced at Ceren and waited for his choice. Sky opened her eyes and gazed around the dining hall. She had been here for several years but the castle still took her breath away. She snorted and smoked drifted from her nostrils. She gazed outside and saw hatchlings playing. She gave a small smile as she remembered when she had been that small. She had been easily excited and jittery, now she was calm and collected, usually. Rynia had been just like her and some many ways but Rynia had also been shy and didn't usually interact with the others. She was much different now, she loved being around people and she loved teaching students. As Sky thought she said to herself, "My how the years seem to just fly by."

"Oh, whenever I have a willing student to teach. I don't make anyone listen, they must choose their own path, and if that path means they want to learn from me, then so be it. I never turn away a willing student, be they urgal, elf, dwarf, or human. Knowlage is the property of everyone, not just a select few, at least to me." he said, his eyes turning to a lighter blue.

"Well it is good to know that you are willing to take any student. Well I might be there soon after flight lessons. So be ready for a terrible cook." Saria said with a smile.

Once Rynia was seated, he slipped beside her onto the bench, sitting perhaps a bit too close. With his eyes closed, he sat still until the chef approached them. Not wanting to be a hassle, he requested whatever it was they had to eat that morning. He would ask Kvaya later if she felt like going hunting; he needed a long flight to clear his head.

Ceren flinched at the sound of Sky's snort, his eyes jarring open once more. He followed her gaze outside to find a pair of hatchlings rolling around in the grass. Just slightly, he smiled, and turned to face forward once again. The dining hall was quiet and deserted, as most of the new riders and dragons had already gone to training. For once, he found himself entirely lost for words, and sat still as he waited for the food to arrive with his shoulder pressed against Rynia's.

@silver_winged

Rynia looked up as the chef appeared and order a simple salad and a glass of water. When the chef left she turned in her seat and looked at Sky. She smiled and she read Sky's mind and what she was think and nodded and she spoke and said, "Yes how it does seem to fly. I sometimes wish it would just stop all together and we could stay in that moment of our lives forever. There would be consequences of course but still." Sky turned and nodded, "I wish the same little one." Rynia smiled as Sky called her what she had called her years ago when they were newer. Rynia turned and followed Sky's gaze and smiled at the little hatchlings. "Oh Sky how I remember when you were just like them." Sky nodded, "As do I."

Rynia turned as she felt Ceren's shoulder pressed against hers. She gave him a small smile, "Alot on your mind?" She guessed as she looked into his eyes. She knew that there must be as she recounted everything he had told her. She saw right through his usual self and felt even sorrier for him. She however didn't show it because she didn't think showing her remorse would make Ceren feel any better. She gazed at him as if to say that she was here for him and that he could tell hr anything.

"If only you knew," Ceren mumbled in response to Rynia and Sky, taking a deep breath as an attempt to finally rein in his emotions. Empty your mind, he urged himself, exhaling slowly and deliberately. As he breathed out, he willed his muscles to relax, and his shoulders fell limp. He breathed in once more, his chest expanding; this time he could smell steaming vegetables from the kitchen, and raw meat in the cellar, and the damp earth outside and the clean wind and the dank mold upon the stone walls.

Rynia's comment startled him again, and he jumped once more. His voice caught in his throat, as part of him began to reply and the other part struggled to stuff down an apology. He merely nodded once and fixed his eyes on the door to the kitchen. In his relaxed state, he heard the chef beginning to approach it once more, and soon enough he appeared carrying their food and drink.

@silver_winged Sorry! 😋

Andrew smiled at Kvaya, sending his welcome through the simple gesture.

Niamh let out a smaller roar at Kvaya, leaping up onto her large feet. Niamh nimbly flexed her wings, using them lightly as she climbed up the opposing pillar from Kvaya. >>Hello! How're you, dear friend? <<

@skylark What are you sorry for? X3

Kvaya breathed a puff of smoke through her nostrils in response to Andrew's greeting. She had always wondered what would happen if one of the elves or perhaps Eragon himself tried to relieve the boy of his condition.

"I am well," Kvaya responded to Niamh, shifting her shoulders upward and back as she arced her back and stretched like a cat. A light cracking noise sounded from her spine. "And how are you, dear friend of mine?" She stretched her wings out fully before folding them cleanly against her back. Their tips grazed the ceiling before she retracted them.

Rynia arched an eyebrow slightly and looked at Ceren her eyes intense. She stayed silent for several moments and just gazed at him. She smiled as the chef laid her salad and water in front of her, "Thank you." She said with a smile and he nodded. She took a few bites of her salad and a sip of her water before looking at Ceren again. She began in a slow but steady voice. "Ceren you can't fool me. I know you have a lot on your mind and if you would wish for me to leave so that you may think I will." She stood up and picked up her plate and cup.

Sky watched the two and then said staring right at Ceren, "Ceren I can tell you have much to think of." She said and then shifted her gaze on the hatchlings again. She extended her thought and heard the faint sound of whom she believed to be Kvaya, Andrew, and Niamh. She listened on their conversation not in a nosey manner but in a curious one.

@silver_winged For taking so long. x3

Andrew went back to sunbathing, though he didn't quit talking to Kvaya. In response to her-not-very-well-hidden thought, he replied <<I have been suggested it as well, and many times too. There were many different ways; Angela, with herbs. Or surgically with some extra vocal cords. But most commonly with magic. All very obvious, pitiful, and dangerous.>> He breathed in and out, carefully, measuredly, and evenly. Breathing in the island; moist air full of exotic pollen and ashes from both dragons & volcanos, excelling; bad breath and last night's drink. Or drinks. He peeked open an eye to look at the dragons. <<I turned every one down.>> Closing his eye, he smiled in the warm sun's rays.

Niamh stopped, and looked at Andrew. Then she looked at Kvaya, and shrugged. But the worry didn't leave her eyes fully. "I am very good!" She jumped back down onto the ground and snorted, smirking. "Showoff."

Ceren received his meal with a murmured thank you in response, setting the dish in front of him. It was a simple meal of bean soup, with a substantial slice of bread. Unspeakably grateful for something warm to eat, he picked up his spoon without another glance in Rynia's direction. The feeling of her shoulder against his seemed enough confirmation that she was still there.

Only when she began to rise did Ceren react, his head whipping to the side. "No," he said quickly, almost sounding desperate. His hand shot out as well to take her by the wrist, but he managed to still his fingers before they could reach her. "Stay," he implored softly. From a distance, he could hear a roar that was distinctly Kvaya's, and another that he recognized as Niamh's. Through his and Kvaya's link, he could hear the two of them speaking in the back of his mind.

EDIT: @skylark Oops, late post. X3 I gotta' run for like fifteen minutes, but I'll be back soon.

Rynia raised an eyebrow before taking her seat again. She looked at Ceren questionably before she began to eat her salad again. She enjoyed how crunchy and fresh it was. She looked back at Sky and laughed as she entered her thoughts. "Snoop much?" She said with a joking tone. Sky smiled, "I wasn't snooping just listening to their conversation." She thought indignantly. Rynia chuckled, "That is snooping Sky." Sky smiled, "I guess....." She fell silent and then began to listen on the three's conversation again. Rynia chuckled and soon finished her meal. She pushed away her dishes and then looked at Ceren curiously. She wondered what was going through his mind at the moment. She guessed he was probably still thinking about the girl he talked about or something along those lines but she could be sure his expression was almost unreadable.

@skylark @hedwig68
"Come now," Kvaya insisted. She had borrowed the phrase from Ceren, who had borrowed it from a human trader he had met long ago. The young elf had been endlessly amused by it. "Surely you do not wish to be this way forever? A human without its voice is like a dragon with its roar." She looked rapidly back toward Niamh, alerted by the sound of claws shifting against wood. Her stormy grey eyes followed the white dragoness up until she reached the ground. "That wasn't showing off," Kvaya asserted, rising from her crouching position. She strutted down a support beam, her tail lifted to ensure perfect balance, before she too leaped to the ground. A short ways down, she partially released her wings to slow her fall, and did a flip before landing with all the grace of a cat on the marble foyer. "That was showing off."

Ceren trained his eyes on Rynia until she was seated beside him again. This time, he spared occasional glances at her while eating, almost as if he was afraid that she would try to leave again. His eyes would dart back to his bowl any time he believed she had caught him looking. He finished his soup quickly, his gaze lingering on the bowl before he turned to face Rynia again. His expression was truly unreadable, his eyes swimming with emotions of which none were identifiable. He did not smile nor frown, though his mouth was not entirely relaxed. "Shall we join them?" he asked in as neutral a tone as he could manage.

Rynia noted the sound and his voice and the look in his eyes. She gazed at him for several moments before standing, "Yes." She smiled a soft smile at him and walked over to Sky. She patted Sky and Sky's eyes fluttered open. Sky hadn't realized that she had fallen asleep. Rynia smiled and looked at Ceren, "Ready?" She said and sat in Sky's foreleg. Sky shook herself awake and looked at the two elves, "What is going on?" She asked slightly embarrassed she had to ask. Rynia smiled, "We are joining the three you were snooping on." She said with a smile. Sky laughed, "It wasn't snooping is was curious listening and I am fine with that so lets go." She said standing and Rynia slid of her foreleg. Rynia looked at Ceren and his now unreadable and stiff expression. She raised an eyebrow slightly since she had never seen the usual fun-loving and flirtatious Ceren act like this. She sighed, "Ceren is everything alright and don't say fine because I would rather you not speak then lie to my face." She said her voice keeping its usual calm but was dotted with curiosity and worry.

Ceren followed her closely, like a puppy trailing its master. He was of the disposition to surround himself with with other elves (or dragons, humans, dwarves, or even urgals for that matter) no matter the time or place. Whenever he felt discomforted in any way, his compulsive desire to be around others only grew stronger. Hatching Kvaya, he would insist, was the best thing that ever happened to him. He refrained from explaining that his relief stemmed from his never having to be alone again.

Leaning self-consciously against Sky as she and Rynia spoke, Ceren explained to Kvaya in a flash of memories and emotions that the three of them were coming over to join them. The silvery dragon took notice of the numb tone that colored his thoughts, though she did not respond beyond an affirmative.

As Rynia turned to face him, Ceren straightened his posture and maintained eye contact. "Everything is as it has been for the last thirty years," he responded calmly. "Although, I think you might know too much. I'll have to find another lady to court." He managed a wry smile, though the emotion in his eyes was still conflicting.

Andrew suddenly sat up, snapping open his eyes. He turned his head 90 degrees, as if to listen to Kvaya better. But then he slouched, falling back onto the chair. <<No. It's never work. Not even Eragon could 'fix' it.>> He suddenly felt very tired and hungry. <<Excuse me, I need to..>> he trailed off, getting up to go to their dorm room.

Niamh start to shoot back a sassy reply to Kvaya's showing-off, but her eyes fell on Andrew's back before he disappeared around the corner. She sat down on her haunches, looking despairingly at Kvaya. "Sometimes, he's impossible!" <<I heard tha->> "I know, I know, that was the point!" <<*scoff*>> Niamh scowled, then started scratching the marble floor with her claw. "Whatever." she mumbled.

Sky listened to the two elves. She was interested in what they had to say. Rynia frowned, "Ceren don't try and get past me with humor I know that something is up. You know you can tell me anything because I won't judge you but I think it seeks you have forgotten this so I am done." She spoke in a calm tone but it showed that she was done. "Ceren you need to know the truth and I will tell you it now. You are being difficult and trapped in your own world, acting like nobody understands you. Well you know what? That isn't working for me because I know you can take care of yourself but you aren't acting like you can . I will say this once and I am sorry but you need to grow up. If you want people to help you and understand you have to come out of your little hole and grow up. I get that you are hurting, anybody would after what happened to you. I will always be there to help you but if you aren't going to accept my help then what is the point? Why should I try and help you when you just continued to shut yourself away and be like this?" Her voice stated calm the whole time and then she looked at him in the eyes and said, "Bye Ceren you need time alone to work out your troubles and when you are back to normal come find me." She swing her leg over Sky and Sky took flight. They disappeared in seconds.

@silver_winged Dramatic exit.

Kvaya kneaded her paws against the marble. Her head shifted backwards, as she was slightly startled by Andrew's sudden turn, and she narrowed her eyes inquisitively as he spoke. She followed him with her eyes as he left before turning back to Niamh. "Sorry?" she said tentatively, though in the slightly offended manner of one who believes they have done nothing wrong.

The elf's face did not change, though he flinched often as Rynia spoke, as if they were physical blows rather than mere words. He only reacted once Rynia made a move to leave. Suddenly, his mask-like expression was broken, and fear flashed in his eyes. "Rynia, please!" he exclaimed in true desperation. "D-don't--ah--" he choked, his chest quivering as a multitude of different thoughts all struggled at once to get out. "I don't--I can't--" But by this time, she and Sky had gone away, and he was alone.

The old man crumpled to his knees. His eyes stared out the archway and into the grass until they were too blurred for him to see anything at all. His chest shuddered as he once more fought to keep his emotions down, to keep from remembering, to keep from sobbing.

Rynia turned to see Ceren on the ground and her eyes welled with tears but she didn't turn back. She had spoken the truth and that was all she could do. She laid against Sky's neck her eyes not able to leave Ceren, "What have I done Sky?" She said in a miserable voice. Sky sighed, "Little one....you only spoke your heart and mind you couldn't have done anything else." Sky since her sadness and finally landed in the forest. Rynia sat there for several long minutes and Sky broke the silence by saying, "It seems are wish to stop time has been answered but at the worst time." Rynia nodded and soon drifted off. Sky contacted Kvaya and asked, "How is Ceren?" Sky's voice had a worried tone and she couldn't get the image of the poor elf out of his mind and the way he had called for them. It had pained her to see the elf she had always thought to be as strong as could be broken down like that.

Saria saw Ceren fall to the ground and gasped, "Ceren!" She ran over as fast as she could with Firan on her heels. "What happened?!" She said urgently, she leaned down and shook his shoulder with haste. Firan nudged him and said, "Ceren-elda? Are you alright?" He was confused as to what was happening and wondered what had happened to the jolly elf he had seen about an hour before.

"Hmm? Andrew? Oh, he tends to go off the rails like this when something or someone really shifted his original foundation of thinking. It's really irritating.. for me, anyways." She huffed, "But of course I'm overreacting. He'll be over it tomorrow, like today was 100 years ago." Niamh shook her head and laughed. She jumped back to her feet, and looked edgar to fly or do something interesting. "Anyways, where is Ceren and his mysterious friend? I thought I heard him talk to that person about coming here."

Aaand rant-y post, just because I feel like it. Why are my two favorite genres tragedy and horror?

Kvaya, seeing Niamh rise, came to her feet as well. "I did not wish to offend him," she said in reply, her tail lashing in slight annoyance. "Although I have empathy for you. Ceren can be quite the handful, especially when it comes to women. He has had far too many 'mysterious friends.'" She snorted and rolled her eyes. "I let him be as soon as he decided to go and talk to her. I suppose the two have been a while, though." Just as she was about to reestablish their mental link in its whole, Sky's voice broke through. "I wouldn't know," she replied, sounding mystified. The troubled tone in the other dragon's voice caused her some worry. "Give me a moment, please."

Reaching out to Ceren was like opening the walls of a dam, and Kvaya was battered by a waterfall of emotion and a hurricane of rapidly-changing thoughts. Amongst them were more faces than words. Rynia's appeared first, calm but cold, and then again, this time sweet and smiling. Two faces of women she could barely recognize flashed by, as well as a dark-haired elven man. Then, he seemed to linger on a single picture, suspended flawlessly like a fairth:

A young human girl stood at the edge of a crowd. The sun was setting behind her, casting an orange glow to her long, curly brown hair. She held her hands clasped in front of her stomach, and her eyes looked up and away. Her lips were slightly parted, in wonder or discomfort or perhaps both. Every color seemed to blaze brightly, from the pink glow of her lips to the blue brilliance of her dress. Suddenly, the girl's eyes shifted, and she was facing forward. She was radiant, Kvaya found herself thinking. Glorious. This portrait of a woman continued to shift and change, as her eyes sparkled with recognition and a small, toothy smile crawled its way onto her face. She stepped forward, slowly at first, with her dress billowing out behind her. Then, she was jogging, her cheeks glowing with exhilaration--or was it embarrassment? The girl leaned forward and grasped her hand. Kvaya knew what it felt like to have hands, as if she had known all her life, and the girl's palm was warm and slightly damp against her own. "Come dance with me," the girl said, and as soon as she spoke, sound pierced the portrait. There was music from drums and fiddles, and the hiss of cicadas and a cacophany of voices. "I do not know this dance," Kvaya said, but the voice was not hers. The voice was of a young man's. "Neither do I," the girl giggled, and Kvaya could feel her heart swell. "All right," she replied, and she grinned; and then the evening let her fall, and the warmth and the music was gone.
