Every winter, my favorite activities are Ice skating and cross skiing, but even though I wear warm gloves and drink lots of hot chocolate, I still manage to catch frostbite from the frigid cold; that's why staying home, reading a paperback novel, and chewing wintergreen flavored gum can be just as fun - but nothing beats being chased by an abominable snowman under the falling snowflakes! 😸

:: SNOWY DAYS CONTEST::

Winter is probably not the most loved season. It's easier to catch a cold, and you can't go to the beach. Geez, everyone likes to go to the beach these days.
Plus, winter is ... cold. Truly, really cold. And this is ... the first reason for which I like winter so much.
You know ... when outside it's cold, there isn't nothing more beautiful, more pleasant, to sit next the fireplace with my family, while roasting on embers meats or wheel-shaped pieces of bread, to adjust with tomatoes, oil and salt. A really simple dinner, but it is like a tradition here. It never happens in summer, because in summer we never light on the fireplace.
And then ... when outside it's raining, or snowing really badly, or there is a noisy storm ... what can be more reassuring than being in the bed, under the warm bed linen, listening the noises of the outside, feeling really happy to have an house, a family, a warm bed in a night like this.
Winter is not all about snow, skating, sledding and start random snowball fights. For some people, like me, snow it's a rare event.
I admit I never did a snowball fight, nor I tried sledding or skating. I saw the snow once in my life and this memory is still printed in my memory, and will be really difficult to delete.
I remember it as If it was yesterday. It was 2002 and I was 8 years old. It was kinda shocking waking up, to find a meter and an half or white snow on the streets, on the cars, on the roofs ... just everywhere.
Ahah, I remember I was really happy also because for a week or so, my school was closed due to the snow.
I also remember my mother chasing me outside, with woolen gloves in her hands, begging me to wear them, but I didn't wanted to hear her ... it was my first time seeing snow, and I wanted to touch it. I changed my mind, when I stopped to feel my fingers, though.
I remember I forced my mother to help me building a snowman. She was a bit annoyed (and chilled!), but she seemed happy to see me so excited about something that a lot of people would consider common, trivial and even annoying.
Our snowman was really tiny and ugly. No clothes for it, because my mother didn't allowed me to, but I managed to put eyes on its deformed face, using pine cones' scales. I also put some branches as arms.
It was an ugly, deformed snowman, but in that day I felt like creating a piece of art. Ah, childs can be so silly, yet so sincere in their feeling and emotions.
It's probably that feeling I miss the most, as well with the image of snow falling down, covering everything.
I never saw snow again after that year. It's really unlikely for this to happen again, since my place is not really cold. However, I'm happy anyways because yes, maybe I will never again be able to see snow ... but at least I saw it in that year, once, and I can't still forget the feeling that winter brought to me.
After that, I understood that a thing so common for many, can be so rare and special for someone else.

It's great. I really like how much thought you put into it.
I can really picture that snowy day, with that tiny ugly snowman, haha.
For us, snow is quite common and we're all so used to it, so it's wonderful that for others it can be thrilling and special.
