Vladan crossed his arms at Skyler's request. "No." He said bluntly. "You do it." His foot tapped against the floor impatiently. "It's fine. You don't need to help me out anymore. In fact, I honestly have no clue who you are, why you are in my house and how you ever even got here in the first place." His voice remained level, but it did hold a certain amount of stressed out syllables.

"The only favor I need now is for you to leave and give me some time to myself."

"Ok. By the way kita just asked me to feed your pets when.." Skyler said, trailing off and not finishing. Her sentence. She walked out of the door. "Bye." She said while walking out. Skyler jogged to her house since it wasn't far and she set the suitcase on her table and fell asleep on her bed.

"He's suing us." Officer Huygen said with disbelief.

"What?"

"He's suing us." The man repeated. He turned towards his partner. "I can't believe it Warren."

"This is why we should have just let him go after the two security guards decided not to file a lawsuit."

"We can't just let him off the hook. You know this guy. He's a criminal! This isn't the first time we've arrested him."

"I know. He's smart about what he does. Veitkov knows the law well, and goes out of his way just to find loopholes. We can't lock him up without proof, evidence, anything of that sort." Huygens sighed. The man absolutely despised men like Vladan. Powerful, rich, fake...Hard to capture.

"Why is he suing us?" Warren asked, breaking the silence.

"We came to his house with a warrant and he let us in. Our officers didn't know he had a pet... Kerner shot it. Veitkov claims it's affecting his work significantly and that the harm of his pet has caused him deep emotional unrest. He says it was a triggering experience. The kid is playing victim."

Warren ran a hand through his hair, annoyance showing in his features. He sighed. "Is he serious about it? Can't the idiot just buy another one? What did Kerner shoot? A darn cat? I wouldn't put it past him to sue for a fish even..."

Huygen let out a bitter laugh. "You aren't far from the truth..." He trailed off. "However, the issue is that Kerner shot his pet lion." The man slammed a hand down on the table in irritation. "A freaking lion, Warren. The spoiled brat has a wild animal as a house pet. You know what he said when we entered the house? He told us to be extra careful because he had animals. Warned us not to open closed doors, and when Kerner did open a door, his lion ran covered in blood and naturally Kerner shot it."

"Dear god..." Warren said. "There's nothing we have against him. Who was the woman that was with him? Kita was her name right?"

"Yeah, I believe so. Kita Altobelli."

"We should let her know what happened."

Huygens sighed. "Alright, I'll go check up on her."

--

"Is she going to be okay?" Vladan asked the veterinarian impatiently. The woman turned to face Vladan, clipboard held in her hand.

"I'm sure Odilia will be just fine. The bullets didn't hit any vital points. In fact, she'll be good as new in a few weeks. She seems well fed, what have you been giving her to eat?"

Vladan had to hold in a laugh at he question, and forced himself to keep a straight face when he answered next. "Nothing out of the ordinary of any other lion's diet. Meat, water anything of that sort."

"That's wonderful." The woman replied as she gave Odilia a rub behind her large ears. "I'll come back tomorrow. Daily checkups for another week, and then I'll come back once every 7 days."

"Thank you." Vladan said with a grin.

"No problem, I'll see myself out now."

--

Huygen knocked on the apartment door, and he adjusted his belt a he waited for Kita to open. The man hoped she was home, there was a ton of paperwork to do on Vladan's lawsuit, and he wasn't looking forward to staying up all night.

The man hated to be the one to break the news to her, but he supposed he had to. "Officer Huygens from the Police Department!" He called out. "Is Kita Altobelli home?"

Kita opened the door. She was still in her pajamas. She had fallen asleep on her couch after several hours of reading and re-reading Tiev's note.

The officer didn't look too optimistic and that made Kita nervous.

"Come in... I'll make some coffee..." she said, unsuccessfully attempting to mask the sleepiness in her voice. She showed the officer to the kitchen table and brewed a quick pot of coffee. She poured it out, handing him a mug and sitting down across from him with her own.

"So...?" she said, taking a drink. "It didn't go well, did it?"

He thanked Kita for the coffee, and the man sipped it as he contemplated his words. The warm drink felt unusually good in his hands, as the whether has been unnaturally cold recently. He placed the mug on the table. "The nerve he has... His arrogant way he holds himself. Piggy-backing off his parents' money..." The officer stopped his rant and paused to calm himself down.

"He's suing us." Huygens finally said. He glanced up at Kita with the same disbelieving eyes he had looked at Warren with earlier today. "Not only has he found a way out of getting charged with anything, the guy figured out how to file a lawsuit against us." The man took a long drink before glancing at Kita. It was unprofessional, but there was an accusatory tone in his voice.

"You never told us he had..." Huygen trailed off. "Animals."

Kita looked down at her drink.

"I'm sorry... I assume you mean Odilia... his lion." she said quietly. "I had gotten so used to her being around, I didn't think to mention her... Crazy, I know..."

She took another drink.

"Please understand... I wasn't trying to intentionally hide that from you... I'm just..." she trailed off, trying to find the words. "A lot has happened in the last couple weeks. I'm trying to keep a level head but... I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do now... If Vladan comes after me over this, I have nothing. I'm sure he's furious after that argument... But with my word against his, who's going to listen to me?"

"It's fine." Huygen said. He cleared his throat. "There's nothing we can do to help you, and no one at the station wants to continue the investigation ever since his threats of suing. No doubt he'll want millions for the lion, the medical bills itself for the animal probably cost thousands." The man finished off his coffee, and he placed it back on the table with a sigh.

"That's whats wrong with the world nowadays. Those with money have too much money and those that don't have close to nothing."

"If we have a lead on him, maybe we can hire a detective to help. Are there any other facts you might have overlooked? Anyone you know that has evidence against him? Know any place where he could be..." He trailed off, hesitating lightly before continuing.

"Hiding anything?"

"No one that will testify against him..." she admitted. "There was a doctor that was over a couple of times... Willow something... apparently she's famous... but I doubt she saw anything that I didn't, but..." she sighed. "It's worth a shot. She seems to hate Vladan more than I do..."

"As far as hiding places go..." she thought hard, but couldn't come up with anything. "I don't know... I didn't leave the house much... and when I did, it was to take someone to the hospital for a sprained ankle... That was when I was kidnapped."

She wished she had more to offer... if only she had mentioned Puppet and Russell sooner... They wouldn't have released Vladan, giving him enough time to clean up...

"I'm sorry..." she said, her hands shaking.

"Ah yes. I have heard of her. We can try to contact her, but..." Huygen trailed off as he took a look around Kita's apartment. It was a relatively neat place, though it wasn't unusually large, it did seem a bit too spacious for only one person to live in. He could see into the living room, and the space was clean save for a paper(a letter he assumed) tossed aside on the floor.

Huygen tapped his fingers against the table as he glanced back towards the woman. He noticed that her hands were shaking, and he attempted to give her a reassuring smile. This was obviously a bad topic to talk about, and he attempted a subject change.

"Your apartment seems a big big for you to live in by yourself." He said. "You have anyone else here?"

"It's just me right now." she said. "There were two others here before. They're..."

It had been a while since she'd felt uncomfortable explaining it. Maybe it was because he was a cop or maybe she was just tired.

"They were arrested. One's serving time. The other died a year and a half ago in a prison riot." Then, knowing that kind of statement usually made people feel guilty for asking, she added. "It's alright though. I've gotten used to it."

Had she? Had she really gotten used to being alone in the apartment? Had she gotten used to only being able to talk to James under strict supervision? Had she gotten used to the idea that the last time she'd seen Xavior, he was in a coffin?

"I manage on my own."

That was a lie. She was late on rent again. She still had trouble finding places that would hire a violinist with a criminal record - never mind that the crimes were minor.

"Thank you for your concern."

Huygen remained silent throughout her explanation. He stood awkwardly when she finished, not knowing how to reply. A quick glance at the clock told him that they had been speaking for around an hour.

"I'd better get going." He said. "I have some paperwork to finish, and I don't look forward to overtime." The man pulled out a pen and notepad from his uniform, before scribbling on it.

"Here's my number if you ever need help or anything comes up." He said as he placed the paper on the table. "I'm sorry we can't do anything to help."

Kita nodded.

"Thank you." She said, "I'm sorry I can't be more help."

She grabbed his empty mug, setting it in the sink.

Vladan... He wasn't one to take anything lightly. She could be in real danger... She thought back to Tiev's note. Would she really be going to meet with Vladan...? Was it a trap?

"Have a nice day, officer."

The knocking on the door also knocked Vladan out of his revelations. His opened his heavy eyes drowsily as he pushed his upper body off the table. "I'm coming." He mumbled before dropping his head back into his arms. Vladan felt himself drifting back off to sleep once again when... Whoever was knocking had resumed their loud pounding on the door, and Vladan could feel the annoyance coming from both himself, and whoever it was on the other side of the door. He forced himself up, and slammed the door open in annoyance. Vladan seemed about to begin a screaming fit at the man outside, until he recognized the masked figure.

"Oh..." He muttered. "What do you need Teiv?" Vladan grumbled, until the other man's outstretched arms caught his attention. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair, arching his brows in disbelief.

"Really dude?" Vladan said, though he couldn't help but feel some sort of happy nagging sensation in the back of his mind. "Thanks." He muttered in mild confession. "Are these for me?" The man said with a low chuckle as he took the large bouquet of roses. He knew the answer before Teiv even got the chance to try to answer him.

"Kita?" The masked man nodded stiffly at Vladan's question. "Why?" He asked with a arched brow. Teiv's shrug was expected, and Vladan didn't press on.

"Thanks I guess." He moved to close the door, but Teiv's foot blocked it from shutting all the way. Vladan gave him a questioning look, and the other man gave him an envelope in exchange. "An invitation?"

It dawned on him suddenly. and Vladan let out an agitated sigh. The invitation had been made by himself one month prior, due for a business party that very night. He wasn't even near prepared. The dinner, decorations and the entertainment...

Oh. The entertainment.

"You're smart, aren't you?" Vladan said. Teiv responded with another silent shrug.

"You know where she lives?

Kita spent the day tidying up her apartment. She hadn't expected to be gone for so long, so there was a lot to do. Some of her food had spoiled and there were a lot of dishes...

Setting down her rag, she walked over to Xavior's room. It was still strange being in there after all that had happened... It felt too quiet... Too clean...

She picked up her violin, tuning it. It was probably the only thing she owned that was more expensive than what Vladan had... Her parents had gotten it for her as a birthday gift. She was an only child, so birthday gifts were a big thing for them...

She lifted it up to her chin, lifting the bow. She drew the bow across the strings briefly to test the tuning, then began to play. Midnight Sonata... One of her favourites...

"Are you sure this is it?" Vladan asked as he stalled the engine in front of the apartment building. He turned his head to the side to stare Teiv in the eyes, but was met with the usual emotionless white face mask. His foot tapped against the floor of his car, and he sighed in preparation of what came next. He left the car, but was stopped when Teiv grabbed him by the wrist. The flowers were placed in Vladan's arms and he pursed his lips.

"I don't think these are necessary." Vladan said as he tossed the large bouquet in the backseat. He slammed the door shut and headed towards the door of Kita's apartment, wondering silently if she was home, or would even bother to answer. The man knocked on the door as he adjusted the sleeves of his suit.

Kita's playing was interrupted by a knock on the door. She set her violin down on her coffee table and sighed. She wondered if it would be the officer checking up on her again, or maybe it was that guy who worked for Vladan.

She was wearing her usual 'at home' attire, a ripped and stained pair of jeans and one of James' shirts, which she had worn the night before. She doubted either of them would care too much...

She opened the door and was surprised to see the last person she expected... Vladan.

Her shock didn't last long though, as she moved to slam the door in his face.

"Not this time." Vladan said with an arched brow. He moved in the doorway, using the weight of his body to force the door open. The man stepped inside her apartment, and his gaze automatically examined the interior of her living space. "Very homey, but way too small to even compare to my tastes." He said with a snarky grin, before turning to face Kita.

"Hello." He said with a stiff smile. "I'm hosting a business party at my mansion tonight..." The man trailed off. "You, my dear." Vladan motioned extravagantly towards Kita. "Will be my entertainment." The man headed back towards the door, opening it with a fluid motion.

"Let's get going, Teiv is waiting."

She backed away. She couldn't believe he would come here after...

"Not a chance. Not after what you pulled at that restaurant." she said. "I want nothing to do with you."

She frowned, holding her violin bow out like a sword. It probably didn't look very threatening, but she didn't care.

"If you don't leave, I'm calling the cops." she added. "Get out of my apartment."

At this point, Vladan was starting to wish he decided to take those flowers from Teiv after all. He paused, as he sent a disappointed look in Kita's general direction.

"Look." He said. "Wait here, I have something for you." Vladan backed out of her apartment, giving her a long look while he did so. "We're going to start this over." He said as he closed the door behind himself.

The man left for the car, and he opened the vehicle's door, muttering words under his breath. Teiv glanced up at Vladan, and though he couldn't see his face past the mask, the man knew that Teiv was grinning smugly.

"Whatever." Vladan said in annoyance. "Knowing her, she'll probably trash these the second I hand them over." He said before heading up the driveway and towards Kita's apartment once again. He knocked on the door with the large bouquet of sparkling flowers in his grasp.

"Open the door." He called out impatiently.

Kita opened the door, annoyed, and was confronted with Vladan holding a bouquet. She frowned, grabbing his arm and looking into his eyes.

She had mimicked him. She was surprised to find that he was sincere... Not the result she had anticipated.

"Look... I appreciate that you're trying to be 'nice Vladan' and all..." she said. She was lying... 'Appreciate' was not a word she was associating with Vladan at that moment. "But do you have any idea how that would look? I accuse you of murder, and then I just go on and play for some business party of yours? You give me one good reason why I should be anywhere near you, and I swear, if you try to play the 'you owe me for my car' card, I will punch you in the face right now."

Her anger had numbed her fear of inevitable retribution for her words. She crossed her arms and waited for his response.

Vladan let out an obnoxious chuckle when Kita grabbed his arm. The answer was simple and his reply was blunt. "Because I need entertainment." He said. "It was Teiv's idea..." Vladan pushed the bouquet into Kita's arms. "You should put these in some water, before they die." He mumbled. Vladan was never one to favor flowers, though it was quieter contradictory to anything else he owned. Flowers were materialistic, and died easily. The man never found them worthwhile to keep or purchase for woman.

"I need you to play tonight." He said. "This party has been scheduled for today for a long time now, and it would ruin my reputation if I can't find someone to provide entertainment. All the artists I usually hire are already booked for the night and businesspeople prefer live entertainment over trashy radio music."

He paused before continuing. "You won't look bad in the slightest." His lips pursed before he tossed an idea out in the open air. "I'm sure Teiv has an extra mask you can borrow if you're honestly that worried." He said with a joking chuckle that didn't fit Kita's attitude in the slightest.

"You can get me back for that." He muttered as he pulled out a gun from his suit jacket. "Here." The man said as he reached to casually hand her the weapon. "There's a silencer on it." He paused.

Vladan let out a short laugh before placing the gun back in it's homey little pocket. "Never is a long time Kita. But if you insist, that I could manage to do." He grinned, before holding an arm out in an over-exaggerated gentlemanly manner. The man hesitated, before shifting the flowers once again in Kita's direction.

"If you aren't going to take these I'm going to trash them." He said. "And you should get something to wear too, considering how we did manage to agree you pick your own clothing before everything went downstairs."

"Give me ten minutes." She said, ignoring the flowers and closing the door. She went into her room and dug through her closet until she found a silky, purple dress from when she did recitals. She was thankful to discover that it still fit.

"Can you get the zipper?" Kita said, walking into Xavior's room without knocking. He seemed to be in the middle of something.

Xavior complied, pulling the zipper up her back, careful not to snag her hair.

"He's going to like that dress." He said, smiling. "It looks great on you."

Kita pulled her hair into a tight, but elegant knot, pinning it into place. She dug around the cupboard underneath for makeup. Setting a collection of items on the counter, she went to work.

"How do I look?"

Xavior batted his eyelashes, which were clumsily decorated with mascara. Kita turned back to her reflection, trying not to laugh.

"You're distracting me again. I have to be at the music academy for 7:00."

Satisfied with her work, she went back into Xavior's room to grab her violin. She grabbed a folder of sheet music and walked back to the living room. She opened the door again, glaring at Vladan, as if dating him to comment on her chosen attire.

"Let's get this over with."

Vladan sighed when Kita slammed the door on his face. It wasn't the first time she had done it that day. He waited impatiently outside, constantly glancing over at his watch as he did so. A small, elderly woman caught his attention as she hobbled down the driveway to the left and towards the sidewalk. One of Kita's neighbors, he presumed.

"Hey." Vladan called out, albeit a bit hesitantly. The woman looked up at him, and the young man headed over swiftly. His hands shifted the bouquet in his arms, and he extended the large gathering of flowers towards the old woman. "Some beautiful flowers for a beautiful woman like you." He said. The old woman let out a short gasp in glee, and a wide smile enveloped her wrinkled face.

"Is this some sort of practical prank?" She said as she took the flowers from Vladan's arms.

"Not at all." He said, as he forced a smile onto his face. "I just want to be able to make someone's day better." The woman let out a long laugh, and she peered into his face.

"Hey, I recognize you." Vladan shrugged her statement aside, before looking back towards Kita's doorway. "I've got to go now, I'm waiting for somebody." He said. The woman smiled broadly, before thanking him again.

"It's no problem." He said with a slight smile. His eyes dropped back onto his watch. It had been far more than the ten minutes Kita had promised to take, and he headed back up the path towards her door. He stopped right in front of the door, and made about to knock when it was pulled open. Her blunt words made him roll his eyes, and he left for the car without another word.

This time, he didn't bother opening Kita's door for her.

Vladan sat in the driver's seat, and nearly had a heart-attack at Teiv's silhoutte on his right. He had almost forgotten that the other man had been waiting for him to get back. Vladan scoffed at Teiv's sleeping form before starting the engine. One last glance at the watch told him that he had only a few more hours left until the scheduled party.

Kita climbed into the back seat, setting her violin next to her. What was she going to tell the officer if he found out? That it was a previous commitment? That she had signed a contract?

Tiev was in the front seat, sleeping. For such an intimidating person, he was full of surprses.

"So." Vladan said as he pulled up in the driveway. There were several other cars parked in the front, but they were obviously just delivery vehicles for whatever sort of decorations his party planner had ordered. He shoved Teiv in an attempt to wake the man up, before tossing the keys in the other man's lap to lock up when Kita exited the car.

He entered the house, and saw several maids rushing across the hall with empty glasses and wine bottles. A spicy aroma filled the air, probably coming from the chef's cooking the food in the kitchen. Fancy cloths covered the dusted off chairs, and the floor sparkled from the cleanliness.

A loud glass shattering on the ground cast him out of his revelations on how strange it was to have this many people in his home, and he resumed his usual yelling. The maid apologized meekly, before rushing off to get a towel to clean up her mess.

Vladan turned to see Odilia lounging on the couch, staring heavily at all the workers bustling around the mansion. Her flank and a portion of her body was bandaged heavily from the wounds, and Vladan waved one of the butlers over.

"Take her outside, the guests aren't favorable of cats." He said, watching as the man struggled to pull Odilia out of the room.

Kita grabbed her violin case and folder of music and followed Vladan up to the house. There were a lot of people there setting up the party.

"So what exactly is the plan here?" she asked. "When do I play, for how long, and am I expected to stay around afterwards to socialize or do I get out of the way?"
