Teiv let out a low chuckle, probably one of the few noises he would ever utter aside from his sighs, occasional throat clears and oftentimes scoffs. The yellow vehicle cut to a side lane, then evened out besides Vladan's car. He stepped on the gas so that he was ahead by several hundred feet. The guy in the other car did the same, and they edged up besides each other.

His brows furrowed when he noticed the kid rolling down his window. Suddenly, some sort of liquid(water?) was flung across his door and windshield. It sprayed across the glass, and his annoyance grew into full fledged anger at how immature whoever the heck that kid was, was being.

He turned on the wipers, and the glass cleared enough for him to notice that there was no one else in the vicinity. They had passed only a few cars during the drive, and it was probably due to how late it was. Teiv jerked the wheel to the left, so that he cut in front of the yellow car.

He stamped on the brake for a second, before stepping on the gas. The car behind him had to brake to avoid rear ending them, but from the speed that he was going, Teiv could see him lose control of the vehicle as it went twisting to the side. Teiv adjusted the rear view mirror just in time to see the car crash into a streetlight.

He slowed down significantly, and before long was driving under the posted speed limit signs. With a short glance over to Kita, he wondered if she was going to be fine after their little roadside race.

Kita looked back, watching as the kid climbed shakily from his vehicle. He was okay.

Her hands were shaking from the adrenaline. She wasn't sure what to say after that. She finally settled on:

"That was amazing."

She hadn't enjoyed a true race like that since Xavior was into it. Her driving skills weren't nearly up to par for that kind of thing, but Xavior had a thing for fast cars and had allowed her to come along a few times, riding passenger.

James had never come along. He always used to call Xavior an adrenaline-crazed psychopath with a death wish when he was behind the wheel on a regular car ride, never mind a drag race.

She didn't realize that she had missed it.

Teiv laughed, glad that she wasn't afraid or angry that he had done what he had done. He pulled up in front of Kita's apartment, and turned the engine off. The silence was almost unbearable, even though he knew he should have been used to it by now. He loosed his grip on the wheel now that the car had stopped, and he turned to face Kita even though he knew she couldn't see his face. It had been a long time since anyone had seen his face.

--

"Wait here."

Teiv complied, as he awkwardly shifted his weight back and forth on the front porch. He admired the view from his spot, and the barking of dogs garnered his attention. Suddenly, two large hounds jumped on his body. He let out a short cry as they ripped into his skin. Suddenly, a loud whistle emitted from the opened door, and Teiv forced himself back up on his feet as the dogs backed away. They whimpered as they were thrown aside by rough hands. He cleared his throat.

"I'm..." His voice cracked, but he forced himself to continue. "Sorry." He muttered to the young man standing in front of him.

"Don't worry about it."

Teiv gave the young man a halfhearted grin as he overlooked him. Styled black hair, a nice black suit, an arrogant air. Everything he had expected.

"My name is Vladan. You must be Teiv."

He nodded as he was led into the house and towards what seemed to be the kitchen. There was a large glass counter, and he sat in one of the wooden stools. Vladan had headed over and gotten a glass of clear wine, and placed it in the center of the table. There was a short pause, and Teiv could hear clinking as Vladan placed two glasses on the table.

"Have a drink."

Teiv wasn't one for alcohol, but he accepted it none-the-less. There was a slight pause as he reached up and pulled down his dark hood. He saw Vladan staring at him intently, and Teiv placed a hand over his white mask. He stopped.

"I don't judge." Vladan urged on. Teiv sighed, and pulled the mask away. The cold air felt unnatural against his scarred skin. His mismatched eyes held on Vladan's stormy ones, before he dropped them onto the glass.

"Th-Thank you." He stammered.

"For what?"

"F-for the opport-tunity."

"To a new beginning." Vladan said as he raised his glass. Teiv could feel a blush creeping up his cheeks at how eloquent the young man was compared to him, but raised his glass to meet Vladan's. Many dozens of shots later, with very few breaks in between, had led from one thing to another. Teiv watched as Vladan disintegrated from a cocky businessman to an emotional mess of sweat and tears.

Teiv stared at the unmoving figure across from him, and sighed. He stepped over to Vladan and attempted to force the other man up to a stand. He grimaced at the sudden weight of another body, and he could feel Vladan stirring against his body. He struggled to make out Vladan's words.

"I'll take care of you, if you promise to take care of me."

Teiv scoffed. What an insane statement. He felt arms around his waist and his brows furrowed in confusion.

A...hug?

With uneasy hands, he patted Vladan's back, before slowly venturing towards the living room he had seen early that day. He dropped the other man on the couch, before turning away. Teiv turned and gave the unconscious man one last look, before heading back to the kitchen to clean up.

-

He was knocked back into reality when a car drove down the street noisily. Teiv gave Kita an apologetic nod before remembering to unlock the doors. He took in a heavy breath.

"Take care of him." He whispered in his broken voice. "I..." Teiv trailed off. "I am almost-" He hesitated. Surely it was too much to ask. Kita had made it very clear that she was done with Vladan and anything that would have to have anything to do with him. Teiv shrugged, hoping that she hadn't heard him speak anyway. He wasn't being particularly noisy anyhow.

Kita was startled to hear the man speak. His words were quiet and muffled by his mask, so she didn't catch what he said, but she had assumed that like Puppet, he was mute.

Like Puppet... No... He was more like Xavior... Mysterious... Impulsive... and surprisingly deep and eloquent...

Tiev unlocked the door, and she assumed that he wouldn't repeat himself anyway. She was about to climb out, but hesitated.

"It's pretty late. Do you need a place to crash? I have a couple of spare bedrooms..." she said, not really sure why she was offering. She knew almost nothing of this guy... "If you don't need to, that's fine."

Teiv nodded his head. He normally stayed either with Dawn or Vladan since he had trouble finding a place for himself. Well, he didn't really have trouble, he supposed he just didn't like human interacting with anyone excluding the few from his inner circle. Not only that, he was only a button-man to Vladan, and it would be significantly unhealthy if he had neighbors that managed to figure out what he was up to. He was sure Vladan would call if he needed the car for anything, anyway.

He hesitated slightly, before opening the car door and exiting the vehicle. His hands tugged at the cloak that billowed around his body, and he noticed how heavily the wind was howling. It seemed as if the past few days, the weather had been mourning the loss of... something. His thoughts wandered back to the burning warehouse, and Torch, and the water enabled.

Teiv shuddered, but not from the wind. He glanced over at Kita and noticed that she had on nothing but her dress. With a light tug, he pulled off his cloak. He held it out to Kita, unsure if she wanted to take it or not, but offering anyway.

Kita was surprised at the gesture, but accepted the offer. She smiled half-heartedly, still exhausted from the day's events.

She led Tiev up to her apartment, opening the door. She was glad that she had cleaned everything up earlier in the day...

"You can stay in Xa... in this room."

She had considered showing him to James' room, but he probably wouldn't like the idea of another guy in his room. Xavior... Well that didn't really matter...

The bed was already made. She kept the room clean after all. His music recording equipment was organized neatly on the desk, next to a less neat pile of her own sheet music. She tossed the folder she had brought to Vladan's on top and set her violin in a corner.

She removed the cloak, suddenly remembering that she was wearing it, and held it out to him.

"Do you need anything?" she asked.

Teiv reached for the cloak. His gloved hands wrapped around the fabric, and he made to pull it towards him, but held on a bit longer as if to thank Kita for her offer. He tilted his head sideways when a low rumbling sounded in the room. Teiv bit his lip, he hadn't taken part in Vladan's dinner party that night--he never did. It would only make the other man look bad for someone like him to sit at the table.

He motioned at the shower, attempted to communicate with Kita in several short gestures. He pointed at his clothes, silently asking if she had anything he could borrow.

Kita hesitated, then nodded towards the dresser.

"You can use anything in there." She said. James' clothes would be too small, but Xavior was quite tall... They were likely of similar height. "I'll be just down the hall if you need me."

Kita pointed across the hallway. "Bathroom's right there. The shower's a bit small, sorry."

She walked back to her room and changed into her pyjamas. She crawled into bed, exhausted. It was poor manners to fall asleep so soon with a guest in the house, but she needed it...

Teiv would be lying if he said he didn't hate showers. He only took them for one reason, and one reason only--to keep clean. Otherwise, he remained stoic in his day to day activities. The man supposed that maybe it wasn't the water and such that he disliked, but how he looked when he took showers. Scars trailed up and down his arms and legs, and dark spherical splotches dotted his upper body from bullet wounds. Slash marks decorated his neck, and he ran his hand uneasily across his body.

The water peppered his body, and he ran a hand through his light colored hair. It was white, bordering a bright silver, nothing but a small side effect to his powers, he supposed. Teiv knew his body was unhealthy, but for some reason it kept itself alive with its regenerative abilities. The worse the wound, the faster he healed.

He stepped out of the shower, and nearly ran into a wall. Kita wasn't wrong. It was significantly smaller than the ones at Dawn's home, and even tinier than those in Vladan's. The mirror was fogged up, but he rubbed it with his palm until it was clear. Teiv nearly grimaced at the sight of his own face. Vladan oftentimes complained about his scar, and Teiv rolled his eyes everytime.

He stared into the looking glass, and something stared back. At many times, Teiv wondered why he had decided to take this path after all. Two long scars made their way from his forehead straight down to his chin. Another one trailed from the left side of his face, across his eye and down his nose. A fourth and a fifth sat on his right cheek, in a duo of small jagged lines. Teiv laughed bitterly. There had been more once, but they were gone now.

They say time can't heal all wounds, but it can surely heal mine... All except...

His mismatched eyes traveled down to his throat, where matching scars echoed his skin. Two long lines formed a large X over his throat almost as if marking the spot where his vocals had been taken away. Teiv forced his gaze away from the mirror as he pulled on the clothes he had taken from whoever had once inhabited the place.

One bright green eye, one deep amber one.

They dropped onto the clothing he had picked out, and he pulled on the sweater and pants. Even alone, he wanted to cover his body. Teiv reached for the mask, contemplating whether he should leave it or keep it on.

He choose the latter.

The man left the room and ventured down the hallway, wondering if Kita had fallen victim to slumber yet. He was glad that it was easier to look for people here, rather than in Vladan's multi-dozen room home. Teiv watched her sleeping form with patience, noticing the small rise and fall of her chest as she breathed.

The purple dress splayed across the bed like a blooming flower, and Teiv had to admit that Vladan had chosen well in the looks department. Had he even chosen her? Teiv shrugged the thoughts aside as he stepped over to the bed, before gently pulling Kita's blankets over her body. He patted the bed, satisfied with his work when he finished tucking her in.

Like Vladan, her face appeared a lot more carefree and innocent when asleep. He pushed those thoughts aside as he turned away and headed back to his designated room. Teiv sat by the edge of the bed, his foot tapping lightly on the ground as he checked his phone.

One missed call. Three text messages. All from Dawn.

Teiv!! Where are you?! Come home! 11:48 PM
Are you staying at Vlad's? )): 12:00 AM
How did Vlad's dinner go..? Bad, right? 12:04 AM

Teiv hummed lightly to himself as he texted back. The reply was almost immediate. He pulled off his mask so that he could read better.

T: No, I'm somewhere else. Sorry for not replying, I got caught up in a race and showered too o: 1:38 AM
D: Um... What?! You aren't into that stuff though. Whatever, tell me about the dinner!!! 1:41 AM
T: It was okay, up until his Daddy started criticizing him. He kept his anger in check though, well...until all the guests left lol. 1:44 AM
D: OMG did you just call Vlad's dad "Daddy"? HAHAHA You did NOT. 1:49 AM
What happened after everyone left? 1:50 AM
T: They got in a huge argument and he hit Vlad. After that, Vlad threw a temper tantrum and smashed 3+ shelves of fragile things. :[ I get worried about him sometimes. Especially since he doesn't take care of himself. 2:00 AM
D: Aww...that sucks. Anything else? 2:15 AM
T: LMAO. Yeah. He totally tried to make a move on Kita but got turned down. :V 2:17 AM
D: WTF? HAHAHHAAAAAA. We'll talk about this when you come home, that's sooo funny! Don't tell him I laughed though, he'll kill me for sure. x( 2:23 AM
T: Okay yeah of course. 2:29 AM
D: Alright I'm heading to bed now. I gotta rob a bank tomorrow!!! (; 2:31 AM
T: K don't get caught, he probably won't bail you since he's probably gonna be in a bad mood. Either that or he'll be drinking. 2:35 AM
D: Yeah yeah. Nighty Teivs! 2:42 AM
T: Sleep well, Dawn. 3:00 AM

Teiv chuckled before closing the phone and placing it on the table. He turned over to the side, pulling the blankets tighter over his body. A short yawn graced his rough features, and he closed his eyes in an attempt to sleep.

The nightmares still hadn't gone away.

Why Puppet was the subject of most of them, she still couldn't understand. He had been the least threatening of anyone at the warehouse... Even Vladan had tried to kill her. But...

It seemed as though the more she tried to forget him, the more terrifying he got. Lately his dream form had shifted to from a cruel-eyed human to a monster whose only defined feature was his cruel, scarred mouth, permanently fixed in an unfriendly grin.

As usual, in her dream, she was paralyzed, his control over her more complete than it had been when he was alive. He approached slowly, then sat down next to her.

You're mine now.

The voice was seemingly disembodied, but she knew that it was coming from her, not because she could feel it or it sounded anything like her, but because that logic was dictated by the dream in a way that never really makes sense when you wake up.

Puppet traced her jawline with a thin finger. She wanted to scream, but nothing came out.

The scene shifted to where Vladan caught up with them. They got out, facing off with Vladan, only it was James now, pointing a gun at Russell, not Vladan. This was different...

She could feel herself grabbing the gun under Puppet's order, pointing it at him, before looking away to kiss Puppet. Only, it wasn't Puppet now... Furious, James fired at them.

She woke up suddenly, finally free from the dream's paralysis, screaming, before realizing it wasn't real. Sobbing, she curled up in a ball on her bed, forgetting that she had a guest. It was 4:30 in the morning.

It wasn't Puppet that kissed her this time. It was Vladan.

The screaming pierced his ears. It took him a few moments to gather his senses and realize who he was, where he was, and why he was there. Not taking the time to put on his mask, or even pull on his cloak, he rushed swiftly down the hallway. He turned left near the end of the corridor, and his multi-colored eyes darted around the room as if to search for the danger in it.

What he saw wasn't a robber or thief like he had expected to have broken into his apartment. What he saw was Kita, curled up in a ball in her bed, sobbing. Teiv could see her shaking, and he sighed, unsure if he was in the position to do anything.

Pushing his hesitation aside, he moved to the window, unaware if Kita had realized his presence. She must have been hot and sweaty, as people always were when nightmares were involved. He unlatched it and slid it open, just enough so that some of the cold night air could seep and chill the room.

Teiv moved over to the bed, standing by the edge and looking down at her back. He moved to place a hand on her shoulder, in an attempt to make her feel better with his presence. His eyes downcast and face semi-shadowed from the dark, he awaited her response. Guilt graced his features.

They all had nightmares...each and every one of them.

Vladan. He would say it was a great price to pay in return for his powers.

Dawn. She was glad to have been gifted, but still held many regrets.

Himself. As for himself? Teiv honestly wasn't sure.

Kita felt a breeze and a hand on her shoulder. She looked up to see a silhouette. In her half-asleep

"Xavior...?"

No... it was Tiev. His face was hidden in the darkness, but she could tell that he wasn't wearing his mask.

"Oh... Tiev... I'm sorry... I woke you up, didn't I?" she asked, wiping her eyes. "Sorry... I haven't been sleeping well since... Well... You know..."

She sat up. She was sweaty and gross, but the breeze felt nice on her skin.

"I'm fine." she said. "You can go back to bed."

Teiv knelt down by the bed, before silently pulling Kita into his body for what he hoped would be a comforting hug. He was unsure whether she would reject his gesture or not, but hugs were what he had learned could make the sad and scared feel better.

--

He slammed the door to Vladan's room open, and his wild eyes darted around the room. Nothing was out of the ordinary, except for the shuddering pile of blankets piled on the center of the large bed. Teiv strode over to edge of the bed, and his lips tilted down in a frown.

"Teiv?" Vladan's voice was something short of a whimper, and Teiv sat down on the edge of the bed. He could feel the heat coming from the other man's sweaty body, and he moved to stand. A hand caught him by the wrist, and he felt himself being pulled into a silent hug. He let out a soft grunt of surprise at the sudden movements, but accepted the embrace quietly. Teiv reached up with a shaky hand, before hesitantly patting Vladan's back.

--

"Time heals...most wounds." He muttered gruffly. "Hopefully, it will...heal this one...too." His voice cracked midway through most of his words, but it was probably understandable enough for Kita to grasp.

Kita was surprised by the hug, her shoulders tensing at the physical contact, but relaxing soon after.

"Thank you, Tiev." she said quietly. "I'm alright..."

She wasn't, but it was a comfort.

She withdrew from the hug and found herself face-to-face with Tiev. His scarred face startled her, if only because she hadn't expected it. She smiled apologetically.

"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to be rude..." she said. "Powers truly are terrible, aren't they? I..."

She hesitated. She hadn't told anyone yet... not even James.

"...I've decided not to use my mimic power anymore..." she said quietly. "The sensory side of it... I can't avoid that... But... I can't do the hero thing anymore. I've nearly died more times than I can count these last few weeks... It isn't worth it..."

Teiv hummed lightly at Kita's words, almost as if agreeing with what she was saying. He nodded lightly at her apology, before standing up slowly. It was nearly 5 now, and the sky was beginning to lighten in preparation of the rising sun. A monotone ringing echoed through the apartment, and he recognized it as his cell phone. With an apologetic smile, he retreated from her room and back into his own.

1 Missed Call. 1 New Voicemail.

He brought the phone up to his ear, an listened intently.

"Teiv, I need you to go pick up my newest friend from the prison ASAP. I'm not in the mood to go out today." He dialed Vladan's number, but no one picked up. Teiv settled for a voicemail that was five short seconds consisting of a rough "Okay".

He put on his signature clothes, gladly enjoying the heavy weight of his cloak over his body. Teiv pulled the mask on over his face, then the hood over his head. The man headed towards Kita room, unsure if she had fallen back asleep or not. He had remembered Vladan mentioning waywardly that Kita's boyfriend was serving time in the same Enabled prison he recruited often from.

"Kita." He called out. "Come?" His questioning voice muffled slightly from the mask. "The prison."

The car ride was long and silent. It included nothing out of the ordinary, and Teiv pulled up to the parking lot outside the prison. It was still fairly early in the morning, and the sun was just beginning it's slow rise. The guards working the graveyard shift patrolled silently outdoors, and Teiv was allowed in without any trouble. There were a few wary glances, but they had gotten used to the masked man's appearance every few weeks or so.

He greeted the woman at the front desk with a short grunt, and handed her his phone. She read over the message, and gave a sharp nod before motioning one of the security guards over. He nodded as well, before heading down to the cells to fetch...

--

"James?" The security guard called out as he unlocked the cell. A pair of secondary guards stood behind the first, in preparation to suppress the Enabled if he were to try anything.

"It's time for you to go."

Kita followed close behind Tiev, disturbed by the lack of security checks. Tiev showed the lady at the front desk - a kind lady named Officer Amy that Kita had gotten to know quite well through her visits. As Tiev finished, Kita walked up, earning a concerned look from the officer.

"Please tell me that you aren't getting involved with the likes of those people." she whispered, keeping her voice low. "You're better than that, dear."

"I'm not." she said, suddenly realizing that being in the company of one of Vladan's immediate circle might give the wrong impression. "He offered to give me a ride."

She gave her a disappointed look, and Kita knew she wasn't buying her story. Although technically true, it wasn't very believable.

"I know what they're offering is a big deal, but it isn't worth it." she said. "Once you get in, you can never get out..."

What they were offering her?

James followed the officers, his hands shackled behind his back. The level of security was incredibly disproportionate... What was he going to do? Heal them to death?

He had a clearer head now than when Vietkov had visited him... He was still unclear why he had agreed. Clearly he had been manipulated somehow, and he suspected that perhaps it involved an enabled ability...

Teiv noticed the exchange between the woman and Kita from his spot in the corner of the room. He headed towards Kita, hovering over her shoulder protectively, not liking the fact that it seemed like the woman had nothing good to say. His dark silhouette placed a gloved hand over her shoulder when the double doors opened.

--

"Good luck." One of the officers said as he pushed the doors open. "I've heard rumors of what happens to those that agree to work with Mr. Veitkov. I'll have you know, none of them are good." He paused now. "There's a reason he comes back often."

James walked through the door, and the officer removed his handcuffs. He was in the waiting room. He looked for the man he had been told would pick him up- a tall man in a mask.

It wasn't difficult to spot him. He stuck out like a sore thumb. Someone else was with him as well, but they were mostly obscured by his body.

"I suppose you are the one I'm looking for."

Kita looked up at Tiev.

"I'm fine. It's just a misunder-" she paused when she heard a familiar voice. She stepped out from behind Tiev to see...

"James?"

"Kita?"

He looked back and forth between Kita and the man. Kita was with him?

"What are you...?"

"He was the prisoner you were talking about?" She asked Tiev. "Vladan wants James?"

She looked over incredulously at James. What was Vladan planning?

Teiv remained stoic, despite Kita and the newcomer's responses. Judging from the way they were acting and reacting to each other, he supposed they had some sort of friendship or relationship between them. Had Vladan known this and kept it to heart when he had searched for the new prisoners to serve under his rule?

He shrugged towards Kita, before swiftly moving towards James. The man placed his arm at the base of the ex-prisoner's back before pushing him forwards a little.

Now was not the time for chit chat, Teiv had things to do and places to be. He turned towards Kita before motioning with his head to the door.

No reply. Not because Teiv had decided that he would be ignoring Kita and all of her words, but because he didn't know the answer to any of her questions. Like the drive to the prison, the drive back to Vladan's home was just as silent.

Kita got out, opening the door for James. He hadn't spoken much, and she couldn't blame him. She pulled him aside.

"Look... I know what this looks like, and let me be clear... I'm not working with them." She said. "I got mixed up with Vladan while trying to stop a robbery and... Well things went downhill from there."

James grabbed her hand.

"Kita... These people are dangerous... You should hear the stories from the other inmates..." He said.

"I know." She said calmly. "I've seen it. Believe me, I've been trying to avoid these guys as much as possible..."

She looked up at Tiev. She couldn't tell if he was offended by this. "Tiev's not bad, though. He's just about the only one I trust in this place so far."

She pulled James along up to the house. "By the way... He has a pet lion."

Teiv hummed quietly under his breath, satisfied by what Kita was saying about him. He was glad that she trusted him, but was worried about how Vladan and Kita would confront each other, especially the former was in a sour mood. Teiv knocked on the door, and the sound echoed across the wide porch. He hesitated slightly, before trying the door knob. Unsurprisingly, it was unlocked. The sound of dogs barking entered his hearing, and he pulled out a key from underneath his coat.

He glanced over his shoulder at Teiv and James, almost as if to warn them about the animals that Kita had forgotten to mention. The masked man pushed the door open carefully, and let out a short grunt when both dogs leaped on his body. He pushed the animals aside, but not before leaning down and giving them a several short pats on their flanks.

Teiv stepped over the mess across the ground, a frown appearing on his face as the dogs hopped across the linoleum. He shooed them away, hoping that none of the glass shards had gotten into the animal's heavy fur coats. He headed towards the kitchen, and frowned when Vladan was nowhere to be seen. Instead of continuing his search, he reached into a closet and pulled out a broom.

It was time to begin cleaning up.

Kita took James by the hand, pulling him along with her. Unlike Tiev, she was not interested in waiting until Vladan appeared.

She went from room to room, slamming doors open. She was going to find out what was going on.

"Vladan!" She yelled down the hallway. "Get your sorry self up. We need to talk."

Vladan wrapped his arms around Odilia's large front paws as he closed his eyes. The man had just begun to doze off when the sounds of people entering his house brought him back into reality. He assumed that Teiv had come home with the enabled healer he had signed on, and he let out a sigh of relief at the thought.

Life was going to be a whole lot easier with one of those running around and helping him out.

Almost suddenly, the sound of Kita yelling entered his hearing. Vladan closed his eyes again, scrunching his face together in annoyance. "Just when I thought life was going to get better." He muttered under his breath. "I spoke too soon didn't I?" Vladan mumbled into Odilia's fur.

The lion made no reply to his statements, but shifted slightly closer to the edge of the bed. Her ears perked at the sound and smell of new voices and people.
