Kita looked up at Vladan.

She could tell he was using his powers. He would be able to see everything she was feeling... All the thoughts going through her mind... Everything that had happened to her replaying over and over again...

She looked away, embarrassed.

"I'm fine." She repeated.

Was she trying to convince him or herself?

"Let's go back to my place." Vladan said. "You need some rest..." He trailed off before continuing with much less hesitation in his words. "I need to take care of some stuff as well." The man wondered fleetingly if Kita actually was fine, but he decided that he didn't want to worry about it too much so simply took her words to heart.

Kita kept her eyes on the road.

"Did you..." She hesitated before continuing. "Did you see any of that...?"

She didn't know if he had had enough time to read her thoughts. She wasn't sure if she wanted to hide it or...

"I guess I never told you what happened back there..." She said, her eyes still straight ahead. "I guess it was unreasonable for me to expect you to understand me if you don't know... Xavior... He always used to tell me that when I'd get mad and wouldn't tell them why I was angry..."

The rest of the way home, she explained what had happened, from the car chase on the highway, to fighting alongside the girls, to Puppet... And when she healed Vladan...

She pulled up into his driveway, but didn't move to get out.

"I'm sorry about your car..." She said. "I should never have taken it out... I should have called a cab or something..."

Vladan awkwardly sat in the car. He listened to the story, toying with his tie quietly as Kita drove and spoke the entire way back to his home. The man felt as if he should say something, but there was nothing he could add to the conversation that would make her feel better but....

"Puppet and Russel are in the house." He confessed, not knowing what else to say. "They're dead, but you can take a look if you want. It should be a comfort to know that they're never going to be able to lay a hand on you ever again." Vladan mumbled, unsure if he was approaching the situation properly.

"No..." She said. "I would rather not..."

"Just confront him about it. You're a grown woman, I'm sure he'll listen if you pester him enough times."

"Vladan..." She said, not sure if she wanted to ask. "Dawn said that you weren't always..."

She stopped. "Never mind..."

Vladan considered pressing onwards for more information, but changed his mind. "I'm going to go get some rest." He said suddenly as he opened the car door. "You can take the car out for a drive if you want, maybe buy yourself some..." Vladan trailed off as he glanced over at her outfit. "Better clothes."

"Just try not to destroy it this time." He paused before continuing.

"I'm taking you out for dinner tonight. A restaurant I'm sure you've heard of. It's called The Silver Bay. They have good food and a good view. It'll keep your mind off things." He exited the car and slammed the door shut before Kita had a chance to decline his offer. The man greeted Odilia with a heavy slap on her flank, before shooing her away from him.

"Go go..." He muttered. "You can have the rest of the meal if the dogs haven't finished them off yet." Vladan said with a grin.

Kita sat in the car for a while. She considered just sitting out there, but changed her mind. She started the car back up and headed back into the city.

Ignoring the shopping district, she turned into a low-end residential area. She pulled up into the parking lot of an apartment complex and got out, locking the vehicle.

Entering the building using her key, she walked up three flights of stairs and followed the hallway to the very end. She opened the door.

It was exactly as she had left it... She turned on the lights and dropped her keys on the counter of their small kitchen. Everything was just as she'd left it...

She walked past the living room and dining table towards the bedrooms. James' was first... Very neat and organized, with stacks of books everywhere. Maybe when she could afford it, she would buy a bookshelf for him... He would like that...

Next was Xavior's room... It was as organized as James', but that had been her doing, not his... He'd always been quite disorganized, and she had taken his prison sentence as a chance to clean it up a bit... It was supposed to be a surprise, but...

She kept walking, finally coming to her room. She opened up the closet, looking for a change of clothes... She was about to grab another pair of jeans when she saw a dress tucked way at the back.

"It suits you."

She turned around to try to see it from the back.

"You didn't have to buy this." She said, though she secretly loved the way it flowed when she moved and the radiant blue colour.

James smiled. "I thought you might like to dress up for tonight."

"We're just going to a cheap restaurant... It's not exactly black tie." She said. "Are you sure?"

He smiled. "Absolutely."

Kita put on the dress, checking herself in the mirror. She grabbed a pair of matching shoes and sat down on the bed to put them on.

The soft sheets seemed to remind her of how tired she was though... She hadn't slept well in days... She looked at her watch.

Just fifteen minutes... she told herself, as she fell fast asleep.

The sound of his stomach growling interrupted him from shuffling through the messy stack of papers on his desk. His finger ran over the messy scrawling of the signature on the bottom left corner.

"James Miles..." Vladan whispered. He wondered vaguely what that man had to live for. The healer had seemed wary... Experienced even with handling with other people. Then again, his papers did write him down under some sort of gang activity and fighting, so Vladan supposed he knew how it worked and how they dealt with things.

The rumbling of his stomach caught his attention once again, and Vladan shoved the pile of papers to the corner of his desk. He didn't bother putting them away, and instead placed a stapler on top of the pile to keep any of the sheets from escaping the stack.

He ventured out of his room and down the stairs, wondering vaguely if Kita was still out. Vladan glanced out the window and saw that the car was still gone. He dialed her number on his phone, and hoped she would pick up. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he wondered vaguely if she had gotten into trouble once again.

Kita woke up to her phone ringing. Still groggy from sleep, she sat up. Searching her room for it, she finally located it in her jeans, which she had left lying on the floor.

By the time she had retrieved it, she had missed the call.

"Serves him right..." she grumbled under her breath. "Always ignoring my calls... He can be the one to call back for once..."

She went into the bathroom, brushing out her hair and adjusting her dress. Still tired, she set her coffee maker to brew. Grabbing a mug from her cupboard, she filled it and sat at the table, waiting for Vladan to call back.

Vladan paced back and forth across the entrance of his house, moving from the bottom of the staircase to the living room and back once again. His stomach growled once again, and he heaved out a giant sigh when Kita didn't pick up. The man sat down on the couch, but nearly jumped up when he felt some sort of liquid seep into his clothing.

He cursed and stood, annoyed that he had been ignorant enough to forget about the blood from the previous night's midnight adventures. Vladan went upstairs to search for a change of clothing, but found his closet empty when he opened it.

"Seriously?" He asked incredulously. All his suits were either ruined beyond repair, covered in alcohol, or smeared with blood. The man took a look at himself in the mirror, but couldn't ignore the blood on his pants legs. "Screw it." He muttered under his breath, as he pulled out the few articles of casual clothing he actually owned.

Vladan put on a the khakis he managed to find, and pulled on a simple white sweater. The man stared at himself in the mirror--he couldn't remember the last time he had ever bothered to wear casual clothing out, much less wear the color white in general. It was far more different from his black, formal suits. He ran a comb through his hair, before searching through the cabinets for his shades.

"Now where did I put them..." He muttered under his breath.

Kita sighed, grabbing her phone. She left her apartment, locking the door, and leaving the building.

As she was walking up to the car, she noted two teenagers taking selfies next to Vladan's car. She rolled her eyes. Of course... In such a low-income neighbourhood, it stuck out like a sore thumb... A really expensive sore thumb...

Walking past the boys, she climbed in and dialed Vladan's number. She turned on speakerphone and set it on the dashboard.

Vladan picked up the phone almost immediately. "Where are you?" He said impatiently. "I'm starving." The man muttered as he placed a hand over his stomach and patted it lightly, almost as if to comfort the organ into believing there would be food stopping it from reaching it's impending demise. Vladan went downstairs and entered the kitchen, searching through tue cabinets as he spoke.

He reached for a wine glass, and grimaced at the sound of glass hitting other glass. Vladan wondered if he could get away with drinking without Kita noticing, or minding for that matter. The stress was beginning to get to him, and he needed a reliever.

"I'm on my way." she replied. "I'll be there in fifteen minutes."

She felt a little better, now that she had gotten some sleep, but even then...

She shook off the feeling. She couldn't dwell on that now.

"Before you ask, your car is fine."

"Great." Vladan said. "But the car isn't what I'm worried about right now." He muttered. "We're going to go shopping after dinner, whether you like it or not." The man said bluntly. He put Kita on speaker, and placed the phone on the table as he poured himself a glass of fine wine.

Vladan picked up the phone and held it in between his right ear and shoulder as he moved towards the door, glass still in hand. "Are you going to be driving?" He asked as he contemplated the drink in his hand.

Kita heard the sound of a drink being poured and frowned. The last thing she wanted was to have to babysit him all night...

"No... I'm pretty tired right now." she said. "You should drive."

She was nearly at the house now. She sighed.

"As long as it doesn't take too long... Like I said... I'm tired. I don't want to be out all night."

Vladan considered not drinking the alcohol at all, but shrugged and downed the entire glass in one gulp. It would have been waste to just pour it down the drink anyway, and coming back for it later wouldn't be worth it. The wine wouldn't taste the same as it would when it was freshly chilled.

"You can just sit in the car while I go buy." He offered as he placed the glass on top of a cabinet.

"Fine." she said, still too tired to argue.

She pulled up into the driveway.

"I'm here. Come out." she said.

She moved over into the passenger's side. Laying back in the seat, she waited for Vladan.

Vladan got in the car, closing the door with a solid pull as he sat down. He reached up to adjust his tie, but fumbled awkwardly when there wasn't one. The man glanced over at Kita, and nearly did a double take. He stared at her dress, and the man pushed up his shades to get a closer look. The brilliant blue looked odd on her, but maybe it was because it was such an elegant dress that it didn't really fit his current image of her.

Nevertheless...

"You look nice." He said, before his lips tilted upwards into a small smirk. "You didn't have to get all dressed up just for me." Vladan added with an arrogant flare. "It's a simple dinner, is all."

Kita rolled her eyes.

"Nothing is simple when you're around..." she said, her sarcastic tone returning somewhat, despite her mellowed attitude. "I assumed we'd be going to some high-end place, knowing you... I didn't want to stand out..."

She looked over his much simpler attire. "Did you lose a bet with Dawn or something?" she asked.

Vladan grimaced playfully at Kita's sarcastic remarks. "Ouch." He said. "That hurt my feelings, you better watch what you say." The man replied as he pulled his shades down over his face and turned forwards.

"The only things I've been losing recently are all my suits, actually." Vladan added. "They're all either stained, lost, or missing." He muttered. "With how many I've misplaced or destroyed, I probably could buy another car with that money."

Kita looked out of the window. She felt weird about looking him in the eye lately... She had told him about what had happened to her, but she didn't want him to know all the feelings associated with those memories...

She had been weak... She had let them destroy her... She couldn't let him see that damage...

"And whose fault is that?" she asked. "I doubt they ruined themselves...And don't go blaming it on anyone else either..."

"I wouldn't mind taking the blame for it." Vladan mumbled. "I see and value benefits and rewards that aren't money related." He muttered. "Life's lessons are a lot more valuable than just a suit that I can buy a duplicate of for just another few thousand dollars."

Kita frowned. "You do know that you don't have to spend that much on something you're just going to wreck anyway..."

She crossed her arms, still looking out the window.

"Just what are you trying to prove with all this fancy and expensive crap...?" she asked. "You obviously don't care about anyone's opinion... So who are you trying to impress?"

"I dunno, you tell me..." she said, turning to face him. "You're the one driving."

She accidentally made eye contact, but quickly looked away, not sure if he had seen... She refused to let him see how vulnerable she felt... Men like him preyed on the vulnerable...

She needed to keep her guard up... He was volatile.. He had nearly killed her... She was letting herself get comfortable around him, despite having almost lost her life to him twice...

The very thought of what she had come to realize concerned her... She didn't want him to realize how weak she really was... She couldn't let him know that she was scared of him...

He was an arrogant, ignorant child holding a firearm... She was conflicted around him... Feeling compassion and frustration and fear all at once...

It was maddening.

"Right." Vladan said as he started up the car. The rest of the way to their destination was silent, and he idled b the front of the restaurant, where a valet working stepped up and opened the door for him. Without a word of thanks, Vladan handed the working man his keys, before exiting the car and opening Kita's door.

"Ready?"

"Hmm? Oh... Yeah..." She said, completely distracted by her thoughts. She stepped out of the vehicle, and the valet drove the vehicle away.

Vladan hadn't said anything the entire way there. She wished she could know what he was thinking... Looking at him made her nervous. He intimidated her... But she couldn't let him get to her...

She followed him into the restaurant, impressed by the extravagant architecture. Everything was so beautiful...

She could mimic him... Find out what he was thinking... He probably wouldn't even notice... Just a touch on the arm... She clenched her fists. No... She didn't want to know.

"Welcome to the Silver Bay, madam." The restaurant receptionist greeted Kita with a big smile. "A seat for two?" She asked as a waiter stepped up towards the duo and motioned for the two of them to follow him.

Vladan rolled his eyes at how the employees directed all their questions at Kita, scoffing at how they had the impression that she was the one that they had to suck up to. He supposed it wasn't much of a surprise, considering how well dressed she was compared to him. He decided to let it slide this time, allowing them to pamper the woman.

"Would you like to sit indoors or out?" The waiter questioned.
