Sentence: "Murder Observed Naively" was the explanation for what had happened. Due to inadequate knowledge and resources, investigators and medics incorrectly identified Beetle as being dead at the crime scene. In reality, Beetle hadn't been dead at all...
Beetle opens the door, greets Dove, takes his package, and retreats inside as quickly as possible. He's going through a bit of an anxious spell at the moment, and doesn't like interacting with people or going outside any more than is necessary. Excited, he sits down and begins to cut through the tape on the box. He's been waiting for this for weeks, after one of his favourite toy companies offered a free surprise gift per person, shipping included! He's not sure what it will be but he's not nervous because he's bought so many things from this toy company and they're always so good and so fun.
Beetle opens the box and eagerly lifts out what's inside, and it's... another box?
"Hmm," he says aloud, turning it over and over. "There must be something here..."
After many minutes of examining, he is unable to find anything. Sighing, he places it on the windowsill and sits down. He was hoping he would have something fun to take his mind off his anxiety, but alas.
Suddenly, with no warning, the box explodes open! The red paint around the edge of the lid flakes off onto Beetle's lap. It's a brand new jack-in-the-box! Beetle doesn't notice this however, as the sudden action combined with his current anxious temperament had caused him to go into thanatosis, or tonic immobility. He curls up and becomes seemingly unresponsive.
As is usual, Beetle retains consciousness and awareness of his surroundings, and quickly realises the apparent threat has dissipated. However, he is very exhausted after being so jumpy for so long, and very quickly "falls asleep" and loses this consciousness, while in the same position.
A cool breeze blows through the room, unbalancing the slightly too surprising jack-in-the-box off the windowsill and into the bushes below.
Several days later, Beetle roused from his impromptu diapause (hibernation) to find himself underground, surrounded by fresh soil. Very confused and disoriented, he dug his way out to the surface, and made his way to the nearest building, which happened to be the local police station. Along the way he passed a couple of animals who paled and quaked as if they were seeing a ghost. Entering the police station, he received the same treatment from the officers inside. He was ushered into an interview room, where he haltingly and confusedly recounted his recent experiences, shedding light on the situation and resolving the confusing case of the avian murderers.

Everyone is glad to have a celebration after the confusing debacle of Beetle's supposed death - and no one more than Beetle himself, who is contentedly nursing a cup of juice in the corner. All is well in animal world once more. ~The End~

Sorry I got really carried away with yesterday's one, I didn't realise quite how long it was getting :") I certainly won't be doing this story thing again especially as it's not as on topic as it probably should be but I hope anyone who was following it enjoyed!
