Hello all!

Welcome to the Galleries beta megathread! This thread is for users who are currently a part of the beta to submit their feedback, suggestions, and ideas. If you are not yet in the beta, feel free to lurk and watch but please wait to be let in before posting here (you haven't seen it yet!).

If you've been let into the beta, you'll have received a notification and see links to Galleries around the site under the Shops top navigation drop down menu.

We're excited! Let's go! 😊

How Galleries Work

• Navigate to your Inventory
• Select an individual item and commit the action "Send To Gallery"
• OR from your Inventory mass move (tick the boxes) and "Send To Gallery"
• Then, manage your Gallery by navigating to Galleries

Things Welcomed

• Reporting stuff that breaks and doesn't work (please include the page URL and what you did)
• Stuff that you feel like is missing and should be there
• Your suggestions, ideas, feedback to improve Galleries
• Additional feature requests: "Hey, could it do this..."

Things That Aren't Helpful

• "It's like shops" — yes, it's similar
• Suggestions that aren't specific or actionable enough
• Bug reports that don't explain what you did and what page you were on

Let the discussion commence!

I know galleries are structured/work more like user shops but I wish they could have a tabs function like our coves do, so if you want multiple "mini galleries" that have a theme (like a museum) it would be possible 😊

I already love the ability to drag the items! However, I was wondering if it was possible to incorporate the management page into a grid layout rather than a list? it might help in cutting down all the scrolling that has to be done as well.

Also I also quite like the gallery tabs idea that @/musical_slytherclaw brought up! initially i thought that it would be another section in our main profile (in between the profile text and the creatures), and i would love to be able to section off my items into different lists!

Request for adding a +5 or +10 at a time for purchasing gallery spaces? I don't know if it's just me but adding one by one is too tedious xD

Excited to test this out! c:

Something That Doesn't Work Is When You Go To Your Inventory And Click On An Individual Item To View "Options" Then Proceeding To Click "Move To Your Gallery", Once Gone Through It Tells You "This item has been moved to (your Gallery)." Clicking On "Your Gallery" Brings You To A 404 Page Not Found.

Not Sure To Include The 404 Page Or Inventory Item Page.....
404
Inventory?

Is there a way to see if an item is retired while it's in the gallery? I can't keep track lol All I see is the original rarity

@mythisea like on the gallery front (what the public sees) or whether or not its retired when you're "managing stock" (drag-and-dropping the order)? Or both?

@Ian I was thinking both ideally, but at least on the page where I'm managing the stock so I can make sure I only put my retired items in there.

Also wondering if there's a way to mass remove items?
And with removal, the box that pops up for the # is automaticallly blank, can it be automatically set to 1? (and funny enough, it lets me do the arrows down to negative numbers but of course gives me the error that it's not a whole number haha)

@ian What are your thoughts on including a 'security' feature for the 'Send to Donations' button? Like having to type out 'yes' or 'confirm' just because it's so close to the Gallery button. I was sweating bullets putting some of my retired items in my Gallery, and I do believe I would have a meltdown if I accidentally sent them to Donations.

I too really like the drag and drop option! However, I find it hard to organize because the pictures are so small and I'm having to scroll a lot and a tend to lose my place.

myriadium mentioned "if it was possible to incorporate the management page into a grid layout rather than a list? it might help in cutting down all the scrolling that has to be done as well." I agree that it would be much easier if it was already in a grid format (similar to how we sort creatures in our cove list).

Also I also quite like the gallery tabs idea that musical_slytherclaw brought up! I would like to be able to organize my gallery into different tabs/lists to show my different collections (like Easter travels, duck items, etc).

First thought: I'm a bit disappointed. I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but at the *very* least I was expecting to be able to have section/tabs/groups within Galleries, not to have everything listed together on one page. I guess I'll try to explain my personal intentions for a 'galleries' feature to explain why the current setup just isn't as exciting to me. I am obsessed with travels, and generally have 20-ish 'favorite' travels at any given time. I want to be able to display those in my gallery. *But*, there are other things that would be nice to have in a gallery; I pictured a gallery of funny/silly looking drinks from the Bean Sack, there are some great ones out there! But I don't want the silly mugs in the same gallery as my beautiful travels. I was picturing being able to have separate 'galleries', through tabs or similar, to be able to display different things together. I think what I was picturing was more like the 'Item Collection' on a creature's page, where there is a drop-down with the different stores and you see a separate page(s) for items from each different store.

Other points: it would be nice to have a way to 'tag' or otherwise describe each item, just a little space where you could, for instance, go "What a silly face!" or "Beautiful colors!" or whatever. Basically just being able to express *why* you put that item in your gallery. Personally I think it'd fit nicely where the '1 in gallery' text currently is (doesn't seem as important to have the number there when it's not for buying anyways, but maybe that's just me).

(I typed all the above before looking at other user's thoughts, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my thoughts!)

edit: Just an observation, it seems odd to have Galleries listed under the 'Shop' drop-down in the main navigation. Galleries are very specifically *not* for shopping, that's kinda the whole point of having Galleries that aren't just in user's shops, so it doesn't really make sense to be listed with Trades/User Shops/etc.

So far so good. Nothing has shown up too wonky for me.

My current notes:
- I like the idea of the grid arrangement for sorting. If it comes down to "drag and drop" as it is, or an "insert number grid" like cove lists, I'd prefer the grid. Especially if the sorting grid was 4 across like the gallery is. It would make visualizing the overall final display easier.

- I also like the idea of tabs. I would be willing to sacrifice drag and drop sorting for this as well. Named tabs would be a bonus.

- I agree with heatherm19 on the navigation drop down placement. Maybe move it down a section with Donations and Tim's, or over under Explore with the SARC?

- I appreciate the "You have" hover box working on galleries.

- The directory ( https://eggcave.com/galleries ) is currently filled with "old" accounts that haven't been accessed in years when on the "Largest Gallery Size" list. Is there a way to filter empty galleries out of that list? Or are they only there as a filler for beta?

- Would it be possible to name our Galleries? And have that name show on the directory and/or our profiles? Just a short, catchy title to draw someone into looking. I understand a character limit would be needed, and the Gallery text box is already in place for longer descriptions.

- I also want to check if galleries are excluded from the questing algorithm. It's not something that can be tested under the current format.

I wholeheartedly agree with the suggestion for tabs and a grid system for arranging items!
As of right now, there's a bit of a glitch for me when sorting items on this page https://eggcave.com/galleries/items. It's a little hard to put into words but if I click and drag an item from the bottom of the list up to the top or vice versa, when my mouse reaches a certain point on the page as it's going down/up, it won't let me stop unless I release the item. Versus on other pages, you can hold an item and go all the way to the top of the page and still be able to come all the way back down the page while still holding the item. Hope that makes sense. Not the worst thing ever but definitely an inconvenience, because I have to find the item in the list again.

Hello 👋🏻🤗
I do love the idea for tabs, grid system and mass remove items.
Is it possible to make it so we could move items from our Strongroom directly to our gallery and vice versa?

When I moved items back to my inventory the message I got was: "Item(s) moved from your shop to your Inventory."
I'm currently on my cel and I can't move the items with the drag function.

Just adding a small point of feedback, I think it might be nice to have the *option* to display multiple of the same item next to each other, rather than stacked.

For example in my gallery, I have 10 creepy zombies. Instead of seeing 10 separate creepy zombies, it's just 1 stack of 10.

So I think it would be better to be able to distribute those 10 items as stacks. So ten stacks of 1, two stacks of 5, one stack of 10, or anything in between.

Hope that makes sense! 😊

@isis I've taken screenshots of my inventory before when I had a lot of the same item, some really do look beautiful with multiple right next to each other. Especially in terms of travels, I can already imagine how amazing it would look to have them spread out like that in a gallery.

When you are making a gallery description and you type < , anything that directly follows < disappears completely from the gallery front. I couldn't find anything in the eCode about this so I think it's a bug??

Edit: this is exactly what shop descriptions do also, I'm just wrong about this being bugged it seems lol

I agree with @/isis! Instead of everything grouped up in one stack/displaying a number, I would actually prefer every individual item displayed! So for hoarders, I think it would really show off how many copies of that item they have 😃

I also agree with others in that Galleries should be moved to the explore page rather than the shops page.

When moving items back from gallery to inventory, as long as you enter a number, it displays the success message "Item(s) moved from your shop to your Inventory. " It says this even if you enter 0 or a number higher than the number of the items you CAN move back. If you enter zero, it doesn't move anything back but still says it, if you enter a number higher than the number of same items you have in your gallery, it just moves all the ones you have in there back and says it. Would be nice to have a little more validation/different result messages on that input 😸

Also, if you only have one copy of the item in your gallery, it still opens the "how many do you want to move back" input rather than just moving it (or a simple confirmation), which I think would be better 😊

Agree that galleries should be on explore page.

"Group by shop it restocks from" sorting option doesn't work with retired/event items - image here https://cloudphoto.ro/CghpB4SSPxQoRMj (password is "gallery", I didn't know if I should be keeping this under wraps haha)

Other than that, loving it so far, dragging mechanism is nice and would be wonderful for things like cove lists too

I'd like an option to toggle whether or not you want the rarity to show up under the item. I find that it takes up a bit much space/attention due to the size and bright colors. I get wanting to show off the rarity of items, that's fine and should stay there. But an option to toggle it on/off so you can optionally disable that text on display, would be great I think

I was thinking of commenting the same thing as @/romanjr370. Would love an option to move stuff directly from the strongroom to the gallery, but I understand if that's not an option.

Also fully support the toggle for showing rarity of items!

Also support having duplicate items displayed individually next to each other instead of stacked.

Ohh definitely agree on a toggle to show/hide rarity. Especially the purple all-caps "r99 (VIRTUALLY UNOBTAINABLE)" is needlessly in your face and just doesn't really make the page look nice.

I agree with isis That that'd be nice! The rarity's have different colors, and if you want a color-coded gallery, it kinda throws it off. :/

Being able to have duplicates separate (or at least the option to stack or not) would be awesome so you can create a pattern & the grid to arrange would be amazing.

Thanks for the initial feedback! I'm combing through the latest batch of messages posted here.

The gallery profile tile icon has been added to profiles. So you can now navigate to others' galleries from there.

Replies to your requests + feedback soon! 😊

Maybe it's just me, but I've reset the order of items in my gallery the last two days, and both times I've logged on the next morning to find the items out of order again. Like it's resetting at midnight where things go. I've had the travels at the top and they've moved around.

Latest Change Log

• For security and to prevent wrong clicks, typing "donate" is now required when mass donating from your Inventory
• Added a gallery tile icon to user profiles
• Added better input validation for quantities when removing items from galleries
• Updated the way rarities display on gallery fronts so that they aren't so prominent (but still displays next to the item name in gray)
• The text "(retired)" appears after the rarity on gallery fronts, if the item is retired
• The text "(retired)" appears after the rarity on gallery stock management, if the item is retired

Questions Answered

@minnie298a Gallery items are excluded from the questing algorithm.

Commenting On: Drag And Drop

I initially designed gallery items as a drag-and-drop grid with 4 or 5 items in a row. But what I found was that it was actually HARDER to move gallery items FARTHER up and down your list on a row-based grid.

If you run out of screen space in your browser, temporarily "drop" your item and then scroll up/down and then continue dragging in another movement. This is kind of the finicky nature of drag and drop, in my opinion. You sometimes can't move items in a single drag-and-drop action, depending on how far you're moving the item.

Most Popular Suggestions So Far

• Some sort of tab/grouping option, sort of like Cove Lists (but better)
• The "Galleries" link is really forcing us to rethink how the entire top navigation drop downs are organized
• The ability to name your gallery
• Ability to directly move from Strongroom to Gallery, instead of having to always "pass through" your Inventory
• And others...

Stay tuned for more updates!
