Announcing A Trial Run Of Cash Shop Rereleases

October 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM

A Letter To Our Community

For a while now, it has been well-known in the Egg Cave community that many of the site's oldest creatures are virtually unobtainable due to their low supply and consequently unaffordable prices. Many of the site's oldest creatures are often the rarest and they're locked away on accounts that are now inactive or, if the account is still active, will never be traded or auctioned.

When we originally introduced the concept of "Cash Shop Monthlies" years ago, it was shortsighted of us to promise to retire these creatures forever. By promising to retire these creatures forever, Egg Cave is at risk of becoming more of a museum of shiny, unobtainable creatures rather than a living, breathing site that's fun and based on working hard for the creatures you love and want to collect.

The idea of rereleasing creatures has been frequently discussed over the last several years. In years past, it has been met with opposition due to fears that rereleasing creatures would lead to an inevitable collapse in values. While it is a basic economic principle that increased supply will slow the rate of an increase in value or cause it to drop, we do not believe that rereleases have to happen in a way that cause values to collapse. In fact, values cannot "collapse" when there was always a price floor of 500 CC to begin with. With rereleases, the floor will be even higher.

In recent months, players have begun discussing the idea of rereleases again but with more positivity and viewing the idea more favorably. We've been pleased to see this and want to engage with the community. That's why today we're announcing a 6-month trial run for rereleasing creatures on Egg Cave. Worried or wonder what "trial run" means? Please continue reading, as these rereleases will be governed by a lot of strict rules.

Increase Supply But Protect Values

Our main goal of rereleasing Cash Shop creatures is to increase their supply but implement strict rules that Team Egg Cave adheres to protect their values. Here's the rundown of what we're proposing and how rereleases would work:

  • Protect value: Rereleased species have a beginning price at 1000 CC or higher depending on their Population Rank (a creature that's lower on the Population Rank sells for higher). They are never less than 1000 CC.
  • Protect value: Cap on the number rereleased. A species population can only be doubled at most. For example, if there are 50 living creatures of a species that's going to be rereleased, a maximum of 100 could be rereleased and no more. Team Egg Cave may choose to set this lower to protect values. Once the limit is reached, the creature is "sold out" in the Cash Shop.
  • Protect value: A species cannot be rereleased two years in a row
  • Rereleases occur on a monthly timetable, just like monthlies
  • Only 2-3 species can be rereleased per month
  • A species can only be rereleased in and during the month that it was originally available (a November monthly could only ever be rereleased in the month of November, maintaining the concept of a monthly)
  • Species selected for rereleases will be announced at least one month in advance

We are proposing a 6-month trial run for these rereleases from November 2020 to April 2021. During April 2021, we will gather feedback and vote as a community if you would like to see rereleases continue (as is or with changes) or be stopped altogether. If we do not have greater than 50% support from the community for creature rereleases, they will be terminated and halted.

I can not get cash cave at all so I am sad I love the the creatures but I can not get it I have no money

pwuffy • 24 Oct 2020, 11:04 AM

--to make sure you get in on, why not work your way up to trading for 1000CC? then you can buy it yourself while still being free to play. 😊 there are a lot of options but at the end of the day, trading will be more lively (i hope) and more fun!

pooh • 24 Oct 2020, 11:36 AM

Aahhh... 1000CC is 10 000 000EC... I spend MONTHS to earn this amount... But okay, I like this idea. I hope, some of the non-CS creatures will be re-released too. There's some really pretty 😊

ethereality • 24 Oct 2020, 11:45 AM

Also everyone has to remember that 1000 CC is honestly not difficult at all to EARN FOR FREE if you put your mind to it. It's slightly harder than it used to be with cave limited editions not being a thing anymore...but by no means "hard"

ethereality • 24 Oct 2020, 11:46 AM

There are several main entrance points into the CC world for newbies: 1) the annual 500 CC giveaway. Use it to buy a CSP creature and wait a few months and trade it for like 700 CC. You're 70% of the way there already.

ethereality • 24 Oct 2020, 11:47 AM

2) Easter Egg hunt reward egg: usually sells for 300-500 CC. Sell it. Buy a CSP. Wait a few months, sell it for 700 CC.

ethereality • 24 Oct 2020, 11:49 AM

3) Special events like the VEND machine, Tine rerelease, where you can instantly get creatures 3000CC+ in value. A bit more based on timing/luck, but if you wait until the right time, you could earn alot of free CC. That's 3 free rereleased creatures!

ethereality • 24 Oct 2020, 11:51 AM

Trading up really isn't that hard. I've been doing it for years. 1000 CC is very very doable if you put your mind to it. Wanting them to be given out like water is in my opinion because you want easy gratification and don't care about all the time older users have spent on this

osean • 24 Oct 2020, 11:53 AM

@sinthr I also am one of the ones that like to concentrate on the positives. I agree with all the points you have made. Overall, I think this could be a good thing in raising numbers of old breeds. The originals will still keep their values while we have a change at old creature

ethereality • 24 Oct 2020, 11:54 AM

Eggcave isn't meant to be a fast paced game and never was. It's always been an intimate community that you come to chat, slowly collect and achieve your dreamies, and get to see the cute new releases every month!

osean • 24 Oct 2020, 11:55 AM

Oh and To all those players needing CC, I often sell it in my shop at cost for ec

ethereality • 24 Oct 2020, 11:58 AM

Random, but of the releases I'm most excited for, I'd definitely have to say Kringus. Such an adorable walrus. One of my favorite December monthlies, the others being Laniwon and Elkikorn, who I hope make it onto the rerelease schedule if it does work out for next year.

ethereality • 24 Oct 2020, 11:59 AM

Not sure which adorable squirrel I'll buy, I've had both at one point, and traded both away for dreamies.

pwuffy • 24 Oct 2020, 12:13 PM

@ethereality i hope elkikorn makes it too XD i think i am gonna go for bellato, its so cute and i'd love to have one frozen in the first stage *_*

ethereality • 24 Oct 2020, 12:21 PM

@pwuffy Yeah, right! The Elkikorn is just majestic ❀️ Honestly bellato is cute but my heart just cant handle SLEEPING BABY SQUINTON xOx

raccoon • 24 Oct 2020, 1:07 PM

Just going to point out a flaw in a lot of the economy discussions. More eggs for more people makes those people happy, which is good, BUT at the same time... it would punish older players for having spent money on the site. Potentially driving them to quit. Long time players-c-

raccoon • 24 Oct 2020, 1:07 PM

have supported this game for so long and it wouldn't be fair at all to them who spent 500cc (if purchased on release) or even higher amounts of cc only for the creature to go on sale again at 100cc. I think 1000cc is a fair starting point, and I wouldn't be against 1500cc either

raccoon • 24 Oct 2020, 1:09 PM

If the eggcave team upsets the long time players enough to the point where they leave, the site will be on a steep hill to being dead. This is a compromise situation, and it's also a TRIAL. Demanding lower prices when it hasn't even begun is kind of silly in my opinion.

isathebelle • 24 Oct 2020, 1:28 PM

@raccoon really upset them,it alredy upset me just thinking about it.It's not fair cos that long time players making profits on others, just like they' ll make a profit from this!

raccoon • 24 Oct 2020, 1:41 PM

@isathebelle Profit is part of the game. Though I do heavily support cooldowns and or limits with the trial re-releases to prevent hoarding for profit. I also think it's fair. That's how economies work. If everything was free or cheap, there wouldn't be any reason to play.

sonny • 24 Oct 2020, 2:41 PM

i really think this is an awesome idea. i think everyone deserves to get a chance at buying old creatures! not to mention this is a great way for the site to get some more money. i dont mind spending $10 on a creature i RLLY want!! thanks so much for doing this, im excited!!!

fakeworld • 24 Oct 2020, 4:32 PM

I wholeheartedly support this idea 10/10. A while ago I gave all my creatures away when I left the site, but when I decided to return I was faced with the reality of how hard it was to obtain old creatures.

decay • 24 Oct 2020, 6:47 PM

This is an amazing thing to hear about (: As an "older player" I completely support this

han • 24 Oct 2020, 7:05 PM

ooh this is very exciting as a returning older player! personally some creatures i'd LOVE to see are the avem, biwo, encalop, gadfly, luvlei, nym, onabi, paroxy, seiren, and solis 😱

han • 24 Oct 2020, 7:05 PM

i like the user cap idea being proposed by others -- maybe the cap could be the # of stages each creature has (to accommodate people who want to collect stages)?? not sure how possible that would be logistically

fakeworld • 24 Oct 2020, 8:39 PM

I also think the price point is extremely reasonable. For those who think it's too expensive, try to look at it from a different perspective.. It would be way cheaper buying older creatures through a rerelease for 1000CC versus paying maybe 10kCC to obtain them from another user.

disney • 24 Oct 2020, 10:12 PM

I'm very concerned about having to possibly compete to purchase as there is a limit and I do not get to come online often :/ But hopefully all will work out! I already see plenty I will want to buy... 😊

novrain62 • 24 Oct 2020, 10:34 PM

an ONNY for me and I'll be happy ❀️

sprite • 24 Oct 2020, 10:44 PM

I am very happy seeing this. Have long supported re-releasing. As a long time player it's needed. People are actually complaining about the price?? Is this for real. So you rather pay the ongoing rate vs 1000 CC? continue...

sprite • 24 Oct 2020, 10:45 PM

So when you go shopping and something is for sale do you insist on paying full price...of course not lol I really don't understand the logic of complaining about paying cheaper. I'm all for saving when I can.

sprite • 24 Oct 2020, 10:46 PM

I say bring em all let the re-releases rain πŸ˜ƒ

whitefall • 24 Oct 2020, 11:53 PM

Will we still have new monthlies along with the rereleased creatures?

saturna • 24 Oct 2020, 11:54 PM

Yes! Happy to see this idea finally gain some traction while incorporating fairness for everyone!

brad • 24 Oct 2020, 11:55 PM

Hmmm

whitefall • 24 Oct 2020, 11:57 PM

@sprite Exactly! Even if people can’t purchase a rerelease that month, they can trade for it later for a price that’s lower than what it’s going for now

whitefall • 24 Oct 2020, 11:57 PM

Big support for this idea ❀️

whitefall • 25 Oct 2020, 12:01 AM

I’m getting all nostalgic now. I remember when some of these creatures were originally released 😸 Good ol days

bellacyg • 25 Oct 2020, 12:09 AM

@sprite No idea what the going rate is, I see something and if I can afford it, then I buy, if not, no biggie. Why not sell the re-releases for 500cc each, their original price? The old players paid that price, right, so why would it be unfair to them? 1000cc is cheaper?

emo_pattys • 25 Oct 2020, 12:22 AM

Yes! The best news so far! I would love to see Zinzall, Guinstar, Hallowolf, Yuki, Vampyr ❀️. Also concerned about having to possibly compete to purchase.

sybil_howlett • 25 Oct 2020, 1:08 AM

I would love to see a Fourbon in future 2021 re-releases πŸ˜ƒ

ethereality • 25 Oct 2020, 1:09 AM

As I've mentioned before also support the rerelease of Yuki, just to be the third comment in a row saying that πŸ˜‰ Some other ones I also support that have been mentioned: Onny, Guinstar, Anaria

ethereality • 25 Oct 2020, 1:12 AM

@disney Honestly, I'm scared for the first month to be a total disaster and all 100 go to a very select sniping batch of users, so I'm probably going to have to trade my way to get baby squinton >.<

muppet • 25 Oct 2020, 2:11 AM

@Ian & ECTeam This is a fantastic idea!!! Fully support!!! I do think account purchases should be 2 of each re-release though. And only main accounts, no sides. Maybe make it a triple creature amount instead of double so it takes longer to be sold out?

Orderedchaos • 25 Oct 2020, 3:08 AM

As stated before, we need to see if hoarding/sniping is even going to be a problem before we start putting on limits. We are going to be watching sales very carefully and if we see a problem then we will put on limits.

Orderedchaos • 25 Oct 2020, 3:10 AM

@whitefall We'll still have new monthlies. Those aren't going away. 😊

isathebelle • 25 Oct 2020, 3:25 AM

@bellacyg I totally agree with you why that would be unfair to them if they paid 500 CC????????????

dragiigy • 25 Oct 2020, 3:48 AM

@bellacyg and one vote from me for you too !!

isathebelle • 25 Oct 2020, 3:51 AM

@sprite Truly I can't afford paying 1000 cc that's too much, I suggest 500 cc cos that would be a fair price, isn't that price that everybody paid anyway??

magenta • 25 Oct 2020, 3:57 AM

@isathebelle no it isnt, simply put not everyone who owns a bellato for example paid 500cc for them, some paid budgie's guide price etc. (5-6kcc), 1000cc is already a huge compromise considering the price its currently at now

magenta • 25 Oct 2020, 3:57 AM

- good luck trying to find someone selling an old csp for 1000cc, let alone 500cc
