Announcing A Trial Run Of Cash Shop Rereleases

October 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM

A Letter To Our Community

For a while now, it has been well-known in the Egg Cave community that many of the site's oldest creatures are virtually unobtainable due to their low supply and consequently unaffordable prices. Many of the site's oldest creatures are often the rarest and they're locked away on accounts that are now inactive or, if the account is still active, will never be traded or auctioned.

When we originally introduced the concept of "Cash Shop Monthlies" years ago, it was shortsighted of us to promise to retire these creatures forever. By promising to retire these creatures forever, Egg Cave is at risk of becoming more of a museum of shiny, unobtainable creatures rather than a living, breathing site that's fun and based on working hard for the creatures you love and want to collect.

The idea of rereleasing creatures has been frequently discussed over the last several years. In years past, it has been met with opposition due to fears that rereleasing creatures would lead to an inevitable collapse in values. While it is a basic economic principle that increased supply will slow the rate of an increase in value or cause it to drop, we do not believe that rereleases have to happen in a way that cause values to collapse. In fact, values cannot "collapse" when there was always a price floor of 500 CC to begin with. With rereleases, the floor will be even higher.

In recent months, players have begun discussing the idea of rereleases again but with more positivity and viewing the idea more favorably. We've been pleased to see this and want to engage with the community. That's why today we're announcing a 6-month trial run for rereleasing creatures on Egg Cave. Worried or wonder what "trial run" means? Please continue reading, as these rereleases will be governed by a lot of strict rules.

Increase Supply But Protect Values

Our main goal of rereleasing Cash Shop creatures is to increase their supply but implement strict rules that Team Egg Cave adheres to protect their values. Here's the rundown of what we're proposing and how rereleases would work:

  • Protect value: Rereleased species have a beginning price at 1000 CC or higher depending on their Population Rank (a creature that's lower on the Population Rank sells for higher). They are never less than 1000 CC.
  • Protect value: Cap on the number rereleased. A species population can only be doubled at most. For example, if there are 50 living creatures of a species that's going to be rereleased, a maximum of 100 could be rereleased and no more. Team Egg Cave may choose to set this lower to protect values. Once the limit is reached, the creature is "sold out" in the Cash Shop.
  • Protect value: A species cannot be rereleased two years in a row
  • Rereleases occur on a monthly timetable, just like monthlies
  • Only 2-3 species can be rereleased per month
  • A species can only be rereleased in and during the month that it was originally available (a November monthly could only ever be rereleased in the month of November, maintaining the concept of a monthly)
  • Species selected for rereleases will be announced at least one month in advance

We are proposing a 6-month trial run for these rereleases from November 2020 to April 2021. During April 2021, we will gather feedback and vote as a community if you would like to see rereleases continue (as is or with changes) or be stopped altogether. If we do not have greater than 50% support from the community for creature rereleases, they will be terminated and halted.

@bellacyg Never said any thing about $5. I was talking about those complaining about spending $10 vs the ongoing values of the creatures being re-released. Which are a lot more and I have a clear understanding of them. Of course I would be happy with $5 but $10 is good.

isathebelle • 25 Oct 2020, 4:01 AM

@magenta yeah but some paid that amount and all the rest paid about 90 % of them paid 500 cc for it !!

magenta • 25 Oct 2020, 4:01 AM

@sprite i 100% agree, right now 1000cc is already a really good deal considering how much they actually go for in the market today - 5-6k cc or above which is $50, idk about others but I'd rather spend $10 than spend $50< 😋 seems more than fair

sprite • 25 Oct 2020, 4:02 AM

Have already stated my views 2 times to help give feedback, It's becoming redundant. So will not reply any more. If you can afford it good if not then try and trade when they do. Not my problem.

magenta • 25 Oct 2020, 4:02 AM

@isathebelle and how would you know that? 😋 I'd say many paid alot for creatures, someone paid 100k cc for an ignis before and someone else paid 80k cc for an onny thats $1000 and $800, I'd rather pay $10 than $1000 anyday

magenta • 25 Oct 2020, 4:04 AM

@isathebelle plus you're missing a key component here, you don't even have to pay for these re-releases you can trade ec for cc or creatures for these re-releases 😋 ive stated my piece so do with it what you will

isathebelle • 25 Oct 2020, 4:11 AM

@magenta I hardly can afford 500 cc if I sell the whole bunch of creature I have....So I guess this site have a really rich players...so you can't understands me, enjoy in future trading!

magenta • 25 Oct 2020, 4:13 AM

@isathebelle thats not true at all, looking at your cove you have tons of critters worth 200cc and up, if you sold them all its at the very least 5k cc xD its just if you're willing to part with them but good luck at trading as well

isathebelle • 25 Oct 2020, 4:22 AM

@magenta nobody want to paid even 100k ec for them .I really try to sell , sometimes auction if the players are willing and that's all.

magenta • 25 Oct 2020, 4:25 AM

@isathebelle if you need help just pm me! i might be willing to buy stuff off you depending on what it is 😊

isathebelle • 25 Oct 2020, 4:31 AM

@magenta really ?? I will do that, thank you 😊

sprite • 25 Oct 2020, 4:39 AM

While I paid $5 for some but others not so much ugh not going to talk about names haha Was not very active for awhile when first started. Have had bouts of inactivity. Trading is boring. I get no thrill from it any more. This tho, very excited, probably too much lol

rypnami • 25 Oct 2020, 4:40 AM

Me coming down to the comments happy about a re-release and seeing a bunch of people fighting: 0-0

sprite • 25 Oct 2020, 4:47 AM

@rypnami Eh, it's nothing new lol

bellacyg • 25 Oct 2020, 5:05 AM

I wld'nt mind payin $10 to buy a critter either if only one. I read the comments here and y'all willing to pay $10 instd of paying someone $100 in trade. How many critters re-released? We talkin' $10 EACH CRITTER & it's US dollars. Know how much that is in Indonesia? Why not $5?

ethereality • 25 Oct 2020, 8:23 AM

@bellacyg Not everybody is supposed to be able to afford all 3 every month, obviously. I know I certainly won't. Pick your favorite every month. Or every few months. You have to compromise sometimes so that things are fair.

ethereality • 25 Oct 2020, 8:25 AM

If everybody was able to get all 3 every month at 500 CC, they'd become as common as regular CSPs, which would totally crash the values. And I know some users think it's unfair that they can't collect every single old CSP, but that's not the purpose of rereleased imo

ethereality • 25 Oct 2020, 8:28 AM

Rereleases are to reintroduce old, "extinct" creatures into the trading pool for realistic prices, say $10-20 instead of $100. Because that is how much most of these creatures are going for now in pure CC. $100. Even if you miss it, can't afford it yet, it'll be cheaper to trade.

ethereality • 25 Oct 2020, 8:30 AM

Putting them at 1000 CC instead of 500 means that there will be *roughly* half as much creatures sold as if it was at 500. Meaning that they will still retain a rarity to a certain degree, and some of their prestige.

roehemo • 25 Oct 2020, 10:39 AM

I would like to vote for reruns of primarily Aliamble, Anaria, Biwo, Carnivorse, Iccilah, Kirin, Wisoki, Orciel, and Rayun, and to a lesser degree Catsmos, Cloverli, Corphex, Felindle, Flofbite, Greem, and Rotehar.

roehemo • 25 Oct 2020, 10:39 AM

I would also like to put my support behind rereleasing some of the old Cave creatures back into the cave like Fairtop, Horsca, and Nulli. Finally I would like to request the rerelease of Event creatures like Eartha, Foo, Valequine, Pachuma, and Alleniwer.

spectaclenest • 25 Oct 2020, 10:44 AM

@ian i think important to say that i really think the quest system is great and i hope creatures continue to be rereleased that way as well!

nut • 25 Oct 2020, 10:46 AM

reading these comments, I have to say no one is forcing anyone to pay any amount. it’s not like everyone buys the new 500cc monthlies every month, so if you don’t agree with the price point you can not buy it and trade for it later if you want it. if anything this makes trading-

nut • 25 Oct 2020, 10:47 AM

-for them WAY easier than it would have been before - seeing as the point is to make the value a little more accessible and increase the amount in circulation. no one is asking anyone to shell out 1000cc regularly. anyway I would love if the pixgog came back!

hinokazes • 25 Oct 2020, 1:03 PM

Some players are fighting here over the price, and then there's me still waiting to be able to use the KEYBOARD to massclick, because I'm sorry but clicking on this website with a mouse or even a stylus is PAINFUL. That's why I don't bother for cc pets, I can't trade ec for cc.

idol • 25 Oct 2020, 1:59 PM

I think this is an EXCELLENT Idea. The fact that the price shocked me at first is a GOOD thing. It means the creatures really do still keep their value and make it feel more earned if you get it yourself or trade for it. Excellent job you guys. Seriously.

idol • 25 Oct 2020, 2:01 PM

My only issue was if players didn't have a limit of how many they were able to buy because then people could hoard them and still run the market but I saw that was answered. Though it might be difficult to gage someone hoarding or genuinely collecting?

lexicon • 25 Oct 2020, 2:10 PM

Now that I've had some time to look, my full suggestions are Jan: Biwo, Ahjoon; Feb: Crystar, Yuki, Corphex; Mar: Ranfil, Clocat; Apr: Greem, Rie. I tried picking creatures that are not traded often, if ever, to hopefully put some into circulation again 😊❤️

caylith • 25 Oct 2020, 2:54 PM

Still relatively newer player here (what's my 3 years compared to 10 of others😊) YES! THANK YOU @Ian! THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS ASKING FOR, FOR MANY, MANY TIMES! The chance for us to obtain old CSPs somehow.

caylith • 25 Oct 2020, 3:12 PM

After putting some limits(creature per account, and releasing them in other than US only time zones... some of us are from Europe😃) its gonna be perfect;) Thanks again for hearing us!

distorted • 25 Oct 2020, 3:52 PM

So I leave eggcave for about a week and re-releases are happening! YEEEEEEEE- So excited!

bun • 25 Oct 2020, 4:48 PM

Yayyy, so excited for this! Glad to see that newer players will hopefully be able to have a better chance at getting older creatures. c: I'd love to see a rerelease of the Ahjoon, Flar, Corphex, Rie, Ranfil, and Abrillion.

disney • 25 Oct 2020, 10:13 PM

@ethereality - I expect the same thing and it sucks :/

thedarkarcher • 26 Oct 2020, 7:30 AM

I would love to see the vampyr and gobbler brought back at some point maybe.

hippy • 26 Oct 2020, 9:08 AM

Squinton? Ok, me happy.

hipsterism • 26 Oct 2020, 9:21 AM

Truthfully, it's been years now. All the old players I've known have gone off to new adventures and only know a handful of people from back then still on. It's definitely time to re-release to let others join in on the fun.

idol • 26 Oct 2020, 11:07 AM

Also @Ian I suggest the Clous for Jan. I think it was in a batch of the some of the first cash shop pets released if I remember correctly? So seeing at least one pet from the original set would be nice. Clous, Arnmnae or Pixgog would be amazing ^^

noxus • 26 Oct 2020, 11:57 AM

That's an excellent idea! ❤️ I hope this will work out so maybe we can have an encalop next october *o*

sandara • 26 Oct 2020, 12:52 PM

Just when I go on Hiatus there is such a big news? But I am not gonna lie, I loved it❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ian • 26 Oct 2020, 4:26 PM

@yogurt @pouncessoftly RE 1000 CC for mid-month creatures: answer: no, mid-month creatures will stay at 200 CC. 1000 CC is only for rereleases minimum.

Ian • 26 Oct 2020, 4:26 PM

@whitefall: yes, there will still be brand-new creatures every month just as there has always been alongside rereleases.

mairbear • 26 Oct 2020, 7:30 PM

Wow!! Great to run a trial and then do feedback. It seems like the team has put considerable thought into this and I'm excited to see how it unfolds. I might purchase an extra of the ones I like but I'll be holding out for my WL xD +1 Vote for Frion (Mar) and Sheap (Apr) 😊

whitefire • 26 Oct 2020, 8:10 PM

Dang, it's crazy to think that creatures that came out when I first joined (and thus weren't "worth" much) are now so rare they're having to be rereleased.

Ian • 26 Oct 2020, 8:47 PM

@whitefire time does a lot of things, doesn’t it?

Ian • 26 Oct 2020, 8:48 PM

Hearing lots of love for the Clous! We are listening.

whitefire • 26 Oct 2020, 8:53 PM

Sure does! I'm just happy that no matter how much time passes between my visits, the site is still here and growing.

idol • 26 Oct 2020, 9:14 PM

@Ian Thank you so much for listening and hearing all of us. 😊 @Whitefire Was just about to say something similar myself. 😉

brookie • 26 Oct 2020, 9:53 PM

I would love to see a re-release of the Ahjoon, Pixgog, Crystar, and Koalyptus!

crowvict • 27 Oct 2020, 4:12 AM

As an old player who's been around since 2010, I support this wholeheartedly and hope it's a success! My main concern is there not being a limit. At least limit it to one per species per player the first 24 hours of rerelease.

senkou • 27 Oct 2020, 5:42 AM

would DIE (of happiness XD) if the popular 3 were released: Onny, Macbot, Doovoo T^T ❤️
