The new page template and design that we've been trialing over at the Cave has now been applied to the Cave, Notifications, and now the Site Blog page. Enjoy a brand-new look for our blog posts and your comments! And psst... clickable creature previews for your profile creatures are back!
Your comments at the Site Blog can now contain up to 280 characters. That's twice as much compared to 140 characters. We hope that this makes it easier to express your thoughts in a single post, without having to break up your content.
Other areas of the site, when redesigned with the new page layout, will begin adopting this 280 character limit (i.e. wall posts). But this will happen gradually, so stay tuned. Other areas of the site that aren't on the new page layout remain capped at 140 characters.

@333 doesn't if feel crazy?! Haha, you can actually type more than 3 sentences now and give a complete thought without restraint. More places will be upgraded with this ability soon. ❤️

@333 Hahaha! xD I think it's rather nice though. 😊 But the profile critters are rather small. Feels kind of unnecessary? It's not like they're very big to begin with and if we suddenly are allowed longer messages - why tiny profile pics? 😋

I like the last travel. Object travels usually don't appeal to me but these aren't bad looking. Just putting on a critter it looks weird o3o

I don't know how I feel about the profile critter viewing being new. I kinda liked the full one where the name showed. Plus this is real small o-o

I agree with @immortalraven. 😱 About the preview being so small. D: I don't have a problem with there being no name (though it was nice), but the really are very Smol.

Again, I like it! We did follow twitter with the character increase, haha. Nice! How possible would it be to add a popup when you hover over "X hours ago" to show the posts exact time? Like the same way when hovering over a mod's name. It would be nice over all parts of the site.
Was able to use all 280 characters! Muaha!

@brad YAY! 280 characters exactly. That's a great feeling. And yes, I'll look into making these timestamps feel a bit more "precise." Alternatively, after >7 days ago or something, I could just display the full date.

@Ian That would be perfect! For example, I was looking at old mails a little while back, trying to figure out when something happened and just was able to see "4 years ago" or whatever it was. Something more precise would be great.

@brad great suggestion. This is going to be gradually implemented around various areas of the site with the redesign. You'll notice when you venture now to older blog comments >14 days old that it displays the full, precise date of when it was posted. ❤️ LOVE IT!

@brad you're welcome. Thanks for the suggestion. Date/time formats around Egg Cave have been a little weird since version 3 and "4 years ago" just isn't helpful for content that's that old.

@immortalraven I really liked the full creature view and name, I don't like the circular view at all in the blog comments ... It's fine in the header but quite the nagging revision ... hopefully temporary ☹️

Thank you for all the work you do here on egg cave and making it a funner experience for everyone! Now that I'm back again I find it a lot faster & easier to navigate while feeding than before! So cool we can type more now with the character limit!!!!! 😊 ❤️

This is probably already known, but on the new design. If you go to the explore tab, go to cave, it directs you to the "help" section...and not the cave. Just want to let someone know ^^ ...or maybe I'm going crazy lol

Still two cave problems. "You will need to expand it. Need more?" looks exactly like that and any error deletes my naming attempt so that I need to type it all again.

Also, the gobbler bar text is much smaller then before (too small), while the notification icons, whether #FFFFFF or #FADB58, get lost on the greens like #44674E. So, the header is hard to see for me. And I liked the health bar in *colour*, not text :/

Profile critters are still round and tiny. Like... Can't get my head around that choice. They're already avatar small in size in full view, for eggs' sake! xD

@silverserpent profile critters that located in posts will scale much, much better in mobile. That's the trade off. You can't have it all, unfortunately. ☹️

@silverserpent I prefer the sharpness and overall field of view with the box look, twitter did this too awhile ago, I don't use twitter, mainly for other reasons, but that was yet another "little thing" that added up. I wish we could customize to our specific comfort zones ☹️

@veritaspunk Couldn't agree with you more. I see no reason for not being able to make a website that works perfectly on both phones and bigger screens. There's not even a reason to look at them as the same platform. But I've said such things before. *shrug*

@silverserpent I guess we'll never see eggcave on a roku box anytime soon like twitch etc 😋, but a little more user customization isn't too extreme. Not seeing the name underneath is just a cold soulless feeling, looking like a disemboweled spirit.

@silverserpent I think it would be a fun feature if you'd hover over the creature and it would flip over to reveal it's name and maybe brief info you added. I'll just have to keep trying to view them as pogs, but even pogs had text on many of them.

@immortalraven It's loads almost instantly for me. @silverserpent I don't really care for the gobbler event ... I like the way the Halloween Fair & Chocotravaganza are formatted a lot better ... easier on the eyes overall too.

@immortalraven Mine has been a bit slow too, but your page just loaded for me and it didn't take 5 minutes. Took a while, sure, but you have many critters. Can't really tell if it was slower than usual. ^__^;

Excited to see the upcoming changes! I'm not sure if this is ever gonna be possible, but will we ever get to see our creatures in a larger size than the current 100x100? I know the artwork exists (loved seeing them in the Halloween constellations game)

Not for the whole site, but it would be cool to see a bigger image when you go on your creature's profile, for example. It would be cool to see all the small details that we might miss otherwise.
