"My assistant," Two gave 306494, when they were alone, by way of an explanation.
Not knowing how to respond, the mind-reader merely shrugged, then, on a spur of the moment, dared venture, "Three?"
Two's lips twitched, the faintest smile. "The Third Division is not so organized now, without a leader. The assistant, I believe, was, ah, not chosen for desk skills." He paused, a thought had occured to him. "306494. You're in Third, aren't you?"
The subordinate nodded hesitantly, wary of Two's interest. Yet encouraged by the other's response to his question, before his courage failed, tried, "Who will take over?"
Spike lit a cigarette (apparently oblivious to whatever his asisstant said) and stared out across the arena, the surroundings which 306494 had failed to take in earlier. Two was almost curious; the kid had barely said a word before, and certainly asked no questions. "I certainly hope not Col," he replied, amused. "If everyone moved up... Imagine Four having to work side by side with Five," he smirked for a minute, then it faded slowly, as his lingering gaze focused.
Looking in the same direction, 306494 saw he was watching a couple of females in lower on the stands. He wondered briefly, but asked nothing.

"Anyway; there IS a reason I brought you out here," she turned on him suddenly, face growing hard, serious, eyes narrowed in thought, the kind of cold calculation, without any feels or indulgence, pure practicality. "A method to my madness, as they say," a tiny flicker of her more crazy (?) side resurfaced for a second. "Anyway~, she shook her hair back. "I have a mission for you. A very important one... Crucial.. Critical.. Vital," she conjured words like one selected chocolates- first this, that that, pausing to bask in each glorious flavor, then saving the best til last... Her tone was ensnaring, persuasive, unresistable; even a the Plushies sat in rapt attention, hanging on to every syllable.
Col listened.

"So, I'll grant you full access to the Trials... You may take your pick from anyone... So long as they're the best we can spare. Take a new leader, too, preferably one good with deskwork and one which would benefit from the experience- if you could train them..."
If it had been someone else talking, who knows what Col's reaction should have been. A glower, protest, complaint, or perhaps entirely unresponsive. That this was ridiculous, pointless, hopeless, insane, suicidal, stupid? Annoyance, irritation, anger, indifference, despair? Or maybe... Most likely scenario, no matter this initial reaction, the result would have been the same. If not chosen, he would have volunteered, no, BEGGED, to go... For very different reasons. With the same goal. And very different endings.
He merely nodded along with everything she suggested.
"You'll leave as soon the Truce is over. I think the distraction will be good for you, too," she added as an aside.
Col nodded again. "Shoukd I go and begin preparing now?"
"Oh, and you'll need to work with Five a bit for this; it's his alley, anyway- and consult with Two- he's looking after Third; and Third's lieutenant. Assistant. Whatever they call them nowadays," she shrugged.
Again, he just nodded. "One last thing."
"Yes?"
"What should I call you?" he asked.
She considered. "Mm. You're right. I need a new name... I'll think on it."
"Because," he gave a small smile, "I already have one in mind... Goodbye... Kitty."

"And during a Leader's battle five years ago, some one EXPLODED! Their chunks were pouring from the ceiling!
....And that is why they don't serve duck stew in the Mess Hall anymore." Eight concluded gravely.
How it was possible for someone to talk, nonstop, for ten mintues straight and not run out of things to say would forever remain a great mystery to Annabell.
Annabell continued to stare at Eight, not really sure what to think. She didn't enjoy judging people right off the bat, but there was no dening the girl was definately crazy.
One of the most prominent clues were her eyes, which made Annabell involuntarily shutter every time she looked at them, which seemed to be a light pink, but were glossy and far away, as if she was looking at something only she could see while still holding a less-than-regular conversation with you.
Yep. Definitely creepy.
"Uhh, Miss-Leader-Eight?", Annabell quickly interrupted Eight as she was just about to go into a long speech about the healing properties of duck feathers in the Middle Ages, "I kinda need to go now..."
Annabell stood up, excusing herself and was trying to mentally map out the best way to run away when Eight tugged at her sleeve, turning her back around.
"What are you planning on doing now, Annabell?" Eight's pink eyes blinked innocently enough, but they seemed to hold Annabell in a deadlock, turning her blood into ice.

(Creepy Eight is Creepy ._. )

@Taffy789 *Eyes widen* A leader exploded? O_O Chunks?! Gruesome! ... Wait >.> ... I don't- T_T
DDDDD:

Spike's eyes narrowed in irritation. "I want to know what they're SAYING- No, you're right, I don't," he sighed, exhaling a small cloud of smoke, which slowly ascended upwards to the heavens. He watched it until it dissipated, then turned to 306494; actually turned and LOOKED at 306494, properly; although the cold, calculating look used gave the subject the impression he had upgraded from a mere number to something akin to some bovine... 306494 wondered if he regarded anyone at all as human.
"Can you fight?" The question was shot at him out of the blue. He blinked; Two couldn't know, of course. He hadn't left the base before, nor visited the training rooms; even though that was normally compulsory.
"I don't know," he answered honestly.
Now there was a strange sparkle in the other's otherwise dead eyes. Truthfully, it gave 306494 the chills. He couldn't help but wonder what he was getting himself in to.
"...But first," those dark eyes lit up for a moment, not fire, but glowing golden coals, as he flashed a glance back down the stands. His left hand, still holding the smoldering cigarette, dropped down to his side, forgotten, as he strode purposely out of the box, clearly intending his puppy- or bovine- to follow him. Down the stands towards the couple of girls.

"Okay," Annabell finally managed to choke out after a few more seconds ticked by, "I'm not really planning on doing ANYTHING. Can I go?"
She slowly felt Eight's grip on her sleeve slacken, as the Leader spoke again.
"...You know, I used to be in charge of greeting and assigning newbies to Squads, a while back."
'Oh crud, not another story.' Annabell sighed mentally, wondering if Two was truly the torturer at this base.
"And I...actually enjoyed the job." Eight continued, looking at the ground, as if to hide a small smile. "It was boring, but I liked it. The people...Most of were fearing for their lives, but some were kinda...hopeful...It was just such a nice break from everything."
There was no mistaking Eight's smile now, and Annabell couldn't help but notice she seemed bait more...grounded?
"It was also sad though...It never lasted...Those who were once warm became cold...Or else they died out." Annabell could now tell Eight was saddened, but was surprised when the Leader suddenly looked back up at her again.
"Which are you planning to choose? Sucide or death?"
Annabell froze up again, not completely sure about what meant what at the moment.
"I-"
"Oh, look, Spikey's coming over here!" Eight suddenly clapped, scaring Annabell so bad she literally fell over in shock.
"Gasp! I wonder if he will let me record Six being mauled by an underdog! That'll be awesome! Oh Spikey~" Eight waved euthanstically.

(Yay for weird character devolpment! 😃 )

"Back to scaring the children, Eight?" Indifference was both his cloak, shield and weapon when it came to the captivating purple-haired (currently) leader. As soon as she'd looked his way, his eyes had locked on to hers and melted. However, he outwardly retained every appearance of impassivity, and internally, most of his wits. He wasn't exactly USED to the effects- how could one be? but he was prepared, expecting them.
He took no notice of Annabell as he ploughed forward,, wanting to get it over with. Two gestured 306494 forward, then said to Eight; "You seem energetic. How about putting it to some use?" he offered dispationately.
306494's stomach flipped; Eight?! This was serious.

"Psh, scaring the kiddies is only for Halloween!", Eight chirped happily, "Speaking of which, can I dress up with a real chainsaw and chase people around on-" She paused as she saw 306494.
"Oh my gee, who is this?!" Eight squealed in delight, jumping up to examine the new person. She walked around him quietly, as if she was checking for dents in a car, before she turned back to Two.
"So, what's wrong with him? Is he that spy who needs torturing? A bad apple that needs to be punished? A guy with terrible secrets that need unlocking?" Eight giggled happily, grabbing both of 306494's arms, shaking them wildly up and down in an "excited girl" fashion.
"We're going to have some much fun!"

Two rolled his eyes as 306494 shot him a slightly panicked look. "Getting warmer. He suffers from total amnesia. I was hoping you could find what happened; and who he is. He's not one of your victims, is he?" he asked suddenly. He didn't think so... "Anyway, he's mine. Don't damage him," his smile was quick and lopsided; he liked his plan, a lot. This was more fun than he'd had in ages.
306494 stood a little straighter at Two's words. That he had the protection, favor of the second- or maybe first- strongest Falchion was unbelievable. Two didn't want him hurt.... Someone CARED?

"Oh." Eight quickly dropped 306494's arms, now frowning.
"Amensia...Is that like repressed memories? Forcibly making people remember things that they don't want to remember is hard on the brain."
Eight pressed one hand to the guy's forehead, as if checking his temperature.
"Since I can't break you, I have to warn you that remembering anything can be painful, but I've only really worked with repressed memories before, not amnesia, so I have no clue as to what I'm doing. Let's hope your old thoughts and personality come back with those memories too!" Eight giggled there, and turned to look straight at 306494, blinking.
"Quick question, you do WANT to remember everything, right?"

"I don't know how he lost his memory," Spike admitted, "and clearly, neither does he."
306494 listened closely to what she said. When Eight asked him what he wanted, he stared blankly at her, then looked at Two, as if for orders. The latter sighed. It seemed like in losing his memories, the kid had lost who he was. His personality, ability to make his own desicions. In a way... The perfect soldier. The reason Spike had wanted his memories back was because he disliked the element of unpredictability. Who knows how, as with the accumulation of new memories, his personality would develop. Normally he'd just let him be, but his plan would not be disastrous if 306494, for instance, developed unsatiable bloodlust, or some such condition which he wouldn't be able to control. Also, mind-jellified zombies, no matter what their uses... Weren't Spike's style.
"TRY not to break him," he corrected himself with a hint of irritation. "Anyway, you just reminded me; this is taking up quality time with my darling little raven," he added, already smirking in malicious anticipation, which instantly reminded 306494, with a shiver, that this was the Falchion's infamous torturer, not the luxury resort manager.

"Oh, Spike, I didn't know you've taken up Ornithology!" Eight's eyes widened in suprise. "If you need some more tips, I think there are some type hawks that live in the Canyon. They should would be lovely to watch!"
She turned to 306494, whispering rather loudly, "This is good for him, he needs some cleaner hobbies.", and it was unclear what she was exactly mentioning, the smoking or the torturing.
"Anyway~", Eight continued, "I have some rules, Mr. Amnesiac. First off, take down all mind barriers you have. Secondly, don't resist. Don't resist me trying to unlock the memories, and don't resist the memories. Thirdly, don't panic if everything starts rushes back at once. Even if you start to remember the tragic deaths of everyone you love, don't panic. 'Kay then?"
Eight flipped back to Two.
"I think I'm just going to try to pick out some of his most powerful memories, and hopefully all of them will fall back into him like a big game of Jenga. If it doesn't trigger, then I might hafta build his memory from the ground up-And that's just plain horror for all of us." The Leader made a face. "It will be easier to just finish him off as quick as a lame horse! ...Also, you know the drill, if the connection is still on after a mintue, snap me outta it, Mmkay?"
Eagerness shown in the girl's eyes as she met 306494's eyes and asked, "Ready?"

@Taffy789 Annabell awkwardly slipping away? 😉

"Maybe you should show me sometime," he replied, managing to sound just as nonchalant as he had speaking about 306494's memory. Two didn't bother trying to correct her misapprehension about his reference to ravens, deeming it not worth the effort.
306494 heard everything without Two's questing gaze discerning any noticeable reaction, panic or otherwise. To the kid, he supposed, it was just another odd mission he was required to undertake...
Love? Emerald eyes blinked in consternation. 306494 simply nodded, said he was ready, pretending to understand what was going on. He guessed it didn't particularly matter. He'd just do as Two said, of course, and if Two wanted him to do as this Eight said, well, that made little difference to him.

"Show you what?" Eight questioned Two, giving him a blank stare.
She turned back to 306494 so fast her hair whiplashed in his face.
"Okay, now, let's get going. Oh! If you come out knowing every word of "Boyfriend", it's not my fault."
Eight then quickly met the guy's eyes.

@Taffy789 ... The point of which is? X3

Two shook his head amused. He always wondered whether she did that on purpose. Was she really as scatterbrained as she seemed? She had power over memory, after all. It wouldn't surprise him if behind that pretty face, she knew exactly what she was doing. And maybe all her insanity was a mask behind which she could protect her sanity. It was an unnerving theory, and one of many. That was what he liked about Eight. She was so hard to figure out.
But, as a tool, Eight was painstakingly inefficient. He tapped his foot impatiently. He didn't have all day.

Eight's eyes, a steely kind of iron-blue, locked down on his own. His last thought was that they looked shockingly familiar, before an image overrode his mind, and he was plunged into another strange world, alien yet entirely his own.

Riley looked up. Two large hands-adult hands- were presenting him with something. His perspective was strangely low. He stood on his tip-toes and craned his head to get a better view of the giver. The man's eyes were like seafoam, predominantly blue with hints of green, and his hair a fiery red- where had he seen that before? Oh. It was just like his... This was his father. The realization brought up a strange pain in his chest, not sharp, but an ache like something was missing.
The present was a small toy car, a sports car; the kind that made you whip your head around as it flew by in a blur. His dad was smiling. In real life, his eyes burned.

In my hunch was right and she would totes kinda recognize SOMEONE. .3. (Joy~ I finally got something right! 😃 *fistpump*)
A good spy's heart never dies~ x3
And Annabell is like, the biggest stalker ever. .3.
PS: I think the "she just hit her head REALLY hard" theory would be the best one. .3.
PSS: I'm just going to assume he's done? Yes, he's now a pie. x3
PSSS: Guess who had sugar today? 😃 *raises hand*
------

Eight's forever staring eyes finally started to blink, her unmoving body reanimating.
Emphases on "animated".
"OH NO! HE'S REALLY AN EVIL SPY FOR THE FLAKEYS! HE NOW KNOWS ALL OF THE GLAEROES SECERTS, WHHHYYYYY?" lamented Eight, practically screeching her head off of her shoulders and forgetting which side she was on, "HE'S ALSO IN THE RUSSIAN MAFIA! AND THAT ONE ZOMBIE WHO KILLED THAT DOG IN THAT ONE MOVIE!" Eight sniffled, suddenly dropping her tone down and practically head-butting Riley's shoulder, "Why, why? That dog didn't do anything to you!"

( Q: Is she always like this after messing with other's minds?
A: No, sometimes it's worse. 😃
And why do I keep referencing I Am Legend? ._. )

@Taffy789 ... But everyone SAW her there >.> Why be invisible? XD
And, some people are just too intelligent for their own good ^^"
NO WAY HE'S DONE! D: This is a perfect opportunity to go over Riley's entire life story! 😊

There was another boy at his house growing up. A quiet kid, with black hair, gray eyes. He remembered races, fights, competitions, but always friendly. Kuro had been the kid's name.
A girl with long, spiked flaming hair, and sea-green eyes, that was his sister, twin sister, the family resemblance clear as day. Only this person was 2D. Her photo center page, right below the word, "missing" in bold. He remembered walking the streets, the parks, everywhere, calling her name. Alex.
Wavy, blonde hair, brown eyes, another girl. Except this one was different. Her name was Angel, and she was his.
Then one by one, they were gone, and he was left alone.

The rest of his memory was a complete blank, a slate wiped clean.
306494- Riley Diaz- returned to his body, which had fallen to its knees in his absence, doubled over, hands on his head like he could shut out the pain by blocking his ears.

Eight stopped screeching and glanced down at the shivering Riley.
"Ohhhh~ I am SO glad I got outta there as soon as I felt the Jenga tower collapsing. That would've been...not nice for me at all." she noted, shaking her head.
"But he remembered most naturally...Good." Eight now let a smile spread across her face, looking rather pleased with her work
Suddenly, a blank look crawled across her face, as if the under-used gears in her mind started to twirl themselves.
"...." Eight quietly crouched down next to Riley, rocking herself back and forth with her heels as he seemed to wither in pain.
"I said it was going to be painful...But if you need a happy place to go to, you can have one of mine, I have one hundred-thirty-two of them." Eight honestly offered, though looking a bit uncomfortable as she did.
"That, or I know a guy who can get you some anti-sadness meds!" she chirped, seemingly unaware of how she most likely wasn't making anything better.

"Happy place?" Two stated as much as questioned, sounding as blank as Eight after one her convenient memory lapse episodes. He pulled the crippled Riley up onto his feet by the collar, let go and watched as kid's knees gave way, sighed and grabbed his shirt again. "Well," he muttered to himself, "that saves time." He turned back to Eight. "He doesn't know the first thing about pain," he paused, unsmiling, then allowed himself a small smirk. "But he will." From his view, Riley was ignorant and he was about to educate him.
Mostly just to check whether his subordinate was still conscious, he ordered, not questioned, loftily; "Private. Your name."
"R-riley... Diaz," the addressed managed to choke out. "Sir."
Two nodded, satisfied. When it seemed that Riley would be able to at least crawl on his own, he withdrew his support. Riley dropped down onto all fours, shuddering, but after a glance at his superior, conjured up the strength to push himself back onto his feet, though still unsteady. Spike didn't wait until the exit, where he stopped, but not for Riley. "Will I see you in the interrogation chambers later?" he inquired cooly, not looking back.

The leader stood up, brushing her the dust off her clothes.
"Only if I can play on your IPod!" Eight giggled, about to run after Two.
She leapt over the first few benches before pausing, then turning back to look at Riley.
"Oh! If you can't really remember things...They'll all return in time. Trust me. Also, try not to kill yourself or anything, the pain and shock will fade away eventually...I mean, you've already dealt with it once, non?"
With those final words of advice, Eight turned back and focused on tailing Two, shouting, "Spikey~! Can I come?"

"You may," Spike answered cautiously. Not like she'd ever let no stop her. But she often asked whether she COULD and then informed him she'd just wondered if it was an OPTION.
Riley slowly drank in his surroundings through slightly narrowed eyes, even while most of his effort was required in the task of remaining vertical. Riley's memories of the base from his time as Not Riley- 306494, the mere number- were clear in his mind, but felt oddly disconnected; like he remembered the places but did not KNOW them. Well, it was immaterial. He'd have to wait and see what it was Two wished from him before anything else.

"Oh, by the way, I've been looking over some sheets, and there have been some reports of craters made from explosions...Like the ones that Col makes! Aww, that reminds me, poor coal, always getting left in stockings." Eight chattered animatedly to Two, "I mean, you can use it to keep cool, but I guess you use Kools, am I right? I love the slawy cole.

(Filler, to show my love of word play. 😃 )
~

Annabell gave Riley one final quick, invisible glance before quickly sneaking off.
Her mind reeled, trying to figure out what happened.
Wasn't Riley DEAD? ...Then again, Leon checking any pulse was probably confusion and misunderstanding just WAITING to happen. (Lol. )
The girl pondered to herself if she should've stayed around to question him, but frankly, the thing she remembered the most about Riley was their intitial meeting, where he guessed she was a spy and tried to break her arm, which it seemed to be standard, rememering Col.
And what about Two? She shuttered, recalling what he'd mentioned about a "raven"...Annabell knew she probably would've simply brushed the sentence off if it hadn't been said so maliciously... What had that girl gotten herself into?
Now, Annabell couldn't forget about Eight....Wait, yes, yes she could. Maybe she could get the leader to repress that meeting?

Unwilling to even attempt to follow Eight's meaningless chatter, Two forgot the words and just listened to the sound of her voice as he walked. Of course, he could have just teleported; he really ought to save time, else he'd be up all night; but he couldn't help it.
However, before long, they arrived at his destination. The training rooms.
Falchions going to and from the room scrambled to get out of the way as the group advanced. Two paid no attention; they were rats, less, beneath his notice.
Riley, practically sleepwalking, wandered towards a white door- his usual, he remembered vaguely- no restrictions, but he was stopped by Two's glance.
"Not that one," Two smiled a dangerous smile; one of a person who was about to take a risk- or, in his case, watch someone else take a risk. Without their consent.
Two led them alone the corridor for an age, until they reached the very end. There was the Leader's private rooms. There was Two's.

Zach stared at his trial score, not knowing wether to feel pride or extreme annoyance; though only one emotion was allowed on his face, anger.
"Tell me how in HECK did I get a score high enough to qualify?!" Zach demanded the flinching attendant from Eighth.
"Uhh, well," the boy started to flip through the papers he was holding, desperately trying to find the correct one.
Zach sat and impatiently wondered to himself if everyone from Eighth were just desk work jockeys. (About 1/5 of them are, actually. )
"Well, you see, there was this thing, these people, more like a group-a scoring group actually- gave you pretty high marks. And..yeah." The attendant then quickly backed away from Zach, out of the cafeteria.
Zach sighed, pulling himself up.
"First this sense of "danger" that is still bothering me, and now my this..." he muttered under his breath, rubbing temple.
It all made no sense. Zach had made sure just to PASS to trials, not do anything to amazing. Competing was something that he did not want to do-at ALL. It was just another blasted thing to be concerned about, another thing he had to do.
"That scoring group can go to heck." he finally sighed, quietly coming to terms with the fact it was something he now had to do.

@Taffy789 ... The challengers only have an average of a 49.3% death rate 😊

"They should be giving out score cards soon," Spike muttered absent-mindedly, while lazily joining up a navy blue dot pair in a game of Flow. He was reclining in a particularly comfortable La-Z-boy, in the preparation room which overlooked his miniture arena, which was currented SIMulated into a cave scene, with Riley pressed down on his back under a large boulder, which was squishing him to death. Two clicked his fingers; the scene changed, jungle, and about five "Ferals" jumped on the kid, still on the ground, while the others watched looking slightly bored, even if they were SIMs.
Honestly? The kid was doing- well, DISMALLY would be an exaggeration. In his condition, it was what could reasonably be expected from a physically average guy (for IOD). And, well, Two had high standards.
"Okay, enough of that," he clapped his hands together once and the SIM faded to black. Riley also had a disadvantage against the SIMs. They could use their powers, but his had no effect on their non-existant minds. Time to try something different.

"She said, full access to the Trials," Col whined a little under his breath. "She didn't say it was compulsory..." The trials got simply boring. But here he was, stuck going through lame recordings of those he'd missed. Hey- that was that guy, Blackie, who'd been on that French mission~
Col chewed popcorn thoughtfully as he watched.

Meanwhile, Eight, in her office...

"Eight?" A voice questioned. "You wanted to see me?"
"Jenna! Come in!" Eight chirped happily, bouncing out of the rolling chair by her desk, rushing to the door and practically dragging her assistant over to her desk.
"Jenna" hardly blinked, too used to this kind of behavior, and waited a few seconds before firing yet another question towards the Leader.
"So, Eight, you wanted to-"
"How do you like my hair?" Eight inturpted, flicking a strand of newly dyed, dark-blue hair towards the assistant.
"Very nice." she complemted, "Now, about-"
"Oh no! Your constant interrupting made me almost forget~", the blue-hair Leader moaned rather loudly, "I need you to keep an eye on this guy." Eight handed Jenna a single slip of paper.
" Not a very close one, but records if something important happens. I like to follow games of chess, you know."
Jenna paused as she read the number printed on the slip-306494.
"It was weird. He actually acknowledged his existence." Eight pondered outloud, a puzzled look flashing across her face.
"Oh!", Eight's eyes widened once more as she remembered something, and she shoved a pile of papers at Jenna before skipping towards the door, "Also, be a dear and organize those for me, Mmkay?"
And with that, Eight was out the door.

"So," Two started, drawing his long sabre from its sheath casually and letting the blade fall naked to his side, the familiar grip as comforting as anything in his hand. "Do you have a preferred weapon?"
Riley stared at the sword. "No, sir."
Two wondered if the, sir, was usual. He ignored it. "You prefer hand-to-hand combat?" At least he should never have to fight Seven.
"No sir."
What was he then, a conscientious objector?? Spike narrowed his eyes and ran a hand habitually down the safe side of the sabre. "I suppose we'll just start from scratch then."
It would take longer than he thought. They'd have to save mindgames for another day.

A single hour later, looking exactly the same as he had after lounging in the comfy chair all day, Two waltzed into the little conference room were the random people were pointlessly checking over the computerized scores of the contendants.
Needless to say, all of them were a bunch of no lifes who were honored out of their existence by his prescence there, except for Col, who was already half-zombified.
As though it pained him, Two sighed and handed the poor kid his iPad, on both sides as though a starving boy was being given food. Which was basically the same thing. Secretly, Two would rather not have Four dying, not if he could help it.

"It is quite odd though, isn't it?" One mused quietly, before slowly raising her elegant china teacup to her lips and taking a small sip.
"I couldn't say," the informant tugged on his collar uncomfortably. Darn it... This had not been mentioned when he'd been told to deliver one stinking message.
"You couldn't? I thought you worked for him," Kitty responded in a carelessly casual tone. "Well, I can say so. And I do," she sounded thoughtful. "Have you finished changing?"
"Y-y-yes..." Squeezing his eyes tight, he emerged from behind the velvety curtain, which promptly dematerialized into nothing, not exactly comforting.
"Oh my," came the pleased exclamation from the presence in the chair. "I was right; pink is definitely your color..."
The boy wanted to melt into the floor. Earlier, he thought his job was pretty terrible. Cleaning Two's torture rooms? How bad did it get? He'd jumped at the chance when a message needed to be delivered to One. But now... He never, ever wanted to be a messenger. Ever.
"So, Two's taken a fancy to this kid, has he?" Kitty stared into the huge windows which basically made up the walls of the room. They were underground, of course. There were no windows. These were illusions which showed.... Whatever she wanted to see, around the Falchion base. Right now, they showed above the ground directly above, a luscious meadow sprinkled with buttercups.

"Listen up everyone!" The Effie Trinket imitator was back, and with a new look. Which was practically the same as before, only her hair was green. Her annoying face was projected into every room of the base. "We've got the scooooooores.... Yes, the scores for the strongest, the fastest, the smartest, no, the BEST fighters the First Division has to offer, RIGHT HERE!" she waved a small envelope in the air. "So, without further adoooo....."
The screen turned black, numbers started appearing, one after the other, the ones which ranked the lowest first, saving the best for last.

Col looked at the numbers with little interest, doubting he could recognize any from the swamp of digits. But to his surprise, he did.
The Eighth looked vaguely familiar. 129. Now who could that be? No one from his own- No, he remembered now. Someone from Ninth Division. Evie had talked about that number. Had seemed almost fond of the student. Told him that number would go far. Hmmm...
The Seventh. 113. He couldn't quite place that one.
The Second? 102. Now, that... Yes. Two's assistant. Fond of the number?
The last, now that surprised everyone. 306494... Wasn't a number from the First Division.
It looked like Two was having a good day...
