"It's funny how this is for all classes to mingle, isn't it?" He remarked.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well, why would they? Most commoners dislike the higher families, and wouldn't exactly want to make friends with anyone lower."
"So why do you think everyone's here?" I smiled.
"To meet the Queen of course."
"Well, they're going to be disappointed." I laughed.
"I guess so..." He smiled slightly.
"So why are you here?" Isn't this a waste of time?
"Maybe I'm not looking for HER...."
"Well, this is the WORST place to look for someone," I said, slightly anxious. "Everyone's wearing masks!" I laughed. "You could be dancing with anyone..."

It was pitch black dark in the back and there didn't seem to be any more noise. I shrugged. The next band was already playing. So far everything seemed to be going smoothly.
Bored, I glanced over at the table hoping for a new little mission to do. Instead of a letter, there was a small note attatched to a card, the Jack of Spades, that read 'For Jacqueline, From the Queen of Spades.'
I paused for a moment. "Why the heck am I a Jack of Spades?!" I hissed to no one. This was getting wierd.

The Queen felt the excitement emanating from Jackie and smiled.
She glanced back out the window and now saw the runaway standing close to the boy. A frown appeared on the Queen's porcelain-like face.

Suddenly I looked around. Everyone had gone, and we were alone in a small room. He smiled. "But I'm not, am I, Vee?" He took off my mask. I stared at him in astonishment. Then...

I glanced back out the window, finally out of my little trance.
I paused. "No..." The two of them were gone. I leapt up to my feet and was running as fast as I could. They were no longer outside. Where the heck could that girl have gone?

Somewhere else in Calico, the Queen leapt up to her feet for another reason. Her face was contorted, the silk flower she was toying with was now in shreds.

"J.J.!" I shrieked and ran into his arms. "I can't believe you're here!"
"Shhh..." He told me and looked around. "Why were hosting the party?"
I told him everything.
"Vee... Why did you run away?" J.J. asked. He almost looked sad.
"They were going to betroth me! To HIM!"
"Oh." He looked a bit confused. "So you won't come home, even now?"
I looked at him desperately. "I can't..." He nodded, and we rejoined the crowd, parting.
I guess I'll never see him again...

The Queen sighed and sat down. No, she'd have to make things work.

I ran through the crowds, searching left and right. They weren't there... Were in the world could they be?
I paused as it seemed like voices whispered in my ear again. I spun around and pulled out my switchblade

I woke with a start to the smell of something sickeningly sweet.
"Owww." I moaned, pulling myself up from the ground. Noticing that my hands were sticky, I looked down at them. They were a bright bloody red. A shrill scream filled the air.

"Roger that, blondie" Keeran made saluting gesture and went to the crowd. He was amazed by all the different costumes and masks. It was pretty interesting and pretty sarcastic this little event. Both classes despise each other yet everyone came here to see one thing. The Queen. "Who know she might as well be that Jester over there.." Keeran thought.

Gracie was talking to this weird lady with weird hair. The lady asked where did Gracie get her hair done. And Gracie said,"Nowhere. It's my natural color." And they all looked in amazement. 'All classes and cards here, mingling.' Gracie thought. 'Almost too weird to be true. But, it's the Queen. Pft, will she even show herself?' she thought.

Keeran heard the scream. He ran in the direction it came. Getting to the locating wasn't easy as whole crowd was wanting to see what happened as well.
He kept pushing the ladies and children anxious to see what happened.

There were people gathering around me now. I managed to get up and notice there was blood down the front of my dress. I felt ready to gag now. There were people murmuring quietly to themselves.
The annoying voice whispered into my ear once again. "Run." And this time I obeyed its order.

The Queen smiled. The plans were back in motion again and the boy didn't have to be dealt with at least. One less life to take care of. The one taken just a moment ago could be a hassle though.

Keeran noticed masked girl with black dress running away. He kept on following her. He wasn't a hero, ever. But he was going to stop that murderer. He knew that this place was heaven on taking revenge on someone. It was easy to spy one person you wanted to murder or rob and find out what costume the person will wear and execute your plan on the masquerade.

I finally slowed down as I came close to the alleyway on the other side of town. Climbing the staircase that led all the way up to the rooftop, I began to think back.
How in the heck did I end up on the ground? I didn't remember seeing anyone. Or wait... did I?
I pulled myself all the way onto the rooftop and lay there. After a moment, I pulled out my switchblade. No blood.

Keeran followed the shady person all the way to the building. He was dead tired and panting but he reached the roof where he saw the person climbing. He saw the figure lying there cowered with blood. "What have you done?!" he screamed.

That wasn't right. Was I hallucinating? The blade was clean as it ever was. No scratches, not a single mark. But there was blood all over my front and hands. It was drying out now.
In the distance, there were people, voices. The party was dying out early today. Two people passed by on the cobblestone street down below me. I could just barely make out bits their conversation.
"...ait... so you saw..."
"...and the young man fell after he was attacked..."
"...WHO?! Are you sure it was really..."
"...yeah, it was the Jack of Hearts."
"...what about the hostess?..."
"She was too..."
"No..."
I rolled over and groaned. The Queen had to be behind this. The Queen herself would never shown up. She needed someone from her 'family' so she would get the credit.
I pulled out my new card. The Jack of Spades now had blood on her hands.

The Queen watched as the party died out and the last people left. The last few people were there to clean up the last bits and the mess left behind.
Far away, her messenger was fearfully waiting and her new Ace was making her way home. Everything was going as planned...

Sarah was still confused. All she knew was that someone died.
"Guess i'm not getting paid." she thought as she walked off.
As she was walking though the streets, she saw a meduim sized brown hawk roosting on a building.
When she looked again, it was gone.
"That couldn't have been what I thought it was..." Sarah asked herself, her face turning pale.
Scard, Sarah broke into a run.
