Aykay turned to Fang, keeping her voice low so the others wouldn't hear her.

"Is this really a good idea?" She asked him quietly. "Last time, I... I was captured."

She closed her eyes against the flashbacks. She saw the machines... their surprise at her appearance... and then the blades... coming down on her...

She clutched her head.

"I don't know if I can do this..."

-You're pathetic.- laughed the voice.

"I suppose I have to agree with you with this not being a good idea." Fang replied, after a few long seconds. "I don't believe I can do this either, but, whatever." He added, not bothering to at least try to be reassuring.

Fang gave Aykay a serious look. "But, I DO believe that if Aaron makes it out, all of us can." He said, as mean as ever.

Aykay glared at him. What a jerk. At least she felt a little better... She touched the transmitter.

"Almost at the tunnel entrance..." she said.

She turned to Fang. "I'm gonna stay human for a while... let me know if you see anything dangerous. The closer we get to this tower, the more machines there will be."

Fang turned away and shifted uncomfortably. "That's very nice." He said half heartedly. Fang slowly took off his jacket, not taking his eyes off of the piece of clothing.

Just as he fully slipped out of the jacket, a few knives fell from one of the sleeves. On Fang's arm were a few shallow cuts that must have been made by the blades. "Ouch." Fang said blandly. "And this, is why, I dislike running." He said as he kicked at the knives that lay on the ground.

Aykay was first distracted by the knives... That guy was dangerous... She would have to watch her back around him.

-Wouldn't that be ironic.- laughed the voice. -Killed by your own teammate...-

She then saw his arm. She reached out and touched his arm gently.

"Here, let me..."

Frost wanted to smack that Fang in the face. Seriously. Joking at a time like this. She saw his cuts, but it didn't seem to do him harm. "Come on, let's just go." she muttered sharply.

Aykay nodded.

"Yes... we're close..." she said quietly. "It's just over here..."

She walked over to a steep incline. She pulled away a canopy of vines to reveal an entrance.

"Get in before machines start showing up." She said, rushing the others in.

"Don't touch me." Fang growled as he pullled his arm away. He pulled on his jacket again, then picked up the 3 knives that had fallen out of his sleeve in one swipe. Fang contemplated whether to put them back onto his sleeve or just throw them away.

He choose the latter, and threw them over his shoulder, only half watching to make sure he didn't accidentally stab anyone.

"Machines... Machines..." Fang muttered under his breath as he walked inside.

Aykay walked inside to a shelf. She began searching it for something.

"Coffee!" She said triumphantly. "Ray would never forgive me if I forgot this."

She went over to her bed... or rather, a smelly pile of blankets on the ground, and grabbed a bag, put the bag of coffee in it and put the bag over her shoulder.

"Help yourselves." She said, gesturing to the shelf.

Fang headed over to the shelf, befor he started to dig through any cabinets he could find. "You got any knives?" he asked straightforwardly.

Fang shifted to another cabinet, before meekly looking through it. "Because I don't see any." After another minute of searching, "I want a knife."

Aykay rolled her eyes.

"What use would I have for knives?" She asked. "My teeth do the job nicely."

She pointed to a sheet of plywood at the back of the room.

"That's the entrance to the tunnel when you are all ready."

Still a tad drowned in thoughts, Aizel didn't notice Ray slowing down and lining up to her at first. She was still diligently trying to pick a name for their team, going through all the posibilities with a great amount of seriousness.
'Maybe the Avengers? No, That's frigging taken! Agh! Why are all the good names already snagged?' Funny how a silly matter busied her so much. She had gotten over a few dozens of names until now, paying more attention to that, than to their task. 'Okay, how 'bout Lurkers? ...Hell no! ....Hrm, the Wild Bunch. Now that, I like.' she mused, a small smirk appearing on her face.

"Let me know if you guys want to slow down." Ray's voice penetrated her ears. She snapped out of her thoughts, eyeing him warily.
"Wait, wut?" A few minutes ago, he had been jumping with joy at the thought of saving the world - he pranced ahead like a superhero or something. Now he seemed down, softly said. She nudged him, rather harshly, but without any intention to hurt him.
"Oi, w's wrong Sunray? Where's your team spirit?" she chuckled, attempting to bring some humour into her question. He really did seem a tad unensthusiastic. "A minute ago you were jumping in joy and now that's gone down the drain... W's wrong?" she gave him another nudge. "Having second thoughts 'bout saving the world?" this time she sounded serious, all humour gone from her voice.

"Tsk, frigging cheesy," Ray responded teasingly to Aizel's name thoughts, overhearing the mumble as he slipped back to her side.
"Huh?" he appeared bemused for a moment at her questioning his mood change, which he hadn't thought sufficient enough to be noticable; he ought to give her more credit, bad as her team name suggestions were; she was perceptive. "Ahh," he stalled, running a hand habitually through his dark hair. "Just thinking. You know. The eternal internal struggle of light and darkness in my heart. That sort of thing," Ray explained jokingly.
Then as she grew serious, so his face darkened. He tilted his head back and stared skyward, as he pondered her query. "Saving the world...?" he asked himself quietly. Ray tore his gaze from the clouds to shoot her a quick smile. "That's quite some ambition. You think a guy like me...? No, don't get me wrong. I'm only along for the ride."

"Oi! Don't you steal my lines!" she exclaimed with a chuckle, aiming to kick him in the shin lightly. "But yeh, they ARE cheesy aren't they? I'm choosing between the Wild Bunhc or The Runners." she announced happily.

"But I think we should put the jokes aside, which is going to be hard for me, so don't pay attention if I slip up and blurt out something stupid, alright?" she warned, seriously waving a finger to him. "Now for real, what's wrong?" she asked, as if demanding, not questioning. "We all have the freaky mumbo jumbo external struggle thingie. Who doesn't, but that usually doesn't bring anybody down. It's enough to look around and see how scr*wed up everyone else is and you realize you're not so bad yourself." she explained, rather seriously. "So it must be something more serious and I won't stop poking you until you tell me what it is." she announced, holding her chin up high for more effect.
"Oh and-" she turned, giving him another kick to the shin. "I'll keep doing that if you ever think of leaving." she warned. "Why is everyone straying from the group? I mean, we're all emotionally involved in this, am I right? We all followed Madge 'cause we didn't know what to do, but now we know and we're important. Isn't that enough reason to stay?" It wasn't exactly a heartfelt speech, but she honestly hoped he would listen. She was needed and had a meaning, had a goal and people didn't think her additional baggage. And she was treated like a human being so that was enough.

Andrew raised his eyebrows, smirking. "I can catch glimpses, thanks though." Putting a blue hand to his mouth as he yawned, the hovercraft started dropping lower then the clouds. Then, it came into sight. "Oh hey, there's the Stark Tower." He said offhandedly as he was distracted with a chitauri. The ailen asked him a question regarding number of security or something like that, and Andrew answered it appropriately in the chitauri's native tongue, albit brokenly. "Sylv, did you know there's over a hundred chitauris in there? I wonder what could be so valuable to protect. Stark's hidden playroom?" Andrew joked, grinning.

Aykay pulled aside the plywood and motioned for the others to follow.

"It smells pretty badly down here." She admitted. "The machines don't know about this tunnel. I was caught well away from the tunnel entrance. We should be okay until we reach the main building..."

-Wouldn't want to get tortured again, would you?- asked the voice, triggering yet another flashback...

Aykay screamed in pain as the machine tore into her skin again. She tried again to transform, but the second she tried to go tiger to protect herself from the pain, the machine attacked again.

"STOP!" she begged. "PLEASE STOP!"

"How did you get in?" Demanded an unseen person in the shadows.

She was crying now. "I'm not sure. I was just..."

The machine was coming down on her again...

Aykay awoke from the flashback. She had collapsed.

Ray stopped. "Do you even know what you're talking about?" he asked, visibly annoyed. He shook his head and picked up the pace again. Clearly, she didn't. How could she understand, after all? She was slotting him alongside everyone else and expecting him to fit. But Ray wasn't a regular piece. His edges were jagged, and the more you tried to push that piece with another with which it didn't belong, the more it hurt.
"Oh... Maybe I'm just more easily affected than you guys," he suggested with a sheepish smile, wiping the previous outburst away, and dodged the kick.
Why did she have to be so darned nosy?!? And so rude...! What about personal space?? Did she really think she'd get anything out of him by pressure? Did she really think interrogation would HELP him? It was none of her business. It was nothing at all!! It was just some faded whisper of the past that clung on weakly to remberence. Soon to be forgotten... He hoped.
"Please... Stop generalizing," he told her politely. "Now if you've got enough energy to talk, you've got enough to run faster!"
He shot ahead, almost doubling the weak pace with ease.
Maybe running them to the ground WOULD be useful.

"No." Sylvia said. "The possibility that there are rebels hiding in there, as well as the humans finding a few of Stark's hidden resources and technology." She responded. "And, the only playroom I believe Stark needed was his bedroom." She added with a smirk as she looked out of one of the hovercraft windows out of boredom.

Pyra shook her head. She didn't need anything. When Akyay pried open the tunnel, she looked down it. It was pretty dark, but you could still see where you were going. Suddenly, she collapsed. What happened? She frowned over her. Hrmph. This might delay them a bit.

Aykay stood up slowly. That had never happened before...

"I'm sorry..." she apologized. "I don't know what happened..."

She gestured at the entrance, fighting off dizziness. She wasn't sure why the flashback was so violent this time... it must have to do with the proximity to the tower.

"Let's go..." she mumbled and started off down the tunnel.

Margot passed Aaron the can of fruit cocktail, as well as the can of tuna. "Get some protein," she rationalized in a distracted tone. A sticky combination of glucose and fructose would be fine for pepping him up, but they had a long task ahead of them with no foreseeable end. She would make sure he ate something substantial.

She wrenched away the pull tab to the chicken soup and began to drink it down. The cold, lumpy mixture didn't go down quite as easily as she would have hoped. She could feel mushy carrots squishing down against the back of her throat. However, as her stomach filled, her mind strayed from the undesirable taste of the food. She chewed thoughtfully on a tiny cube of preserved chicken, consciously ignoring the tiny globs of congealed fat. Wordlessly, she shifted her attention to the can of beans and finished it off in a similar fashion.

Their impromptu meal lasted no more than a few minutes. Margot wiped her mouth with the back of her wrist. "All right," she declared. "Let's move out." She set the pace at a brisk walk, and kept it up the entire way to Stark Tower.

She and Aaron wove their way through the backstreets and alleys before finally coming to rest behind Stark Tower itself. Its iconic structure made it easy to spot once they were in range. "We're in position. Ready to move forward. Status?" she said shortly into the headset. Then she leaned back against the wall and took a deep breath.

Aykay heard Margot's voice, but with her jumbled brain, it took her a few seconds to decipher the meaning of the words.

"We're starting off down the tunnel." she answered. Her voice sounded exactly the way she felt: exhausted and a little bit disoriented. "It should only take us about fifteen minutes."

She held her head. It hurt now. What was wrong?

"And Ray?" she added, smiling a little. "I found some coffee for you when the mission's done."

-Keep your brain on your mission, idiot. You don't want anyone to die because you're careless, do you?-

Was it her or was the voice sounding more... dangerous... Suddenly it was no longer a comfort to her...

"What are we retrieving, exactly?" she asked Margot.

Aizel waited patiently for the boy to finish with his scolding, an amused expression plastered to her face. It wasn't news that most people were annoyed of her, she often aimed for just that. But this time she'd tried to be nice, even if it was in her own twisted way. She had considered him fairly different from everyone - better in a way, but that belief crashed down shortly. He was on the thought that he was special... She raised an eyebrow, looking at his running form, and smiled knowingly.
"I was talking about you," she stated, running alongside him now. She despised fast paces, one could say she was too lazy to keep them and it was the truth. "I wasn't generalizing, I was just talking about you." her voice had changed. It wasn't as loud as before - now it reached barely above a whisper, and was flat, emotionless. "You think you're special 'nd different. You think you're the misfit of the group." she explained nonchalantly, waving a dissmissive hand to enlarge the sarcastic effect of her statement. Yes, he truly did think he was all that.
"But you're not. That's what I was trying to tell you nicely, but apparently you didn't seem to realize what I was talking about... We're all scr*wed up evenly." As of now, her voice had nearly turned to a whisper, but still lacked any kind of emotion. It was only her eyes that gleamed dangerously, aiming to burn holes trhough Ray's blue orbs. He had no idea who she was, he didn't even know her name and yet he had the nerve to talk...

"You can leave, for all I care. But I doubt you have anywhere to go... Am I right?" she flashed him a questioning glance at those words.
"I'll let you sleep on that question." she smiled, genuinely this time, and started slowing down and falling back. "Oh and Rayner, opening up, it helps... You should try it." her eyes softened, as she fell back, running in her usual lazy pace between Angel and Ray and glanced sideways where the top of Stark Tower poked out behind the roofs of the other buildings. The building looked fairly abandoned, it seemed ready to crash down. Strangely, the entire time they'd ran, things had been fairly quiet, only now did she realize that. "Darn." she muttered, regretting to have raised her voice earlier. All living things in a radius of one mile could have heard..

Maybe... He didn't understand at all. How WAS he different from the rest of them? Oh no, he couldn't think like that...
Because Ray knew exactly how his adopted mother would answer that question. She had so many times. His blue eyes darkened as they recalled the memory.... Ray looked down at his shoes as they flew across the earth Up ahead, they could see Stark Tower.... Who was he kidding?!
"Then... Why? Why hasn't anyone broken down and cried yet?" Ray's whisper was directed only to himself, so quiet it could have been mistaken for the teasing breeze conjured by their speed. "If I'm not different... Why am I all alone?" He'd told himself he'd wanted to run away, to be free of the pressures all bearing down on him. His eyes were burning from Aizel's dead glower. He blinked and found them wet. "If I'm not the misfit... " his breath caught, he coughed. "Then why am I the weakest?" Inaudible. Had he really escaped?
His hand curled into a fist, and he rubbed his eyes, not letting any tears flow. Ray was leader, he couldn't do this, couldn't cry...
He couldn't do this, how could he lead these people?
Ray didn't open up, because there was no one to open to. He wondered who Aizel had trusted...

As of now, Aizel was extending her neck and trying to get on her tipsy-toes so she could get a better glance of the Tower. She must've looked funny, she mused. Jumping up and down in attempt to see if there was any danger and poking her head around random corners. But she was still worried that someone might've detected them. They were fairly near the Tower and it was dead silence. From what she'd heard from Madge, the Tower was buzzing with Chitauri, so they should have either spotted or heard them.
Their group passed by the entrance of a thin and dark alley, which was located fairly close to Stark Tower. As they trotted past it, Aizel froze at first, as if shocked by lightning. She darted forward suddenly, hunched over near the ground and latched her hand to Ray's elbow, sharply tugging him down as well. She had some fears that the boy would topple over from her pulling.
"Shoosh." she hurriedly placed a finger over her lips, signalling him to keep quiet and pointed to the alleyway. The seemingly abandoned alley provided a good view to the next street, where a fairly large group of Chitauri was located.

Turning around, she motioned for Angel, who was far back, to stay in her place. She and Ray had already passed the alleyway unseen, so they were safe, but Angel still hadn't reached it.

As they walked down the tunnel, it began to grow darker. Last time, she'd had a flashlight, but that was long gone...

"Pyra." she said, as it became too dark to see. "You said your specialty was fire... is there any way you could light up the tunnel?"

It was as good a time as any to see this girl's powers. She had been very secretive about them thus far. What could she have to hide.

-No more than you do.- said the voice. -You're keeping me a secret, aren't you?-

Andrew said, "Oh yeah, the rebels. Guess we have to kill them sometime soon, eh?" He chuckled, and cracked his fingers. "Maybe we should just bash up all of Stark's stuff, it's no use to us." He re-adjusted his glove and smiled at Sylvia's comment. She seemed distracted, almost bored. What? Sylvia usually was excited or nagging him. He wondered what she was thinking about.

College? You crazy old person! 😋

Aaron barely finished his cocktail when Margot was already walking away. Bringing the tuna with him, he jogged to catch up with her long strides. As he finished off the tuna, they were already in sight of the looming Tower. When they stopped, Aaron sat down with his back against the wall. Already sore from all the fast walking, he groaned a bit as he massaged his shoulders.
Gosh, Margot was like a robot sometimes! Orders people around, always doing something, always being a leader. Sure, it was great, but seriously? Sometimes, you gotta let loose. When did she ever take a break?
Aaron wondered, in deep thoughts. He didn't bother starting a conversation as he knew he'd be talking to himself and didn't want to expose his bad breath.

Ray gasped, caught by surprise as the air whooshed past him; he was yanked forward by Aizel. The shock dislodged a single tear; it hit the ground and sunk quietly into the concrete. He slapped his face softly, as if to wake himself up.
Chitauri, of course.
Making sure to make no noise which might alert the enemy, he slipped a hand into his pocket and retreived the hearing-enhancer, and put it on. He could hear their steps now, even their mechanical breathing. They seemed to be arguing over which way to go, from what Ray could understand.

Margot shot Aaron an impatient look as he collapsed against the side of the building. She was actually fairly happy with how things had proceeded. He'd never forced her to slow down, and so far he hadn't whined at all. If anything he was being oddly quiet.

On the other end of the line, Aykay sounded tired and a little distant. However, they were making very good time. "I'm going to start heading up," she replied, craning her neck to get a good look at the building. It would take her about fifteen minutes to get to the top, if Aaron didn't weight her down too much. "Tell me if you run into any trouble." With that, she flipped the switch on each wrist, and tapped her heels together twice. Gentle vibrations ran through her hands and feet, alerting her that the equipment had been successfully turned on.

"Aaron," she instructed. "Come here." With quick fingers, she fished the tape measure out of her satchel and began pulling it out. The thin metal strip wouldn't hold as well as rope might, but it would at least help Aaron hold on. "I want you to grab on around my waist."
