An interesting question. Sylvia honestly wasn’t surprised. The whole point of the game was to amuse her, and it was doing just that. A short chuckle escaped her lips, it’s chirpy tone contrasting greatly with her less than chirpy personality.

“No. Not in this lifetime. I would never want to be put down on the same level as a mere mortal.” Her lips pursed as she thought. "Be that as it may, I shall give you some food for thought. One or a few times I may have heard father speak of being envious of your lifespans. Something about being free to do as you will, but I disagree so."

“Now.. Let's get back to the point. Royalty is a privilege, not a necessity.” She added, though she didn't clarify any further. Sylvia snapped her fingers and smiled.

"If you could have anything you wanted in all the galaxies combined, what would you like?"

Kita was quiet. She knew exactly what she wanted.

"My father." she said, then smiled, shaking it off. He was gone. That was that. No use griping about it.

"Um... If you..."

There was a knock on the door. Kita went to check who it was. As she was about to reach for the door, she felt a familiar combination of emotions... It was difficult to pinpoint people's emotional signature, since how someone is feeling can often change in the blink of an eye, but this guy was as emotionally simple as it got.

"Um... Milady... Captain Harrison is here."

It occurred to her that this was her room. Someone must have directed him here, because he certainly wasn't here for her.

"Would you like me to let him in, or would you prefer I get his message and send him away?" She normally would have simply opened the door, but given the princess' reaction to he revelation about his feelings...

Sylvia recognized the voice Kita spoke in when she answered her question. It was the voice of someone that had loved and lost, but instead of moping over it like a weakling, she had decided to move on.

Her eyebrows arched at the sound of knocks on the door, along with Kita’s confirmation that someone was indeed there. She made no move to walk towards the doorway and instead of answering Kita’s question, she tilted her head to the side and stared the human in the eye.

“Do what you wish, it matters not to me.” Her statement was blunt and bland, giving away no favor to either option.

Kita hesitated, and then turned the knob.

"Milady." Captain Harrison said bowing. Kita noted the increase in his levels of anxiety. He was trying to make a good impression. "I've just received a report from Captain David. He's detained one of the rebels from the prison attack... The Kapelle girl... and a young man who was accompanying her. He could not confirm whether the man was involved in the attack, but he is a confirmed runaway from the factories. We request your orders, as your father is indisposed at the present moment, and an attack on the prison is no small matter."

"Tch."

Sylvia despised having to take care of her father's unfinished business. She stood and strode over to where Kita and the Captain stood. "You found them much quicker then expected." Sylvia covered her mouth as she yawned, her emerald eyes closing as she did so.

"Tell the man to bring them here. I look forward to meeting them, but I refuse to travel to the smelly prisons."

She slipped past the two of them and into the hallway. "Let us meet them outside. I don't want their unclean bodies inside the palace."

Sylvia gestured towards Kita. "Come along. You could be of some help."

She turned to look at Harrison. "You too, if you have no other tasks to attend to after delivering this message."

"They say that it was Dr. Jessica Kapelle... Captain Ethan's wife... the doctor from the workyards... that tipped them off. Apparently Captain Ethan's sister was the one arrested... The one with the tiger mutation... Dr. Kapelle disabled her powers apparently..."

Kita walked two steps behind the princess and the captain, who was rambling on in an incredibly awkward manner. Kita kept getting pangs of nervousness from him, and it was distracting.

She looked around the hallway, noticing only the three of them. This guy was driving her crazy, and she could only assume that Sylvia would soon lose patience with him too. Ensuring that neither of them were looking in her direction, she raised her hand slightly. She had wanted to practice anyway, right?

She concentrated on the nervous energy coming from the captain. It was easiest to think of the emotion in terms of colours... in this case a pulsing bright orange. Slowly, she changed the colour in her mind to a calm blue. The captain visibly relaxed and his frantic speech slowed to a more comfortable pace.

She lowered her hand, rubbing her head. Finally... some peace and quiet... The change was not as subtle as she had hoped, but it had been much faster than the last time. Maybe three minutes? Not bad.

As they treaded down the hallway, Captain Harrison began rambling on and on, giving her information that she didn't have a single care for. By the time they had reached the end of the hallway he seemed to have realized how quickly he had been speaking and had calmed down quiet a bit. As she turned the corner, she spotted Kita from the edge of her vision. The human was following them like a good servant, and Sylvia appreciated that the girl could obey directions.

Though Harrison's words were spoken at a considerably slower rate, Sylvia still got tired of hearing his voice. Eventually, she stopped walking, grabbed the captain's arm and held him in place.

"You." Sylvia said, staring him in the eye. She made sure that he was looking, before reaching a single finger up and shushing him. "Got it?" Once her point was clear enough, Sylvia let go of the mortal before turning and continuing on her way.

"All I actually needed to know was that it was that the girl was arrested and the names of those involved."

"They will be awarded and/or punished accordingly." She glanced towards Kita. "Seems fair, am I correct?"

Kita nodded. "Of course, Milady."

Was it fair? There was a nagging voice in the back of her head. Certainly it was lawful. Rules were broken, and punishment was a logical response... But Kita also knew what "punishment" could mean, and something inside her knew that simple crimes could easily be punished by extreme means...

Kita stood next to the gardener, whom she knew as Momma Beatrice, watching the public trial from the balcony. At ten years of age, she couldn't follow most of what the head guard was saying, but she did know that the young man bound in chains was in big trouble.

"Momma Beatrice, why do we have to watch? I'm bored." she said, plaintively. "I wanna go help peel potatoes."

"Because the Emperor told us to watch, Kita." explained Momma Beatrice gently. "Besides, the kitchen ladies are watching as well. They're in the crowd somewhere. You can go help when this is over. I'm sure they would love your help."

Kita sighed heavily. "Why is the man in trouble?"

Momma Beatrice squeezed Kita's hand the way she always did when she had to explain something difficult. She pointed to one of the tall buildings near the palace.

"Do you see that?" she asked.

Kita nodded. On the side of the crumbling structure was painted a white star encircled with two red rings. It wasn't a very nice drawing, in her opinion.

"That man was the one who painted it there. He's being punished." She explained.

Kita could feel sadness coming from Momma Beatrice. She knew what happened when people disobeyed the emperor. Momma Beatrice always made sure to never keep things like that a secret from Kita... She said it was easier to make good choices when you knew what you were facing.

"I don't wanna watch." Kita whimpered.

Momma Beatrice let her bury her head in her shirt, muffling sounds and sights alike...

...But she could still feel everything,

Eventually the trio made it through the long hallways and to the large front doors. Sylvia stopped in front of the closed entrance. Her eyes darted to the sides of the door frame and noticed the 2 chitauri standing motionless, resembling a statue in their immobile display.

“What are you 2 waiting for?” She said crisply. “Open the doors.” Almost as soon as she finished her sentence, the pair turned towards the double doors and pulled them open without so much as a struggle. A gust of wind blew into the hall and Sylvia breathed it in with satisfaction.

The fresh air appealed to Sylvia and she took to walking at a much slower pace once she was outside. As she continued down the smooth path to the front gate she pondered on the current situation. Certainly, there had been uprisings before, but they had always been put down rather quickly. The largest one had ended in only a matter of hours. This time however, Sylvia felt as if it would be much more different than the others. “Hm…” She smiled to herself as she plucked a rose from the bush on the side of the walkway. She ignored the thorns on the stem as she lifted it up to her face, the bold red contrasting vividly with her pale skin.

Sylvia had expected the empire to last more than just a decade, but it was about time something more interesting come up then a few humans stealing food. If these rebels were who she thought they were, and capable of what she expected them to be of, things were really going to be absolutely enthralling. “Yes..” She muttered to herself. “It’s about time.”

The front gate was opened noiselessly and she halted her musing. For now.

Sylvia was very clearly deep in thought. She had thought about asking what she meant by it being 'about time', but she could tell it was not directed at her.

Captain Harrison had fallen silent as per the princess' request and was still uncharacteristically relaxed. Kita knew it would wear of eventually.

Along with the ability to feel the emotions of others, she had discovered almost a year ago that she also had a certain degree of influence over their emotions as well, though she was not very good at it.

While reading emotions was a very passive thing that she didn't have any control over, affecting emotions required effort, and she had only really mastered changing to relaxation, fear and anger.

She followed them towards the gate, noticing a dead branch on one of the rose bushes. Out of habit, she reached down and pulled it free, but without her work gloves, she felt the sharp sting of thorns in her palm.

She ditched the branch and caught up with other two, pulling a thorn from her hand. She didn't understand why the elite loved roses so much... Probably because they never had to take care of them.

A metal rod caught Fang's eye. He picked up the make shift weapon. Fang knelt down by the little girl so he was eye level to her. "I'm going to fight us through this okay? Hold on and you'll be safe." He lifted the cat off his shoulder and handed it to the child. "And you can take care of the kitty, alright?" He turned and stood as he heard the footsteps of some more of the Emperor's monsters. "Just try to keep up." Those were the last words he was able to say before the chitauri arrived. With no hesitation, the creatures attacked, swinging weapons much more advanced than his was.

Dodging one of the attacks, he returned with a hard swing of the rod. It hit the monster in the face. A loud screech emitted as it took backwards steps into an allies sharp claws. With those two distracted he turned to face another chitauri- but was quick enough to only to not die. The sharp weapon the monster held missed his chest only to cut his already hurt side. His breath caught as he used his rod to hit the creature in the head, decapitating it. The pain was nothing as he looked around wildly. His weapon was at the point of breaking as he used it to hit another monster on the face. And with that last attack, the rod broke in half as the last chitauri dashed at him.

Picking up a large chunk of steel he swung at it's face. With a cry it fell back. As Fang gathered his strength for the next blow, the monster stabbed Fang's arm before pulling back. Ignoring the new wound, he finished off the creature.

The chitauri collapsed motionless on the ground. In his adrenaline filled state Fang ripped the creatures arm off to use as his new weapon. He pulled the little girl along with him through the dark tunnels as even more steel and rock fell. His joy that there were no more creatures soon fell short when he reached a dead end. Growing desperate, he turned to go back from where he came from when the roof collapsed, effectively cutting them off. His eyes widened psychotically as he panicked, fearing for his own life. It took him a few seconds to realize that the tunnel was going uphill. If he could get past the hindering pile of rubble and the concrete wall, he would reach safety, even if it was the last thing he would do.

...
..
.

Fang groggily opened his eyes. He leaned on his shoulder as he attempted to sit up, shaking off the last of his dream. Was it a dream ? Or was it reality ? Fang examined his surroundings, and smiled slightly when a small cat pounced on Fang's exposed hand. He pulled it aside and the cat followed. With a sigh, he let the animal have it. Fang looked around once more, and this time, his eyes landed on a young girl. She looked so familiar. He struggled to remember, when it suddenly hit him. She was the little girl he had tried to save from the collapsing building. "Where am I?" He asked. "How long have I been... unconscious?" He ran his free hand through his hair. "How did we get out?"

Ethan pushed aside the food he'd been given to eat. It wasn't bad, all things considered... He just didn't really have an appetite...

He was sore from being kicked by the princess, but he wasn't too concerned about that. He had been through much worse than a bruised side. He felt the burn marks on the side of his face and neck. Yes, he had been through much worse...

And Autumn... she had been injured as well, presumably from the attack on the prison... perhaps that was why she hadn't come.

Or maybe she had abandoned him...

He didn't want to admit that the idea was bothering him, but it was. She was a rebel... would she go so far as to betray him? He had risked everything... and lost everything... to try and help her... Was he wrong to do so? Should he really have chosen her over his job? His emperor?

His wife?

And if it came down to it... if Aykay really was his enemy... and he got another chance, would he be able to fight her?

He put his head in his hands. How could she do this to him? How could she make him choose like this? This was all her fault.

Ray wasn't really seeing many viable options here. He didn't really care about the Doc of course, but if she was some sort of family of Tiger Girl's, and she seemed to care about her family a lot, that meant he shouldn't do anything to hurt her, right?
Unsure about what to do, he just went along with the nice military men and let Jessy-o or whatshername go.
He watched them take Aykay in absolute silence and, what was for him personally, an admirable effort for equal stillness. Meaning he rubbed his fingers urgently together and tried to concentrate on the feeling of losing skin before his nervous hyperactivity really got to him and he acted out with something much more crazy and damaging.
Like slipping on his homemade glove in a mere split second and charging at the van, smashing a hole right through it before the Chitauris could even soil their skirts in fright.
But Ray didn't think he was capable of getting them out of this without getting shot and at least one of them killed.
He chewed painfully on the inside of his check and only in the last moments before Ackley disappeared into the van, shouted the first thing he thought of, which was;
"Hey, this was your idea right? This is just the brick road paved with an escort, Dorothy!" He called this out in a silly way which he somehow thought would be reassuring.
Then he looked back at the bossy boots guy, smiling and sweating and squirming all the while, while he wondered how bad of a situation they were really in.
They'd said he was just 'a runaway'. They said he would just be punished for malingering and jaywalking (or whatever). They put three guards on him (three? Why three? Why not two? Why not four? Why not one? Why not a hundred?). In conclusion, they were also stupid, in Ray's opinion. Stupid people never made sense.
Honestly, Ray couldn't for the life of him tell.
So he just slung an arm over one of his Chitauri guard's shoulders (the poor thing, it didn't have a chance to react fast enough, not when he was so close and not with that gun) and confessed to it, as if it were just him and one of his pals after a night's under-age drinking;
"I was just so bo-o-ored you know, after working on those old Leviathan laser ablation panels for three weeks on end, I was in a stump, y'know? A slump, a lump, the dumps, a big fat speed bump!" He flicked the Chitauri's face in a familiar fashion. Then practically sobbed into their shoulder, clutching tightly. "You an artist, good sir? Then you, you know what I mean..." Followed by more sobbing.
Then Ray peeked to see if anyone was ready to shoot him. Because that was just a constant life hazard.

"Drrennngeto mraaaa trokenn!!!"

Aykay could just barely see Ray through the vehicle's open door, and she didn't dare try to get a better view with the Captain's gun still aimed in her general direction, but she could still hear enough to catch his random musings and the Chitauri leader's surprised but furious reaction.

Ray had said this was what she wanted... was it? What did she have to offer for Ethan's release? She wasn't a great planner... that was why Ethan was captain and not her. He was the one who used to guide her blind charges...

"You don't have much of a chance, you know..."

The captain was staring at her, his smug expression replaced with cold indifference.

"The princess requested that we take you straight to her. You shouldn't expect much in the way of mercy, Autumn."

Aykay felt numb... the princess? All faked confidence she had instantly drained out of her, leaving her pale and shaking. Her mind immediately returned to the prison tower and the fear she associated with it.

"Pathetic." laughed the captain. "What happened to you? What happened to that arrogant, headstrong time bomb? Now look at you! You can't even fight back! All you ever were was a mouse in a tiger skin! Take the tiger away and you're just a weak, pathetic little girl!"

He was right.

She looked down at her fragile human hands. She didn't have the necessary physical strength outside of her tiger form to fight him, even if he wasn't armed...

Her shoulder was badly damaged as well... she could never hope to best him...

"Hreeeetke nerrrrrr terrrato! Greett nre hyo!" He yelled to the chitauri outside to hurry and get Ray in the vehicle. Jessica was treated much better, being allowed to ride in a passenger seat, rather than in the back.

"You're going to pay for your betrayal, Miss Kapelle." we whispered as the chitauri rushed to comply with their orders. "And when they do punish you, I'll be there. You know how much it hurt when you left us all in order to fight us?"

She shook her head, unable to speak.

"You will."

~~~
Sylvia awaited on the sidewalk right outside the large gate. Soon enough, a pair of chitauri stopped in front of her with a large majestic steed. Once upon a time when she was much younger, she had genuinely felt self-conscious about having a mount while others didn't. It made her feel as if she had to be taken care of, and had no self-reliance, or that she simply just couldn't walk as far as the others. But now, she felt as if it was only right that she got treated the best. Not only that, her mount would let anyone that didn't already know who she was that she was a prominent figure to the empire.
With the help of a kneeling chitauri, she stepped on the creature's hands to get up on the horse. Out of habit, she rubbed the steed's ears, running her hand through it's long ardent mane. ¨Lets go.¨ she commanded. The horse neighed quietly, and shook its head as it took it's first step. The creature's gold hooves clicked noisily on the street, and the gems entwining it's mane glittered ominously in the dim light.
¨Stop.¨ she said suddenly. Perhaps it was out of contempt, or simply because she wanted to show Kita just how powerful she could become, but she did it none-the-less. It couldn't hurt to show the girl her side of the world.
¨Get another pair of mounts, humans are way too slow on feet and cannot manage for long.¨ The excuse fell from her tongue easily, and within minutes, two more horses were brought to the group. Though they were obviously not as spruced up as her's, their mane's still had a few valuable stones tied into their silky hairs.
¨Ready to go?¨ She questioned, motioning for the captain and the servant to mount up.
