@jane
The lab isn't empty. 😊
Kiara: Or... O.O ...Am I... invisible??? XD YAY *runs over and begins poking Sylvia* I'm invisible! You can't see me!!!

@2-dgorillaz

Kiara went through her paperwork while she waited. The only thing she'd left blank was her address. She had lived just above the aquarium before it closed down. Ever since, she'd been hopping from pokemon center to pokemon center on her way down here.

She let go of her magikarp with one arm to grab her pen. She wrote 'mobile' on the address line. Might as well put something down.

She glanced over it again and smiled to herself a little when she read the line 'owned pokemon' where she'd scribbled 'magikarp', followed by his registration number, which the aquarium director had given her. In all honesty, the dumb thing shouldn't even count...

Sirius smiled and looked at his lisense. He smiled widely, "Thank you!" He said and the hurried outside to let his new Vulpix out. He raced out the door, ignoring the people he passed and stepped back out into the fresh air. He breathed it in deeply and then stared at the Pokeball in his hand.

He tossed the Pokeball into the air and said, "Vulpix come on out!" The Pokeball opened while it was in the air and a white flash came out of it. As soon as the white disappeared Sirius was able to see his Vulpix.

It was just as he had imagined, a lovely red coat, large brown eyes, and seven tails that curled all together to maake a single large curl. He walked forward and got on one knee to pat it, his hand timid as he did in case the Vulpix didn't like it. It made a small sound and rub its head against Sirius's hand. Sirius smiled, "I think I'll call you Cinder." The Vulpix almost seemed to nod in agreement.

@2-dgorrilaz
Sorry, but could you please use a character of your own? I'm not really interested in this being a crossover roleplay.

@bunnyshadow @dada_dragon @jane @hedwig68

"Can I get your name?" the assistant asked Sylvia, staring at her as he began to type. "Last then first, please." Noah took his place in line behind Sylvia, glancing around the lab at his fellow new trainers. Lots of new trainers decided to travel in groups for safety; Team Aqua and Team Magma were still a dangerous presence in Hoenn. The last thing Noah wanted was for his brand new Pokemon to be stolen, so teaming up with one or more of these other kids wouldn't be a bad idea.

At the back of the lab, the professor jumped. Someone at the front had just screamed at the top of their lungs. "B-back here!" he called out, stepping out from behind some stacks of paper to be more visible. "Are you registering today?"

Despite the late time, kids were continuing to arrive. One of them was carrying a wriggling Magikarp in her arms. Professor Birch stared for a moment, trying not to grin. "Care to set your Pokemon down?"

Kiara rolled her eyes.

"Gladly." She told him. She set down her Magikarp on one of the tables and handed him her paperwork. She looked down at the flopping fish pokemon.

"What a piece of work you are..." she growled.

@silver_winged happy birthday. 😊

@dada_dragon Thank you! ^^ I'm sick as a dog right now, so I can't say I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. XD But that's all right. At least I get some time to rest.

Birch took her paperwork and glanced through it, nodding to himself as he read through each category. "Good, good," he murmured, handing the stack of papers back to her. "You can take that to my assistant back there. Are you registering this magikarp as your starter, or would you like a different one? I know that splash isn't exactly a battle-worthy move," he chuckled.

She took one look at the magikarp. Some of the assistants were giggling a little at his antics.

"No, I'm not registering him as my starter..." she sighed. "He was more of a favour to my old boss. No one else would take him..."

@silver_winged
That sucks. I was sick on my sixteenth... at band camp... on the day we got a bunch of free time... I feel your pain.

@dada_dragon
I can't talk at all. But roleplaying is fun, so I'm at least enjoying myself. ^^

"Well, you were smart to have taken him," Birch replied. He beckoned for her to stand by the large PC. "They don't look like much, but gyarados are a force to be reckoned with! You just have to stick with him for a while. Anyway, what kind of Pokemon were you thinking of for a starter? We're all out of the usual three."

Kiara looked at the list. It was way too much for her to look at, so she narrowed the searching field to water types. That list was much more manageable.

"How about..." she said scanning the list. Then one caught her attention. "Horsea. We had some back at the aquarium. They're really great to work with and they tend to be good-natured and are pretty easy to train... to do tricks that is. I haven't ever trained one to battle."

@silver_winged
Well that's good! RPing is pretty fantastic. 😊

@dada_dragon
"They are pretty good-natured as horsea," Birch agreed. "However, they can get a little testy as seadra. You know teenagers." Despite the fact that he was talking to a teenager, he chuckled and inputted his password. The Pokeball rolled out of the machine, coming to rest with a simple tap. "And here you go! Just give all this paperwork to one of my assistants and we'll get you your trainer card."

@dada_dragon
It certainly is. c: More fun than just sitting and doing nothing.

She nodded and grabbed the pokeball. She scooped up the magikarp and handed her paperwork to the closest assistant who took it and inputted the information into the computer, trying not to giggle at the magikarp. She handed her the trainer card.

"Pokemart, here I come..." she mumbled to herself.

She looked around at the other trainers in the room. It was a shock that she wasn't the only one this late...

Noah, having received his trainer card, tossed his brand new Pokeball up in the air to get a feel for it. The orange-sized orb landed squarely in his palm, and he grinned. Next to him, another girl had just received her own license. She had a Pokeball in one hand, and a flopping Magikarp in the other. He raised an eyebrow at the blank-eyed fish Pokemon.

"So," he began, "what Pokemon did you get?" Apart from the silly magikarp, she looked to be pretty capable. Potentially a traveling partner?

She pushed the button on the pokeball and out popped the Horsea. It looked pretty healthy and certainly more lively than the floppy magikarp...

"I'm into water pokemon." She said. "I used to work at an aquarium."

"Cool," Noah commented. He turned his own Pokeball over in his hand, his thumb hovering over the button. He was about to let it out when Birch's voice rang out again.

"Hey, kids! Not inside, please!" He was waving at them, trying to get their attention. "These Pokemon haven't had any training yet, so if you could please keep them outside!"

Noah turned back to Kiara and chuckled. "Oops," he commented. "Better go outside." He turned his bicycle around and approached the automatic sliding doors. Another assistant stopped him before he could leave.

"Here's your Pokedex," the woman said brightly, "to log your progress. Welcome to the world of Pokemon!" She handed one to Kiara as well.

Kiara pocketed the pokedex and returned the horsea to its pokeball, grabbing her magikarp.

"Thanks, professor." She called back as the door opened. "So what's your name?" She asked, waiting for him.

"Noah," he replied brightly, setting his bicycle on the outside wall of the lab. He wanted a few minutes to play with his new Pokemon before he got moving again. "And you are?"

While he waited for her answer, he raised his Pokeball. "Let's go, Electrike!" In a flash of white light, the small green Pokemon appeared on the grass. It eyed its trainer warily for a moment before dropping its nose to the grass and sniffing.

"Wow," Noah commented, dropping into a crouch to get a better look. "How cool!" He patted the Pokemon on the head once, but immediately, he felt like he'd been bitten. His whole arm buzzed with an electric shock, and he fell back on his rear.

The electrike looked just as startled as he did. It raised its hackles and opened its mouth to bare its sharp white fangs.

"Jeez," Noah muttered, rising to his feet. He took out the Pokedex from his pocket and clicked the button to open the screen.

"Electrike," it responded once in a mechanical female voice, "the Lightning Pokemon. Electrike stores electricity in its long body hair. This Pok?mon stimulates its leg muscles with electric charges. These jolts of power give its legs explosive acceleration performance."

"Oh," Noah muttered, rubbing his palm with his opposite thumb. "Maybe I should have done that earlier."

Kiara smiled as the electrike gave him a jolt.

"Kiara." She giggled. "Electric pokemon tend to be a bit tempermental..." she said.

She held out her hand to the electrike, who sniffed it before sitting down quietly. She pet him on the head, ignoring the jolt she got.

"You just have to get used to them."

@dada_dragon

"Nice to meet you," he mumbled through his wounded pride. Not wanting to get off on a bad foot with his first Pokemon, he crouched down again and held his hand in front of the electrike's head. It sniffed tentatively, wiggling its nose slightly. Then, Noah reached out and scratched it under its chin. The Pokemon lifted its head slightly, seeming to enjoy it.

"That's better," he said happily. "I think I just startled it."

He lifted the Pokedex again to read through the Pokemon's information. "Modest nature . . . oh, it's a girl." He glanced down at the electrike then back at the Pokedex. "Might as well give her a name." He continued to scratch his Pokemon under the chin while he thought.

"Want to let your horsea out?" he asked Kiara. "You can see what moves it knows."

She pushed the button on the pokeball again. The horsea popped out and happily jumped up and down on its tail.

"Probably just bubble and smokescreen." She said. "Pretty standard." The horsea chirped happily as if to confirm this. "Female also. I'll call you... Berry."

The horsea bounced around at this.

"I forgot how high-energy they are..." she said, amused.

"Aw, it's cute," he commented brightly. "That's a nice name. I think I'll call mine . . . well, I was going to call my first electric-type Watt, but this one's a girl. So what about Joule?"

The electrike blinked once.

"I like it. Joule it is."

She snuffled an exhale. Noah leaned down and scratched the top of her head. Like most electrikes, she had long, thick, silky fur. It stuck up slightly, charged with static, as he pulled his hand away.

"I would ask you to battle," Noah offered, "but that hardly seems fair with the type matchup."

She smiled.

"What a gentleman." She said. "That, and I wouldn't have a clue what i to do."

She looked over to see her horsea poking the magikarp with its nose. It seemed confused.

@dada_dragon Sorry, my internet disappeared for a few hours. Then I fell asleep. ^^;
-

"Battling is easy! At least, it is in the simulation games," he chuckled. "We could just have a little practice battle. It wouldn't count for anything, and I could walk you through it."

Joule lifted her head to stare at Noah. She didn't seem overly enthusiastic, but at the same time, she didn't seem disinterested.

"Go ahead and call forward one of your Pokemon," he suggested.

She looked at the horsea and then at the magikarp.

"Tough choice..." she laughed. "C'mon, horsea. Magikarp... you can watch... see if you can learn... anything, really..."

The blank stare she got back from the magikarp was not very reassuring...

The horsea however, just couldn't seem to wait to get started.

Ashley then walked into the room where Professer Birch was. "Am I late to get a starter Pokemon?" She asked curiously around the room.

Sirius saw a boy and a girl talking and he walked over, Cinder at his heels. He guessed that they were about to battle so he took a few steps back, "Electric-types has an advantage over water-types, the boy has a good advantage." He murmured to himself, "But sometimes advantages don't mean a thing, that horsea seems like a pretty good Pokemon. This is going to be good."

@dada_dragon @ashfire No separate rooms, he's just in the back.
@hedwig68

"So now that we're both ready, the first thing you do is order your Pokemon to use one of her moves," he instructed. "So, either bubble or smokescreen for your horsea."

Joule, appearing almost bored with the whole thing, lifted her left paw and smoothed down the fur with her tongue.

"Hey," Noah called down to her. "Look alive." The electrike blinked once deliberately, unamused.

"Not at all!" Professor Birch called to Ashley. "We're all out of torchic, treecko, and mudkip, though. If you wanted one of those, you'll have to come back next year."

Kiara nodded.

"Um... horsea, use smokescreen." she decided. The horsea spat out a cloud of inky black smoke, blocking it from view of the electrike.

She noticed another trainer watching and blushed. She was a bit embarrassed by her lack of battle knowledge.

Sirius watched the battle carefully. He noticed that the boy seemed to telling the girl about what to do so he guessed that she didn't know how a battle actually worked. He noticed a Magicarp sitting behind the girl and a glimmer of interest appeared in his eye. Even though he was more of a fire-type fan he had always been intruiged by Magicarps. They seemed so helpless at first, until they evolved then they were an epic and powerful Pokemon that could probably do some real damage on a lot of Pokemon.

@dada_dragon @hedwig68

"See?" Noah responded in an easygoing tone. "It's that easy. In a serious battle, both trainers command at the same time, and the faster Pokemon gets its move in first. But since we're just practicing, we can take turns like this. Joule, go ahead and use thunder wave."

Despite the partial haze of inky smoke, the electric type could still see well enough. Smokescreen was the kind of move that became more effective once it was used a couple of times. Joule crouched low to the ground, and that simple movement alone had blue sparks dancing around her body. With a sharp bark, she released the attack, and multiple streams of thin blue lightning arced toward the horsea.

"So there are three types of moves," Noah called above the ruckus. "Physical moves, special moves, and status moves. Both smokescreen and thunder wave are status moves, since they don't explicitly cause any damage. Bubble would be a special move, since it causes damage and it relies on the special attack skill. A move like pound or bite or mach punch would be a physical move, since it causes damage and it relies on the attack stat. You'll get used to it more as you battle more," he explained.

Kiara watched as the lightning hit her horsea. The horsea fell over, unable to move.

"Um..." she said, uncertain. "That's paralysis, right? What do I do if that happens?"

She glanced over at the boy watching again. It was making it difficult to focus on what she was doing.
