Pokemon Roleplay: New Trainers

"Yep," Noah confirmed, "that's paralysis. That status causes a reduction in speed and a chance of the Pokemon not being able to move for that turn. It's one of a couple different statuses, including burn, frozen, poison . . . I feel like I'm forgetting one. Anyway, if your Pokemon gets paralyzed, you can either give it an item which will heal the paralysis or keep battling. Usually the Pokemon will be able to at least get a few hits in."

Joule barked impatiently.

"Sorry," Noah said quickly. "Now we're going to use a physical move. Joule, go ahead and use tackle."

Seeming grateful for some action, the doglike Pokemon darted forward and smashed into the horsea with the weight of its body.

Kiara watched as the electrike struck her pokemon. She winced.

She was feeling pretty out of the loop. She could make a stubborn seel jump through a hoop, given enough time or teach a young wailmer to shoot up in the air and spray water into the splash zone... but with battling, she was a total newbie...

"Horsea, use bubble." She said. To her dismay, it didn't move. Paralyzed... right...

"How do you spell that?" the assistant asked Selena, glancing back at her. So far the day's names had been easy, but he wasn't confident he could get this one right on the first try.

Noah glanced over his shoulder as another voice came out of nowhere. It appeared their battle had a spectator. "Sleep," he confirmed. "Right. That's the one."

He stared down at the horsea as it failed to launch its next attack. A pang of guilt snuck up on him--maybe it wasn't nice to start with a status inducing move? However, there wasn't much he could do now, and a part of him would have been genuinely embarrassed had she managed to beat him easily in her first battle.

"Just keep trying," he encouraged. "Unless you have any paralyze heals or cheri berries, that's all you can do. Joule, tackle again."

Having retreated after her first attack, the electrike dove back in for another smashing blow.

Kiara shook her head as the second tackle hit.

"No I don't." She said. "Horsea, bubble."

This time, horsea managed to send out a stream of bubbles at the electrike. She smiled, a little relieved.

Sirius watched the battle intently. He never wanted to be a coordinater or go for gym badges, he'd always wanted to be a breeder, but he was still interested in this battle. He noticed that Cinder was lying down watching the battle in almost a bored manner, he sighed, Guess she isn't a fan of battling. He thoguht to himself as he watched her for a few moments.

Joule braced herself for the bubble attack, clenching her jaw and digging her sharp claws into the earth. The fast-moving bubbles popped against her electrically-charged fur, causing more of a slight tickling sensation than anything. She tilted her head back and sneezed once after a bubble popped against her nose.

"Water moves don't work very well against electric types," Noah explained with a slightly guilty tone. "Are you good with type matchups? If not, it might be worth it to invest in a chart or something. Anyway, Joule? Stand down."

The electrike glanced back at him, looking startled. "You heard me," he insisted. With a frustrated snuffle, she padded back toward her trainer and sat down at his feet sulkily.

"Had we been actually battling, our Pokemon would keep going until one of them fainted. The Pokemon that didn't faint would gain experience and become stronger. The Pokemon that did faint would have to be healed before it could battle again, either with an item or at a Pokemon Center," he explained. "But our practice battle is over. You did a good job for your first time! I'll walk with you to the Center in Oldale so you can heal your horsea, if you like."

She nodded, scooping up her magikarp and returning her horsea to its pokeball.

"I don't think I'm cut out for this whole battling thing." she admitted. "I'm much better at training pokemon to do tricks than teaching them to do battle..."

She glanced over to look at the other trainer. He was still standing there...

Noah glanced down at his own Pokeball and considered returning Joule, but ultimately decided against it. Walking with his new Pokemon would be a good way for them to bond, he figured.

"Don't feel bad. You just need some more practice, that's all," he reassured her with a warm smile. "Besides, if you really hate battling, you could always become a Pokemon breeder."

Kiara looked away for a moment, and he followed her gaze back to their spectator. Judging on that comment on the sleep status, he seemed to know what he was doing.

"Join us on a walk to Oldale?" he offered. "It's just a few minutes north. It's the only way out of town, anyway."

It took Sirius a minute to realize that they were speaking to him, "Um, sure, thanks." He said and he looked down at Cinder, "Come on." He then walked over to the other two. He looked at the girl, then the boy. "I'm Sirius." He said to to them both.

Kiara followed the two, her magikarp squirming in her arms. She pulled some food out of her pocket and fed it to him.

"Kiara." She said. "You sure seem to know a lot about battling."

"Noah," he responded to Sirius with a nod of his head before glancing back at Kiara. "I've been practice battling for years. I would have registered as a trainer the day I turned ten, but my mom wanted me to stay in school a little longer." He grimaced slightly, but the expression quickly morphed into an honest smile. He was far too excited to be bitter.

"So a vulpix, huh?" he asked Sirius, making an effort to include him in the conversation. "What made you pick a fire type?"

"Nice to meet you both," Sirius said and then shrugged, "I don't know much about battling myself, what I know is Pokemon. If I'm going to be the greatest Pokemon breeder ever I have to study up on Pokemkn and know a lot." He looked at Noah, "I am a fan of fire-types because they have a firey personality and are stubborn, so they aren't easily beaten. I really like the fact that they can be temperamental at times because that just makes them more interesting."

Kiara gripped the magikarp tightly.

"I used to work at an aquarium as a show coordinator... I trained new pokemon to jump and do tricks and cued the pokemon during shows. But it closed down recently. I didn't have to get my licence until now because technically, they weren't my pokemon. But when it closed, I got him."

She indicated the magikarp.

"So I had to get my license to keep him. So here I am."

As Sirius described his Pokemon expertise, Noah nodded his head. So this guy was an aspiring breeder--that was interesting. Hardly any breeders he'd met were all that interested in traveling. Additionally, a breeder would round out a traveling team pretty well; too many trainers and coordinators would just step on each other's toes. "Fair enough," he replied conversationally. He himself felt like stubborn Pokemon would only cause trouble, but then again, this guy didn't seem like he wanted to do a lot of battling.

"That's interesting," he then replied to Kiara, smiling at her slightly. "The one in Lilycove? I used to go there all the time when I was a kid."

Next to him, Joule trotted quickly to keep up. His long strides compared to her short legs forced her nearly to run. However, the electric type didn't seem to mind; if anything, she seemed to be enjoying the exercise.

Sirius nodded, "I went there oncce, about two years ago. I think I remember you," he said cocking his head slightly as he looked at Kiara. He now remembered why the girl had seemed so familiar, he must have seen her at the aquarium. He nodded at Noah slightly and said, "Yeah." He said and smiled as he watched Cinder.

The small fox-like Pokemon seemed to watching both the Magicarp and Joule curiously. She seemed to be studying them closely and Sirius wondered why.

Hair: Straight and dark brown.
Eyes: Dark brown/a muddy color
Clothes: Plain baggy T-shirt, often oversized; High waist jeans with ends tucked into lanky ankle lenght boots.
Other (appearance): Features of a Latina and tanned skin. Soft features. A pair of oversized starred headphones constantly hanging around her neck or covering her ears.
Other (general): Pronounciation - Equierra is pronounced as Ekierra, hence the Spanish roots of the name. The syllable "qui" is pronounced as "ki". This also means that "Equi" is pronounced as "Eki".
Trainer type (trainer, coordinator, breeder): Erm, trainer I guess ^^"

"That's the one. I mostly worked with the seels and the two gyarados... and I hatched this magikarp."

When Sirius mentioned he'd been to one of the shows, she blushed.

"One of my good shows... or did I mess up at all?"

Oops! It seems this rp has gotten a lot further! I am still in the lab, what should I be doing right now? @silver_winged I guess I will just continue where I left off. Please tell me if it doesn't make sense and I will edit.

After taking her time filling out the paperwork, Jane approached the professor.
"All done?" he asked, turning to her.
Jane nodded and handed over the papers. She really didn't see the point to all this but she would do anything to make her brother happy.
Professor Birch made quick work of importing her answers into the computer and then, with a smile, handed her a small liscense and a pokeball.
"Thank you!" Jane flashed a smile and left to find the other children and to show off her new pokemon.

"Exciting," he remarked. "So you've got some experience doing shows. Are you thinking of being a coordinator?" He was beginning to expect a yes, and it was disheartening. Up until now, he'd been visualizing the three of them as the perfect group of trainer-coordinator-breeder. Now he might have to start all over. If anything he'd made it easier for the two of them to run off without him.

Joule eventually noticed Cinder's staring gaze, and turned her head to stare back at the vulpix. Her own gaze was questioning and perhaps a bit standoffish, but not unfriendly. She barked out a small "trike" as a greeting to the fire type.

"Aveaux, Selena . . . yep, here you are. Let me just run this through the machine." With a few more taps of the keyboard, the printer next to him began to whirr and hum. Within a few moments, her brand new trainer card was ready, glinting under the fluorescent lights. "Okay," he said, handing it over to her. "All done. And let's get you a Pokedex." With a wave of his hand, he caught the attention of another lab assistant, who quickly returned with a small cardboard box. He fished out one of the red plastic devices and presented that to Selena as well.

"You're all set," he confirmed with a smile and a nod. "Good luck out there. You can reach the lab by PC or Pokenav if you have any questions."

Sirius grinned at the girl, "Don't worry, you did great." He said lightly and then looked at the boy, "You want to be a trainer right?" He asked Noah curiously, he wondered if maybe, just maybe, he had found some traveling companions.

Vulpix yipped excitedly and trotted a little closer to Joule. Her gaze was curious but friendly.
