"That's not funny...." Vladan murmured, more to himself than to Kita. He was beginning to get a raging headache, and what the man really wanted was to curl up into a ball and sleep. The man looked towards Kita, her yelling interrupting his musings. "Water...?" Vladan questioned her back. He struggled, but somehow made it to the doorway. "I... I don't remember."

"Nurse." The man said suddenly. "Nurse said... Water and medicine... And keep you warm." Vladan was starting to struggle to speak, and he wondered if his mouth was even forming his words properly. "You.. Sleep for..." He trailed off as he rubbed the back of his neck in an attempt to remember how long Kita had been passed out. It was several long moments of thinking before he decided on giving an answer that didn't require too much thinking.

"A long time."

Kita really didn't understand what he was going on about. She pulled the covers over her head indignantly.

"Come back when you can form a complete sentence."

She rolled over, facing away from him. She really did want to know what had transpired, but her anger outweighed her curiosity.

Somehow in Vladan's messed up head, his thought process decided that Kita's angry statement was a surefire go-ahead to continue his drunken binge. The man stepped out into the hall, forgetting to close the door as he trudged down the corridor. At first, he had begun to head back to the kitchen, but his eyes were drooping, and exhaustion began to take root inside his head.

He sat down in the middle of the hall, deciding that he would take a quick nap before heading back downstairs to finish off his drink. Vladan lay down on the floor, curling up into a ball to retain what little body heat he could on the cold linoleum, before dozing off.

As soon as Vladan left, Kita sat up. She wasn't very tired...

Slowly, she stepped down from the bed. Her legs felt like rubber, but she was relatively steady. She was starving...

Stepping out into the hall, she noticed Valadan, dead asleep. She rolled her eyes. Typical... She walked slowly down to the kitchen, grabbing a quick meal and tossing her dishes in the nearly full sink.

On her way back, she noticed the music room she'd seen on the first night. She approached it cautiously, trying not to wake Vladan. The violin was still there...

She drew the bow across the strings at first as a test, ensuring it was still tuned. It was perfect...

She played it, a sad, serious tune flowed from the instrument. It was the only music she really remembered. She had played the song many times before...

The sunlight streamed in through the windows set high up on the white walls. Vladan picked up one of the violins off it's glass stand. "I don't know much about these instruments, but this one looks nice." He glanced over at the saleswoman, arrogantly overlooking the despairing look he received from her due to his rough handling of the instrument. "How much is this one?" Vladan asked. "That one is around 3,500. It's carved wonderfully, and sounds just as beautiful as it looks." He turned to face Kirah. "What do you think, darling?" Vladan asked.

The man's lips tilted downwards into a frown. Kirah was relatively far away from him, down the aisle. He placed the violin he was handling back on the shelf, before venturing to her side. Vladan stared at Kirah, admiring how stunning she looked in her casual clothing. He couldn't help but wonder how he was lucky enough to have ever met her.

"I like this one, Vlad." The young man was knocked out of his evening musings at her melodious voice. "Why this one?" Vladan questioned. "Your skills are unmatched by anything I have ever seen, you deserve an instrument way better than this! This one is nothing special. Did you see the ones down there? You don't have to be so humble, pricing isn't a problem when you're with me, yo--" He was cut off due to Kirah latching onto his arm playfully. "But Vlaaaad!" She whined jokingly. "I want this one, not any of those fancy thousand dollar violins. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I had it. I'd be too afraid to play it!"

Vladan couldn't help but smile. "If you insist..." He trailed off with a heavy sigh. The young man just couldn't bring himself to turn her down, but he honestly preferred the one he was looking at before--it had magnificent gold engravings, and looked like it was worth a small fortune. All he wanted to do was spoil Kirah, but she always enjoyed the plain, simple things in life. It was already difficult enough to convince her to let him purchase a new violin for her, he was glad at least that she had decided to pick one instead of insisting him to stop pampering her. However, no matter how much Vladan complained, he couldn't help but love that about her.

"You better play me something when we get back." He muttered under his breath.

The trilling of a violin woke Vladan up from his slumber. His headache was beginning to subside, as if the music was nursing him back to health. He wandered down the hallway, peeking into the instrument room, where he saw Kita in the center of the wide space. The woman's fingers were decided yet delicate, dancing along the bridge of the instrument. However, the bow contrasted largely--her motions were drawn out and firm.

Vladan remembered the first time he had seen Kirah play the violin. He had entered her house without permission, even though she had lectured him many times that it was rude and she didn't like it when he did that. The music was beautiful, extravagant... glorious. He had never heard anything like it before. Kirah didn't play her music, she felt her music. "You're really good." Vladan blurted out idiotically. Kirah stopped mid note, dropping the violin onto the ground in surprise. The wood cracked with a loud bang, and guilt surged into Vladan's heart immediately. "I'm so sorry!" He had said, immediately offering to buy her a new one. "It's fine." Kirah had replied, but she was obviously upset. "Just--"

Vladan's memory was interrupted as Kita played an especially long note. It echoed throughout the room, and he could feel goosebumps begin to form on his skin. This song... One would have thought that he'd learn by now, but--

"You're really good!" Vladan shouted out before he could stop himself.

Kita jumped in surprise, interrupting her playing. She nearly lost her grip on the violin...

"Vladan?" She said, trying to recover from the surprise. "Don't sneak up on me like that."

She sat down in a chair. Playing was using up a lot of energy that she just didn't have. Maybe she had overstepped her limits a little.

"What do you want?" She asked, gauging how dangerous he currently was. It was difficult to tell with him; he could turn on a dime...

The man's eyes followed Kita as she made to sit down on the piano chair. Her blunt words knocked him out of his revelations. "Sorry." Vladan said apologetically. "I.... I like your music." He trailed off, stuttering awkwardly. "It sounds good."

"I want you to play me more." Vladan slowly made his way towards Kita. "I never learned how..." He trailed off. "Never got the time to and--" Vladan cut himself off.

"Kirah never got the chance to."

Kita hesitated. She was suspicious of his intentions, but he seemed genuine. Adjusting her posture in the seat, she raised the bow once again, a little uncomfortable at having an audience, and began to play.

===========

"Why didn't you tell me you played?"

Kita blushed, embarrassed at James' praise.

"I didn't think it would be good for my reputation." She admitted. "A street thug trained in classical violin? Would you take that seriously?"

James laughed. "No. I suppose not. Not if I didn't know you better than I do."

She blushed again, moving to set down the instrument.

"No, keep playing. I like that song. What is it?"

"I don't know." She admitted. "I was just playing."

"Talented and beautiful... I'm a lucky guy, now aren't I?"

Vladan sat down across from Kita, spreading himself out on the black leather sofa. He recognized this song... No... He knew this song--knew it almost by heart. The man shut his eyes tightly.

"It's one of the best songs I've ever heard you play." Vladan said. Kirah's laugh was immediate. He watched as she placed the violin back into it's case, spectating her as she toyed with the hair on the bow. "Vlad!" She giggled. "That's because it's also one of the hardest I've ever learned! It should sound like the best."

Vladan stared down at his feet, pouting shyly at the ground. "You should teach me how to play." He mumbled. The young man looked up when he felt her gentle arms wrap around his waist. "I'd love to!" Vladan smiled at her cheery reply.

"Not today though, I have to leave for a meeting now." He grabbed her hand gently, before lifting it up to his lips for a chivroulous kiss. "Next time, darling...." Vladan trailed off, as he turned to leave the room. He glanced over his shoulder towards Kirah. She looked disappointed, and he felt a pang of guilt. "What's the song called? I'll save it as my ringtone-- And everytime I hear it, I'll always think of you... No matter where I am."

"Tchaikovsky - Meditation de Souvenir d'un lieu cher." Vladan said out loud, opening his eyes as he did so. He immediately went quiet once again, hoping that Kita had finished the piece before he blurted out those words.

Kita lowered the bow.

"Yeah, actually..." She said, surprised. "I didn't really think you'd be into that kind of thing..."

She put it back in its case. Vladan was surprising, that was for sure... She was still uneasy around him, but she allowed herself to let her guard down a little.

"My parents figured music would make be a more well-rounded individual." She said. "I dunno if I believe that, considering how I turned out, but thirteen years of lessons don't dissappear overnight..."

"I'm not." Vladan protested. "Well.. I am." He confessed after a slight pause. "It's classical music, only fitting for a classy business man like me." Vladan added quickly. The man didn't want to admit that he listened to that sort of stuff. He watched as Kita placed the instrument back in it's container. "I..." Vladan trailed off, contemplating what he was about to say next, before just blurting it out swiftly, with barely any space in between the words.

"I think you are." He stuttered, before continuing. "Well, other than the fact that you tried to rob me, but yeah you're an overall very nice person..... When you aren't trying to hurt me or when you aren't yelling at me or anything like that." Vladan continued rambling.

"You have really soft hair." The man realized that he should have probably left it at that, but he couldn't stop himself. "And you like really nice when you're sleeping because your face doesn't get all angry at me. It's a lot prettier than when you're trying to win an argument against me even though you're always wrong." He wrung his hands nervously.

"I don't know how to play the violin." Vladan muttered. "My ex girlfriend--" He choked on his words. "Kirah.... She promised she would teach me, but..." The man cleared his throat, then attempted to wipe the tears beginning to form casually away with the back of his hand.

"We never got to it."

Kita didn't know how she felt about awkward Vladan... It was kind of weird, and he was obviously struggling to find the right words... And unsuccessfully at that... But it was also kind of...

"She let you keep her violin?" She asked. She would never give up her own violin... It was at home in her makeshift music room, which was actually Xavior's room.

Even before he'd died, she would practice in there. She liked the acoustics in there. He and James would sometimes sit on his bed and listen. Each had their own requests, and she'd sometimes learn contemporary songs to play for them, laughing as they'd try to sing along.

It was much quieter when she'd practice lately... She wasn't used to an audience.

"No." Vladan said stiffly. "She didn't." He stood up swiftly, and his words echoed loudly around the large room. Pinpricks of sound barged lightly against the wide glass windows set high in the wall. It was raining yet again, it had been raining a lot recently, as if the clouds and sky itself was mourning the re-exposure of long lost memories pulled up from the void of forgotten thoughts.

"I bought it for her, and I'd thought to keep it when she'd gone..." Vladan didn't care what Kita would think of his not-so-brilliant choice of words. The woman would probably guess that he'd stolen it back from Kirah or selfishly asked for it back, but he decided to leave it at that. He sat back down dropping his head in his hands, before letting out a heavy sigh.

"I wanted something as a memento at least." He muttered to himself. "It's a shame that our relationship failed to last."

"It's a shame that you had to drag her into your life.... Kirah didn't deserve to die the way she did--and it's your own fault only that she passed away."

Vladan shook his head stressfully as angry fighting was dredged up from his jar of memories. He balled his right hand into a fist.

"She was everything I had ever strived to be. Nice and kind... Beautiful. Loving. Friendly." Vladan felt the woman's finger jab into the center of his chest. "You were everything she wasn't. Dirty, trashy, filthy... I don't understand why she would ever date a fool like you." The woman had slapped Vladan, but he stood still and silently took the brunt of the blow. He couldn't bring himself to fight back--not somebody that had been there for Kirah when he couldn't be--not her best friend. "You're right, Selena." Vladan muttered. The woman let out a angry scream, and he let out a grunt as he took the brunt of a large textbook that Selena had thrown at his chest. He couldn't fight back.

Not here. Not now.

Not ever.

Not because he cared, but because she was right.

"My apologies, Kita. I have work to attend to." He made to stand. His work was going to involve a bottle of jack and more empty bottles crashing into walls and onto the ground.

Kita knew those eyes. James had those same eyes when he'd told her about Xavior... His words were evasive, but...

"I'm sorry." she said. "I know what it's like..."

She wanted to look him in the eye, but she couldn't bring herself to do it.

"I lost a close friend... He was a member of my old gan- group." she corrected quickly. "He was killed in prison... some riot... they never found out who was responsible... maybe it was more than just one person, but... I didn't even feel angry about it... I just felt hollow..."

She crossed her arms to hide the shaking.

"He was a good guy... a real thug, but he was secretly into music production. He always said he'd get out of the hole we were living in, but..." she choked on her words... she'd never told anyone about this. "He never did. And it was my fault."

Vladan collapsed back down into his seat. He put his elbows on his knees, rubbing his eyes as he did so. Kita's last words hit him hard--they felt like a punch in the gut.

"It was my fault." Vladan whispered. It was raining, but he hadn't bothered to bring an umbrella. The man was holding a large bouquet of bright red roses--they stood out significantly against the green grass. He had made sure that Kirah's grave was to be as good as he could make it.

Vladan knelt down in front of the headstone, the dirt from the grass seeping through his pants leg and onto his skin. "I'm sorry." He had said. "In the end, it was my fault after all." The man had long run out of tears, and he placed the flowers down. Even though he had known it all along, it still hurt when Selena said it.

"You killed her, Vladan."

"Yes." He admitted bluntly "I did."

Vladan stood up and closed his eyes, allowing the cold rain to run down his back. When he next opened them, it was as if the water had washed away the person he had changed into ever since he had met Kirah.

"I'll kill them." Vladan whispered frigidly. "I'll kill them all."

"Care for a drink?" The man asked, standing as he did so.

Vladan stared at the outstretched violin speechlessly. Out of all the things that could have happened, he certainly didn't expect this. "Yes." The man finally was able to force out. "I..." Kita stood up, still a bit shaky, but determined to keep Vladan away from the kitchen. She adjusted his grip and showed him how to hold the bow.

"Now just draw it against the strings." She explained. "It's going to sound awful, but just get a feel for it."

=========

"I can't do it."

Kita pushed the bow back towards James. Xavior laughed.

"You're more afraid of that than the four guys you beat down yesterday." He teased. James' ears turned red. "I really should record your playing. Maybe we sound use it as a makeshift security. They won't want to come anywhere close."

"I'm sorry Kita... It's just not my thing." James said apologetically.

Vladan pushed the bow against the strings, and a screeching sound ensued as he dragged it downwards. His eyebrows immediately furrowed with annoyance as he frowned angrily. He went silent, not knowing what to say. Vladan was used to being good at everything, and he attempted to hide his blush by turning away from Kita. Even his own arrogance couldn't save him now.

"This doesn't sound right." He muttered, embarrassed at his complete and utter failure at handling the instrument. "I'm better than this, I swear." Vladan attempted to explain.

"I told you it would sound awful. It doesn't matter how good you think you are. No one sounds good the first time." she explained. "I've seen worse, if that helps... James broke a string the first time he-."

She stopped herself. She didn't need to think about him right now.

"Try to be a little lighter on the strings. And this time, angle the bow so you only drag it against this one." she instructed.

This time, he attempted to give it a softer approach, angling the bow against the string Kita had pointed out. The note that came out was high pitched, but clear--a bit wobbly, but understandable. Vladan, excited at his success, ended the sound abruptly by accidentally dragging the bow into the bridge of the violin, resulting in another sort of bat screech noise similar to the one from earlier.

"Did you hear that?" He asked excitedly. "Well..." Vladan trailed off, in an attempt to contain his exhilaration. The man cleared his throat. "The first part, not the second one." He said in an effort to sound much more calm.

"Yup. Now try this..."

Over the next hour, Kita taught him. He was an eager learner. A bit impatient, and he got angry when he messed up, but by the end of it, he was able to play a very warbly 'Mary had a Little Lamb'.

"Good job." She said, after an almost successful attempt. "Now..."

Her head reeled. She took a second to steady herself.

"I'm sorry... I should go lie down."

Who was this new Vladan?

Vladan exited the room before he slowly started down the hallway. The man hesitated at the base of the stairs, pausing as he struggled to remember whatever he could. What little he probably could have dredged up had been lost over the past few days during his drunken binge. "I..." He trailed off as he took the first step up. "I don't know." Vladan finished as he continued on his way.

"When I woke up, you were out cold." He stated truthfully. "Everyone else had gone when I came too." Vladan attempted at names, but found that he couldn't remember any, either. "What a shame..." The man mumbled to himself. "The wolf-girl... And the two other woman."

"I don't know where they are."

"You..." Vladan couldn't believe his ears. "Keep that to yourself." He snapped. "I just had a good day, that's all." The man went silent, mulling over Kita's words. It was strange really, he couldn't help but slightly agree that he was being a lot kinder than he was usually. He didn't know what it was, but he assumed it was just the enjoyment of actually having somebody as company.

"I think I could get in touch with her." Vladan mumbled, breaking the silence as he reached the top of the staircase. "I've had people work with her before." The man opened the door with a bit of trouble due to Kita's weight. He entered the room, stopping by the edge of the bed, before kneeling slightly so that Kita could get off. Vladan bit his lip, considering what he said next, before finally actually repeating it aloud.

"I..." He trailed off. "I wouldn't have anything to do with her if I were you." Vladan paused. "She seems virtuous, a vigilante almost, but there's something about her that just throws me off..."

Kita climbed down, laying back in the bed.

Kita nodded. "Yeah... I kinda picked up on that..." she said. "Something about her... She was sweet, but... there's a darkness there... and she can't control it... She was scared."

She propped herself up on the pillows.

"I've seen plenty of powers... I don't pretend to understand most of them, but I've used a few... and they aren't always a blessing." she said. "There are powers I refuse to mimic. I couldn't handle them for the three minutes; I can't imagine how people live their whole lives with them."

Vladan sat down on the edge of the bed as Kita spoke. He listened patiently, deep in thought as he mulled over what the woman was saying. The man cracked his knuckles out of habit, speaking slowly as he did so. “Many people are born under different circumstances.” He said, before pausing as he decided on his next words. “Some are luckier than others. However, at one point in time, most if not all--people have wished upon a star to be placed elsewhere in the world, whether it be in someone else’s shoes, or be an entirely new person in general.” The man absentmindedly drew spherical shapes on the surface of the bed. “Speaking of circumstance, I feel as if us ‘enabled’ folks… We were not simply just at the right place at the right time. It is my belief that we were chosen.” Vladan was beginning to struggle to voice his opinion, it was something he just wasn’t able to explain to others. He finally spoke, after wording, and rewording, and rewording the statement in his head a multitude of times. “Our powers weren’t randomized, Kita. They were chosen. By us.”

Vladan pulled at a loose thread on the blanket, before changing the subject entirely. “I suppose that I am correct to assume that somewhere along the line, I’m sure you’ve using your abilities for something you certainly aren’t proud of.”

“I can say the same for myself.” Vladan admitted. “But yet, I still continue to do it. There are times when I wonder about the things I do, and why I do them. But I can’t bring myself to change, whether it’s out of faith to those I’ve sworn oath to, or because in my heart…” He trailed off now, letting off a deep chuckle. “And yes, I do have a heart--” Vladan paused now, before continuing onwards. “Because in my heart, I am afraid of what I have become, but even more terrified of what I would become if I were to revise my life.”

“I used to want to be a hero. I wanted to be looked up to, respected, revered, admired… But being noble, virtuous, honorable--just isn’t my flng.”

“I know I’m not a good person. In fact, I know that I am far from a good person. I admit that I have cruel and sadistic tendencies, I am aware of everything of malicious intent that I do, but I figured that it was just my role in this world to play the villain in the plot of this lifetime.” Vladan smiled now, though it was bitter. “It’s a lot easier to follow your instincts rather than to struggle to be something you aren’t.”

"I'm sure Miss Zinciri has a reason for being the person she is today."

"I'm tired of being a villain." She said limping towards willow. "Tired of the police chasing me, tired of almost going to jail, and i'm tired of being hated by heroes. I need your help to become a hero."

She said looking at willow with a needing look. "please can you help me" she begged. Skyler turned towards the door. "I need help with my ankle before something bad happens to it. Follow me if you'll help me." She limped slowly towards the door.
