"I can understand that..." she said. "I'm no hero either. By all accounts, I should be in prison right now... I would be, if someone hadn't been there for me..."

She took a deep breath, pushing back the emotion she was feeling. Why was she being so open with him? Was it that she was seeing herself?

"The world wasn't kind to people like me." she continued. "But I certainly wasn't helping my own problem... And honestly I had no good reason to become what I was... I had a perfectly good life... I just thought that I was invincible."

"This power is unlike anything I've seen... and I've seen a lot of powers. I started thinking I was special... I could do literally anything, given the opportunity, and with my... friend... I never had to worry about being hurt... he could just patch me back up..."

"Then one night... Everything just came crashing down on me... Everything I knew just... disappeared. I had nothing but a crappy apartment and two friends in prison... the only one that got away was me."

"Life isn't fair..." she said, aware that she'd been ranting. "But if I don't do anything about it, I'm just contributing to the problem. I never want anyone to have to deal with what we did..."

Vladan could feel his heart clench when he spoke out next. He turned his head sideways, so he could look Kita in the eyes. "Prison?" The man questioned hesitantly. "I..." Vladan sighed, puzzled that he was even considering the inquiry he was about to ask Kita. "Do you..." He trailed off, now knowing how to word it.

"Kita." Vladan attempted again. "Would you want me to...." He sighed awkwardly, as he ran his hand through his hair. "I can--" The man was cut off by the ringing of his cell phone. Vladan gave Kita a weak attempt at an apologetic smile, before he picked up the call.

The man ventured out of the room as he listened to the voice on the other end. "Sounds great." Vladan agreed, before hanging up. "My apologies, but I'm going to have to cut our conversation short. I have business to attend to." He gave Kita a half-hearted shrug, before pulling his fingers to his lips to do a low whistle.

"Er... My dogs can happily watch you while I'm gone. I'm sure nothing too terrible will happen to you until I'm back. Odilia is prowling the yards as well, so your safety is almost guaranteed." Vladan paused before adding one last thing.

"If you find yourself on an empty stomach, you can make yourself something in the kitchen, but...The room is a bit messy." He mentioned, thinking back to all the broken glass and shattered bottles littering the ground.

"I'm sorry. I've already done more than my fair share of helping others these past few days." Willow replied, albeit a bit hesitantly. "It isn't my job to coach you in your way of life, I'm afraid you're on your own for this one." She turned away from the girl. "I just... Need some time to myself for a few days. Just, give me a bit. You need to figure out by yourself, how you want to change." The woman gave a halfhearted salute to Skyler, before dashing away.

"Ok" Skyler says as she dashes off. Skyler turns back towards to door, and limps towards it. Skyler spots Odilia coming towards her. "Woah girl" She puts her hands in front of her, trying to keep her from coming closer. "It's ok, i just need help with my ankle. I'm not going to harm Kita or that guy." She looks around for a way to escape the lion.

Kita waited patiently for Vladan to complete the call. She wondered who he was talking to, but dismissed it as some business call, so she didn't listen too closely.

She was, however, curious to know what he had been trying to say before. Whatever it was, he was tripping over his words, so it must have been difficult to articulate, which only made her more curious.

It had been several days after the incident, bordering almost an entire week. Willow stared at her ringing phone, watching as it slowly moved in place due to the vibrations. The woman reached for the device, gazing at the name on her phone. She bit her lip, before declining the call. It hadn't been the first time that week she hadn't picked up the phone when her assistants called. Willow flipped on the silent mode on her phone, before placing it face down in the table. She curled up in bed, pulling the covers over her head.

Even though she had only known Kita for several hours, the woman seemed to have earned a place in her heart. Willow couldn't figure out why, but assumed it was because Kita just seemed so... There wasn't a word for it. Although Willow had felt rejuvenated after draining Vladan's life, guilt had peppered her every day activities since she had left the man's home. Kita's words had certainly stuck, but probably not in the way that she would have hoped.

Willow wondered fleetingly at how Kita willingly gave up so much of a part of herself just to replenish the life of someone that didn't even have the right to continue on living in this world. The woman bit her lip, before sitting up on her bed, a decision having been made in her head. She dialed the number of her assistant, before speaking silently into the phone.

"I'm going to stop working for several weeks." Willow stated quietly over the phone. "I owe a favor to somebody, and I'd like to pay them back in full." The woman ended the call, before reaching into her closet and get dressed. It was night, and there would certainly be many lonely Enabled roaming the streets.

"I'll give you back everything that you have lost to save his life." Willow whispered to herself.

Kita opened the refridgerator. There was very little to work with, but she was sure she could conjure up something. She salvaged what she could, throwing out old milk, cheese, and expensive, but rancid leftovers. She had much more luck in the pantry, where the food was mostly unperishable...

She heated up the stove and began making pasta. It wasn't exactly restaurant-quality, but it would pass.

Vladan was still asleep, at the very least in his own room rather than on the kitchen table. She wasn't sure if he'd been drinking or if he was just exhausted, but it was nearly noon...

He would be annoyed that she had left her bed before a doctor came to confirm what Kita already knew - she was feeling much better. But she didn't care. She was hungry, and she was sure that whenever he decided to get up, he would be too.

There was a ringing in his ears. Slowly, he was brought out of the comforting embrace of sleep by the loud chiming coming from his phone. Vladan struggled in his bed, the warmth of his pile of blankets was a simple solace from his everyday life and he enjoyed his sleep more thoroughly than probably any other person. "Nooooooo......" The man mumbled drowsily as he pulled his covers over his tussled hair. His phone continued to ring, and Vladan slapped his bedside table in annoyance, feeling around the surface for the irritating device. Finally, he managed to wrap his hand around the phone. The man opened one eye to stare at the caller ID, took a second to calculate how important this call was going to be, before rejecting it.

"Ah..." He muttered as he snuggled back into his bed. Vladan had barely drifted off to sleep when the phone started ringing once again. With a heavy sigh, he forced himself up. "Hello?" The man said angrily as he stood up. He listened as he quickly pulled on a shirt. Vladan rubbed his eyes as he ventured downstairs. He had been excruciatingly busy for the past 2 weeks, and had been sleep deprived more often than not. No doubt, there were dark circles under his stormy eyes.

"I was in a me--" Vladan cut himself off, momentarily distracted by some sort of delicious scent in the air and he journeyed into the kitchen to find Kita besides the stove... Cooking? He pulled the phone away from his ear, placing his hand over it as he said loudly to the woman.

"Shouldn't you still be in bed?" The man questioned with a condescending air. Unless Vladan could get a share of the meal, and depending on how delicious the food was, would decide his level of irritation, considering how he had just been woken up from his slumber as well.

He raised an eyebrow impatiently for Kita's response, before remembering that someone had been waiting for him on the other end of the line. "What were you saying again?" He mumbled into the phone.

"Well I wasn't about to starve while you slept in." She said, ignoring that he'd gone back to the phone call, assuming he was only half listening to it as usual. "There's a plate on the table for you. Sauce will be ready in two minutes, if you'd prefer to wait for it rather than eating the pasta plain."

She stirred the sauce. If he didn't like it, that was his problem. He was pretty picky...

"Also, you're out of milk... And a few other things." She said, eyeing the full trash can. "Don't you ever clean out your fridge?" Then remembering who she was talking to, added, "Or have someone to do it for you?"

Vladan rolled his eyes at Kita as she continued to nag at him. He sat down at the end of the table, poking the pasta with his fork as he waited impatiently for the woman to finish cooking the sauce. The man's stomach growled, and he decided to taste the food. Vladan lifted the noodles to his mouth, before frowning and slamming it back into the bowl.

"Excuse me?" He said angrily over the phone, voice dripping with the beginnings of a temper tantrum. "We agreed weeks ago that I was to receive everything today. So help me, if I don't see it by midnight tonight, I will ruin your life. I'm sure you can manage to slip past my grasp, but I'll have you know I can make-do what I was to you, to your family and what sad little group of friends you have instead." Vladan pulled the device away from his voice, hanging the call up before the man on the other end could reply.

He slammed the phone on the table, before resting his forehead against the cold marble surface.

Kita set the sauce down, ignoring his tantrum. As much as his attitude had improved, he was still a selfish, arrogant twit. She was getting used to it.

"I find that threatening people's families usually is a poor business practice." She said calmly. Vladan would hate it, but she enjoyed getting a rise out of him. "Speaking from personal experience, of course. Eat your lunch."

She sat down across from him, digging into her own meal.

"You don't have to waste your time calling in a doctor, by the way. I'm fine. I haven't felt dizzy at all in the last 24 hours and I can walk around with no problem." She said. "No sense calling someone in to tell you the exact same thing."

"If you insist." Vladan muttered, agreeing only because he honestly didn't want to deal with any more people for the rest of the day. He jabbed his fork into the pasta angrily as he ate. However irritated he was before he started consuming Kita's food, it was easily squashed by how unexpectedly delicious it was.

The man swallowed his current bite of food, before opening his mouth to speak. "Later on today..." He trailed off as he considered his next words carefully. "Do you think you could pick something up for me at the door? I have an old friend coming by with a package, but the delivery time conflicts with a business party."

Kita hesitated. Judging by the phone conversation, "old friend" was likely a loose term. "Business party" likely was too, for that matter.

"Fine." She said. Worst came to worst, she could probably convince Odilia to come to her aid. The lioness still made her a bit nervous, but she trusted her far more than Vladan's idiot dogs. "Keep the drinking to a minimum. I'm not going to pick you up. So unless you want to walk home, behave yourself."

Kita finished off the last of her meal and loaded her dishes into the washer. She left for the music room. She had to take advantage of Vladan leaving... Ever since she'd begun teaching him, he'd been hogging the violin...

She kept the door open so that she could hear the doorbell when Vladan's "old friend" arrived, and began playing.

Later that evening, Vladan exited the house with nothing other than a few pats on the head to his ferocious puppies. He led them outdoors, before heading on his way. With a heavy sigh, he started up his car. It was a shame that especially on a night like this, he had to bail somebody out of prison. The drive didn't take long, especially since the man heeded no speed limit signs. He was greeted by a tall metal gate when he arrived at the prison--it was no surprise, considering how they only kept Enabled criminals here. In the beginning, the government had put the gifted with the regular thugs and such, but it had ended badly.

He greeted the secretary outside with a thin smile, before being encountered the building manager. They spoke in hushed tones, but Vladan was eventually led into the holding rooms, and soon enough down a long gray corridor. The man glanced down condescendingly at most, if not all of the prisoners as he meandered down the hall, casually stopping besides each individual holding cell, examining the thoughts of the prisoner's with ease. Through this slow process, he managed to glean several felon's powers from just their everyday thoughts.

Vladan stopped in front of one of the cells, peering past whatever strong transparent metal was used to build the walls. A man sat by the wall, leaning against the surface as he rubbed a hand over a gash on his arm. Judging from his condition, the man had probably been involved in a prison fight. Vladan was about to leave, the man didn't seem to want to look up anytime soon, so there was no way of him to read his thoughts anyway. He turned halfway, but not before giving one last glance down at the man.

Vladan stopped, before turning full on back. "A healer?" He asked wondrously to the guard several feet away from him. The bloody wound was repaired within seconds, and Vladan knocked rudely on the glass. The prisoner stared up at him, and he managed to catch the healer's amber gaze. However, the man had looked away before Vladan could glean any information other than a statement about how he should try to stay out of any more fights that occurred.

"Your woman is over here." Vladan was knocked out of his revelations as he hurried down the hallway towards where the guard stood. "Thank you." He muttered. Inside was a thin feminine figure, curvy and tall with unusually straight blonde hair.

The cell was opened, and the woman remained inside, though a bright smile had appeared on her face. She pointed at her neck, where a metal shock collar had been placed. It wasn't a surprise, teleportation was an increasingly common power for criminals, and they had to force the delinquents to stay in the prison somehow. The guard unlocked the collar, and the woman disappeared subsequently before reappearing by Vladan's side.

"We're going." He said before heading down the gloomy corridor. "This is the last time I'm pulling you out,Dawn." Vladan muttered towards the woman.

She grabbed his arm and laughed. "I'll try my best to not get caught next time."

Vladan shook her off forcefully. "It costs me a fortune every time." He glanced over to the left, throwing one last curious look at the cell that had contained the healer, before exiting with Dawn by his side, and the guard trailing behind.

I'll come back for you later... Vladan thought to himself, imagining all the situations he could easily get through with a healer standing guard by his side.

-

The thin man rang the doorbell to Vladan's mansion. He waited impatiently for the huge double-doors to be opened, shifting the briefcase from his right to his left hand. His hair was slightly out of place due to the windy atmosphere, and the man glanced over his shoulder fearfully at the two dogs glaring ominously at him. It was dark. Night had fallen not too long before he had arrived. He had shown up an hour later than he had promised, and hoped to himself that he wouldn't be mistreated or harmed in anyway shape or form because he had not arrived on time.

Kita opened the door, still wearing an apron. She'd been cooking dinner and she hadn't thought to remove it. The man was not what she was expecting. He was thin and skittish, and was holding a briefcase somewhat awkwardly.

"That must be the package Vladan was talking about." She said, holding out her hand. "He told me to expect you. I'll take it for him."

She tried to hurry things along, anxious to get back into the kitchen to prevent the vegetables from burning, and was a little distracted.

The man, obviously surprised that a woman had answered the door, nearly jumped back. Well... He wasn't surprised that it was a woman, and was probably just taken aback by how she looked nowhere near any of the one-night woman he had often seen around. He made to hand it to the briefcase over to her, but one of the large dogs barked, and the man dropped the case onto the floor.

It split open like an egg, and the contents spilled across the doorway. Stacks of hundred dollar bills piled on the ground, and the man backed away with in embarrassment.

"I'm sorry." He apologized as he knelt down to pick up the money and replace it in the briefcase.

Kita glared at the dogs signalling them to leave with a short, sharp, which they hastily obeyed. She'd learned that trick from Vladan.

She turned to see the man picking up stacks of bills from the fallen suitcase and putting them back in the container. Her suspicions were correct... This was likely less than legal.

She took an involuntary step backward. That was a lot of money... What had he done to get this...?

Kita hesitantly took the briefcase. It was quite heavy. She couldn't really blame the man for dropping it. What on earth was all this money for?

Suddenly remembering her vegetables on the stove, she offered a rushed apology, then closed the double doors abruptly.

Setting the briefcase down on the table, she quickly pulled the vegetables off the heat. Most were fine, and she transferred them into a serving bowl, removing the charred ones. She opened the oven to check the salmon fillets, which were also thankfully intact.

Vladan unlocked his front door. The second he entered the house, one of the most wonderful smells ever assaulted his noise. "Kita?" He called out, venturing towards the kitchen with Dawn at his heels. Before he entered the room, he spoke in a low voice towards the blonde by his side.

"Don't do or say anything stupid." He mumbled, before stepping into the kitchen. "I'd like to introduce you to a close friend of mine. Her name is Dawn, and she'll be staying here tonight."

Dawn waved her hands half heartedly, rolling her eyes dramatically.

"Well I'm glad I cooked extra then. I was going to eat the leftovers for lunch tomorrow, but I'll just split it three ways." She said. "So what's your power?"

She had picked up on the girl's energy when they walked in. The girl was definitely enabled.

"So how was your..." She shot a sideways glance at Dawn, "Business party?"

Kita nodded and began eating her dinner in silence. She had taken a small portion. She was feeling much better, but her appetite was still quite low...

She wished she knew what had happened to her... Even the doctors Vladan had forced her to endure had no clue what had caused it. One had said that by all means, she should be perfectly healthy. Vladan had fired that doctor within half an hour of his arrival.

Only Willow would know... Vladan did agree with her on this point, but had yet to contact her. She couldn't tell if he was too busy, or he just didn't want to, but she suspected it was the latter.

The last few nights, she'd woken suddenly after a frightening dream. She didn't remember much afterwards, except for an image of Vladan on the ground and pain... intense pain. It was disconcerting to say the least, but...

"Kita? Are you guys awake?"

Kita looked towards the door to see the girl that had given her a ride to the motel. She raised her eyebrow, trying to remember her name.
