James met up with Willow minutes later with a couple of bags. He held out a small flip phone.

"Here... Use this if you need to call anyone. Vladan said this model makes for good burner phones." He said. "We've got a ride in about ten minutes to where we're going. I'm gonna warn you, she's a bit... interesting."

Kita heard the knocking and went to the door. Three men stood there, two of them with hands on a taser, ready to wield them if necessary.

"Miss Altobelli?"

She nodded. "Yeah."

"You're under arrest for-"

"Being suspected of being enabled." She said nonchalantly. "Yeah. I know. I'm ready."

They seemed surprised by her willingness. It probably wasn't often they got a peaceful surrender. The two men looked to the third man, who simply nodded and they handcuffed her, walking her down the hallway.

She could see her neighbours peeking out their windows as she was guided into the back of the vehicle. She didn't care. Most of them probably knew of or suspected her past criminal activity, so they likely wouldn't be surprised...

They closed the back of the vehicle and she was left alone with her thoughts.

Willow let out a small breath, taking the phone from James. Everything seemed so surreal. Just one day ago she had been lounging around in the comfort of Vladan's multi-million dollar mansion.

"I'm scared." Willow admitted shyly. "I've never run away from the law. Never broken any rules. Always tried my best to stay as far away from the bad as possible."

James nodded. "Yeah, me too, but you need to do what you need to do to survive sometimes..."

The conversation was interrupted when a car pulled up, loud music blaring. The window rolled down to reveal two people, a man with gratuitous amounts of tattoos and a nervous smile, and a woman with a pixie cut and a wide, cocky grin.

"Heeeey, Nurse!!!! How's it been?" Yelled the woman. "Haven't seen you in a dog's age, pal!"

"I told you not to call me that." He said, rolling his eyes. "Willow, this is Maxine and Jeremy, otherwise known as Coco and Sparks. They're..."

"Part of your old gang, ya?" Laughed Coco. "Thought you wanted nothing to do with us!"

"I never said that..." He said, not making eye contact.

"I know, man. No worries! We totally get it. I was only messing with ya! Climb on in!"

Kita was not a fan of being strapped down, but she didn't struggle as they took blood and checked her over while a man in a lab coat asked her questions.

"Your power?"

"I can sense energy... especially in enabled people. For the most part, I can identify their power as well... depends if I recognize it."

"So you could tell me if someone in this room is enabled?"

She closed her eyes.

"No one in here is, but I'm guessing you're keeping captured enabled in the room directly below us, because I sense a lot of them down there."

"So your ability isn't hindered by walls?"

"Walls reduce my range, but only slightly."

"Do you use your power often?"

"I can't turn it off. I just ignore it most of the time."

He was writing everything down, and she wondered what kind of notes he was taking...

"And the other two you were with... What were their powers?"

"I guess you'll have to ask them yourself." She said, a crooked grin on her face. "I only tell my own story."

"Oh...yeah okay." Willow said awkwardly as she got in the car. The woman definitely wasn't used to being around people like this. She was conservative and quiet, albeit a bit friendly, and the noisiest people she'd been in contact with were probably Dawn or Vladan. Even then, the two of them mostly kept to themselves.

"Thank you." She tried calling out past the blaring music.

James' knuckles were white as Coco drove... Her driving caused him more anxiety than Xavior's....

"Maxine, can you please chill...? James looks like he's about to have a heart attack back there." Sparks said, glancing at the back seat. He reached over and turned down the music.

"Hey boy! I was was listening to that!" She said, reaching over to turn it back up, but he smacked her hand away. "Hey! It ain't nice to hit a girl, Sparks."

"We've got passengers. Try and tone it down."

She grumbled, but slowed down significantly.

"To tell ya the truth, James, when you said you needed a ride for you and a friend, I thought you meant Kita and you were just being coy about it." She said. "How's her arm doin'?"

Both Sparks and James shifted uncomfortably at this....

"Here's your dinner, miss."

Kita didn't look up, but simply nodded and gestured at the small bedside table next to her. The man set it down and left and she sighed, standing up.

Her cheeks were wet and her eyes were puffy... this truly was her best option, and yet... She had said some terrible things to convince James to do what was best for him...

She cared very deeply about him... and that was why she couldn't let him come here... He never thought of himself... it was why she liked him so much, but... She couldn't let him protect her... not this time.

She took a few small bites, but left most of her plate untouched. She wasn't feeling very hungry.

Willow visibly relaxed as the music was turned down and the car's speed was slowed to a reasonable number. She perked up a little at the mention of Kita, but then realized what the woman was asking.

"Better." Willow said quietly. "A bit..." She trailed off. "Kita won't let me fix it."

---

One guard stood watch, weapon prepared in case Vladan tried anything. The other two were unlocking his restraints warily. He sat up. Vladan lifted up his left arm, rubbing his wrist with his right. The guard on his right jumped back, and Vladan couldn't help but let out a small bark of laughter.

"Don't worry, I won't hurt you..." He trailed off, looking the man up and down. The guard's arm was bandaged, and he could see blood still splotching the material. "Yet." Vladan muttered under his breath. Though his word was quiet, it probably weren't quiet enough, considering how the man edged away towards the exit of the room.

Vladan swung his legs over the edge of the table, standing up and nearly losing his balance from inactivity. He reached towards the ceiling, yawning and stretching out his limbs. Vladan turned to face the door, right as it clanged shut.

The man had wanted so badly to fight the three guards, but knew that if he did, he would be thrown back onto the table and strapped back. Vladan hated the fact that he was so useless, realizing that they had already broken his spirit if they had taken away his will to fight in little more than a day.

He noticed the plate that the guards must have set down on the table nearby. Vladan shakily walked over to it, glancing down at the food with a look of disbelief. The realization that he would be eating this plain food for who knows how long definitely hit him hard...

It had been a good minute since he'd been put in a situation similar to this.

He didn't want to be imprisoned like this for the rest of his life. Vladan shoved the tray, and it went sliding off the table with a sharp clang. He still had a lot of fight in him, but he just had to use it wisely.

"She's been captured." James said straightforwardly. "By her own choice."

Coco and Sparks both looked at him icredulously.

"What?!?!" Yelled Coco.

"Eyes on the road!" yelled Sparks. Coco turned back just in time to avoid going off into the ditch.

"Why on earth would she give up like that?" She said, making sure to watch where she was going. "She was always the first one to fight back! What happened."

James told them what had happened since they'd last seen her. About their adventures in Russia and Kita's subsequent run-in with Andrew...

"No wonder she gave in so easily..." said Sparks.

"What do you mean?" Asked James.

Sparks sighed. "She was telling me when we were training that she wanted to get stronger so that she wouldn't get captured ever again..." he said. "She trained as hard as she could and increased her abilities substantially... You should see her wield Coco's powers... It's truly something to behold... But even then... to get captured so easily... she probably thinks it's inevitable at this point."

Willow clung onto the door with dear life, hoping that they would get to their destination soon. She was definitely not used to this sort of driving, and also definitely not used to being around people this rambunctious.

"Do you two have powers?" Willow asked both out of curiosity and to lighten the mood.

Coco laughed as if Willow's question was the funniest thing she'd heard all day, but Sparks answered.

"Electricity." He said simply. "It's a useful but dangerous skill. Kita learned that the hard way..."

"Yeah, well Kita never was great at self preservation. That's why she's dating a healer." Laughed Coco.

James didn't bother telling her about the argument they'd had back at the apartment. He didn't want to think about it...

"My powers are plant manipulation and the ability to see infrared." She said. "I promise you, it sounds lame, but it's awesome in practice."

"I like that." Willow said simply. She leaned forwards a bit, turning to look at Sparks. "I want to see you use your electricity." Then she turned to Coco. "And I want to see you do your thing too..." The woman trailed off. "I like your power more. It seems the most intriguing."

Coco laughed. "I like this girl, James! She really appreciates the finer things!"

Sparks rolled his eyes, but a small smile played on his lips as they turned off the highway onto a dirt road. A couple miles further, and they came upon a forested area. Coca parked the vehicle just inside of the tree line, in a clearing that seemed to fit her car a little too perfectly...

As they got out, Coco raised her arm and a full-grown tree burst out of the ground, closing off the gap, and making it so that no one could steal her vehicle.

"There's my power, girlie! You like it?"

"Let's get to the cabin before dark." Sparks said, looking up at the sky. We've had a long trip... I'm sure they want some sleep."

Willow watched in awe as the giant pine sprouted from the ground. There was nothing at first, just dirt, then a small sapling that grew and strengthened into an enormous tree. "That's so amazing..." She trailed off. "Think about everything you can do! All the beautiful gardens..." Willow trailed off.

"I love it." Willow turned to Sparks now, giving him a sheepish look. "I'm excited." She said, embarrassed that she would feel like that considering how they were running away from 'home'.

Sparks smiled. "Oh, I'm sure she'll show you her garden. Com on, let's get back to the house."

They walked along a trail for a long while, but stopped at a thick grove of trees. Coco raised her hand again and two of the trees warped, their branches bending away from each other in a way that seemed almost impossible for solid wood.

She beckoned them through, closing up the branches behind them. Ahead of them, a path lead up to a cabin. It was reasonably sized, big enough to house its three occupants, and hopefully big enough to house two more...

"Willow, you can stay with Coco. We got Andy to set up a cot for you." Sparks said. "James, you've got the couch... I know it's not ideal but..."

"None of this is ideal... I'll be fine on the couch."

Willow was shocked to say the least. The warping of trees, the hidden paths, the coverage on even the car. Everything was so well thought out. The path was filled with draping vines and towering plants. Colorful flowers blotted across the ferns like how paint was splotched across Jackson Pollock paintings.

The interior of the cabin definitely wasn't as large and extravagant as Vladan's mansion, but gave off the cozy feeling Willow got often back when she still lived with her family. It was woody and warm, and a fireplace in the corner crackled lightly from the dying embers.

It wasn't the biggest of homes, but it certainly wasn't too tiny either. Considering how she didn't expect all of them to be here all the time, it would do it's job just fine.

Though it looked like a normal cabin in the woods, Willow could feel the power radiating from the walls. To a normal passerby, it would have been easily overlooked, but to someone that paid closer attention, it certainly wouldn't be considered normal.

"Are you sure it's okay for me to stay?" Willow asked, suddenly feeling like an intruder.

Sparks smiled. "Of course it's alright. James has helped us out plenty in the past and we kind of owe him." he said, "Not to mention this new law..."

"Yeah! The heck is that all about?" Coco said angrily. "I knew they weren't a fan of enabled, but this was a big move on their part. They're looking for a fight!"

"Starting a fight is asking for a war, Maxine." Sparks said. It's unwise to antagonize them... Though I think it's inevitable if they keep snatching people..."

James nodded. "I'm surprised nothing's really happened yet..."

The front door of the cabin opened up, and a tall, dark-skinned man stepped out, waving.

"Hey, Nurse!" he called "Long time, no see!"

James sighed, walking up to the house. "Hey, Andy."

"Beds are ready to go if you guys need them. Coco, for heaven's sake stop leaving your clothes all over your room. How was I supposed to set up a cot in that mess?"

"Did you clean it up?" She asked with a coy smile.

"Yes..."

"Then there's no problem." She said, turning to Willow. "My room's over here. Let's get you settled."

She grabbed Willow's hand, bringing her to a room in the back. Andy rolled his eyes.

"That girl's a handful... Speaking of which, where's your girl?"

Sparks tried to give Andy a warning look, but he missed it. James explained what had happened, a weary look on his face, leaving out their argument.

"Holy cow, man..." he said, shocked. "That isn't like her..."

"I know." He said, "But she wouldn't listen to me... and she didn't want me to come with her."

There was silence for a while as the three men stood there awkwardly. Finally, Sparks broke the silence.

"Well... We should all get some sleep. We'll talk in the morning."

They all nodded, Sparks and Andy leaving to their rooms and James immediately pulling a blanket over himself and falling asleep on the couch.

"Oh!" Willow said at the sudden pull. "Alright thank you." She smiled widely. Coco certainly gave off a vibe that Willow found herself a fan of. Friendly and outgoing, something that was hard to find nowadays. She got ready for bed, which consisted of nothing much except for washing off the makeup she wore and tiredly collapsing into bed.

Kita was woken early in the morning by a loud knock on her door. A soldier entered, accompanied by a young doctor.

"Miss Altobelli?" She asked. Kita nodded and sat up uncomfortably. Her back was incredibly sore...

"I'm Dr. Lawrence." She said. "I'm here to do a health checkup."

"Sure." Kita said, and the doctor pulled up a chair and began checking her over, taking her blood pressure, listening to her heartbeat and various other checks that Kita could only imagine the purpose of.

"Do you know why I'm here?" The doctor asked her when she'd finished.

She gave the doctor a confused look. She'd just assumed it was a regular thing...

"You were flagged as 'in poor health' when you arrived. Your weight is well below average and your blood pressure is quite low."

She didn't react to this, so the doctor continued.

"For this reason, we will be monitoring you for one week..."

"Whatever. I don't care."

"...Of course... I'll leave then. Good day."

Vladan stared blankly at the door, brain churning for things he could do to both kill time and get out unscathed. How long had he been taken away? Two days? It felt as if it'd been a week at least.

The man wondered vaguely how his company was doing. At a time like this, he found himself actually missing his receptionists's nagging. Vladan supposed he would have actually gone to work if he knew of his impending doom.

"Hello." Vladan said blankly as the door opened. A well built soldier entered first, armed to the teeth. Vladan's knuckles whitened from how tightly he clenched them, and his nails dug heavily into his palm. The doctor entered second.

He was angry to say the least. The feeling of helplessness like never before...it certainly struck Vladan's very core.

"What do you want?" He said through grit teeth.

The woman turned the chair towards the corner of the wall, where Vladan had kept to himself for the most part. "I'm Dr. Lawrence." She said. "I'm here to do a health checkup." The doctor stood now, and Vladan shied away like a wild animal.

"Don't touch me." He spat out angrily, overlooking the soldier placing his hand on a taser.

"Please don't make this hard."

Vladan sighed angrily, then stood, moving over to the table of which he sat on the edge. He allowed the woman to check him over, noticing her hesitation as she examined the fresh cuts on his palm, his bruised ribs that hadn't healed completely since their trip to Russia, and the small scars that could have only been from bullet wounds.

"Strange." The woman said with a raised eyebrow. "You have some very obvious signs of..." She trailed off, unsure of what to say. "Abuse. But there doesn't seem to be any internal damage. Everything inside is good as new, but your skin hasn't yet healed to that level yet. I've never seen anything like it."

Vladan remembered now. James had been the one to patch him up back when they were up north, and he hadn't had the time or nerve to ask Willow to fix up the scars. "You should see my friend Teiv." Vladan said with a low chuckle.

Dr. Lawrence seemed deep in thought, before speaking. "Do you know why I'm here?"

"Yes." Vladan said, having read her mind earlier.

She overlooked it as a smart aleck statement. "You were put down on the list under 'poor mental health'. From what I can see, I think they're right."

He rolled his eyes, leaning in close to her face. He could hear the guard's footsteps as he got within attacking range, but Vladan ignored it. "Do you think I would be in good mental health? I'm the CEO of one of the biggest corporations in the world. I could buy this entire building with one paycheck. I could tear you apart with my bare hands." He arched a brow. "I have men that would lay down their life to get me out of here." Vladan growled menacingly, and Dr. Lawrence cleared her throat.

"For this reason, we will be monitoring you for one week." She said, ignoring his words.

Vlasdan scoffed. "Get out of here."

"Good bye."

James woke up and brewed a pot of coffee. No one else was awake, as far as he knew. He had gotten the first full night's sleep in a long time, which instantly made him feel guilty, knowing that it was because Kita wasn't there to wake him with one of her night terrors...

"Morning..."

James turned to see Andy, who'd clearly just gotten out of the shower, his long, black hair still wet and tied in a messy ponytail and his shirt was unbuttoned.

"Morning..." James responded, offering him a mug, which he accepted gratefully. The two men sat at the table not speaking, until Andy broke the silence.

"I've known you for a long time, James." he said quietly. "Something had to have happened between you and Kita... You would never just leave her like that and she wouldn't want you to leave her... She'd never admit it, but she was a mess without you man... The three of us had to check up on her every day for a while there... So something had to have happened."

Andy had always been incredibly astute... He'd always wondered if it was another ability. Coco was oblivious to almost everything and Sparks took everyone at their word, but Andy could see past the facades that the others put up...

"She broke up with me, I think." he said honestly. "I'm not sure... We had an argument right before Willow and I left..."

He told him about the time leading up to his leaving the apartment, and about their trip to Russia and Andrew. Andy listened intently, his expression unreadable.

"That's rough, man." he said. "I've never seen you two fight like that before... Except that first time she and Xavi stole your truck..."

"How have you guys been out here?" he said, his attempt at changing the subject not subtle in the slightest.

"Coco's enjoying herself. You should see her garden... She's been creating all new kinds of plants. Some of them are... interesting to say the least." he said. "Sparks is doing alright too, but he's been kind of down lately. I think he feels really guilty about what happened to Kita's arm. I keep telling him it was an accident, but you should have seen him when we saw that she didn't have a pulse... He used his powers to restart her heart, but then he didn't leave his room for nearly a week, even after he found out that she was going to be okay..."

"Where am I?" Willow mumbled to herself when she woke up. The woman rubbed her eyes as she propped herself up on one elbow. "Oh. Yeah." She said, suddenly remmebering meeting James's friends and being taken to this cabin in the woods. The woman yawned tiredly.

Willow could hear voices coming from the other room, but they were speaking too lowly for her to bother trying to make out. She turned over back on her side, closing her eyes in an attempt to get more sleep.

"How many do you sense?"

Kita closed her eyes. She was getting tired of the endless questions. The exercises weren't physically exhausting... unlike her mimic power, her sensory abilities didn't expend a lot of energy. It was essentially another sense like sight or hearing.

It was however a huge mental drain...

"Four." She said, directing her attention to the room adjacent to them. She couldn't see through the mirrored window, but she knew they were there, three near the glass and one pacing further back. "Three regulars, one enabled."

The scientist raised his eyebrow at this and she noticed that the pacing man had stopped moving.

"Miss Altobelli, there is no enabled in-"

"The one in the centre by the glass." She said nonchalantly. "Is a mind-reader."

The forms on the other side moved quickly, probably grabbing the enabled man. All except the man in the back. He didn't move at all...

"Looks like they've arrested him."

"Does it hurt?"

Vladan gave the scientist an condescending look. The experiments made him feel like an animal, but at least he wasn't the healer forced to sit by them for the past hour. "No." He said for the twentieth time. "It doesn't hurt."

The scientist placed the needle back onto his tray. It had been pinpricks up until now, and Vladan arched a brow as the man lifted a slim knife off the table. "Come on." Vladan said arrogantly. "You can do better than that." He continued speaking even as the blade pierced the skin on his arm. Blood leaked out from the small cut. "Why don't you just stick the entire thing inside?"

The healer awkwardly sat by, obviously uncomfortable at having to take part in these experiments. "Feels absolutely invigorating." He said with a sly smile. The scientist waved for the healer to fix the wound.

"What's next?" Vladan asked with mock excitement. The scientist moved back to the tray, before stepping over with a lighter.

Vladan's breath caught in his throat. "No fire." He said through grit teeth. "I don't like fire." The lighter clicked, and the dark flame fought for life against the air.

The scientist leaned in, and Vladan pulled his arm back. "I said I don't like fire." He said lowly, looking up. His stormy eyes kept gaze with the scientist's hazel ones.

The scientist hesitated, but put the flame out.

"Good boy." Vladan said with a small smile to cover up the slight wince as a shot of pain stung his pupils. "All you need to know is that I can't feel it." He whispered, then turned his head slightly to the right as the scientist moved back to the table, seemingly dazed. The healer sitting by the wall observed with wide eyes, and Vladan turned away from the camera in the corner, lifted a finger to his lips, and made a small shush motion with a wide smirk.

Coco walked into the living room, yawning.

"I'm going to go outside and water the garden. Do you guys want me to get you anything?"

"Can you grab me some raspberries?" asked Andy. "The normal ones... not the ones that taste like lemons."

James raised an eyebrow. "That's an odd combination."

Coco smiled. "I'll grab some of those for you. You'll like them, James."

She walked out the door. Andy turned to James.

"So what's the plan? Fighting isn't our best option right now, but we can't just stand by and let this happen."

James shook his head. "I have no idea. Everything is just so messed up right now..."

James looked away. He could only think of Kita... He couldn't stop thinking about her... The risks for him were hardly even a consideration, but when he pictured Kita in that place...

"Yes... I know." He said quietly.

Sparks was silent, seemingly contemplating Willow's observation. He had a deep frown on his face, looking absolutely conflicted.

"So we just lose?" He asked finally. "There isn't any scenario in which we all just go free?"

"I'd like to introduce you to someone."

The doctor that was doing an in-depth health assessment to determine her diet and medication levels for the next week stepped aside as a man entered the room.

The man was very professional-looking, with an air of authority and class. She assumed he was one of the people in charge here...

Behind him was a young woman - an enabled, though Kita was unfamiliar with his power, something that was becoming increasingly rare...

"This is Verity. She is going to be working closely with you."

"I don't play well with others." Kita said coldly. Just because she was complying, didn't mean that she had to enjoy it.

"You don't have a choice, Miss Altobelli." He said frankly. "Starting tomorrow, you will be assessing potential enabled, beginning with the staff of this facility, as well as their families."

She didn't like the sound of that. "Why the families?"

"We don't want to deal with any conflict of interest."

"And why is she here?" She asked. "I know she doesn't have the same power as me, so what would she have to offer?"

He smiled slightly. "Quality control. Verity, why don't you show her what I mean?"

Verity approached her, reaching out to touch her head, but Kita slapped her arm away. Immediately, the doctor and a soldier standing guard restrained her, clipping her wrists into the sides of the chair.

Verity again moved in, touching Kita's temple gently. Immediately, Kita relaxed, feeling a sense of calm that she had not felt in a long time washing over her.

"Your full name?"

"Kita Avonlea Altobelli."

The words seemed to come so naturally, almost like breathing... She wasn't concerned in the slightest about the meaning of the words... It was like she'd been put on autopliot... All she had to do was sit back and let the world move around her.

"What is your relationship with Vladan Vietkov?"

"Complicated. I don't know where we stand right now."

She was aware of everything around her, but it felt surreal, like a dream when her actions were not her own decision.

"How do we break him?"

"Unless we can somehow influence one or multiple government or political figures so they can retract this new law, we're stuck." Willow said thoughtfully.

"But..." She trailed off curiously. "I have worked with my fair share of political and government officials and perhaps...maybe one of them will be inclined to help because of what I've done for them."

The hunger gnawing inside him was easily ignored by his constant pacing. When he wasn't pacing, he was doing as much physical activities as possible inside the room. Whether it be situps, pushups or planks, Vladan did anything he could to both keep the worried thoughts away and to keep himself in good shape.

He hadn't eaten anything since he'd been taken to the facility, having only drank the water he was given and pushing the tray across the floor. Though he was a prisoner, he was a prisoner with an attitude.

The experiments performed on him weren't exactly bothersome as they did help pass the time, but they were annoying and degrading to a certain extent. However, the pain did invigorate him, and he supposed that the energy he received from the constant cycle of wounding and healing gave him what he needed to keep his head up throughout the day.

The door was opened, and he finished the pushup then stood up. One doctor, two guards.

"What do you need?" Vladan asked, cracking his knuckles as he spoke. The doctor motioned at the table, and Vladan scoffed, though he did comply, however slowly he took to lay down. There was no point in fighting these small battles when he could win the war. He leaned back, and before Vladan could speak another word, he felt his wrists being shackled against the armrests. "Woah doctor." He said hesitantly. "What's this all about?"

"We're going to check your eyes today." The doctor said as he cleaned his equipment with a white cloth. A bright flashlight was shone onto Vladan's eyes, and he squinted from the harsh light.

"That's a bit too bright, don't you think?" Vladan commentated. The doctor ignored it as he wrote down some notes on a clipboard. Vladan paid no attention as the doctor continued to experiment, testing his vision, his reaction times and anything else.

"20 20 vision." The doctor said bluntly. He picked up a two way radio, then spoke into it. "Everything is normal. Nothing strange, his pupils are regular colored, nothing red." There was a slight pause. "Shall we proceed?"

A thin needle was raised in the air, and Vladan narrowed his eyes at the sight of it. "Where is that going?" He asked hesitantly, voice shaking slightly. The doctor's hands held his eyes open, and Vladan's breath caught in his throat. "That's completely unnecessary. Don't do this." He tried pulling back, but the table kept him in position. Vladan spoke faster now. "You don't get paid enough for this. Come on..."

"Doctor wait." He said suddenly. The other man paused, needle held tightly in his gloved hands, calm gaze meeting Vladan's panicked one. "I have a confession." The doctor leaned back, giving the two guards a cocked brow, before turning back to face Vladan. "Lean in close, I have a secret to tell you." The doctor hesitated, but complied, trusting the fact that the Enabled was strapped down. He leaned in close, and Vladan maintained the man's brown-eyed gaze. There was a slight smile on Vladan's part, and he noticed the other man's pupil glaze over with a reddish tint. "Come closer." The doctor leaned in closer. Vladan whispered something in the man's ear.

Almost immediately, the doctor waved the guards over. "I want you to release him." The doctor said. Vladan arched a brow in mock confusion. His left wrist was unshackled, and the guard working on it cried out suddenly. The man slumped forwards, coughing up blood at Vladan's feet. The second guard, confused, turned to look at their attacker.

"What the-" He was cut off at the sight of the doctor holding a bloodied blade. "I'm going to have to shoot you if you don't back down." The guard called out gruffly.

Vladan edged away from the table, not wanting to get caught in the crossfire. "Get him, boy!" He called out, and the doctor complied, lunging forwards with the blade. The soldier pulled the trigger, and a bullet made it's mark. Though injured, the doctor continued forward, surging forwards and pushing the soldier into a wall, before embedding the knife in the man's throat.

"Good one, doc." Vladan called out with a wide grin. The doctor looked over at Vladan, then the blood on his hands. Confusion was displayed across his face. Suddenly, the door was kicked open, and several armed soldiers rushed in, dragging the doctor out.

"You forgot the bodies." Vladan cried out as the door slammed shut.

"Sir, there's been an incident downstairs. It's the doctor we assigned to Vietkov... he attacked the guards out of nowhere..."

The man turned to Kita, who had been briefly released from Verity's power and was blinking slowly, seemingly confused about what was going on.

"Verity, I need you to do it again... Miss Altobelli clearly has more to tell us..."

Verity nodded, and she placed her fingers on Kita's temples again.

"Miss Altobelli, do you know what happened?"

"Yes."

"Please enlighten us."

"Vladan Vietkov can read and control minds through eye contact, though the latter is for a limited amount of time."

The man raised an eyebrow, impressed.

"Do many enabled have multiple powers, Miss Altobelli?"

"A little over half, in my experience." She said.

"And you, Miss Altobelli? Do you have another power that you have not mentioned?"

"Yes. I am able to copy the ability of any enabled that I make contact with for ten minutes, give or take."

The man turned to one of the soldiers.

"We are going down to visit Mr. Vietkov. Have them restrain him and instruct them to take measures to avoid eye contact." He said. "Handcuff Miss Altobelli and bring her with us."

Vladan chuckled satisfactorily to himself once he was alone. The two dead soldiers lay unmoving in their own separate pools of blood, and he whistled happily to himself as he congratulated himself for a job well done.

The door was slammed open again, and five men wearing SWAT helmets stormed in with raised guns. "I love unnecessary attention." He said with a wide grin.

The smile was wiped off his face as one of the men kneed him in the stomach, sending him to a kneeling position on the ground. Someone held him in place as a cloth was tied tightly around his head, covering his eyes.

"Now that's just unfair." He said, voice filled with contempt. Vladan made to stand, but the feel of a gun being jabbed into the middle of his back froze his movements.

"Watch it." He said angrily, though Vladan was undoubtedly ignored as the soldier pushed it even more harshly into his skin.
