Kita stepped back, her charge hardly moving the man that stood before her. She looked up to see Tiev, a brief look of recognition crossing her face before being replaced with a frown.

She pulled out a knife, given to her by Mr. Lee before departing in case she was unable to use her mimic ability.

"You shouldn't be here." She said, threateningly, pushing back her reluctance to fight him. He had been incredibly kind to her once, but to get what she wanted- or rather needed- she would have to go through him.

She held the blade with a degree of skill that she didn't know she still had. She had once loved the feeling of a knife in her hand... the adrenaline of needing to fight in close quarters...

"Leave."

"You shouldn't be here either." Teiv said quietly. The man looked down at Kita, her length hair, wild eyes, the sharp blade being pointed in his direction. "I'm not leaving without Vladan." He muttered plainly.

He had become quite a bit more talkative since the last time he had seen Kita. Dawn had made sure that the man practiced his speaking skills.

"Go ahead and cut me." Teiv said, voice laced with the calm and confidence only available to someone with his caliber of regeneration. "You know it won't work."

She considered the situation, knowing full well that she could not harm him. Any threat she made would be useless... She could never follow through...

This didn't mean she wouldn't try...

She ran at him, blade pointed in his direction. She needed relief... She craved emptiness... She didn't want to think or make decisions or wonder what she might have done differently.

She didn't want to see the faces of those she betrayed. She didn't want the knowledge that she was a pet now... a guard dog for Mr. Lee. She didn't want to remember her bout with Vladan... her savage fighting... The thought that perhaps she was losing her sanity...

She wanted so badly to be numb... but she had to try to hurt someone close to her again to do it... Just one more thing she wanted to forget...

Though his body regenerated quickly, that didn't mean he wouldn't feel the pain that came along with getting harmed. However, his work with Vladan certainly has improved his pain tolerance by quite a lot. Teiv saw the flash of movement, and Kita's blade embedded itself somewhere in his chest.

"No, Kita." He choked out, grasping her blade hand. "Don't..." Teiv clenched his teeth, feeling the blood sneaking up the back of his throat. She probably got him somewhere in the chest, or one of his airways.

"You don't want this."

"You're right... I don't..." She said, her hand still on the handle, trying not to think about what she was doing. "But I need to..."

She rotated her wrist, all the while feeling as though the blade was twisting in her own chest... She tried desperately to push aside the guilt. Tiev didn't deserve this. Tiev was so kind to her. She trusted Tiev.

"Please know that I never wanted this, Tiev." She said, pushing back every emotion. "But I need the pain to stop... Do yourself a favour and get out of this place..."

She pulled out the blade, stepping back and waiting for him to make a move.

It tasted like metal. It was familiar really, the coppery flavor in his mouth as his ichor flowed past his lips and down his chin and neck. The pain was nearly unbearable, the twisting of the blade only adding on to the discomfort already presented from the knife itself.

He would not hurt Kita, no matter how badly she hurt him.

Teiv was not a fighter. He was a protector. There were no words left for him to say, and even if he wanted to say something to her, he both didn't want to and didn't have the energy to.

Consciousness was a fleeting thing, and he felt the woman yank the blade swiftly out. Spots clouded his vision, both from the pain and from the hemorrhage. Though he still had no incentive to hurt her, Kita's words certainly did cause a slow anger to burn in his heart.

"You..." He coughed now, finding it nearly impossible to get enough air past his mask and into his ruptured lung. "You are weak then, being made to do things you don't wish to do."

The pain to stop....

These men had broken the strong minded woman that Vladan had first introduced him to. The scientists and soldiers and government workers had found a way inside her brain, tearing her from the inside out. And Teiv realized it, but she was too far gone for him to try to reach out to her. Not here. Not now.

"I would have come back for you." He said, sadness interlacing in his voice. How long did he have now? How much more time could he delay her for?

Probably for another minute or several, until he passed out.

She could see that he was struggling, and she realized that while he would survive this, unlike Vladan, he was not invulnerable to pain.

"I know I'm weak, Tiev." she said, the reality of what she had done only adding to her guilt and making her more desperate. "I know... I just... I want..."

She put away the knife.

"You shouldn't have come... This place is dangerous..." she said quietly. "I don't want to hurt you... I don't want to have to hurt you..."

"You already have." He said softly.

Her words were reaching through him barely, everything sounded muffled, like he was inside some sort of strange bubble. Teiv reached up to his mask, yanking it off so that he could breath better. Fresh air rushed against his face, and he took this chance to take several gasping breaths.

The man was fading in and out of consciousness now, and he wondered how long he had managed to keep Kita at bay. "I came for my friend and my commander, for the man that saved my life nearly three years ago..."

He wasn't sure if he was standing upright anymore, and the entire room was spinning. Teiv could feel his heart beating quicker now, and he looked down at the wound. His body was doing it's best to recover, but the twist of the knife certainly made it a lot harder.

The man limped forwards slowly, making move to shove Kita forwards, however little time it supplied Dawn and One, he hoped it was enough.

---

"Where is he?" Dawn said, her panic obvious from her tone of voice. The blonde had decapitated and interrogated nearly 6 soldiers by now, and none of them had any idea where Vladan was being held. The only information they had manged to get was that they moved him away from the holding cells and to a entirely new area altogether. Only issue was, nobody knew where.

"Dawn, we need to get out now." One whispered.

"We can't leave without him. It won't be worth-it, we already lost Teiv."

"It's gonna be us next."

"Willow is an sheltered idiot. Using her way of getting him would take months!" The blonde kicked the door of the Surveillance Room open. Surprisingly, it was empty.

Dawn darted over to the camera's, staring closely as the screens flitted from cell to cell. Maybe they could spot him...

Kita stepped aside, letting him fall to the ground.

"I'm sorry, Tiev." she said, a hint of regret in her eyes.

She ran down the hallway. The other two were nearly outside her range. She had to hurry if she wanted to keep up...

She ran down hallways, tears already forcing their way to her eyes. She didn't want to think about what she'd just done. She didn't want to think of the selfish reasons for what she was doing.

She was getting closer... As soon as this was over, she could forget...

"There!" Dawn said suddenly. "I see him. Looks like they're holding him apart from everyone else..." She examined the screen for any telltale signs, and recognized a bathroom around the corner. "Okay, let's go..."

One nodded her head, putting up her barrier as Dawn pulled her down the hall. The two of them ran up a long staircase, stopping midway only to dispatch three soldiers patrolling the area.

She spotted the familiar bathroom at the end of the hall, and the duo charged forwards with renewed vigor. They turned the corner, and were faced with a locked door and a keypad.

"We don't know the code." One said fearfully.

"Yes yes yes." Dawn muttered under her breath. She wracked her brain for the numbers that the soldier had punched into #001 earlier.

"8921."

The keypad flashed red.

"8931."

Red again.

"8932."

Flashing red.

Dawn banged the door in frustration.

---

Vladan could hear the muffled bang coming from outside. The three soldiers stopped their uncomfortable pacing, all facing the door with weapons raised.

If someone was trying to break into the room, Vladan was going to help. He stood slowly, making sure to not catch the soldiers' attention.

He moved closer as the banging stopped, then he tackled the first soldier. The man shouted and turned to face Vladan, the other two now facing their attention to Vladan.

"I wouldn't do that."

Kita stood there, her knife out. She could have attacked them without warning, but she wanted to give them every opportunity to fight back... She already felt terrible, she didn't need to feel worse...

"You should get out of here."

Dawn couldn't hear Kita past her banging on the door and the shouting she could also here coming from within. She didn't even realize there was a newcomer until the woman spoke.

"We're just here to get him out." Dawn said, ignoring Kita. To the blonde, Kita was still a friend and not a threat. "You can come too. Just help me open this freaking door." The woman sent a solid kick at the door, but it held.

One pulled away from Dawn, slowly edging away from both women. She held her breath, hoping that she wouldn't be noticed.

---

The last body dropped to the floor with a sharp thud. One of them incapacitated, the other two probably dead or dying. Vladan searched their uniforms for something that could help him escape. All he could find were a few knives and pistols, as well as a lighter and a taser.

He cried out in frustration, choosing to pick up a gun. Vladan checked to make sure it was loaded, then pulled the trigger, aiming it at the hinges.

Kita dove at Dawn, not holding the knife out yet. She didn't have the same healing powers as Tiev did... If she could avoid causing significant physical harm, then she would.

She heard a gunshot from the other side of the door, but that was not her concern... She needed to focus on what she was doing...

Dawn let out a sharp cry as she was thrown into the metal door. The surface dug into her back, and she let out a painful grunt. "You are fighting for the wrong side." The blonde said through grit teeth. She moved to shove the other woman away, before reaching to take out a blade of her own.

"What is your problem?" She said, her eyes flashing in anger.

---

Vladan pulled the trigger again. He glanced over at the bottom hinge as he picked up the next gun. It was cracked and the top part had been blown off, but it still needed several more good shots for it to come off.

Kita kept her eyes on Dawn.

"You need to leave." She said, holding the knife at the ready in case Dawn made a move. "You should never have come here..."

She didn't want to make the first move. If Dawn left, she wouldn't have to get her hands dirty... But she knew that wasn't likely. Dawn would not back down...

The hinge popped off with a loud crack. He pulled the trigger, aiming the gun at the other one. The click echoed around the room, notifying Vladan that it was out of bullets. The man tossed the pistol aside, as he searched the uniforms for extra shells.

"Come on..." He muttered in frustration. There was nothing.

Vladan instead picked up one of their knives, rushing over to the door as he repeatedly slammed the hilt onto the hinge.

---

Dawn could hear the sharp banging coming from inside the room. She just needed to buy a little more time. The woman brandished the knife, though she made no move to attack.

"We leave as soon as we have Vladan."

Kita glanced to the side, hearing a loud bang. She was waiting for Vladan to get out. If Vladan escaped...

Her initial restraint vanished as she realized what they were trying to do. She raised the knife, swiping wildly at Dawn. If Dawn and the other girl escaped, Mr. Lee might be satisfied. If Vladan escaped, she doubted he would keep up his end of the bargain.

She leapt backwards, the blade knocking the cloth of her shirt. Dawn took several quick steps backwards, before lunging in for a swift counter swipe.

"I thought you were better than this." Dawn said. She could see One leaning past the corner, watching for any oncoming soldiers.

---

Vladan let out an angry cry every time the hilt of the blade contacted the hinge. After what seemed to be his tenth hit, the metal cracked open. He could hear an exchange going outside, but couldn't quiet make out the words.

The man hoped that no one that was on his side of the battle was standing in front of the door, before he sent a hard kick into the metal. There was a loud bang and the door gave way slightly. He tackled the door now, using the weight of his entire body to shove it out.

It creaked noisily, then fell forwards.

He made to step out, but felt a sharp tug at his ankles. Vladan fell to the ground with a loud thud, and he turned around to see one of the soldiers yanking him back.

"I should have just killed you." Vladan said, twisting his body and making to punch the man in the face.

---

"Dawn we are running out of time!" One cried out quickly. It seemed that now that the soldiers realized what the intruders were really here for, it was unnecessary for them to guard anybody else. She could see five of them at the bottom of the stairwell.

"We have to go right NOW." The twin said, turning just in time to see the metal door crashing to the floor.

Kita ignored the chaos around her, jumping back to avoid Dawn's knife and feeling the tip of the blade cut her just below her left eye.

"I told you to leave."

She heard a loud crash to her left, but kept her attention on Dawn. She was beginning to feel the fatigue from exerting herself so much and her movements were slowing substantially, but the wild look in her eyes remained.

She ran at Dawn, brandishing her weapon, but the attack was far less refined than before, getting sloppy as she grew tired.

One's screaming distracted Dawn, and she turned back just in time to have Kita's blade score a mark across her shoulder. She stepped back, placing her hand over the cut. The blonde felt a hand grab her wrist, and she looked down to see the young girl's fearful black eyes.

"Vladan get yourself out here." Dawn screamed over the sound of footsteps echoing down the hall.

---

He kicked the soldier in the face, scrambling to his feet. Vladan stepped over the door, taking in the chaos around him. Kita and Dawn involved in some sort of knife fight, soldiers running down the hall, and One tugging at Dawn's sleeve.

His wild eyes moved from Kita to Dawn to One to the mass of soldier's rushing down the hall in either direction. Vladan took in a heavy breath, before moving to tackle Kita into the wall.

---

He was so close. Dawn just needed to reach him to escape. She turned now, suddenly preoccupied when she felt a soldier's arms wrap around her waist. The woman pushed back, shoving the man into the wall.

"I swear...." She said through grit teeth. "I'm going to destroy every single one of you." The woman turned, sending a punch straight at the soldier's face.

Kita hit the wall hard, and found herself staring up at Vladan.

She hesitated, the knife still in her shaking hand. Vladan couldn't heal like Tiev... just because he couldn't feel pain didn't mean he couldn't die.

She clutched it in her shaking hand, not backing down, but not making a move either. Her mind was at a standstill... what should she do?

"Tiev... is in the hallway... where we began fighting." She said finally. "Tell Dawn."

And then she swung the knife, aiming for his shoulder.

Vladan grunted at the feel of metal sliding into his skin. He was a man of self confidence, arrogance, and egotism, but he wasn't a man that would leave behind the very people that had come to break him out. The man stepped back, using his weight itself to pull the blade out.

"Dawn!" He called out to the blonde woman struggling with a soldier. The man rushed over to One, kneeling slightly in front of the small girl.

"You have to get out of here." Vladan said lowly to her. "You're too young to be here. Grab Dawn and go get Teiv. He should be back where you guys first left him."

The man ducked just in time to avoid a hit on the head from a rifle butt. The soldiers seemed to have switched targets on him, and Vladan pushed One in Dawn's direction.

"Leave. Now!" He said, eyes flashing red in warning.

Vladan turned to face the soldier, only to get a punch in the jaw. He could see Dawn's hesitation, and he gave her one last glance before he lost sight due to One's silent cloak.

Vladan elbowed the soldier's face, sending the man reeling back into the wall. He turned to face the others only to find himself facing down the barrel of a gun.

Kita stood by, clutching the knife loosely in her hand as she too was restrained, probably at Mr. Lee's request. She felt the blade leave her hand as it was taken away, but she didn't resist. She could sense Dawn and the other girl leaving to get Tiev, but she said nothing.

She looked past the soldiers and saw Mr. Lee and Verity. Once she was handcuffed and held down by two soldiers, the two approached.

"Well done..." He said, a sly smile on his face. "A little rough around the edges, but I can work with it. Your reward, as promised..."

He gestured over to Verity, who pressed her fingers to Kita's temple. Immediately, she relaxed in the soldiers' grip, her eyes becoming glassy and a delirious smile crossing her lips.

"Miss Altobelli, who were the intruders?"

"I don't know the girl's name, and I only know the other two as Tiev and Dawn."

"Why were they here?"

"To rescue Vladan."

"Did you physically harm them?"

"Yes... I did minor harm to Dawn and Vladan and did more serious damage to Tiev."

"Did you intentionally allow them to escape?"

"Yes."

Mr. Lee frowned. "It would seem that we are almost there, Miss Altobelli, but not quite. You still have attachments that must be broken..."

He glared in Vladan's direction. She might have succeeded, had Vladan not triggered her emotions like he did...

"Beginning with that one."

Vladan could feel himself being kicked in the shins. He dropped to a kneeling position on the ground against his will, a heavy sigh escaping through his throat as he shuddered lightly from the cold hallway.

"You are nothing to me." Vladan spat angrily, body shaking furiously. "You have your broken little pets eating out of the palm of your hand, but they don't do it out of loyalty nor devotion."

He let out a shaky breath, trying to contain his temper before anything else got out of hand. "My soldiers follow me faithfully. Even now, they work hard to retrieve me."

"You are a tool that others use for their own self preservation. If you didn't have anything they wanted, you would have nothing at all." He glanced over at Verity, daring her to make eye contact with him.

"Look at me." Vladan said to her. "Look me straight in the eyes and try telling me I'm wrong."

Verity looked away, though her expression betrayed the truth of Vladan's words. Mr. Lee laughed.

"I have never pretended to be the type of person to command loyalty, Mr. Vietkov, nor do I expect it. What I do expect is obedience." He placed his hand on Kita's head. She was listless, seemingly drifting in and out of consciousness. "And I will do what it takes to that end..."

"I am not enabled, Mr. Vietkov. I cannot simply force others to do as I say. They require... motivation." He patted Kita's head. "For Miss Altobelli, the thing she desires is release from her agony... The endless guilt of betraying her own, the fear of being someone else's puppet, her constant feelings of weakness... Verity has told me a great deal of Miss Altobelli's inner thoughts..."

"It's fascinating, the things that people keep hidden inside... How ironic that it is Verity's power that both heals her and arms her foe... Like healing a bullet wound by shooting yourself in the foot... It's really quite poetic, don't you think?"

Vladan scoffed. "You remind me of somebody actually." He smiled bitterly. "I see parts of you in myself. Same person, different sides perhaps." He arched a brow, grinning upwards at Lee. "Revenge is profitable and gratitude expensive. Unfortunately for you, I will find a way to inflict vengeance eventually."

"You are intrigued by the very same things that keep me living and breathing." He laughed, moving to stand. The soldiers allowed Vladan to remain upright, though they kept a watchful eye upon him.

"Verity." Vladan called out in a singsong voice laced lavishly with bitterness. "Look into my eyes and try to see what I know." He glanced over daringly at Lee. "It'll be a twisted little journey through the path of psycho."

"I'm sure Kita's mind is much closer to the norm than mine is. You'll have a much more entertaining time trying to figure me out instead."

"Please take Mr. Vietkov to his new room." He said, addressing the soldiers. "And Verity... you go with him. Please ensure that there is no one else in the room while Verity is there... I don't want the poor girl being forced to kill anyone."

He looked down at Kita.

"As for this one, put her back in her room... and send Greg a progress report, both of the attempted breakout... and of our progress with Miss Altobelli here..."

Verity looked at him apprehensively, but he didn't acknowledge it. She followed the soldiers leading Vladan away nervously.

The sharp ring of a bell echoed in the air, and Willow glanced down at the phone. She read the urgent text multiple times, before finally saying it aloud.

"Three Enabled broke into the facility, killed and hurt many soldiers, and nearly escaped with Vladan. Please refrain from having your friends do that again."

She turned to Sparks with a sigh and a frown. "I guess Dawn decided she was tired of waiting..." Willow trailed off, as the phone rang again.

Willow, can you come help us out? Teiv is unconscious, One is scared and my shoulder hurts like crazy.

"Do you think you could take me to my friend's place instead? We can reserve breaking and entering Vladan's house for a much more convenient time."

---

"You know, Verity." Vladan said as they walked. "I would have loved to work with you." He stopped talking as a soldier shoved him forwards. The man kept up the pace for a bit, until the group paused in front of a door. "Your power could make interrogations go much easier, and consist with a whole lot less bloodshed and pain."

He was shoved inside the room, and Vladan examined his new surroundings. It looked the same as the last one. Vladan supposed Dawn, Teiv and One's attempt at breaking him out didn't cause him much punishment.

"But I see past that." Vladan said lowly. "I see you as more than just another power for someone to take advantage of. I see you as a person. A potential friend, a powerful ally and a beautiful woman." He smiled deviously, turning to face Verity as the door slammed shut.

James looked up. Dawn had been at the facility... Perhaps...

"Sparks, you and Andy go to the store. I'll take Willow. I suspect it might take a while, but we'll still need groceries if we want to eat tonight."

Sparks nodded. "For sure. Call me if you need any help."

James turned to Willow. "We can take Kita's car. Coco brought it over from the apartment yesterday. She said she thought it might be useful. I guess she was right."

He got up, walking to the kitchen and grabbing the keys off the counter.

"Coco, I need you to clear the trees off of Kita's car!" he called.

Coco came around the corner, a bag over her shoulder.

"I'm coming with you two. I'm not getting left behind while you all leave, and I refuse to go shopping with Sparks. He takes far too long picking things out..."

James nodded. "Okay. Let's go."

They walked out of the house and to the vehicle. Coco moved the trees enough for James to drive out, then closed it behind him, climbing in.

"So where are we going, Willow?"

Verity blushed.

"Mr. Vietkov... What did you hope to accomplish by bringing me here?" she asked.

"Underground." Willow said. "There's a bar named 'Hush' near the outskirts of the city. I'll tell you more about it when we're there, but there are quite a few secrets that place holds."

---

Vladan stepped towards her now, a small smile crossing his face at the pink twinge on Verity's. He stopped only a foot or so away from the woman, looking down at her, movements exerting the confidence and masculinity only a man with his experiences could give. "Mr, huh...." He trailed off, leering over her as he leaned in close to her face. "I haven't heard that in a while." The man made no move to get any closer to her, the tiny space between their faces almost uneasily close. His stormy eyes peered into Verity's, and he chuckled lightly.

"What I seek to accomplish is for me to know and you to find out." He winked at her, before speaking. "I've seen you only in the passing for the past two weeks. Something about you intrigues me, Verity."

"I would like to get to know you the best I can for the rest of my stay."
