Jane leapt in joy, effectively rocking it.
"So... we're going to drown in boats and catch a cold instead?"

Kitty saw Nick in the crowd. He saw her too, and started as if to say something to her, but then shot her a apologetic look as he was siphoned into another boat. It looked as though she was stuck with Cael and the poles.

@smilies ~ The poles? xD

Lloyd pointed into the water.
"Hey. I see faces..."

@icymuffin Opposites xD Eager and hyper, uncaring and indifferent xD

Kitty looked down too. "Merpeople?" She whispered.

Jane said in a hushed voice. "Yeah..."
She reached a hand out to touch them, transfixed despite the fact that the surface of the water was dancing.

Gtg down to the shops: My mum says it'll only take 15 but I'm betting 30 >_<

Kitty kept back. She wasn't sure she quite liked them. They were rather creepy. Then the gamekeeper hurried them along into the boats.

@icymuffin Back! Both wrong, it took an hour! xD I was closer xD

*~*~*~*

Finally shoving Bayden into the boat, him seemingly afraid of both water and cats, Chryssie stepped in behind them. Ruefully, the boy locked eyes with her.
"Oh stop it, you look as if I've killed your favorite dog." Nuzzling her face into Daja`, unaffected by the boats or the water, she watched as the boy huffed and turned away. Looking into the water, curious as to what the kids ahead of her were looking at, she saw a face looking right up at her from below the surface; and shrieked.
"Is he dead?!"

[No, there isn't a dead body. But usually if someone's just floating under the water staring at you unblinkingly, you assume they're dead xD]

"Merpeople," the gamekeeper grunted. "Keep to themselves mostly. Odd to see them out like this. DO try not to disturb them!" He barked at a girl about to touch one, and she withdrew her hand hurriedly. "They bite back."

Taking on the example of the girl that had drawn her hand away, Chryssie firmly planted her's into her lap. Bayden, who was just recently teased for his fears, snickered at her.
"Oh just shut it. I don't think I like merpeople. Not one bit."
"Oh don't be scared of a fishie. I thought you liked nature." With that, the usually peaceful girl gave him her angriest scowl. She could feel one of her "Tantrums", as her mother called it.

Nick stared at back unblinkingly into the deep sea green eyes with unconcealed fascination as the boats moved as one across the lake. In fact, it got to the point when his friend had to pull him back into the boat, he was leaning so far out he was in danger of falling in. Luckily the magic the controlled the boats prevented them from capsizing.

Looking back into the lake, Chryssie noticed how more than one of the merpeople were watching her. Cold chills ran down her back and anyone could probably see her eyes popping out of her head. Clinging to Daja` harder, her fear drove her so far; she was pressed against the person next to her. Of course, Bayden was just laughing away.

Cael saw the girl in the other boat freaking out about the merpeople and he laughed sadistically. "This is hilarious guys," Cael pointed out, "look at that silly girl in the other boat."

Noticing people staring and laughing at her, Chryssie sat abruptly upright. Coughing nervously, she tried to be as still as possible as those eyes stared up at her from the water.
"They just want a hug."
"Oh shut it before I make you hold Daja`"

Sarah stared at the Merpeople with wide eyes. Ginger hissed at them, and backed away from the lake. Sarah then tried to calm her cat, but only made the small boat shake wildly by her movement.
Miles was silent as the boat crossed the lake. He held onto Blackfeather's cage as the boat wildly swayed.
/Why did I have to get the same boat as the weird girl from earlier?/ he thought to himself, rolling his eyes.

Felix gazed in awe at a mermaid. "Whoah..." he reached his hand out, as if he was hypnotized. The man rowing the boat grabbed his arm. "Wouldn't do that if I were you, sonny. Not unless you'd like to lose a finger. Or drown." the man added with a sickening grin. Felix shuddered and squeezed his messenger bag.

After being rocked around for a few minutes, Miles started to feel sick.
"Gosh, can you just calm down!?!?!" he growled at Sarah angerily.
Sarah grabbed Ginger. "Sorry." she mumbled.
"You better be." he growled back, but really didn't mean it.

The owl hooted again. Felix thumped the cage. "Hush!" he whispered. The boat creaked and floated forward.

The boats reached the cliff, and everyone had to bend their heads as the little boats carried them through a sweeping curtain of ivy that hid a wide opening in the cliff face. They were carried along a dark tunnel, which seemed to be taking them underneath the castle, Kitty calculated. They left the boats behind in the underground harbor and clambered up a narrow passage onto the grass sitting in the shadow of the castle. Walking up a flight of stone stairs they found themselves in front of a gigantic oak front door.
They barely had time to catch their breath before the gamekeeper knocked hard on the door three times, and immediately the door swung open.

Cael gazed at the castle. "Well," he commented sarcastically, "it's not huge, or intimidating, or huge at all!" Looking to his right, he saw a colossal field with some poles and bleachers. Hmm... he thought, must be the quidditch field. "Hey guys!" Cael waved at his group, "look at the quidditch field!"

Oh, btw, Weatherby is because Crouch always called Percy that xD

Kitty had no idea what Quidditch was and couldn't have pulled her eyes away from the castle even if she'd wanted to. She ignored him.
"The first years, Proffessor."
"Thank you," Weatherby beamed down at them all. "Follow me please." He led them past the sounds of the Great Hall where the rest of the school was chatting happily and into a small empty chamber to the side.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," he said. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common-room.
The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has it's own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are here at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours.
The Sorting Ceremony will take plaace in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I shall return when we are ready for you. Please wait quietly." He left.

@smilies - What does "Duffers" mean? XD

Sarah fidgeted nervously. She still held Ginger, but but a collarand leash on her so she won't run away anymore.
"I wonder which house i'm going to get?" she whispered quietly to herself.
Miles gulped. He'd been dreading this.
He hoped for Ravenclaw, or Gryffindor. Man, even HUFFLEPUFF was better than Slytherin......

Felix twiddled his thumbs. This school was so strange! What was the sorting cermony again...? Oh yes, the houses. Felix put his hands in his pockets and sat down. "Oooooh gosh," he sighed.

@taffy789 fluff XD idk...

Cael took deep breaths. In, out. No need to get all worked up, it was just a ceremony. Apparently, the Sorting Hat takes your choice into consideration as well. So he could just ask for Ravenclaw. His family would not disinherit him. He thought about this all the while inhaling and exhaling deeply. Don't think about how they disinherited Uncle Max. It's ok. Deep breaths.

Felix reviewed how his father had described the four houses.

Gryffyndor (did I spell that right? 😋): the house of the brave and bold.

Ravenclaw: The house for the cunning, clever, and intelligent.

Slytheryn: The house of those who are not to be trusted.

Hufflepuff: Everyone else.

Felix sighed and put his head down on the table. "With my luck, I'll get Hufflepuff..."

@taffy789 Ummmm.... There's no other word for it! Sort of stupid... *Looks it up* Useless, incompetent, ineffectual, or clumsy person.... xD

Nick frowned at a nearby boy who'd just sighed "With my luck, I'll get Hufflepuff...." Half Nick's family was in Hufflepuff, but he didn't say anything.

Kitty was wondering how they sorted them. Her stomach wriggled uncomfortably with nerves. She kept looking at the door, expecting Weatherby to return any minute.
Suddenly the quiet was broken by screams. Kitty whirled around, and blinked when she appeared to see a multitude of ghosts gliding through the back wall, talking loudly. "Over the summer Peeves has vastly improved his manners. Maybe it's time-"
"If you call from dropping cow dung to dropping horse dung on students heads 'vastly improved'", one ghost muttered darkly.
"That's because he ran out," another explained promptly.
