Pokemon Roleplay: New Trainers

To every aspiring trainer, today is the most important day of the year. All around the Hoenn region, children and teenagers are waking up bright and early to rush down to Littleroot Town in the hopes of receiving their very own Pokemon. Some choose Treecko, the cool and collected Tree Gecko Pokemon. Some choose Torchic, the bold and sassy Chick Pokemon. Still others choose Mudkip, the mellow and playful Mud Fish Pokemon.

Some miss the buss, or forget to set their alarm clocks.

Some burst through the sliding glass doors, panting from their sprint to the lab. However, it seems that they just couldn't run fast enough. Every single Pokeball on the hardwood desk is gone.

Some dejectedly go home, to wait another miserable year and learn to pack granola bars instead of wasting time on breakfast. Some, however, take the second option.

Although the famous Hoenn starter Pokemon are gone, the professor will be handing out trainer licenses all day. He'll just send you off with a different Pokemon--the lab has a huge supply of them, and he can answer most requests.

Whether the Pokemon by your side is a Treecko, a Taillow, or a Trapinch, today is the start of a wonderful journey. Friends will be made, bonds will be formed, and shoes will be ruined. The world of Pokemon awaits, and today, a whole new fleet of trainers steps out to face it.

Setting:
Littleroot Town, Hoenn. 10:45 A.M.

Weather is sunny and breezy, without a cloud in the sky. It's fairly cool outside; wearing a sweater isn't uncomfortable, but it also isn't necessary.

All the kids who got there early enough to get their special starters have cleared out, so the town is as quiet.

Rules:
-All posts must be in third person.
-No one-liners.
-All characters must be at least 10 years old. Otherwise, they can't legally receive a trainer's license.
-Do not control any characters other than your own. (NPCs are excluded.)
-No Mary Sue/Gary Stu characters. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CommonMarySueTraits)
-Posts must contain enough content. There's no specific limit, but do post enough.
-No standard starters! That means torchic/treecko/mudkip. Please see the following notes on which starters you can choose.

Choosing your starter Pokemon:
To avoid bickering and allow more members, I threw out the traditional Hoenn starter Pokemon to allow a much broader range. Now, instead of just two people besides me, a bunch can join! However, there are guidelines as to the available Pokemon. They must:

-Be first stage.
-Evolve at some point.
-Be native to the Hoenn region. (Check the Hoenn Pokedex: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Hdex )
-NOT be rare. For the purposes of this roleplay, a Pokemon is rare if it can't be found simply by walking or surfing around in an easily accessible area. Examples of rare Pokemon include:

Any Legendaries
Beldum (only one found in games as a gift)
Bagon (found in remote location)
Fossil Pokemon (must be revived from fossils)
Feebas (found in only one square in the entire game)

THIS list contains all acceptable Pokemon, if you'd like to check. If you feel like I've forgotten one, ask me. I might have made a mistake.

You'll post your desired starter Pokemon in your form, so I can make sure it's all right before the roleplay begins.

The reason for these guidelines is to prevent trainers from starting out with ultra-powerful Pokemon that would give them an unfair advantage over the others. It's also to bring a little more realism into the roleplay.

Hair: Long, dirty blond hair with a slight curl
Eyes: deep blue
Clothes: red off-the-shoulder top and beige capris. Also, an oversized brown belt to which she attaches her pokeballs.
Others (appearance): a large, brown birthmark on the base of the right side of her neck. Has no true shape but she claims that if you sqwint hard enough, it looks like a crown.
Others ( general): Loud-mouthed and condescending. Jane always has to get her opinion in and usually won't stop until she gets her way. As a reasult she doesn't have very many friends although she considers herself to be the most perfect girl around.

Clothes: He usually wears black jeans, a black t-shirt, with a red and black jacket over that. He also wears his favorite black and white sneakers that look really old.
Other (appearance): He always has his backpack slung over his shoulder and he has a build that was meant for speed, not strength.
Other (general): He usually has his Vulpix out of her pokeball because he likes the company. He hopes that one day he will be the best fire-type breeder ever. He is usually really quiet and prefers the company of Pokemon over people. He can be a stick-in-the-mud at times but if you are able to talk him into doing something fun he can be fun. He is really nice to most people but he often becomes nervous around to many people.

"Who in their right mind wants to get up at 7:00 on a Sunday?" a young man spat. His voice was torn to pieces by the wind rushing around him as he pedaled harder through Oldale Town. It was now around 10:50, if he was gauging time correctly, which meant he was two hours and fifty minutes late.

Oldale flew by in a breeze, and suddenly he was zooming toward the Pokemon Lab in Littleroot. There was no crowd--that was a bad sign if he'd ever seen one.

"S'cuse me!" he shouted as he zipped through the automatic doors on his bicycle, very nearly running someone over. He'd been going so quickly that the doors wouldn't have had time to open had the other person not been standing there.

The well-lit table at the back of the room lay completely bare. Noah screeched to a stop on his bicycle, and let out a deflated sigh. A year seemed far, far too long to wait.

Selena ran a hand through her hair as she walked through the town towards the laboratory. She was still a bit irked at having to wake up so early in the morning. Selena would have preferred to stay in bed and sleep for another few hours, but she had finally decides that she wanted to be a Pokemon trainer.

She stepped into the building as the doors slid away to the back room that held the Pokemon. When she got inside, she took in the bare table, and frowned, before her gaze swept towards the male that stood by the table, also looking at it.

About her age, she supposed.

Tusami tore down through the reeds surrounding the Pokemon lab. Her hair grew untidy and her shirt smeared with mud. She burst into the lab and waited until she was called into the lab. "Tusami!" the professor called. She walked into the office noticing all the stares she got. She entered the lab and saw three Pokeballs lying on the table one had a small bolt of lightning on it, one of the others had a small design of leaves on it, the final one had a swirl of water on it. She picked the water one. She left the lab with her Pokemon. She let it out of the ball. A spheal appeared in front of her. "Well hello. You are so cute." she felt excitement rush into her and she dove into the water her spheal following her.

"I probably out of luck," Sirius sighed, he had to run all the way from Petalburg City to get here but he would probably not have arrived soon enough. He continued running though, he wanted to make sure that all the Pokemon had been taken first before he gave up.

His heart thumping faster as he ran and finally he couldn't run anymore. He looked at what lay in front of him and noticed that not to far ahead of him was Littleroot. He smiled widely and then he jogged to where the Pokemon Lab was. He looked down at the watch that was strapped to his wrist and be read that it was 10:45am. He glanced around and noticed that there was no crowd, and he sighed.

He then walked into the Pokemon Lab and looked around. Standing not to far in front of him was a boy and a girl that seemed to be staring at something. Sirius walked closer and realized that the girl and the boy had been staring at an empty table. "Looks like we're all out of luck," Sirius said staring at the table.

Jane strolled casually through the streets as she lazily glanced at her watch, 10:45am. " I am only about two hours late this time. That's a lot better than last year." she strode through the doors with as much confidence as she could muster. Inside were three very poorly dressed, mopy-faced children and an empty table that all their eyes seemed to be fixed on.

She cleared her throat rather loudly, hoping to draw attention to herself as well as the new outfit that she bought yesterday just for the occasion.

@mila_titan was perfectly within her bounds. This here is a matter of perception. Of course the other characters don't think they're poorly dressed, but Jane thinks so, so she's allowed to say that. Similarly, if all the characters inside are disappointed, then mopey is a legitimate description (as far as this character can tell). She's not putting words in anyone's mouth or forcing them into actions. It's just her perception of the scene. There has been no breaking of the rules.

Noah glanced up as another boy voiced his own disappointment. "Tell me about it," he muttered. His statement was interrupted halfway by someone in the doorway clearing their throat. He glanced over his shoulder to shook them a frustrated look, but the judgment evaporated as he realized that it was a pretty girl. His mouth twisted into an embarrassed smile, and he quickly turned around again. However, the noise hadn't caught only his attention.

"Sorry!" a voice came from the back. In a moment, Professor Birch came jogging out with a clipboard under his left arm.

Noah blinked with surprise. This was his first time actually seeing a Pokemon Professor--watching TV interviews with Professor Oak of Kanto didn't count. Birch looked far different than he had expected. In stark contrast to the neatly pressed dressed shirts and pleated slacks of Professor Oak, Birch wore khaki shorts and a blue t-shirt, with open-toed sandals. His hair was slightly too long and most likely unbrushed, and a beard was creeping up his chin.

"Hey there, kids," he greeted warmly. "Applying for licenses?"

Sirius heard a girl behind him and he glanced over his shoulder and saw a rather pretty girl standing behind him. He then looked back around as a man khakis and a t-shirt and he realized who it was. "Uh, h-hi Professor Birch," he said nervously, he had heard many good things of the Professor and he didn't want to make a bad impression. "Yeah, I was here to get my license but there are no more Pokemon so I guess I'll be leaving." Sirius said already turning back towards the door.

Jane gave a confident smile as some of the boys turned to look at her. Content that she finally got the attention she so craved, she advanced towards the professor and the other kids. She didn't really mind that the table was empty, this wouldn't be the first time she had arrived late and missed out on getting her starter pokemon. She thought to herself about all the years precious when she had come up with some excuse for why she couldn't start her pokemon training. If it weren't for her older brother's encouragement, she probably wouldn't have bothered to show up at all.

Professor Birch glanced over at the empty table. "Yeah, I'm sorry we've run out of starters so early again," he apologized. "However, you don't have to leave just yet." He flashed them all a warm smile, Sirius in particular. "I can still issue you all licenses. We have a lot of Pokemon in storage right now; I could give you each one of those! They're all local to Hoenn, but they're strong specimens. Just as good as any torchic, treecko or mudkip."

Noah's eyes widened. He wasn't out of luck yet! "Really?" he asked in disbelief.

"Really!" the professor confirmed. "Come on, I'll boot the PC up and we can all take a look through the Pokemon storage."

Sirius's eyes widened and he smiled in excitement, "Thank you, sir! This is more then I could have hoped for," he said rather gratefully. My chance at getting a license hadn't vanished as quickly as the starters had, he thought to himself. He nodded, "Lead the way, sir." He said as the Professor mentioned the PC.

He was already beginning to like the Professor. He seemed like a chilled guy and he was very nice. Sirius hoped that he'd be so laid back and cool when he was older.
