Dragon Roleplay: Egg Hatching

"She doesn't seem to understand how serious this is," he began, frustration tinging his voice. "She was willing to stretch the truth about herself to impress me--horrible, just horrible. Dragon and rider are forever, and if you lie about who you are . . ." He made a sighing noise. "But you wouldn't do that, would you?" As if he suddenly became conscious of his dark spirits, the frustration from his mind lifted, and the heat he gave off went back to normal.

@silver_winged "I've been completely truthful to all your siblings and they've all rejected me. Just when i thought one of your sisters liked me she got upset and left me. And i understand completely. If i were you it would be worse to say I love dragons when you hated dragons to try to impress one. It would be better to just say I hate dragons. But of course i do LOVE dragons if yoyr wiling to believe me"

"What the girl didn't understand is that we're communicating through our minds. We can each read each others' thoughts rather clearly; I'm able to tell if you're lying. Likewise, if you were truly paying attention, you could tell if I was lying." He hummed to accentuate his point. "For instance, your subconscious responds positively to the idea of dragons. It also isn't reacting negatively to any of your conscious thoughts, so I can conclude you're telling the truth." He seemed rather satisfied with his explanation. "I wouldn't worry too much about them," he suddenly added, seeming to remember that the girl had said something else. It seemed he had nothing more to say on the matter, however.

This question seemed to be difficult for him. "Fine, I suppose? I don't have much to compare it to, you see." He seemed unsatisfied with his answer. "I would like to be rid of it, though. There's not much to do other than talk with Elidara, or Damon, or the other dragons . . ."

The pearly egg responded with a bright "Hello!" Unlike the grey egg, which seemed content to be still, she was possessed by a youthful energy that colored each of her thoughts. Her voice was rich, elegant, but young and lively. Her greeting rang like the peal of a bell.

"Coming on a bit strong there," he commented, although he did not seem all that upset. "Whether it's you or another, I do intend to hatch today." He hummed, pleased by the idea. "I can't wait to fly."

"Well," he began, thinking carefully. It was almost amusing to watch him think; though his inner thoughts were shielded from her, their flow reflected on the heat emanating from the egg. Each new idea he thought of registered as a pulse in heat, which dwindled slowly until he thought of something new. The rhythm was almost musical. "Where do you live?" he finally asked.

Silverstarr felt a spark light in her heart. This dragon shared her personality.She could tell by the simple hello. She wiped the tears away. "Hello! How are you?" she asked the dragon nicely.

Anariel suppressed the initial reaction of a gleeful bounce and settled instead for a quick bow of gratefulness, to both the man as well as his, for surely she must be his by the closeness betrayed by their actions, dragon. The fondness with which the two seemed to hold each other in made her curiously envious but she brushed it off.

"Thank you very much sir!" she replied demurely, uncertain if she was perhaps intruding into a private moment. Then, favouring the beautiful Dragon another awed glance, she quietly made her way towards the egg that had piqued her interest a few moments prior.

Anariel padded slowly up to the black egg noting, with a sharp intake of breath, the intricate pattern of bright little speckles that decorated its dark shell. She tentatively raised her hand until her fingers touched the egg's gleaming surface as softly as a butterfly's kiss.

'Hello,' she ventured tentatively, feeling rather out of her depth, 'my name is Anariel.'

For a brief moment, Anariel felt rather silly, she had never tried to befriend a dragon before and she wondered, rather belatedly, if were certain mannerisms and customs she was supposed to adhere to.

She paused awkwardly.

'May I ask for your name?' she questioned and placed her hands a bit more firmly onto the black egg, lightly petting its surface, hoping that her actions wouldn't come across as rude or disrespectful.

With a sweep of his arm, the man bowed in turn. A sound like the tingling of falling coins alerted him to the movement of the dragon beside him. She, too, tipped her head, humming deeply in greeting. The depth of her voice caused the bed of stones to vibrate. Though many of the other riders would scoff at his behavior, it was in the nature of the man to return a respectful gesture with a respectful gesture. Additionally, he was driven by an almost subconscious desire to not be so imposing; the rider of his dragon's mother was a frightful man, of fierce appearances and few words. A mere youth back then, he'd been quaking in his boots.

As the girl proceeded to approach the eggs, their attention returned to each other. Fleetingly, the man's smile returned, and then vanished to his eyes. The dragoness blinked slowly.

'It's been twelve years, Damon,' she said.

The man simply gazed forward.

Just as before, the mental link was initiated with a deafening crackle. Again, the rider and dragon jumped, taken by surprise. The crackle lowered to a buzz, vibrating with unspeakable energy. After a moment, the slow awareness that one was being watched appeared. "You may," a male voice finally responded. It was youthfully high-toned, but showed signs of deepening as he aged. "Though I have no name to give you. My deepest regrets, Miss Anariel." Each of his words hummed with the same volatile energy that surrounded his mind.

"It's not all that important," he confessed, seeming amused with the whole thing. "It's just that I have this sort of fantasy of living in the mountains. As soon as I was told of them, I made up my mind to go."

"Well met, Silverstarr," the opalescent egg responded. "Quite the unique name you have. I do believe I have a name, although I don't know what it is. We aren't supposed to be named until we hatch, you see." She paused a moment, thinking of anything else to add. "A dragon's mother and rider are responsible for naming a hatchling, although Elidara and Damon will have to do for me."

"Oh, I'm sorry! I should have said so. Elidara and Damon are the dragon and the human man behind you." Her mind flashed what seemed to be images of them, but they weren't images, per se; instead, they were different feelings or impressions, all collected into one idea. The ideas came and went so quickly that they were hard to comprehend, but she seemed to think well of them. "My mother perished in an awful accident they won't tell me anything else about, so my brothers and sisters and I were given to different mother dragons to be given away. Elidara is my stand-in mother, you could say, and Damon is her rider. It doesn't feel quite right to call her 'mother', though."

"I feel so sad for you,but she will always be in your heart."She tryed to cheer the dragon up."unlike mine."she added quietly."I never knew my family,no one had,all i know is that they are gone,and that is a fact. I raised myself all these years.I have no family,but you do."she told the dragon.

"Oh, I'm fine," she insisted. Her spirits were not dampened in the slightest. "Really. I've had a long time to sit with this. Besides, I'm no good at being sad." She laughed merrily. "No good at all. And that sounds like quite the adventure!" she declared. "If I were you, I'd go out looking for them. Surely there's news of them somewhere."

"I don't mean to travel," he explained. The level of heat about the egg rose a bit, fueled by passion. "I mean to live there, among the great, tall mountains. There is nowhere better to fly," he added, an excited edge to his voice. "Nowhere in the world."
