Lark struggled, trying to help Esme. Avera floated in front of her. "Hey, dear, want me to heal her? I can do that you know? If you give her your energy or take these brutes' energy?"
"The latter, please. And quickly." Lark stopped struggling and tried to cut the bonds with a moderately sharp stone she had found.

The guards saw them and stopped them.
“We’re not trying to hurt you,” one of them said. She pointed to the road up ahead. “We’re taking you to see the rulers of Shaerin. As we said before, we need you to save us,”

Avera stopped casting and huffed. "If you wanted to do that, why wouldn't you have just said so? It's not right to frighten children. Especially children whose help you need desperately."

“They’re children. We don’t expect them to completely understand how important this is,” one of the other guards grumbled. “And it was on the Council’s orders to bring them here. If we didn’t restrain them, who knows what’d they do,”

Esme sighed in relief as she felt her broken bone mend and her amulet stop glowing. "Uhh, thanks?" she said to the floating teenager.

Gracie watched, frozen. She was a little nervous. She stepped a little closer to Quill.

Quill also moves closer to Gracie. "I'm feeling a little lightheaded.." He says quietly.

“Could you get us there quickly? I think some of us aren’t feeling well,” Sky asked, looking at the others. The guards nodded and continued walking.
“The castle is close. Only a few now minutes of walking and we’ll be there,” one of them said.

Avera huffed and sent a bit of glowing light towards them. Turning to Lark, she said, "Be careful about your energy and health. I'll either have to take it from you or someone else to heal others."

After a bit more walking, they arrived. A magnificent crystal palace stood before them. A sea serpent-like creature swam about in the moat, guarding the castle fiercely. One of the guards took out a crystal-encrusted pendant and held it in front of her, the gem on it faintly glowing. The drawbridge lowered and they started to walk across it.

"Wow," Esme gasped. "That is big..."

Inside the castle, there were glass pillars and golden ceiling arches. They walked up a few flights of stairs and stopped at a huge pair of doors, a dragon sleeping in front of it. The dragon woke up, saw the guards and moved out of the way. The doors opened and revealed a large room with a red velvet carpet. At the end of the hallway, there were five magnificent thrones, each with a person sitting on it. The guards next to them bowed.
“Get down,” one of them hissed to the teenagers. “This is the Council. They govern Shaerin and are only to be treated with the utmost respect,”

"Uhm..." Gracie had followed them inside. She slowly and nervously got down and bowed. She made sure she stayed near Quill.

Lark bowed as everyone else did, but it felt really, really, odd to do so. It felt awkward and old-fashioned, which she supposed it was.

Esme glared defiantly for a few seconds before following the others into a bow. How dare they....They had broken her arm! Or had they..... Esme had a weird feeling that her broken bone was related to the golden light she saw.

Sky copied the others and went down on one knee.
“So, do you know why you have been sent here?” One of the figures sitting on a throne asked the teenagers with weird kind of accent.

"No. Not really," mumbled Lark. "Something about saving Shaerin."

“Yes, that part is true,” the figure said. “But you have to know that it’s much more important than that. We completely trust you to possibly the most important mission we’ve ever issued. If you fail, we will all eventually die,”
“But we trust you,” another figure said. “Even without knowing who you are. So will you help us?”

"No way..." Quill says quietly. Were these people really telling him that the lives of an entire nation were in the hands of a group of teenagers? He turns to Gracie. "I can't do this!" He says anxiously.

"Um..." Lark looked at the council incredulously. They couldn't seriously expect her to save a land that she just mysteriously arrived in, not to mention the fact that they had literally kidnapped and dragged her to them. Avera seemed nice, but even she didn't look like she liked the council. "I don't want to," whispered Lark. She didn't want the responsibility and she felt as if she owed them nothing.

"I know it might seem hard at first," One of the council members said to Quill and Lark, as if he were reading their minds. "But you each have your Relics to help you. And we'll be watching,"

Lark frowned. That didn't feel like a valid argument. And it felt a bit creepy too.

"You were all living normal lives before this, I'm assuming," One of the members said. "But you were chosen for this right as the Plague fell upon us, before you were born, similar to what happened to us. You see, each of the Council members has lived in Shaerin their entire lives. But one day, we were chosen to be a Council member without warning. We had to take on the great responsibility of governing a huge kingdom," The member paused. "We will give you a place to stay and time to decide. But please know that the longer we wait, the more lives the Plague takes,"

Lark bit her lip and looked at everyone else. She had no idea what to do, did she even want to do this? What would she do if she refused? What would they do if she refused? What would everyone in the boat do? Avera sighed and hovered next to her, saying nothing. That at the very least, was comforting.

"Guards, please escort them to their rooms," The Council member said. "Oh, and I forgot one more thing. Since the Plague is basically draining our magic, we won't be able to open a portal to your world until it's gone,"

Esme glared at them. "So you're saying we can't return home unless we help you?" she said snidely, "that sounds like blackmail to me."

“We can’t do anything about it, unfortunately,” the member sighed. “You can stay in the palace until the Plague has been lifted, or you can expedite the process by going on the journey to help your friends. We will tell you more about the mission during your stay here,”
