I agree, the way it is now you basically just pay for creatures. It seems like more of a shop than a game site. I have fun here, but the site seems like shopping with extra steps (purchase CC, finding trades). Is that what the developers want the site to be?

I agree with @chapus, letting players get one current CSP with hard work instead of just money would improve the site. Let free players have access to all of the site's features but make it a slog so that purchasing CC is still incentivized.

Another good point made. Allowing users to earn CC or at least make CC more accessible would definitely encourage more users to participate in various site events and increase the overall activity on EC. Would then also make trading for re-releases/ acquiring said re-releases more accessible...

Yeah, I find it irritating that EC doesn’t have an option to filter or disable notifications for things other than forum pings. Nearly every pet site I’ve ever played has had this option. Plus I don’t care about the blog.
