Solos shifted, considering his options. His coal grey eyes sparkled and flickered from side to side as he attempted to judge the size of the crowd. 'I suppose so,' he said finally, settling to be more comfortable in her arms. 'If you'd like to, that is.'

"All right then," he replied, although his tone suggested that he would not forget the action immediately. He abandoned dwelling on this sentiment rather quickly as he offered a response to her question.

"A well-trained mind-voice would not require physical contact to initiate communication, no. It is merely a convenience. Physical contact, without going into too much detail, creates a direct bridge between the energies of two entities. It enables the trained individual to immediately ascertain where, and to some degree how, the other is." He paused uneasily for a moment. "I may also add that mental communication is a bit different for everyone. I've been told that I see energy in far more detail than most; I've heard others describe their experience predominantly in terms of color, or sound."

The black egg appeared to bristle, its lights glowing bright for a moment and then dimming. By instinct, it seemed, he was opposed to the idea of such brazen speech. The longer he considered it, however, the less it seemed to offend him. "Perhaps it would be nice to be friends, Miss Anariel," he agreed evasively. His tone was still slightly uncomfortable.

A sense of relief seemed to wash over him as he was presented with a question he was fully capable of answering. "I hate to keep mentioning energy, but the sky's charge seems to change. The earth responds as well; nature shifts subtly in response to the weather. I don't think I could explain exactly how I know, but I am absolutely positive."

Solos seemed wholly content in his current appearance, despite the fact that some of his feathers looked a bit black at the tips (perhaps stained by the smoke from its egg or the earlier fire). 'I am,' he responded, tilting his head up a bit higher as he stared out toward the mouth of the cave.

All of a sudden, Sound was hit by a random arrow, straight in the heart. She collapsed, dead.
Aliera was sad.

...now Aliera is open for a rider :/

Anariel nodded half-heartedly at Dragon?s thorough explanation in response to her question regarding the matter of mind voices, too preoccupied with trying, futilely, to remember all the nuances of his detailed clarification. She suddenly wished that she had carried a notebook of sorts so she would be able to at least jot down some of the incredible facts he was communicating so eloquently.

She paused curiously in the middle of her furious mental recording to peek at the egg in her hands.

"If I may clarify," she started uncertainly, "you are able to discern 'how' the other is? As in, my feelings...?" Suddenly, Anariel felt rather embarrassed about, what must be, a constant stream of unfiltered emotions that she was projecting onto him.

As such, she could only nod rather distractedly at his reply to her rather forward declaration moments ago.

Too preoccupied, and mortified, by the possibility that instead of impressing Dragon with her intellect and speech as she had hoped, the reality of matters was that she had probably made him uncomfortable with her lack of control over her emotions.

She forced a smile onto her face, "thank you Dragon, I am honoured to be given the privilege."

(( Oh gawd, this monstrous post just goes on and on! ))

(( Bloop. This is my side account. And ackk, I'm sorry, I seemed to have forced a moment of truth. ^^; ))

Pausing briefly to gather all her stray feelings into a tight mental box, Anariel continued mildly, "please do not worry Dragon, everyone has an affinity to something, perhaps you just happen to be more attuned with the various types of energy?"

She stopped uncertainly and distractedly tapped one hand against her leg, she had been contemplating for a few moments previously, but now...

"Perhaps," she began slowly, testing each word as it came out for the level of inexplicable sadness it bought, "it would be best if we concluded our conversation for the day."

Anariel fidgeted a bit more and continued, biting her lips at the unfairness of the whole situation as she did so, "as it seems I am simply taking time away from your search for your rider."

She would not be so selfish so as to monopolize even more of his precious time. Anariel cast a fond glance at the egg in her hand, Dragon deserved to find his rider so he can finally experience the world.

And who was she to stand in his way?

Solos offered no reply, but instead stared firmly out at the mouth of the cave.

He had to squint his eyes against the bright rush of sunlight that issued forth, emitting a slight growl of discomfort. He could just barely pick out several figures standing in front of the cave.

"Not exactly," he sputtered. His tone, however, indicated that he had a very keen read on her emotions. "In general, a well-trained individual can completely shadow the mind of the other. But I would never be so forward as to do that to a potential companion." His voice began to rise as he nearly exclaimed his last sentence, but fell to normal tone before he truly began to shout.

The static undertone of his voice crackled slightly as his emotions peaked, coming to focus again after having faded to white noise.

"If you would like, I could distance the communication a bit more so that your feelings are more private," he murmured abashedly.

Reflexively, he replied, "You are quite welcome," although the statement was entirely hollow.

"With my parentage in mind, I should think I'd be attuned to energy," he replied, forcing his tone back to evenness. There seemed in him a hope to continue speaking normally. Of course, with her next words, the mild static surged back to an alarmed crackle. -c

He began to say something but choked on his statement, only issuing a mildly surprised noise. With a guilty feeling emanating from him, he took a few moments longer to organize a genuine statement.

"Well," he began, voice as cordial as ever, "if you must be going, then I shall not hold you back. But I am not obliged in any way to send you on at the moment." He made a quavering sound, as if he had more he wanted to add but was socially compelled not to. "T-time is of no object, Miss Anariel."

Anariel made a small sound of protest at Dragon's worried words and tapped her fingers quickly against her thighs, a habit of doing so having been ingrained into her during childhood whenever she was stressed or worried.

She was feeling both at the moment. Not to mention the embarrassment and the slowly creeping sense of shame at having worried Dragon to the point where she could discern the discomforted static in his voice. Anariel opened her mouth to reassure the egg in her hands, then floundered as she realized with a sinking feeling that she could not quite force the right words out.

Eventually, she spoke, rather softly, a hint of guilt tinging her tone, "I apologize Dragon, I did not mean to imply that you were taking advantage of our link."

Anariel tapped a bit harder, her fingers singing a agitated staccato beat, "I am simply feeling rather..."

She stopped, she wasn't quite sure how she felt, that much was obvious. The swirling myriad of emotions within her was beginning to sap her energy and after an awkward pause, she finished, rather lamely in her opinion, "out of my depth."

Unable to bear the sudden uncomfortable feeling that had permeated the conversation, Anariel consciously stilled her tapping hand and placed it back on the surface of the black egg.

"Would you mind me asking about your ancestry?" she questioned quietly and paused, hoping her next words wouldn't be perceived as intrusive, -c

When Dragon made an odd noise, she looked down in concern, then paused so she could listen to his words.

"Anariel," she correctly automatically, then furrowed her brows as the meaning of Dragon's words sank in. She gave the egg in her hands a bewildered look, one that quickly shifted to uncertainty and embarrassment.

She wasn't sure if she was interpreting his intentions correctly.

At this point, the last thing she wanted would be to leave and Anariel was afraid that her desire to stay was twisting the meaning of Dragon's polite words.

For a brief moment, she felt frustration, at both herself and her current conversation partner. Anger at herself for becoming so quickly attached to an individual who was obliged to be polite regardless of his opinion of her, and anger towards Dragon for being so insufferably hard to read.

Not that it was truly his fault, but it made her feel better to distribute the blame.

Eventually, Anariel bit her lips and sighed. She stroked the smooth eggshell in her hands with trembling fingers. "I would love to stay if you would allow me to," she began, eyes wide with sincerity and solemnity, "but would you not rather find your rider first?"

She hesitated, "I can not imagine that you prefer staying within your shell as opposed to being able to explore the outside world?"
