The pearly egg took a long pause. "I don't know," she admitted after a while. "I guess I don't have much I can talk about now? What's hyper?"

The black egg took a long time to produce his next set of replies. The agitated static thrum was, for a while, the only indication that he was still present.

"I apologize," he finally began, slowly, "for setting you ill at ease. It is not my desire to discomfort you. If there is anything I may do or refrain from doing to help this, then please do not fear to inform me."

He took another pause, floundering. The lights upon the egg flashed slowly, rhythmically, as he processed his thoughts.

"You . . . " he began, then froze up. After a tense clearing of the throat, he responded, "you may." He seemed once more to be driven more by obligation then desire. "Ordinarily, we do not inform candidates of our natures, as it tends to influence their view. But because you seem trustworthy, I suppose I may explain."

Despite his effort to buy himself some time, organizing his next statements took another pause. The static thrum had dropped to a low pitch, reverberating deeply, sadly.

"My kind lives mostly around your southern kingdoms, most commonly in the tropical jungles or the high plains. This is due to the area's high frequency of . . . of thunderstorms." He paused now, fighting with his intentions. "We are not the most common of dragons."

"As with most dragons, the mothers are left to care for their young for around eighteen moons, until they reach adolescence. Of my kind, the females clutch between five and ten. My mother was . . . "

His voice fell away, and the static dipped to a frequency unable to be heard by humans before bubbling back up.

"She was sick. I was her only. Before I achieved sentience, she . . . "

As if from nowhere, the man appeared, kneeling beside her. With calm eyes he reached out, spreading his wide palm over the surface of the egg.

The young dragon made a vulnerable sound. Sensible to Anariel through the dragon was the man's vast love, swept like an ocean over the young dragon's mind and lapping like waves at the edge of hers. The lights upon the egg's surface danced and wavered.

The man looked up at her now, features unchanged. "We may discuss this later," he said plainly, before rising. The dragon made another small noise. "Hush now," he breathed gently before retreating to mind the cave's entrance.

"Don't go," the egg finally said. His voice was small.

The man appeared slightly startled that she'd managed to tap his shoulder without his prior notice of her. "You may," he sputtered finally, stepping aside to allow her to enter the cave.

@cqpkytty's egg isn't busy, I don't think. Other than that there's the misty egg and the bronze egg. Their descriptions are on page ten, post #8.

A response issued from the bronze egg immediately. "Bored." The voice was female, but not light nor bouncy, with a testy edge. She did not seem compelled to say any more.

"I get like that sometimes," the pearly egg agreed cheerily. She paused, then, considering the question carefully, although it seemed she'd already made up her mind. "I think so!" she declared.

Nope, misty egg is mine. Even if I told you what he was like, I don't trust anyone to play him correctly. X3 Also I have a name already picked out.

If you really like, I suppose you could create your own egg. Or another hatcher. It's up to you. (But if you made another hatcher I think I'd have to make more eggs.)

The bronze egg frowned. It was remarkable, really, how the sentiment of a frown could be communicated without the physical action. The mental effect was the same. "You don't get to give me a name," she said plainly, a bit peeved.

The girl's laughing didn't seem to calm the dragon's frustrations. The frowning feeling coming from the egg seemed to intensify. "You don't need to call me anything," she snapped.

"Okay then!" the pearly egg declared. "Just a minute, please!" She severed the mental link, leaving the cave feeling just a bit more quiet.

The first noticeable thing was the sound coming from within the egg, like a small squeak. Before long, a tiny rounded nose chipped a chunk of shell from the egg, and then another. The dragon emerged within a few minutes, literally glowing in the dim light of the cave.

She was small in stature, only about two hands long from head to the tip of her tail. Her facial features were soft and rounded, with oval pink-tinged eyes and a muzzle shape reminiscent of a goat. Her face was a pearly white color, as was her neck, belly, tail, and body. Her cheeks were a pale yellow, as were the fin-like protrusions bordering them and crowning the top of her head. She had small, graceful legs, also yellow in color, with tiny front paws and large back paws with long toes. Her wings, however, were positively dazzling; they were the shape and color of butterfly's wings, brown and yellow tipped, complexly patterned with brown, white, yellow, and even an iridescent green.

'Hello there,' she greeted warmly, stirring her wings to dispel the liquid from her egg.

@sakura2596 Medieval-era roleplay, lightbulbs don't exist.

The pearly dragon shifted again, seeming displeased by the goop that clung to her. At the same time, she seemed immensely happy to be out of the egg. 'Thank you!' she replied, too absorbed to respond with anything else.

The large dragon exhaled deeply, a rather loud noise meant to draw their attention. 'Your mother,' she said, staring directly at the little dragon, 'said to name you Inola.'
