Update With CaveCash Gifting

in General

Deleted • 25 April 2013 at 9:28 AM

@Ian

Oh gosh, I did not say that the great mods are doing this to get money, did I?? 😱

BUT, my point is that, 80% of Egg-cavers are broke and in need of freezes. Without CC gifting, they can't get the CC without buying it.

@Ian

I comepletly understand why you did this and i'm totally fine with it! Without doing this you would've lost alot of money and eggcave wouldn't be free to play. I'm glad you did this not only because I can stay and hang on the forums with my buddies but because Nobody should be getting scammed through CC trades anymore. I love the idea of cave monthlies because my parents currently won't buy me CC so I only have 100. Definately not enough to buy the cash shop monthlies but I can still get monthlies through the cave.

No disagreement on my part!

*end of my extremely long comment*

Sincerely, Izzfred

It is okay to those who have meagre amounts of CC. But those who hoarded it to buy a Nym.. What about those people? .. Like me? :/
I wished that there would be a reminder, so I could get the CC I wanted as soon as possible

Mind if I bump this idea of mine down a little? It got a little buried. 😉 I'll quote myself here,

"Yes! Games! Chance wheel! Point system with prizes! EggCave really need to add some of these.

Like, for the chance wheel, there could be a wheel only LE available, a wheel only travel and other prizes like certain amounts of EC (maybe 1, 10, 1,000, and 100,000!) and things like freezes! That would be really really fun!"

I really think that EggCave should try to expand on some of its games. Especially something like a chance wheel!

OMG WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!

@Ian
I have a question:
What will we do with CC leftovers? Like I have 977CC, and I can't do nothing with this 7CC that will be here. What will happen about this?

@brunosc Thanks! 😉 Apparently EggCave is working on some solution for that leftover CC problem. Maybe some CC to EC converter, available for a short period of time. 😊

So let me get this straight:

Re-releasing the Christmas creatures (Florn, Foo, Roo, etc.) for one day? INJUSTICE!
Charging insane amounts of CC for them? A-OKAY!

I know this comment is going to cause some controversy, but really...a lot of times, it's the same people who complained about how unraaaaare their Foo was going to be that were quick to charge 500 CC+ for anything not readily available in the cove.

Hmph.

Okay, I'm going to question one thing and one thing only about this: Why no blog post? WHY?

I came back to Egg Cave as normal after a few days off and didn't know about this change because I'm not psychic and I don't check the forum every day for important news because I trust the blog will update - and then my RSS-feed will tell me - when something important has happened here.

Instead I come back today to a lot of rude comments and yelling on my wall for a trade of mine that said I like CC. Suddenly I'm treated like an idiot just because I didn't check the forum for news!
I was really offended and sad by those comments because I didn't know about this change when I created the lot so it's not like I broke the rules because I wanted to.

I don't think posting in the forum only is a good way to get news out. Not at all. I had NO IDEA this had happened before people started lashing out at me.
Now I've deleted the comments because I didn't want to look at them. I'm just sad and a bit mad for not having a chance to know the news before I made a complete fool out of myself in the Trade Center.

@silverserpent I agree. I think this is a big change that deserves a blog post. I was on for two days before I noticed anything about it. I know that they said it was because it was "particularly relevant to our most active and loyal players," but I feel like there are plenty of active and loyal players who aren't hearing about it.

Yes Games galore, and the prizes should be great giveaways as not everyone has time to try to do feeds as much, but they'd stay on longer if there were games. Anything really, I love Pet Battles still wanting that idea to have some merit. And the better you get at a game the more EC you can win, yay!

I like the change. Sure we'll have to change how we look at trades from now on but I think this way will be more interesting. It'll be fun for once to try & haggle creature for creature instead of trying to "grind" enough CC out of someone else just to buy a missed LE. That stuff was part of why I almost quit a few times, it just got boring. :/

@metaphor

I'll back you on that one. Their values never really went down by that much anyways, they're still just about as expensive as ever. I mean I get that people want to make a profit, it's part of the game, but too much can be a bad thing.

Are you trying to say that EC will be worth more now? That is amazing, but I feel that this should have been posted on the Blog. 😃 But now, I have 55 useless CC. Wouldn't a CC to EC converter be useful to clear out excess CC? @Ian

@Ian Thanks for this. Inevitably, there's going to be some controversy/negative comments but you can't please everyone. 😋 I do like the idea of Cave Monthlies, as long as I can catch them. xD

To those who are saying "why didn't you give us a notice" and "now we can't pay debts", Ian never intended CC to be traded and was against the idea of it (IIRC). Some people chose to ignore that (okay, I admit, I did trade CC once) and so these are the repercussions.

I'm glad to see so many people supporting this idea as I read through this thread. I'm also glad to see people willing to give this a chance and people being open-minded. Let's just see how well the community reacts and how the economy does. 😉

I do think there should be a blog post about this, however.

@musicgurl333 I never check the forum for important news. The forum is too big and I honestly don't have enough time to check it very much. I didn't even know I HAD to check it to sort of stay updated with things like this. How can any one just assume everyone check the forum? I don't get it.

This might be the final blow that drives me out of here. I personally liked the CC trading even though I got scammed once, but now it's goodbye to freezes and everything unless there's a EC to CC converter made sometime. Which won't happen because then people will feed more instead of buying CC and lets face it: This is all about money.
Egg Cave wants money and won't give it away for free. Sad, but fully understandable.

@karamel Well, if you had been yelled at and offended as if you were an idiot for not knowing about these news then you might have felt a liiiiiittle bit differently.

@silverserpent
Any insinuation that this update was motivated by profit is completely false. Ian has commented earlier on the matter and even explained how this decision is much less, if at all profitable than some users may claim. Money was not at all considered when removing the Gifting feature. Another matter that has been addressed by Ian is the possibility for other ways that non-supporters of the Cash Shop can obtain Freezes and other goods more easily.

@Meteoroid
I think that sounds noble if it's true, but since most websites are run for money and not charity I choose to believe it when I see it.

However do note that I wasn't saying that the update was about profit, I was talking about the possibility to get freezes and such without CC. People have been asking for a EC to CC converter for years. So excuse me for still being skeptical.
Like I said, if it really happens then great.

@silverserpent
Nothing is 100% set in stone, but an EC to CC converter is unlikely to be developed. There are other alternatives that are being considered at the moment for those types of items, however. We are hearing the complaints/questions/suggestions of everyone and rest assured that they will be addressed in some form or another.

@silverserpent I'll probably stick around to see how it all works out. As I said before, I kind of feel like they should have figured out solutions for some of these problems BEFORE making any changes, but I guess it's like @karamel said...they never intended CC for trading, so I guess they feel like that was a risk you took. I still think a warning would have been nice, though.

I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again since a lot of people aren't going back to read the thread. I think this COULD be a good thing, depending on how they do it. I am looking forward to seeing what they do to fix the problem with odd amounts of CC, and how they handle freezes. I would LOVE to see freezes able to be traded like items, but I feel like unless there is also a way put in place to get/earn/win freezes WITHOUT CC, making freezes tradeable will just replace CC trading. It probably wouldn't be quite as bad, because people wouldn't be able to trade small amounts of CC, but it would still be pretty much the same. I think it would work out better if you were still able to buy freezes with CC, but there was also another, longer and/or more difficult way to get freezes without CC. To me, that seems like it would really help the problem.

To the people who are saying that it's about money, I really don't agree. No matter who is buying it, all of the CC that is traded or used in the CSP has to come from somewhere. I don't think that not allowing CC trading will make more people buy CC. If anything, I think it might slightly reduce demand (although honestly I don't think there will be a significant change either way).

@musicgurl333
Nah, the removal of CC gifting was never about money. Why should it be? It's just CC being moved around the site, the money's already in the system so it's not an issue that way.
However it makes it look kind of dark and gloomy for people who want CC items and now can't get them because of this change. That's all.

I think it would have been better if CC could have been traded normally in the Trade Center just like EC because then the gifting scams wouldn't exist. Offer CC > accept > transfer. There's no way things could go wrong because you can't accept the trade without automatic transfer, right? So no more gifting CC and then waiting forever for a trade that's never going to be accepted. Or the other way around.
But, hey, that's just another wish that's been around and ignored for like... years. *shrug*

Anyway... I'm going to let this drop now. I'm still mad about there not being any kind of notification, but the change to the rules... Well, fine. I can live with that. I don't know what to trade for anymore, but if some sort of no-CC-freezes are on the way then good. I'll stick around a bit longer.

I dislike this.

First off, now we can't transfer CC to people for trading. People aren't going to trade an old CSP for EC. Also, what about birthday gifts and stuff? I'd rather send my friend CC than EC. Leftover CC will be wasted, and people who cant buy CC can't trade for it.

Im also disappointed about cave monthlies. Mirkangs and Luicales are great creatures and all, but they have really low values because of the fact that they were released all month long. IF the cave monthlies had to be purchased with EC it would give them some value.

@bluenatty
CC wasn't meant to be traded in the first place. It was suppose to be just for gifting to other users. People abused that and all the trades in the trade center became "CC ONLY" which wasn't fair to those who had no way to get CC.

The staff has also said many times they're thinking of ways to help with this left over CC. It hasn't been decided what yet.

Commenting on the money/profits discussion: Actually, I think that the money income could go down. Less people would buy it because they can't trade it (but more people would buy it for the same reason), so it would be a (sort of) balanced situation. 😋

I'm still for this update and all that, but (yes I'm the devil's advocate in all arguments) in the FAQ, take a look at the answer to "Why does CaveCash require real-life money?"

Not sure if "intrusive" and "invade" were meant literally or as a figure of speech (literally = pop-ups everywhere and complete ad-chaos; figure of speech = annoying ads but just on the side).

[If it was meant literally, then ignore the rest. xD]

But we still have ads from Google's Adsense thing and we also have CC. The FAQ implies ("...as opposed to...") that the CC is there to replace the ads as a source of income, if you like. Why is that? :I

Apologies in advance if I sound irritated -- I'm honestly not and all for it. I'm pleased to see that the staff/team are taking people's opinions/suggestions into account and trying to make Egg Cave a better place in general. 😊

@bluenatty You can still trade CC, but in the form of creatures. So if someone offered 2000 CC on my Squearth, I would get creatures in the CSP instead of the actual CC.

That's what people did before CC gifting was available. That's what I did too. I survived.

And CC was never meant to trade through the Gifting feature, so you have nothing to lose. 😋
