Hey everybody!

It's finally here! The Monthly Challenge is now available for verified main accounts. We'd love for this new feature at Egg Cave to be guided by the community to create something that's challenging but ultimately fun for everybody.

This thread is meant to serve as a central hub for all community discussion related to the new Monthly Challenge system.

New to the Monthly Challenge? Please play the Monthly Challenge for at least 3 to 5 days before submitting your critiques and feedback. Initial reactions are welcome but give it a think before you write a longer post.

Things We're Open To

• Fine-tuning the difficulty of the various dailies
• Adding or removing different types of dailies
• Changing the rewards earned
• Tweaking overall numbers for everything

Feedback That's Not Helpful

• Grumbling about the grind without suggesting an alternative
• Mad about main account verification (this is for anti-cheating and will not be changed)
• Suggesting an absurdly high CC reward—there is a reality to the "free tier" Monthly Challenge versus directly buying CC from the site

And now... discuss! Thanks for playing, everybody. I know you've been waiting a long time for this. ❤️ 😸

Hi! I guess I will be first to make a suggestion.
I am currently unable to verify my main because I don’t have a cell phone =/
But I hope to verify someday! Anyway I was thinking as a suggestion for people
Maybe a quest idea could be donating to the adoption or the donation center ? It would be a way to give people maybe an incentive to do those things. This can help pets circulate even? Just a suggestion ^^

Like also even maybe there could be a system somehow that determines the “value” as in if the pet is a cave common or a csp. And you get more points theee better the dddonation.
Maybe kind of how the vend machine works even maybe you get tokens and the creatures value per token or something? Idk just ideas ^^

Thanks everyone!

I'm sure I'll have more thoughts after a few days, but my initial impression is I LOVE THIS. One of the things I immediately noticed and liked was that it's not *just* about getting CC at the end of the month. I think the small ec rewards for each task is a great little incentive, and I like the idea of a higher chance of getting a cave monthly after completing the day's dailies (although I'll admit I was a bit confused on the blog post wording vs what actually happened, the "100% increased chance' sounded to me like it'd be a guarantee, like 100%.)

I like the idea of a task being donating to the donations center, I think that would be fun and help an under-used feature get some attention. Less supportive of donating to the adoption center, since that requires a lot more effort and sacrifice (have to have a cove slot for the creature to begin with, have to pick up a creature you don't want or try to find one you have and don't mind giving up, plus there is a fee to put a creature up there...)

(Just my opinion, but I think the CC reward amount is pretty great, a good balance to make it worth participating but still have buying being the main way to get it.)

edit: small suggestion though, could we have an option to collapse the dailies side-bar box? Or an option to make it go away after completing all the dailies? It takes up enough space that I have to scroll down to see things like my ec balance, happiness, etc, and the box doesn't actually do anything or help anything after you've already completed them all.)

I was going to wait the requested time, but I figure this would only get longer as the days go on.
(and I really want to close my oopsie thread.)

My initial thoughts.
(I start out sounding quite grumpy, but assure you my overall opinion of the Monthly Challenge is positive.)

Voting on Unvaulting Creatures

(First off want to get this out of the way since it was released in the same announcement.)

I was expecting that official voting would be a poll system, like when we were voting to keep re-releases around in the first place. Barring that, listing some parameters would be appreciated. Having to pick from 1000+ species can be a bit overwhelming. And how do we even know if creatures we *want* to see have any chance or a re-release and aren't just being wasted.
Having it wide open without a narrowed down field isn't any better than than just posting in the forums (which is fine, but I was expecting some sort of official feeling to it. Some sense of organization.)

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE ACCIDENTALLY CLICK THE RED X?!?!?! Does the box come back, or have we lost our vote for the month?

Monthly/Daily Challenges to earn CC

Surrrrrre, by the initial statements in the blog post I thought this was going to be easy.
I do well past feeding 300 creatures in a day.

But then I open the Challenge page and am met with a huge wall of NOPE.
(A whole bunch of activities I purposely ignore to make my time on the site more enjoyable personally.)

But let's start off with legitimate critique and not just whining.

- Aesthetic - I would prefer for the Dailies sidebar meter to be below the main sidebar (profile, bank/on-hand ec, shop till, etc.) I use the main stuff quite frequently and it's annoying have to scroll past the progress meter.
(Several people including heatherm19 suggested being able to minimize the Dailies box, and I'd be okay with that too.)

*Personal* grievance with posting to someone's Wall being a daily challenge. It's Hypocritical to say "No Spam", yet that's exactly what it's encouraging. (And I usually HATE when people post to my Wall to comment about anything other than my creatures' names or profiles, so I avoid posting to other peoples)
- I thought for sure this was going to be something we'd have to have a cooperation thread about where people could post that their Wall is Achievement-friendly. ...Then I accidentally discovered that you can post to your own wall and have it count when I went to make one of my normal blog-like comments to my own. (I will be HIGHLY disappointed if posting to our own Wall is taken away because of this new achievement thing. Another site has it coded in where you can't and I feel so stifled.)
(Though it wouldn't be full compensation if the ability to post on our own walls is removed, it would help if we get a section for quick notes to ourselves. Separate from mail, that we can just as easily delete as Wall posts.)
- And the 30-second timer is SO annoying! I often mess something up when I do post to others' Walls and need to rework it . (embarrassing typo, didn't link properly, etc.) The time-span it takes for me to copy, paste, and fix is *usually* less than 30 seconds. (Or so I thought. I don't remember getting that message before.)

Most of the rest of my objections are just personal preferences.
For example:
- I don't *want* any creatures in the click exchange... therefore I've never been able to click any that are in it.
- And Alkub racing goes against my moral code of no gambling (it doesn't have a big enough temptation like the Lottery does to persuade me to use it. ...and I still sort of feel uneasy about that.)

(So either I suck it up and comply, or I just don't get an extra 100 CC at the end of the month.
No suggestions for replacement Dailies, as I'm not asking for you to get rid of those.)

That being said...
Overall I think it looks really nice and is off to a good start ^^ I could see it being a great addition to the site and helping out a lot of players ^^

People have been asking for a long time for the Click Exchange to become more active, and the team definitely listened. I really think this will help in that. (Putting aside my personal feelings, I'm really happy for them with this!)

@/idol had a FANTASTIC idea, that I wholeheartedly support.
I'd LOVE for one of the daily quests in the month (maybe a few times) being donations to the Donation Center. (maybe 3 items?) It could really help out new players, questers, etc.

- I think the difficulty level is fair
- I think the requirements are fair
- I think the rewards are fair

- - -
Edited for minor grammatical errors, and small addendum.

i absolutely LOVE this idea.
i have waited so long for a dailies system. and its finally here! ^^
i noticed one of the dailies require you to post a profile wall comment on 3 peoples profiles.
my wall is open to all comments if anyone needs it XD

Initial critiques:
- I agree with heatherm19 that the wording on the blog post about the monthly chance was really confusing and not what I was expecting at all
- Like snowywinter said, saying that spam isn't tolerated doesn't change the fact that this will increase the amount of people commenting useless and ingenuine things just to complete the quest

Otherwise I love the idea and will return in several days with more thoughts!

Now that I'm thinking more about the different tasks, I'm wondering if this would be a good reason to make certain profile-relate things official? Specifically, some official thing on our profile (maybe in the box where joined/friends/etc is) saying if our cove is feed-friendly or not. And possibly also something to show if we accept unprompted/random wall comments. Now that those things are included in a really big new feature, it may be helpful to have that info shown more prominently.

@heatherm19 definitely a good time to make an official feed-friendly icon/button for profiles.
(Though I mentally got a chuckle thinking about what if they only gave us two options at first and a third was voted in... "It's Complicated." >.< )
But really at minimum there should at least be:
Feed-Friendly
Feed Tab(s)
Do Not Feed

As for Wall posting... maybe a button for that would work too.
I just don't know why it can't have a toggle in preferences like mail, friend requests, and pings.

Voting on Unvaulting Creatures - i clicked on the vote button - thought it would take me to another page with a more options other than a text field - something more organised and focused than a random pick from 1000+ creatures.

now i cant vote anymore - it submitted a blank vote.

would be best to remove the daily to comment on people's walls - its unwanted most of the time, and now it will definitely just be spam, which is what the 'rules' state is not allowed

Voting on Unvaulting Creatures

Agree with @snowywinter

I have so many questions...

1. Is there any scale, table to check how voting is going on?
2. How many creatures from "Vote scale" will be released? What about the price?
3. What will happen with "old" rerelease event?
4. Cen be voted for rereleased creatures in last two years?

Monthly/Daily Challenges to earn CC

Maybe decrease 25 Monthly Challenges to 22 😊

Thank you for the anwers 😊

But I love the whole idea about the event !! Just finished it for the firs time

I'm enjoying the concept so far! I'm thrilled to see incentives to use site features more, like the click exchange, and I hope to see the exchange flourish as a method to level up our babies once again.

All that said, I do feel like the rewards for completing daily quests are a bit lacklustre? 438 EC for (admittedly) an easy task still felt a bit like a fart in the wind. What do we think of getting items out of the rewards? Nothing too special or fancy, just store items! They feel a bit more substantial than a couple hundred EC that I could earn in 4/5 clicks anyways.

I think some potential tasks could also revolve around quests and stores! Buy x amount of items from user stores, list x amount of items in your store, redeem x amount of quests.

Another potential could be to do with the creatures themselves, such as applying travels or using items.

All this said, I am absolutely thrilled to see this new step forward for EggCave. Onward to a future where all members have the potential and freedom to earn CC!

So far, I'm 80% thrilled with the concept of the dailies. My only issue is the forced interaction (ie commenting). As someone who suffers from anxiety, there are days I have trouble talking to my self. Talking to others with no purpose other than to tick a box, isn't sitting totally well.

In saying that, I think I've found a work around that will suit me for profiles assuming that spamming will only count if reported. If it's forum comment, I hope that the games boards count.

My first impressions of the Monthly Challenge:

I like the whole idea and have already started completing the dailies, which is not so easy for me because I work full time.

I agree with some people's not liking the (daily?) task of posting on other people's walls. Whether you want to hear it or not - this is spam.

Furthermore, I'm not so happy with the 25 days every month to fulfill the challenge. What about players on vacation with high cell phone costs or no internet at all? Or players with long working hours? They would be out of the challenge for the respective month. An alternative could be 125 single tasks to be done in any period during the month. Then you could solve more tasks on days with lots of free time and fewer on days with little or no time/internet.

Just my 5 cents... 😊

Overall, though, it's a great idea that will be a lot of fun.

We get a chance to spin for the cave monthly as a prize for completing all dailies, right? Then why is it cut out of our daily 10 tries at the cave? If it is a prize, it should come as a bonus, not a...minus.

For the voting I used this link, type "march" in search, it will show any march (or what month you need) creature, just check in archives here if it is a CS one, usually yes.

My thoughts only...
*I DO NOT want ppl posting on my wall.
*Too many days for dallies. 25? Really! I have rl going on also.
*I dont normally use the click/feed exchange. Dont care for it. Can feed/click on all acts already.
*I feel as though Im being pushed to do more on ec now. Hard enough with the events going on & now 25 days w/5dallies??? That is too much for me w/rl.

With that said, im happy for the ppl that like the new dallies. As for me, it definitely needs to be tweaked or I most likely wont have the time to win the 100cc @Ian. Thx. ❤️

Update: Don't think I will be doing this next month.

I like the concept of dailies but hate forced social interaction. I don't like feeling obligated to talk to people to complete my dailies. Please let user interaction be organic and not weird/forced.

So I decided to give a little feedback on the challenge, which I can note right away. I prepared myself, specially made measurements of the time it would take for clicks and feeds or other things, then I began to count.

Well, if you work with a PC, then it will take about 10 minutes for all the dailies (with a third-party extension that people use to open several links at once, don't tell me that people don't use them ha-ha). It's not that much, it's fast, but on mobile it will be a nightmare. Get ready for the fact that people will complain that 300+ or 200+ clicks and feeds on mobile phones will cause disgust. I'm sorry but I won't even try, I know how much time it eats.

The next object of my attention was the item about comments in user profiles. In principle, this is not scary, but there are people on the site who write in their profiles that they are shy and do not want to communicate. Well, in principle, you can leave them without any attention - and that's right, let them get out of their closets! Like a little cruel, but OK, they want money, let them try. ...Or not?

For me, there is not much difference to write or not to write something in the profile. But the difference is that voluntarily I will HONESTLY write that I am glad to see someone or wish someone a good day, but friendliness for the sake of the prize is... it's not the same anymore, is it?

As for the games. They're not interesting. I hope this horror will be the least. To face disappointing losses EVERY SINGLE DAY - are you sure you want to raise the statistics?

Okay, enough games, let's move on to really serious things.

The first and most important thing is the reward.

You know, to get 100CC, I don't need to run around the site for a whole month clicking creatures and I don't need to come to you for 25 days as a job. It's enough just to find a good person who will exchange these pathetic 100CC for one million EC and you know what? It will take me much less time. If it were 200CC, it would be justified. This already sounds like an interesting reward that I would like to strive for, because 100CC caused me a fit of laughter, sorry. AND, here's a little math in rounded numbers: for each daily is given a reward of symbolic 500-700. God, this is just ridiculous. Well, really, it would be better not to have them, cos visually after 10-15K that you collect during the daily, these numbers simply do not look even seriously. What will 456 EC, or maybe 762 EC, change? M?

The second is of course the time zones. Of course, nothing can be done about it, but I think that the site adheres to stability: it stably ignores the accounting of time zones. Well, what can I say here - thank you for a stable strategy! And casino-style pop-up creatures for an increased chance - I hope I'll never see this again, because gachi-mechanics this is not what I would like to see here, thank you.

And still I am absolutely in love with the idea of dailies. I feel there is potential here, just try to refine it. If it turns into a routine, I just won't play. After all, there are people in not very good condition who will find it difficult, there are schoolchildren among the audience who also do not have enough time. Well, it's not that this desire to make everything easier - just more exciting, diverse and not so STUFFY.

I agreed - it's wonderful concept. Just don't force me to buy something in stores or make dailies like "do something in your cove", it's awful.

Overall, I think the idea of a monthly/daily challenge system is great! Realistically however, I think it would be best to tone it down a bit, or to make it easier/less demanding. A l o t of players on eggcave are adults with jobs, lives, and kids now, and don't have the hours a month to dedicate to playing now.

Like others have previously said, I hate the idea of having to comment on someones wall to complete a daily challenge. While I was lucky today, as I was trading and could brush it off, most of the time I play eggcave silently and don't interact with people a ton. It seems a bit antisocial, but it's how I'm comfortable playing and I'd rather not have a daily challenge have me go against how I prefer to play.

On the 'people have lives' note - anything more than two or three daily challenges seems like a lot, and can be a bit time consuming if you aren't able to dedicate a window of your day to play the game. I'm in a position where the only time I actually sit down and play eggcave regularly is in the early morning when work is slow, or when I'm going to bed. Personally, I don't have time to play when I'm off work a lot, or when work is busy.

As a last thing, I feel like the daily rewards system is missing a lot of the 'instant gratification' that people need to do these kinds of daily tasks. I understand it gives us EC, as well as a monthly at the end, but it's not gratifying enough to be motivation to continue on with 5 or so tasks a day. The ec amount is minimal, and I earned more by completing the feeding task itself than I did with finishing the four tasks I've done today.

Not trying to make this ranty, that's just my feedback! Overall a great idea, but could use some tweaking! ❤️

A fantasyic way for the ones, who do not have much money to spend on CC.

Just one BUT... I do not like the idea of spaming the profiles. For it will be spam, no matter what you do. Not all of us like to chit chat with others, do not know everyone... I think that the better option would be : "Leave 3 posts on any thread of social forum". There is always something that one can write about there.

I like the dailies system so far!

One thing: I play primarily on mobile, and using the click exchange is a lot slower/more difficult of a task since it opens a new tab each time. It's a lot slower than just clicking through my cove to feed my creatures. Maybe the number of clicks for the click exchange tasks could be reduced?

I will be honest that after I read the part about verifying my account with a valid phone number I stopped reading and any fleeting interest I had went right out the window.

Why? First off I play on a desktop. Secondly I have no cell phone, smart type or not, so I am excluded for that reason alone and even if I did have a cell phone I am very leery of giving out my number so it can be sold to advertisers. (that is not why people have phones so they can be harassed by telemarketers, fyi)

See..the same cell phone debacle was played out when this site 'generously' was giving out some Cave Cash but the requirement was you to give out your cell phone number even for those of us who were here for years; I am well aware you claimed it was ONLY for identification but believe me, I am old enough and smart enough to know that these things are NEVER secure and there are other reasons why this site is collecting this information I wager.

Anyways..it all sounds nice but already a great many of us are already excluded if we don't have cell phones.

Oh and another thing, because this site is so hung up on handing over ones cell phone info, does this infer that any new members must hand it out or else they can't join?

P.S: I am not 'mad' about the cell phone thing PLUS there does seem to be quite a list of requirements to fulfil.
I'd read more but since I can't verify my account I can only go by assumptions that the list may be hard to fulfill to its maximum. Are the challenges consecutive or can it be completed as long as certain requirements are met?

I really like what @alraune3 suggested about the requirements being a number of tasks to complete, not a specific number of days you have to complete all the tasks. Especially at a number like 25, that leaves at most 6 days of wiggle room. I know a lot of people on here are school-age and I've seen many profiles mentioning they can't be on during weekends or somesuch. Requiring 25 days out of the month means that most people who have lives, responsibilities, jobs/school, will find it very difficult to keep up. If it's instead a specific number of tasks that you can complete at any time during the month, people who can't be here every day will be able to put in some more time on the days they can be here and still get the tasks done and get the rewards.

That said, for an *optional* feature that allows *more* players the chance to get CC, I think this is a pretty good start!

(excuse any typos, keyboard is dying)

I just wanted to chime in on my opinion.
For all those commenting you don’t want post on your wall or have to “forcefully interact with people”

I would argue most of us are pretty friendly on here especially if
Maybe you just sent a friendly message like “hey I’m just doing a quest sorry to bug you but wanted to say I hope you have a good day” something small and inoffensive possibly?

I assume the entire point of the wall post thing is to try to actually get not only people more active again but what is wrong with trying to make a new friend?
I feel personally it gives a more friendly insensitive to try to talk to people with no awkwardness cause you might have a common goal?

I personally would love to have more friends on the site or a way to better talk and try to interact with people. I miss when this site used to feel more active and like a community and I think that’s the step they might have had in mind.

But there clearly has to be some kind of happy medium? I understand some people may not want to interact at all but.. I personally don’t really get how those people even trade on here so I’m sorry for that inconvenience to those people who don’t like interacting at all ☹️ so

**Maybe there could be a setting in every persons profile to even turn off commenting on your wall?? Could that solve that problem??
Or to even leave comments to friends only?? As an option?? Is that possible?

Edit-
Also I know I’m not doing the task but I agree with @alraune3 and @heatherm19

Even reading that you have to do like 3-5 task for 25 days and some of those days you might have to click 300 creatures and that’s only one task? I personally am not much of a clicker cause I play on my tablet and I think it takes too much time already.
Imagine doing that + other task for 25 days straight and I’m not trying to be rude but just to get 100 cc it’s a nice bonus to like “collect while doing task” but I just suggest some of the numbers be a bit tweaked for more casual players or people who only have 10-20 min to be online at a time. (Sorry I’m done for now XD)

I love how everyone is coming together to work on this together ❤️

Hearing all the complaints and justifiable points made about people having real life taking precedence, I think @alraune3 suggested a workable solution. Instead of having to do tasks on X number of days, have X number of tasks to complete total.
(I think it could be done in blocks so that the system isn't overwhelmed in the beginning of the month. Like you could only do a maximum of 1/5 the requirements in a day. 5 days in the month seems like a fair balance.)

Wait, if this true... monthlies are cut out of our Cave attempts if we get one at the Challenge?
If that's true I'm COMPLETELY against that "perk".

@suzanab thank you for the link! I totally forgot how useful that one can be! (and about it entirely. fandom.com got way too many adds in recent years and I just got complacent in eggcavity being the go to resource >.<)

@/caylith suggested a great alternative. Instead of specific social requirements for the day, i.e. Wall posts, Forum Posts, Blog comments; make it a generalized "Social Interactions." Some people prefer one over all the others. (You could up it to 5 instead of 3 if they're all applicable.)
I understand the whole point is to get people to try something new, get out of their comfort zone, and try different aspects of the site they may have forgotten about. But many of us HAVE tried different things and found what works for us. No amount of incentive if going to change that.

Ok, firstly I really don't like being forced (well, kind of forced as if there are 3 or more of the "post a comment" tasks in this month, then I have to complete it at least once to be able to get the month's reward) to post on other people's profiles. (Yes I did work around that by posting on mine as well as one other)....
It's very hard to find something to say which doesn't end up being the definition of spam, especially when you normally avoid posting like I do (I have a real problem with socialising, whether that's face-to-face or online).

The click exchange isn't a problem for me - I've previously just got an egg as 'click exchange fodder' if I didn't have a creature I wanted to include in there.

It was a bit of a novelty clicking through 300 creatures & feeding 200, but if most of the days are like that, then I can see me getting bored pretty rapidly! I don't know if I could see myself sticking it out for 25 days...
Maybe if (as suggested in this thread) it was X tasks for the month, rather than having to do 25 days, it might make it feel less of a job, or at least mean we could spread the tasks over days that suit us better (like weekends / days off work / college / school)?

And finally, what on earth is a "100% increased chance" - I don't see what you're trying to say here, and I'm a native English speaker! Any chance of rephrasing that to make it a lot clearer please?? If you mean the chance is doubled, then could you just say it? 😊

I am personally pretty disappointed Am I the only one on here that wants to interact with people? ☹️

Everyone is so nice why does no one want to talk to anyone? I thought it was because of the lack of activity but I guess that’s not true just everyone wants to play solo?
☹️ well as long as everyone is getting their goals that’s really cool.

@ian
I think still somehow maybe whenever the site updates again if it ever gets to update again ^^
Maybe in the settings there could be an option friends are only allowed to post on your wall or no one at all.
Just a suggestion.

@idol

For me personally, I don't mind people posting on my wall at all! I just don't like having to go out of my way of comfortably playing to post on other people's walls. I reach out to people in regards to trades and such when I need to, but the forums would make a much better space for socializing for the daily/monthly tasks if they were to continue for a social aspect.

It's less about outright not being social, and more about being able to be social at my own discretion, without a bonus or reward trying to incentivize me to interact even if I'd rather not.

@idol Some of us have EXTREME social anxiety to the point we can need to sleep after a short conversation, or end up having PTSD triggered.
(Some days even sending a short text message to RL peeps can have me going right back to bed.)

That being said, the WALL is NOT the 'be all, end all' of socialization.

The forums and private messages do quite well for socializing and trades.

Personally (and I'm not the only one) trying to mentally keep up with the back and forth of the wall literally gives headaches and migraines. (Some people get around it by copy & pasting to a separate document, but is is still a MAJOR inconvenience for most with this issue.)

Just because people don't want posts on their wall doesn't mean they don't like socializing. (Even if the majority here in this thread against the dailies requirement are on the non-socializing scale, in my experience not posting on the wall does not equate to a level of chattiness. I've had plenty of GREAT conversations with non-Wall posters in both PMs and the forums. And PM peeps can attest to just how chatty I get.)

Sometimes conversations in forums are like being at one pig party, and other times you want to just have a one on one with someone without others butting in. ...And people definitely butt in on Wall comments.

There used to be a whole community of chatty Wall folks around here. (maybe they still are IKD, that's usually a whole separate world I mostly ignore.) If it's that important to you, you will find them and vice versa. ^^ They're a lovely cheerful bunch.
Maybe you could post a "Seeking Wall-chat Friends" Thread in the chit-chat forum ? *shrug emoji* It couldn't hurt.

p.s. I think @foreigners hit the nail on the head too with the point being not having socializing being incentivized, that I rather it be something people just come to on their own around here.
I think that's one of the things what was grating on my nerves, that I couldn't quite put into words.
(Sure, it was one on the things someone suggested, but apparently it has hit a nerve with a lot of people that this is how the team chose to go about it.)

Personally I rather have it be something small that's an accumulation prize that we can work at at our own speed.
(be it ec for # of interaction milestones, and perhaps a small bit of CC at something like 10,000 interactions. Be it blog comments, PMs, support Tickets, Wall posts, or writing contest entries.
or something that goes in our profiles marking those milestones like the SARC donations. I mean our profiles already link to Posts/Topics, but I'm thinking some sort of trophy icon that changes at 100, 500, 1000 posts, etc.)
